SUMMARY A fatal infection with Gnathostoma spinigerum causing a perforated stomach is described in a 3-year-old cat. In a second debilitated case a small serosal perforation was found on a gastric lesion, while a third cat in good condition is described with a well developed stomach lesion but without perforation. Histopathological changes in the stomach were found in the submucosa and consisted of marked proliferation of fibrous tissue containing foci of inflammatory cells, necrotic tracts and a cavity in which the adult nematodes were found.  相似文献

A 10 yr old female cat presented for an acute onset of back arching, regurgitation, and open mouth breathing. Radiographs indicated the presence of a large intrathoracic mass. Computed tomography confirmed the presence of a large mass of fatty density in the dorso-caudal mediastinum. The mass was removed via right intercostal thoracotomy, and histopathology confirmed the mass as a lipoma. The cat was continuing to recover well as of 21 mo after surgery. This is the first reported case of an intrathoracic lipoma in a cat.  相似文献

A 13-year-old male neutered Persian crossbred cat was evaluated for hindlimb paresis, ataxia and urinary incontinence that had been progressing over the previous 3 months. Neurologically, the cat had thoracolumbar spinal cord deficits and a myelogram detected the presence of a mass compressing the thoracic spinal cord. A hemilaminectomy was performed to excise the soft tissue mass, subsequently identified histologically as a psammomatous meningioma. The cat regained ambulatory function and continence following surgery until a recurrence of paresis and ataxia 36 months later. A second myelogram suggested local recurrence of the tumour, which was confirmed by histological examination of the tumour after its removal at a second laminectomy. The cat again regained normal neurological function, until a further recurrence 16 months after the second surgery. The meningioma was surgically debulked a third time and the cat regained ambulation and continence postoperatively. This case demonstrates the successful use of repeated surgical resection in the management of a recurrent spinal meningioma in a cat. The cat was ambulatory and continent at a follow-up examination 63 months after the initial presentation.  相似文献

A 9-year-old intact male cat was presented for vomiting and straining to defecate. A large abdominal mass was palpated. The urinary bladder was full and non-expressible. Exploratory laparotomy revealed that the mass was compressing the colon and encircling the urethra caudal to the bladder. The mass was removed, the urethra transected, and the urinary bladder marsupialized to the ventral abdominal wall to allow urine drainage. Histopathologic examination of the mass revealed a prostatic carcinoma. The cat died approximately 6 weeks after removal of the mass. This is the first reported case of a prostatic carcinoma causing urethral obstruction and obstipation in a cat.  相似文献

A 9-year-old cat with hyperthyroidism was referred for radioactive iodine treatment. The cat also had a ventral cervical mass that the owners reported had been present for several years and had increased in size during the past few weeks. On physical examination, the mass was found to have caused lateral displacement of the trachea, esophagus, jugular vein, and common carotid artery. The mass was aspirated and was determined to be cystic in nature. Concentrations of thyroid hormones in the cystic fluid were similar to serum concentrations, and nuclear scintigraphy revealed thyroactive tissue lining the cyst wall. Magnetic resonance imaging suggested that the cyst originated from the right lobe of the thyroid gland. The cat was treated with sodium iodide I 131 but died 4 days later, presumably as a result of aspiration of gastric or esophageal contents. A necropsy was not performed, but histologic examination of a biopsy specimen of the mass indicated that it was a cystic thyroid adenoma.  相似文献

Intussusception associated with lymphoma of the ileocaecocolic junction was diagnosed in a 12-year-old female domestic short-haired cat that presented with a 3-week history of diarrhoea and a protruding anal mass. Surgical exploration revealed an ileocolonic intussusception proximal to the mass at the ileocaecal junction which was excised. A diagnosis of ileocaecocolic lymphosarcoma was made and euthanasia was later performed. This is an unusual case of an ileocaecal junction tumour that manifested as a rectal prolapse associated with intussusception in a cat.  相似文献

CASE DESCRIPTION-A 6-year-old neutered male cat was examined because of a 4-week history of abnormal sounds while drinking and a previously noted mass at the base of the tongue. CLINICAL FINDINGS-Oral examination revealed a 1-cm-diameter midline cystic mass on the dorsal aspect of the base of the tongue at the junction of the rostral two-thirds and caudal third of the tongue. Complete blood count and serum biochemical analysis revealed no clinically relevant abnormalities, and serum total thyroxine and free thyroxine (determined by equilibrium dialysis) concentrations were within the reference range. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME-The fluid in the cystic mass was aspirated, and the remaining deflated mass was marsupialized. Histologic and immunohistochemical examination of sections of the excised mass revealed ectopic thyroid tissue. The cat recovered uneventfully from the surgery, clinical signs resolved, and the cat remained euthyroid with no recurrence of the mass as of 8 months after surgery. CLINICAL RELEVANCE-This is the first known reported case of ectopic lingual thyroid tissue in a male cat. In humans, the most common site of ectopic thyroid tissue is at the base of the tongue and the condition is disproportionately found in females, compared with males. In humans with ectopic lingual thyroid tissue, the patient often lacks any other functional thyroid tissue. However, the cat of this report remained euthyroid after mass resection.  相似文献

The anthelmintic potential of epsiprantel, 2-(cyclohexylcarbonyl)-4-oxo-1,2,3,4,6,7,8,12b-octahydropyrazin [2,1-a] [2]benzapine, was revealed using the tapeworms Dipylidium caninum and Taenia taeniaeformis in the cat, and Taenia pisiformis and T. hydatigena in the dog. Subsequent controlled tests in cats demonstrated oral efficacy of 100% against D. caninum with a single dose of 2.5 mg/kg. Although consistently 100% effective against T. taeniaeformis at 5 mg/kg, a single worm was found in one cat treated at 7.5 mg/kg. In experimental infections of Taenia pisiformis in dogs, 100% activity was achieved from a single oral dose of 1 mg/kg. No adverse reaction or drug-associated toxicity were observed at dose levels used.  相似文献

A two-year-old cat was involved in a road traffic accident. Survey abdominal radiographs and urinary function were considered unremarkable. Six weeks later the cat presented with a palpable dorsal abdominal mass. Radiography revealed a soft tissue opacity mass caudal to the right kidney. Ultrasonography revealed a cyst-like structure with moderately echogenic contents, and right-sided hydronephrosis. There was no excretion of contrast medium from the right kidney after intravenous urography. Surgery revealed a disrupted right ureter adherent to the retroperitoneal mass. The mass contained serosanguineous fluid consistent with extravasated urine. Ureteronephrectomy was performed. The majority of the mass was excised and the cavity ablated. Histopathology of the excised tissue revealed a thick fibrous wall with no epithelial lining, consistent with a urinoma, which is thought to have developed as a consequence of ureteral trauma. The cat was clinically well three months postoperatively.  相似文献

A 14-year old domestic shorthair cat was presented because of vomiting, anorexia and an abdominal mass. A diagnosis could not be made preoperative and during surgery the mass was assigned to the gastric part of the pancreas. A partial pancreatectomy and splenectomy was performed using a Ligasure? vessel sealing device. No surgery related complications occurred. Histological examination revealed an anaplastic carcinoma of the pancreas. The cat was in a good clinical condition 14 days after surgery. After 2 months the cat was euthanized with the suspicion of a bone tumor. Findings of this case demonstrate that pancreatic carcinoma in cats has a poor prognosis but pancreatectomy can be performed using a bipolar vessel sealing device as a safe and fast alternative to standard surgical techniques.  相似文献

Fourteen hundred and ninety-six domestic pigs, Sus scrofa domestica L., from a sub-tropical and high-rainfall area of India were examined over a period of 18 months to ascertain their nematode parasite spectrum. The eleven species recovered, arranged in descending order of prevalence, are as follows: Ascaris suum, Oesophagostomum dentatum, Bourgelatia diducta, Stephanurus dentatus, Globocephalus connorfilii, Physocephalus sexalutus, Ascarops dentata, A. strongylina, Pseudocruzia orientalis, Setaria bernardi and Gnathostoma hispidum. This is also the first report of the occurrence of Setaria bernardi in pigs in India. A. Suum, the most prevalent species (51.67%) found in the pigs of the region, is presumably of zoonotic importance. Another species of public health significance that was encountered in the survey was Gnathostoma hispidum. The overall infection rate was considerably higher (76.42%) in the low-altitude region than in the high-altitude one (62.50%). The highest level of infection (73.2%) was observed during autumn and the lowest (63.0%) in winter.  相似文献

A seven-year-old male domestic shorthaired cat was presented with persistent dyspnoea. Thoracic radiography and echocardiography revealed pulmonary oedema and a mass at the base of the heart. At necropsy the mass was found to be an aortic body chemodectoma that had metastasised to the sternal lymph node. This is a rare tumour in the cat, the third reported case where there was evidence of metastasis, and only the second reported case where there was evidence of lymphocytic infiltration of the primary tumour. Pulmonary oedema is an unusual presentation of this tumour in the cat.  相似文献

A 3-year female-neutered domestic shorthair cat presenting with exophthalmos and an ipsilateral subzygomatic soft tissue mass lesion is described. Magnetic resonance imaging of the mass was performed followed by complete surgical excision. The mass was determined to be a retrobulbar teratoma and complete resection was curative. Teratomas are rare germ-cell tumours that uncommonly form in extragonadal sites. A retrobulbar location has not been previously reported in the cat and should be considered a rare cause of exophthalmos in this species.  相似文献

A 12-year-old cat was presented for investigation of weight loss and inappetence. Radiography and conventional grey-scale ultrasonography showed a large mid-body splenic mass. Contrast enhanced ultrasonography of the liver demonstrated a hypoechoic left lateral lobe nodular mass during the peak and late portal-phases of liver enhancement. Histopathology of the splenic mass and hepatic nodular mass confirmed haemangiosarcoma. The use of ultrasound microbubble contrast media in the diagnosis of hepatic metastasis in the cat has not been previously reported in the cat.  相似文献

A protruding nasal mass in a domestic shorthair cat with nasal discharge and recurrent fever was determined to be caused by infection with the fungus Trichosporon pullulans, as determined by cytologic, histologic, and fungal culture methods. Initially, the cat was treated orally with ketoconazole and the mass decreased in size. When signs of hepatotoxicosis developed, treatment was reduced to an alternate-day basis. However, the nasal mass increased in size with this regimen, and therapy with amphotericin B and 5-flucytosine was begun. It also was unsuccessful.  相似文献

An 8-month old intact male Turkish Angora cat was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), Seoul National University, for an evaluation of anorexia and severe dyspnea. The thoracic radiographs revealed significant pleural effusion. A cytology evaluation of the pleural fluid strongly suggested a lymphoma containing variable sized lymphocytes with frequent mitotic figures and prominent nucleoli. The feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus tests were negative. The cat was euthanized at his owner''s request and a necropsy was performed. A mass was detected on the mediastinum and lung lobes. A histopathology evaluation confirmed the mass to be a lymphoma. Immunohistochemistry revealed the mass to be CD3 positive. In conclusion, the cat was diagnosed as a T-cell mediastinal lymphoma.  相似文献

Chondrosarcoma of the proximal humerus was diagnosed in a four-year-old, castrated male, domestic shorthair cat that was presented with a slowly growing solid mass in the region of the proximal humerus. Forequarter amputation was advised, but declined by the owners. Following surgical debulking clinical signs resolved, but two months after surgery the cat was readmitted because the mass had recurred in the same region. The forequarter was amputated. Histopathological evaluation of the tumour confirmed the diagnosis of chondrosarcoma. Follow-up examinations performed over a period of 15 months from initial presentation revealed that the cat was doing well and had no signs of metastatic disease. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of chondrosarcoma of the proximal humerus in a cat to be diagnosed and surgically treated. This case demonstrates that animals with such tumours may recover well after complete excision.  相似文献

A 17-year-old Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris) presented with dyspnea and tachypnea. Radiographs revealed severe pleural and pericardial effusion, but no obvious mass. During attempts to remove the fluid under anesthesia, the cat developed cardiac tamponade and died. At necropsy, a nodular mass was found at the heart base and was identified as a pericardial mesothelioma. This is the first report of this tumor in any large cat.  相似文献

This report describes two cases of feline anal sac squamous cell carcinoma. Cat 1 was managed with a multimodal approach combining surgical resection, radiation therapy and systemic therapy (toceranib phosphate; Palladia™) until local recurrence was identified at 236 days postsurgery. At that time, the cat received carboplatin. With the tumour being progressive, the cat was euthanased 552 days post initial surgery. Cat 2 was managed palliatively with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (meloxicam) and supportive medications. Unfortunately, with further decline in quality of life following initial diagnosis, the cat was euthanased 28 days later. Squamous cell carcinoma should be considered as a possible differential diagnosis when a cat is presented for investigation of an anal sac mass.  相似文献
