In Elizabeth Culotta's article "Entrepreneurs say: "It's better to be the boss" (Special Section, Women in Science '93, 16 Apr., p. 406), Henry Etzkowitz was incorrectly described as a sociologist "at Rutgers University." Dr. Etzkowitz is at the State University of New York at Purchase.

In Christopher Anderson's News & Comment article "Rocky road for Federal Research Inc." (22 Oct., p. 496), a comment from National Institutes of Health neuroscientist Michael Rogawski regarding Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) delays did not refer to his own CRADA experiences, which he says were not characterized by inordinate delays. Rogawski was referring to the effect on scientists in general of the delays inherent in what he considers appropriate scientific and administrative review.

The photographs accompanying the Research News article "New Altzheimer's therapy suggested" by Jim Schnabel (18 June, p. 1719) were printed incorrectly so that their order was reversed. Joe Rogers appeared at the top, and Patrick McGeer below.

Throughout the Research Article "Autoproteolysis in hedgehog protein biogenesis" by John J. Lee et al. (2 Dec., p. 1528) the word "disc" was incorrectly spelled "disk." In figure 4C (p. 1531), lane 9 should have been labeled "flu227," not "flu408."

Figure 1 (p. 1061) of the report "Revival and identification of bacterial spores in 25- to 40-million-year-old Dominican amber" by R. J. Cano and M. K. Borucki (19 May, p. 1060) was incorrect. The correct figure appears below. [See figure in the pdf file].

The 1994 and 1995 federal science budget appropriations for two of the activities were inadvertently transposed in a table that accompanied the article "Hitting the President's target is mixed blessing for agencies" by Jeffrey Mervis (News & Comment, 14 Oct., p. 211). The correct figures for Defense Department spending on university research are $1.460 billion in 1994 and $1.279 billion in 1995; for research and development at NASA, the correct figures are $9.455 billion in 1994 and $9.824 billion in 1995.

In the News article "Astronomy's optical illusion" by John Travis (21 Oct., p. 356), the name of Paul Schechter of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was given incorrectly on page 357 as Paul "Schectman."

The map accompanying the Perspective "The deadly Latur earthquake" by H. K. Gupta (10 Dec., p. 1666) incorrectly designated a protion of eastern India as "Myanmar."

In the article "Genetic testing set for takeoff" by Rachel Nowak (News & Comment, 22 July, p. 464), Helix was cited as the source of information for the accompanying table describing genetic testing (p. 466). The information in the table regarding mutational mechanism, cost, and market size came from sources identified by Helix who were contacted separately.

In the News article "Finding ;sustainable' ways to prevent parasitic diseases" by Rebecca Kolberg (24 June, p. 1859), mention is made of nylon gauze that is being distributed worldwide free of charge to filter Guinea worm larvae from drinking water. The cloth is donated by E. I. Dupont de Nemours & Company, Inc., and Precision Fabrics Group for distribution by Global 2000, Inc.

In the report "Reversal of Raf-1 activation by purified and membrane-associated protein phosphatases" by P. Dent, T. Jelinek, D. K. Morrison, M. J. Weber, and T. W. Sturgill, (30 June, p. 1902), reference 25 on page 1906 should have included, after the first sentence, "Buffers (4) and buffer E contained 0.2% (v/v) 2-mercaptoethanol."

In the table in the article "Can sustainable farming win the battle of the bottom line?" by Bob Holmes (Environment & the Economy, 25 June, p. 1893), the second and third lines in the legend should have read, "Alt. #1: conventional corn-soybean rotation with reduced tillage. Alt. #2: organic corn-beans-(wheat + clover)-clover-corn rotation with reduced tillage."

The photo credit for the cover of the Women in Science 1994 cover (11 Mar., p. 1351) was incorrect. It should have read, "Tom Van Sant/Geosphere Project, Santa Monica, CA/Photo Researchers."

The enzyme shown in the photo on page 1363 accompanying the 11 March ScienceScope item "Lobbying backfires on LBL, Berkeley" was not a "designed enzyme" or an engineered protein, nor was it human glutathione S-transferase. It is a representation of the mu 3-3 isozyme of rat liver glutathione S-transferase with an inhibitor, 9-(S-glutathionyl)-10-hydroxy-9, 10-dihydrophenanthrene. The structure was determined at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology as a result of collaborative work between the laboratory of Gary L. Gilliland and that of Richard Armstrong in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park [X. Ji et al., Biochemistry 33, 1043 (1994)].

In the authors' note for the report "Suppression of hyphal formation in Candida albicans by mutation of a STE12 homolog" by Haoping Liu et al. (9 Dec., p. 1723), the affiliation for G. R. Fink should have been the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA 02142, USA.

The footnote on page 482 accompanying Jon Cohen's News & Comment article "Drug companies join forces in search for AIDS therapy" (23 Apr.) should have listed Bristol-Myers Squibb Company as one of the participating companies in the collaboration.

In the editorial "Punctuated equilibrium in scientific publishing" by Ellis Rubinstein (9 June, p. 1415), the first name of Gerard Piel was spelled incorrectly, and his year of retirement, and that of Dennis Flanagan, should have been given as 1984, not 1986.

In the ScienceScope item "NIH to review gene therapy program" (5 May, p. 627). Arno Motulsky is incorrectly identified as "an ethicist." Dr. Motulsky is a medical geneticist.
