Full blood counts were carried out on a number of clinically normal newborn, juvenile and adult Barbary sheep. Significant age related differences in the number and size of the red cells and in the absolute and relative numbers of neutrophils and lymphocytes were found. Fibrinogen levels and platelet counts were lowest in newborn animals. These differences could complicate the interpretation of haematological findings on sick Barbary sheep if not taken into account. 相似文献

Stomatocytic and echinocytic transformations of caprine erythrocytes were studied in vitro using chlorpromazine as a stomatocyyic agent and lysolecithin as an echinocytic agent. Morphologic changes in erythrocytes generally varied with the cell shape and the concentration of the substances used. Discoytic, triangular, and pear-shaped red cells common to normal goats, exhibited classical stomatocytic and echinocytic changes with formation of spherostomatocytes, sphero-echinocytes, and spherocytes. In comparison, fusiform and spindle-shaped red cells found in certain Angora goats seemed less prone to shape changes and required greater concentrations of the inducing agents to effect such changes. Chlorpromazine at higher concentrations also inflicted localized membrane damage in form of tiny pits and lysolecithin likewise induced formation of fragile smooth or beaded filaments. 相似文献

Ultrastructural examination of the lungs from goats with natural infections with Mycoplasma capricolum subspecies capripneumonia, the causative agent of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia, revealed extensive hyperplasia of type II pneumocytes. Typically, these type II cells contained abundant numbers of osmiophilic lamellar bodies that had lost most of their characteristic lamellar ultrastructure. Changes with age in the eyes of Beagle dogs are described clinically and histologically. Lenticular changes involve increased prominence of the posterior lens sutures and opacity within the fetal nucleus. Cystoid degeneration of the retina was found in 85% of 8–year–old animals examined. A pigmentary change of the retina was found to be associated with focal degenerative change of the tapetum. No case of retinal atrophy was recorded. 相似文献

Age related changes and osteochondrosis in swine were studied using light microscopy and electron microscopy in articular cartilage and light microscopy and epiphyseal cartilage of swine from three days to 30 weeks of age. Thickness, cellularity and vascularity of both the epiphyseal and articular cartilage, decreased as the swine aged. Osteochondrotic changes included formation of "plugs" of cartilage indicating localized failure of ossification and separation and space formation in epiphyseal cartilage. Eosinophilic streaks and space formation in epiphyseal cartilage was observed in relation to epiphyseal separation. Electron microscopy showed a continuous fibrillar layer on the surface of the cartilage corresponding to the lamina splendens of light microscopy. This layer increased in the thickness and showed accumulation of amorphous material between the fibrils with aging. In the matrix, the orientation and distribution of the collagen fibers changed with growth and thicker fibers with clear sub banding were more common in older age groups. Also, necrotic cells, glycogen containing bodies and cellular debris were noticed in the matrix of normal cartilage in old animals. Chondrocytes in the younger cartilage showed accumulation of organelles responsible for protein synthesis; while Golgi bodies, vesicles, lysosomes, well developed foot processes and other inclusions were noticed in older cartilage. Cartilage erosions had a clumped and disrupted lamina splendens on the surface and electron lucent patches in the ground substances of the matrix and chondrocyte cytoplasm. 相似文献

Background: DNA methylation plays a vital role in reproduction.Entire genome DNA methylation changes during the oestrous phase(ES) and dioestrous phase(DS) in the ovaries of Guanzhong dairy goats were investigated using bisulphite sequencing to understand the molecular biological mechanisms of these goats' oestrous cycle.Results: We discovered distinct genome-wide DNA methylation patterns in ES and DS ovaries.A total of 26,910 differentially methylated regions were upregulated and 21,453 differentially methylated regions were downregulated in the ES samples compared with the DS samples(P-values ≤0.05 and fold change of methylation ratios ≥2).Differentially methylated region analysis showed hypomethylation in the gene body regions and hypermethylation in the joining region between upstream regions and gene bodies.The methylation ratios of the STAR,FGF2,FGF12,BMP5 and SMAD6 genes in the ES samples were lower than those of the DS samples(P-values≤0.05 and fold change of methylation ratios ≥2).Conversely,the methylation ratios of the EGFR,TGFBR2,IGF2 BP1 and MMD2 genes increased in the ES samples compared with the DS samples.In addition,223 differentially methylated genes were found in the GnRH signalling pathway(KO04912),ovarian steroidogenesis pathway(KO04913),oestrogen signalling pathway(KO04915),oxytocin signalling pathway(KO04921),insulin secretion pathway(KO04911) and MAPK signalling pathway(KO04010).Conclusions: This study is the first large-scale comparison of the high-resolution DNA methylation landscapes of oestrous and dioestrous ovaries from dairy goats.Previous studies and our investigations have shown that the NR5 A2,STAR,FGF2 and BMP5 genes might have potential application value in regulating caprine oestrus. 相似文献

A number of factors can influence immune function affecting the magnitude and duration of specific immune responses. One factor which has been noted to affect immune responses is age of animal. In mammals, juveniles have a lower immune response when compared to adults. In fish, fry have a lower immune response than adults; however, few studies have investigated the immune response in juveniles, the age when most fish are reared in aquaculture settings. The humoral immune responses of hybrid striped bass (Morone saxatilis x Morone chrysops) at five different ages were compared to determine any maturational changes. Fifty fish were bath immunized with a commercial Vibrio vaccine at 4, 6, 9, 15, and 19 months of age. The antibody response in these fish was monitored by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for 106 days post-vaccination. The magnitude, duration, and time to peak level were compared to controls and between the different ages using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Younger fish exhibited significantly lower antibody levels indicating that juvenile fish may not be able to mount as effective an immune response as young adult fish. 相似文献

Serum testosterone concentrations and the spermiograms of prepuberal bulls fed two levels of protein diets were investigated at 7, 10, 14 and 18 months of age. Scrotal circumference, body condition score and total sperm counts of those animals on a high protein diet were significantly (P <0.05) higher than those on a low protein diet. However, sperm motility, total dead sperm and abnormal sperm did not differ between the treatment groups (P <0.05). One bull fed a high protein diet had significantly higher testosterone concentrations (basal and peak) than a bull fed low protein throughout the four sampling periods (P <0.05). Testosterone concentrations, scrotal circumference, volume of semen, sperm concentration and sperm output of bulls on low and high protein diets increased significantly with age (P <0.05). Peak testosterone concentrations ranged from 1.1. ng ml−1 at 7 months to a maximum of 5.3 ng ml−1 at 18 months. The 24 h secretory patterns of testosterone were episodic, pulsatile or temporal in nature. The peaks occurred mostly in the morning hours and ranged from one to five in number. Protein intake in prepubertal bulls could have significant influence on spermiogram and testosterone production. 相似文献

The effect of age/body weight in the plasma disposition kinetics of ivermectin (IVM) and nitroxynil (NTX) after their co-administration as a combined formulation to sheep was studied. Sixteen (16) male sheep were allocated into two experimental groups (n = 8 each): (a) high body weight (high bw) (18-20 months old), and (b) low body weight (low bw) (6-8 months old). Animals in both groups were subcutaneously (sc) treated with IVM (200 μg/kg) and NTX (10 mg/kg) using a commercially available combined formulation (Nitromectin®, Lab. Ovejero, Spain). Blood samples were taken by jugular venopuncture before (time 0), at 2, 4, 8, 12 h and at 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, 40, 50 and 60 days after administration. Recovered plasma was analysed to quantify IVM and NTX by HPLC. Higher IVM plasma concentrations were measured until 20 days post-administration in “low bw” compared to “high bw” animals, where IVM was recovered up to 35 days post-treatment. The IVM absorption process greatly differed between experimental groups. A significantly higher (p < 0.01) Cmax (36.7 ± 7.52 ng/ml) value was obtained at a delayed (p < 0.05) Tmax (48.0 ± 0.0 h) in light compared to heavy (Cmax: 8.0 ± 0.80 ng/ml; at 34.0 h) body weight sheep. IVM elimination half-life and mean residence time were significantly shorter in light compared to heavy (older) sheep. NTX mean plasma concentrations were lower in “low bw” compared to those measured in “high bw” sheep, with elimination phases declining up to 60 d post-administration in both experimental groups. The NTX AUC value in “low bw” (1188.5 ± 122.6 μg day/ml) was significantly lower (p < 0.05) than that obtained in the “high bw” (oldest) animals (1735.0 ± 155.8 μg day/ml). Shorter NTX elimination half-life and mean residence time (p < 0.01) were obtained in the youngest (“low bw”) compared to the oldest (high bw) sheep. The work reported here assessed for the first time the disposition of IVM and NTX after their combinated injection to sheep, demonstrating that animal body weight/development greatly affects the kinetic behaviour of both anthelmintic drugs. 相似文献

Early organogenesis of the caprine stomach was studied in a series of 11 embryos ranging from 6.5 mm neck-rump length (NRL) to 13.3 mm crown-rump length (CRL). In embryos with 6.5-6.7 mm NRL, a part of the primordial proper esophagus extended to the dorsal side of the primordial stomach. The primordial proper esophagus and its extension were lined with a simple epithelium and stained dark brown with Con A III, while the primordial stomach was weakly stained. In embryo with 7.3 mm NRL, the esophageal extension was separated from the proper esophagus by constriction, and became a primordial forestomach situated in an area outside the omental sac. In embryos with 8.3 mm NRL-10.7 mm CRL, primordial forestomach and primordial stomach were united and formed a spindle shaped primordial ruminant stomach with foregut rotation. The primordial ruminant stomach was similar to the primordial simple stomach except that it was more flattened laterally with the convex at the area of 'lesser curvature'. Primordial rumen, omasum and abomasum appeared from the spindle shaped primordial ruminant stomach in an embryo with 12.9 mm CRL. In an embryo with 13.3 mm CRL, primordial reticulum originated from an area between the primordial rumen and omasum. 相似文献

To determine whether neurophysiological taste responses of young and old rats are different, recordings were made from the whole chorda tympani nerve which innervates taste buds on the anterior tongue. SHR-SP (Stroke-Prone Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats) in two age groups were studied. Chemical stimuli included single concentrations of 250 mM NH(4)Cl, 100 mM NaCl, 100 mM KCl, 500 mM sucrose, 20 mM quinine-hydrochloride, 10 mM HCl, 10 mM monosodium glutamate (MSG), 10 mM L- glutamic acid (L-Glu) and an NaCl concentration series. The magnitude of the neural response (response ratio) was calculated by dividing the amplitude of the integrated response by the amplitude of the spontaneous activity that preceded it. Substantial neural responses to all chemicals were obtained at both ages. The responses to KCl, sucrose, quinine-hydrochloride, HCl, monosodium glutamate (MSG) and glutamic acid (Glu) did not change with age, but the response to NaCl did decrease significantly. The profile of the response/concentration function for NaCl differed with age. In particular, the responses to solutions more concentrated than 100 mM NaCl were significantly weaker in aged than in young SHR-SPs. We also observed that recovery from amiloride treatment on the tongue of SHR-SPs was faster in aged rats than in young ones, suggesting that there is some functional difference in the sodium-specific channels on the taste cell. These results suggest that aged SHR-SP may be less able than young SHR-SPs to discriminate among higher concentrations of NaCl solutions. 相似文献

Dye-binding techniques using bromocresol green (BCG) and bromocresol purple (BCP) were compared with cellulose acetate electrophoresis for the determination of caprine serum albumin. When a caprine standard was used the electrophoretic values showed little difference from those obtained with BCG. However, when a bovine standard or BCP were used, there were differences. Bias was detected between the values determined with bovine and caprine albumin standards owing to the different absorbances of the dye-protein mixtures. Using BCG, a closer correlation was obtained between the electrophoretic and caprine standard values than between the electrophoretic and bovine standard values, but with BCP the reverse was true although these differences were not significant. BCP was considered a less suitable dye than BCG for routine analysis because of low absorbance changes and the resulting poor precision. 相似文献
