Using the method described in a previous publication for recording the reticulum action in normal cows the authors have investigated three cows with experimentally produced reticuloperitonitis as well as a group of cows with spontaneous peritonitis under treatment at the stationary clinic. The experimental animals were provided with permanent rumen fistulas.In the three cows with experimentally produced peritonitis the pointed object worked loose spontaneously during the first 24 hrs. The symptoms were mild after the first perforation and became aggravated after further perforations.An abnormally prolonged reticulum interval was recorded immediately after the perforation and continued to be clearly distinguishable for two to three days. In the cows with spontaneous peritonitis, this change was observed only in the acute stage.Prolongation of the second phase of the reticulum was the most pronounced finding from the recordings of the reticular movements, both in the cows with experimental peritonitis and in those in the spontaneous group. The change was at its height after two to seven days, and then subsided gradually in the experimental animals in which repeated recordings had been made.The pressure elevation in reticulum during the contractions was lower both in the animals with experimental peritonitis and in the spontaneous group than in the healthy animals.The cows with reticuloperitonitis also displayed impaired ability to pass the recording catheter from the atrium ruminis to the reticulum.  相似文献

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence of circulating detectable serum levels of cardiac troponin I (CTnI) and circulating detectable serum levels of cardiac troponin T (CTnT) in dogs with class IV congestive heart failure (CHF) due to mitral valve disease (MVD) at admission. An additional study aim was to determine if detectable troponin levels correlated with the magnitude of several clinical parameters. Design: Prospective clinical investigation. Setting: Small animal emergency and critical care referral hospital. Interventions: Blood was collected before emergency treatment from 15 dogs presenting in class IV CHF due to MVD. Measurements: Serum concentrations of CTnI, CTnT at presentation. Main results: Six dogs (40%) had a detectable CTnI (median 0.24, range 0.12–0.31 ng/mL), and the remainder were less than 0.1 ng/mL and deemed non‐detectable. The one dog (7%) that had a detectable CTnT (0.02 ng/mL) also had a detectable CTnI (0.23 ng/mL). There was no statistical difference in survival to discharge between dogs with non‐detectable troponin levels and those with detectable troponin levels; however, dogs with detectable troponin levels had shorter overall survival times. Dogs with a detectable level of CTnI had a median survival of 67.5 days (range 1–390 days), and dogs with a non‐detectable level of CTnI had a median survival time of 390 days (range 20–912 days) (P=0.02). Conclusion: This study suggests that CTnI can be detected at admission in the blood of 40% of dogs with class IV CHF due to MVD. Dogs with non‐detectable levels of cardiac troponins had a significantly longer overall survival time. The encouraging results of this small pilot study warrant further investigation.  相似文献

Radiographic and surgical findings were compared in 123 cattle suspected of having traumatic reticuloperitonitis. Radiography of the reticulum proved to be a sensitive test for detection of a foreign body (FB). An abnormal FB position on a radiograph was a good predictor of FB perforation. If an FB was fully attached to a magnet, it was unlikely to be perforating the reticular wall. When abnormal reticulum size, abnormal reticulum location, and gas shadows adjacent to the reticulum were found simultaneously on a radiograph, hepatic or perireticular abscess was likely. Reticular radiography proved to be a useful diagnostic aid in cattle suspected of having traumatic reticuloperitonitis.  相似文献

Acute phase proteins (APPs) such as serum amyloid A (SAA), haptoglobin (Hp), and plasma fibrinogen (Fb) are diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. This study determined the pattern of SAA in traumatic reticuloperitonitis (TRP) in cows, and compared the findings with Hp, and plasma Fb concentrations in the differential diagnosis of TRP using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Blood samples were collected from 89 cows: 53 cases of TRP, 16 animals with other internal disorders and 20 healthy controls.SAA and Hp had a similar pattern and magnitude of changes in TRP. Using the ROC method, the optimal cut-off for the diagnosis of TRP was 68 μg/mL for SAA and 0.74 g/L for Hp, with 100% sensitivity and 86.1% specificity; either of these parameters may therefore be used as a sensitive and relatively specific tool for the differential diagnosis of TRP in cattle. The diagnostic accuracy of plasma Fb was significantly lower than either SAA or Hp (P < 0.01). The combined use of these APPs (whilst aware of their conditional interdependence) may not provide any additional diagnostic information than can be obtained using either SAA or Hp alone.  相似文献

We analyzed the value of total plasma protein in the diagnosis of traumatic reticuloperitonitis in dairy cattle using the concept of sensitivity, specificity and predictive value of a test. Cows with traumatic reticuloperitonitis surgically confirmed at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine served as cases, while cows surgically explored for other abdominal diseases that might be confused with traumatic reticuloperitonitis during differential diagnosis were controls. The sensitivity of the total plasma protein in diagnosis of traumatic reticuloperitonitis decreased from 97% to 6.3% as the cutoff value for a positive test rose from 65 g/L to 110 g/L, while specificity increased from 11.3% to 99.1% over the same range of cutoff values. Application of these figures to predictive values positive and negative at various prevalence levels of disease is discussed. For example at the measured prevalence level of 37%, 76% of cattle with plasma protein concentrations in excess of 100 g/L had traumatic reticuloperitonitis.  相似文献

Proportion of abortions due to neosporosis among dairy cattle in Japan   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A retrospective cohort study was conducted to clarify the association between seropositive reactions to Neospora caninum and subsequent reproductive disorders among dairy cattle in Japan. A statistically significant association between Neospora seropositive reactions and abortions was observed (P=0.016), and seropositive cattle were 6.1 times more likely to abort compared to seronegative cows. No significant differences were observed between seropositive reactions and other reproductive disorders such as conception failure, perinatal death and calf mortality. As indicated by estimation of the attributable fraction, 83.6% of abortions in Neospora seropositive animals may be attributed to N. caninum. Considering seroprevalence of N. caninum in the cattle which aborted in Japan, 21.8% of abortions were estimated to be caused by neosporosis in Japan.  相似文献
