A 13‐year‐old Quarter Horse gelding was presented for repair of a central tarsal bone fracture. Radiographs showed a single large nondisplaced sagittal slab fracture; however, computed tomography (CT) revealed an additional small, displaced central tarsal bone fragment. The complex fracture was repaired, under the same anaesthetic period as the CT examination, using the CT hard copies images, intraoperative fluoroscopy and radiographs. The horse recovered well and after rehabilitation showed no residual lameness at work. Computed tomography was instrumental in achieving precise screw placement and successful fracture repair.  相似文献

An 8-year-old Thoroughbred gelding was determined to have a sagittal fracture of the central tarsal bone. Lag screw fixation of the fracture enabled the horse to return to jumping, although degenerative arthritis of the distal intertarsal joint was apparent radiographically 17 months after the injury.  相似文献

Luxation of the radial carpal bone is an uncommon injury in the dog and cat. Previous clinical cases have reported palmaro-medial luxation with injury to the short radial collateral ligament. In this study a case of dorsomedial luxation of the radial carpal bone in a 10-year-old female Gordon Setter is described. A closed reduction of the luxation was performed and a conservative treatment was carried out. Thirteen months after the reduction, the dog had a satisfactory limb function, despite the presence of degenerative joint disease of the carpus. A pathogenic hypothesis for this dorso-medial luxation of the radial carpal bone is proposed reproducing the luxation on canine cadavers.  相似文献

Traumatic partial elbow luxation (unilateral medial humeroulnar) was diagnosed in a 2.5-year-old crossbreed dog. Previous reports of traumatic elbow luxation in the dog described lateral and less frequently medial humeroradioulnar luxations. The treatment consisted of closed reduction of the affected joint under general anaesthesia. The functional outcome was excellent.  相似文献

The case records of eight greyhounds that had undergone a surgical repair of either a type III or type IV fractured central tarsal bone were reviewed. In some cases difficulties were encountered which resulted in less than ideal fixation methods being used, but the fractures healed satisfactorily by intertarsal ankylosis and were radiographically complete after four to six months. For a successful outcome it was not necessary to preserve functional intertarsal joints by interfragmentary reconstruction and compression. The absence of dorsal slab fixation, poor dorsal screw positioning, or loss of the dorsal fragment, had no influence on the results. It took from six months to one year for the dogs to return to racing.  相似文献

Methods of repair of central tarsal bone (Tc) fractures in the racing greyhound can involve coaptation, single-screw fixation, or 2-screw fixation. Successful management, defined as a return to competitive racing, was obtained in 71% of 114 affected dogs treated by these methods. Both 1- and 2-screw fixation, with interfragmentary compression, was used to repair Tc fractures in 81 dogs. It was concluded that satisfactory results can be expected by use of open reduction and screw fixation in all types of Tc fractures except those that are severely comminuted.  相似文献

A mixed breed dog was presented for lateral luxation of the mandibular left canine tooth following oral trauma. This case report describes the management of this injury including reduction, stabilization using a wire reinforced acrylic splint, and standard endodontic therapy of the mandibular left canine tooth.  相似文献

A comminuted fracture of the central tarsal bone, fragmentation of the fourth tarsal bone and associated joint instability was diagnosed in a 14‐year‐old Sport Horse mare who presented for investigation of acute nonweightbearing hindlimb lameness. The mare responded well to conservative management and, unlike previously reported cases of similar injuries, returned to a similar level of athletic activity.  相似文献

A 4·5-year-old male Australian Kelpie was presented for evaluation of ambulatory tetraparesis and neck pain of five weeks duration. Atlanto-occipital luxation was diagnosed by computed tomography. The joint was unstable following closed reduction, and a ventral surgical approach to the cranial cervical spine and occiput permitted manual reduction and stabilisation of the atlanto-occipital joint. The thickened joint capsule and articular cartilage were removed to promote AO arthrodesis. Eight cortical screws, inserted into the occipital condyles and C1, were embedded in polymethylmethacrylate to stabilise the atlanto-occipital articulation. The dog recovered uneventfully after it was placed in a neck brace and rested for six weeks. Neurologic examination at six weeks was normal and the dog returned to normal farm work 12 weeks after surgery.  相似文献

Congenital elbow luxation in the dog   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Four cases of bilateral and two cases of unilateral congenital elbow luxation in the dog were reviewed. In all cases, lameness was severe, osseous abnormalities were marked, and the dislocations primarily involved the humeroulnar articulation. Treatment consisted of closed reduction and external support in one dog and surgical reduction and stabilization in four dogs. One dog died before surgery could be performed. Treatment resulted in return of function to the affected limbs, even though osseous abnormalities and varying degrees of malarticulation persisted. Posttreatment observations, for as long as 4 years, demonstrated the persistence of near normal function of the limbs and minimal elbow deformity.  相似文献

Primary lens luxation in the dog is encountered only in the terrier breeds and is typically a bilateral condition of both sexes arising in early to late middle age. The condition has recently appeared in the Tibetan Terrier and there is evidence to suggest an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance in this breed. In the majority of cases the dislocated lens passes forwards into the anterior chamber where its presence is likely to cause the development of acute glaucoma through obstruction of the pupil or filtration angle; for this reason lendectomy is the treatment of choice in such cases. Posterior luxations are less problematic but the approach to the treatment of subluxated lenses is controversial.  相似文献

Arthrodesis for congenital luxation of the shoulder in a dog   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Congenital luxation of the shoulder in a 7-month-old Chihuahua was corrected by use of arthrodesis. A single lag-screw fixation technique was used. Arthrodesis of the shoulder provides a favorable alternative to other salvage techniques such as glenohumeral resection or amputation.  相似文献
