Insemination results of technicians and dairy bulls in AI were studied using 87112 first inseminations from 283 bulls by 37 technicians. The traits studied were 28- and 56-day non-return rates. Models were compared on the basis of the correlation between solutions obtained from a reference model and reduced models.Age at first service in heifers and calving to first service interval in cows did not affect the ranking of sires and technicians. Routine monthly evaluation of non-return rates of sires required a correction for parity of cow and month of insemination. In addition genetic group and number of inseminations should be considered. Monthly evaluation of technicians could be based on deviations within studs.Annual evaluation of sires and technicians should consider a herd effect as well. The correlation between solutions (56-day non-return) for models with and without herd effect was 0.94 for both sires and technicians, whereas the absolute average change was 0.5%.  相似文献

Calving records for daughters of 667 Record of Performance tested sires were examined to study factors related to age at first calving. For the 3025 heifers analyzed, mean age (± SD) at first calving was 791.5 ± 161.6 days (26.4 ± 5.4 months). There were significant effects of the breed of sire on age of heifer at first calving. Daughters of Angus sires calved earlier than daughters of Charolais, Hereford, Limousin, and Simmental sires. Mean ages at first calving for daughters of Hereford, Limousin, and Simmental bulls were significantly (p < 0.05) correlated with the sire's end-of-test age-adjusted scrotal circumference, but these correlations were not significant when farm effects were controlled. It appears that unknown herd level factors are more important in determining age at first calving in Ontario herds than using early maturing sires as determined by scrotal circumference measurements.  相似文献

This study was carried out to examine the changes in plasma concentrations of the Ca‐binding antimicrobial proteins S100A7 and S100A8 during pregnancy in dairy cows. Holstein Friesian cows (n = 19) were inseminated with Holstein Friesian semen. Blood was collected at days 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240 and 270 after insemination. Plasma was used for measuring the concentrations of S100A7 and S100A8. Both S100A7 and S100A8 concentrations showed similar patterns during gestation; they increased during the midgestation, between days 90 and 180, and then declined before calving. The findings indicated that plasma concentrations of S100A7 and S100A8 did not change significantly during pregnancy in cows. Further studies are required to determine the roles of S100A7 and S100A8 in physiological function during pregnancy in dairy cows.  相似文献

Biosecurity practices of beef cow-calf herds in western Canada have not been studied extensively nor is there a good understanding of their association with herd health. A survey was sent to 103 cow-calf producers of the Western Canadian Cow-Calf Surveillance Network. Eighty completed questionnaires were returned. Bulls were purchased for all herds during the 2014 to 2017 study period; 54% of herds purchased heifers and 42% purchased cows. The use of standard biosecurity practices was generally low with 30% of producers keeping purchased animals separate and 30% vaccinating new additions. None of the evaluated biosecurity practices were associated with reporting Johne’s disease. The purchase of > 10 bulls, the purchase of cows, not vaccinating animals bought into the herd, and use of community pasture were associated with a bovine respiratory disease outbreak. Outbreaks of calf diarrhea were associated with the purchase of 10 or more bulls, the use of a community pasture, and leasing or sharing bulls.  相似文献

本试验用SPA法(Sperm Penetration Assay)即精子穿透分析法对8头黑白花公牛冻精的受精力进行检测,以预测各公牛精液受精力的水平。结果:每卵表面平均精子数为3.2~9.5个,每卵内精子数为1.6~3.4个,被穿透的卵子比例即穿透率为34.9~65.7%,具雄原核的卵子比例即原核卵率为16.0~32.4%。这些数值与各公牛冻精授精500多头母牛的效果作对照,8头公牛平均80(70~90)天的不返情率为56%(45.8~71.1%),不返情率与雄原核卵率,穿透率呈高度正相关,相关系数分别为 0.82和 0.92。 另一组试验结果表明:授精时间对穿透率特别是对雄原核形成有很大影响。授精2小时后观察,没有雄原核形成,只有附着于卵子表面的精子;授精4小时后,精子已通过卵黄膜进入卵内,并开始形成雄原核;授精6小时后形成发育良好的雄原核。 这些观察结果有助于利用这项技术在生产上对公牛精液的受精力进行客观评定,为选择后备公牛提供重要的生理指标,特别是对评定冷冻精液的品质具有一定的参考价值。并为精子顶体反应、受精机理、体外受精、遗传学和胚胎学等领域的研究提供新的手段。  相似文献

本研究利用北京地区23个奶牛场105头公牛的25705个女儿繁殖记录,对中国荷斯坦青年牛的4个繁殖性状,包括青年牛初配日龄(AFI)、青年牛妊娠日龄(AFP)、青年牛初产日龄(AFC)和输精次数(NS),采用固定模型通过SAS9.1软件GLM过程进行统计分析。结果表明,牛场、出生年份、出生季节以及公牛等效应对青年牛繁殖性状具有显著(P〈0.05)或极显著影响(P〈0.01)。通过提高饲养管理水平,给母牛创造良好的生存环境,选用具有优秀繁殖性能的种公牛,可有效提高母牛繁殖效率。  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the mode of inheritance of congenital proportionate dwarfism in Angus and Angus crossbred cattle, initially detected in two commercial beef herds in northern New South Wales. DESIGN: Matings of normal carrier sires to unrelated cows of diverse breeds, and of one carrier sire to his unaffected daughters. An unrelated Piedmontese bull was also mated to unaffected daughters of the carrier sires. PROCEDURE: Two carrier Angus bulls and nine unaffected daughters, all of whom were completely indistinguishable from normal animals, were purchased for controlled breeding studies under known nutritional and disease conditions. Affected and carrier individuals were examined for the presence of obvious chromosomal abnormalities. RESULTS: Angus dwarfism has been successfully reproduced under controlled experimental conditions over successive years using unrelated dams and is undoubtedly heritable. The high frequency of occurrence of affected individuals (23/61 = 0.38 +/- .06) among the progeny of matings of the Angus sires to unrelated females of diverse breeding is not compatible with recessive inheritance, because of the negligible frequency of proportionate dwarfism in the breeds of the dams. Both paternal and maternal transmission of the defect was demonstrated, so that imprinting in the strict sense of a gene that is only expressed when received from the male parent appears not to be involved. Tested individuals showed no evidence of gross chromosomal abnormality. Dominant autosomal inheritance with incomplete penetrance was indicated by the lack of expression of the defective gene in the two Angus sires and in three unaffected daughters who produced dwarf calves from matings to the Piedmontese bull. CONCLUSIONS: The mode of inheritance is that of a single autosomal dominant gene with a penetrance coefficient of 0.75 +/- 0.12, estimated from the observed incidence of 23/61 affected offspring of the two carrier Angus bulls mated to unrelated dams. Simple genetic models involving either (i) an unstable mutant which changes at high frequency to the expressed dominant dwarfing allele during gametogenesis, or (ii) a dominant allele with penetrance determined by an unlinked modifying locus, are shown to be compatible with the experimental data. Both models indicate that penetrance of the dwarfing gene may possibly be higher in matings involving carrier daughters of the two Angus bulls.  相似文献

Maiden heifers and lactating cows of known ovarian status and of several breeds were treated with a synthetic prostaglandin, cloprostenol, or a synthetic progestagen, norgestomet, at the start of an artificial insemination (AI) program. Animals in the cloprostenol treatment received 2 injections 10 days apart. Over the next 26 days those animals that showed oestrous behaviour were inseminated. Synchronisation rates and calving rates to insemination over the first 7 days were calculated. Those in the norgestomet treatment received an implant of norgestomet plus an injection of norgestomet and oestradiol valerate. The implant was removed 10 days later and the animals were given an injection of pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG). They were inseminated at 48 h (maiden heifers) or 56 h (lactating cows) after implant removal. Calving rates to fixed-time insemination were recorded. After completion of the AI program the animals in both treatments were joined with bulls. Overall calving rates (AI plus bulls) were calculated. By day 7 of the program, 82% of the maiden heifers and 76% of the lactating cows in the cloprostenol treatment had been detected in oestrus. By day 21 the respective figures were 99% and 81% Norgestomet treatment had an immediate and a prolonged effect on ovarian activity in those females classified as having inactive ovaries at the start of the AI program. Calving rates of those females to fixed-time AI and overall were similar to those of the females with active ovaries in both treatments. Their calving rates to fixed-time insemination, and overall calving rates for the lactating females, were significantly higher than the corresponding values of their contemporaries treated with cloprostenol and inseminated on observed oestrus over 7 days. For those females classified as having active ovaries at the start of the AI program, calving rates to first insemination and overall were similar for both treatments. Overall calving rates of lactating cows of each breed were, with one exception, higher in the norgestomet treatment than in the cloprostenol treatment. Although norgestomet treatment was more expensive than cloprostenol treatment, the advantage in calf crop resulted in an overall monetary advantage to the norgestomet treatment.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of two synchronization methods with prostaglandins F2α (PGF2α) on heifers and multiparous cows. Fourty-three Bos indicus cows (white and Red Fulani) were divided into four groups in a two-by-two factorial structure, parity x method of synchronization. The synchronization methods consisted of a two-dose regime which involved injection of animals on day 0 with PGF2α (Lutalyse) at 5 ml per cow intramuscularly. On day 11, the injection was repeated at the same dosage. On day 14 (72 h after the second injection), a fixed-time artificial insemination (AI) was done. On day 15 (96 h after the second injection), a second insemination was done. The one-and-a-half-dose regime consisted of an injection similar to the first treatment mentioned above on day 0. Thereafter, cows were observed for heat, and anyone showing heat was inseminated. A second dose was given on day 11 to all animals not having shown any heat. A fixed-time AI was done on days 14 and 15. Blood samples were collected on the day 0 of insemination for each cow while day 11 and day 21 after insemination. Progesterone was analysed by means of standard ELISA progesterone kits to determine its profiles after insemination. Results show no evidence of the effect of treatments on conception rates (P?>?0.05). Similarly, heifers and multiparous cows had similar conception rates (P?>?0.05). Between 3 weeks and 3 months of pregnancy, there was a loss of embryos of 28 % in heifers and 20 % in multiparous cows, but the difference between the two groups was not significant (P?>?0.05). It recommended that farmers do not synchronize animals with poor body condition score (BCS). They should also monitor weight gains of heifers, remove them from the herd when they have been mixed with young growing bulls and put them in a breeding herd. The two-dose regime is better to be used in areas where the inseminator cannot easily be available.

This article presents the results of Mr. Na's thesis (1972). A method to estimate genetic progress which Everett et al. (1967) applied to a simulated population of cows is tried on two real populations of cows. Data collected in 1963–1967 for the daughters and in 1948–1959 for the dams are used. The computed estimates are of little value because of the bias caused by the selection of sires. The reason why selection of bulls affects the estimation of genetic gain, which is not obvious, is described.The method seems to be appropriate for large quantities of data where adjustment for the influence of selection among sires is possible. In order to correct for age of dams, dams' performance, and selection of sires it is necessary to record the identification number of the dam of each cow and the number of daughters and their mean performance of each bull.Another method of estimation which requires a second “progeny test” for the old bulls is discussed. A fairly high number of bulls with two progeny tests would be necessary if a precise estimate of genetic progress is desired.  相似文献

This study aimed to determine the effect of flunixin meglumine treatment during and after the transfer of in vivo produced embryos to Angus (cows) and Holstein (cows and heifers) breeds of cattle on pregnancy rate. Holstein cows were used as donors in the study. A double dose of prostaglandin F2α was administered to the recipient animals for synchronization. Uterine flushing was performed in donors on day 7 after artificial insemination. A total of 295 transferable embryos were obtained. These embryos were transferred to Angus cows (n = 85), Holstein heifers (n = 80) and Holstein cows (n = 130). After the transfer, these animals were divided into three subgroups. The first subgroup (TI) was administered flunixin meglumine during embryo transfer, and the second subgroup (TII) was administered flunixin meglumine both during embryo transfer and on days 8 and 9 after the transfer. The third subgroup (TIII) was not administered anything and it was considered the control group. Pregnancy examination of the recipients was performed on days 30–35 after the transfer using real-time ultrasonography. The pregnancy rates after embryo transfer were found to be 43.52% in Angus cows, 42.5% in Holstein heifers, and 24.61% in Holstein cows (p < .05). When the animals were not classified according to breed, the pregnancy rates in subgroups TI, TII and TIII were found to be 29.29%, 45.10% and 29.79%, respectively (p < .05). In addition, the pregnancy rates were higher in TII and TIII subgroups of Angus cows and Holstein heifers compared to that of Holstein cows (p < .05). As a result, the pregnancy rates obtained after embryo transfer in Angus cows and Holstein heifers were found to be higher than that in Holstein cows. In addition, it was concluded that the administration of flunixin meglumine during and during/after embryo transfer has a positive effect on pregnancy rates in Angus cows and Holstein heifers.  相似文献

Ten cows and heifers (Group B) were inoculated into the uterus at oestrus with semen followed by IBR virus for the first insemination and semen alone if a second insemination was necessary. All animals developed infectious pustular vulvo-vaginitis (IPV), and 2 cows conceived to the first and 2 to the second insemination (pregnancy rate of 40 percent requiring 4.5 services per conception). This group was compared with 10 control animals (Group A) which were treated similarly but received tissue culture fluid instead of virus at the first insemination. Group A had a pregnancy rate of 90 percent requiring 1.7 services per conception. Natural mating of 4 bulls with preputial infections due to infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus with 9 susceptible cows and heifers (group D), resulted in the production of lesions of IPV. The IPV infection did not affect their fertility (pregnancy rate of 89 percent requiring 1.4 services per conception) when it was compared to a similar group of females (group C) mated to the same bulls prior to infection with IBR virus (pregnancy rate of 100 percent requiring 1.2 services per conception). The 6 animals in Group B that were not pregnant and returned to oestrus 3 times were found on slaughter to have endometritis, salpingitis and vaginitis. A high incidence, 5 out of 18 (28 percent), of shortened oestrous cycles (less than 18 days) was a feature of the breeding pattern of this group. The undesirable consequences of distributing semen contaminated with IBR virus from artificial insemination centres are apparent.  相似文献

To determine the effects of insemination season (IS; dry: May through October and rainy: November through April), lactation number (LN; heifers, primiparous or multiparous) and their interaction on non-return rate (NRR), conception rate (CR) to first-service and pregnancy loss (PL) of Jersey cattle in Turkey, over 1468 lactation records from 510 Jersey dairy cows were used. There was an interaction between LN × IS on NRR, CR to first-service (p < 0.01) and PL (p < 0.05). The NRR and CR to first-service of heifers inseminated during dry season and of primiparous inseminated during rainy season were higher (p < 0.01) than that of multiparous inseminated during both season. The NRR and CR of heifers and primiparous were higher (p < 0.05) than that of multiparous cows. The insemination of heifers during rainy season and of primiparous and multiparous during dry season increased (p < 0.01) the PL compared to the inseminations of heifers during dry season and of primiparous during rainy season. The PL was lower (p < 0.05) in primiparous than multiparous cows. The results demonstrate that the heifers have high fertility than the lactating, especially multiparous and that IS appeared to have a measurable impact on traits relating to conception of Jersey cattle in the each LN.  相似文献

The frequencies of B-alleles in RDM were analysed in samples of 637 bulls born in 1963–64–65, 794 bulls born in 1960–61–62 and 1226 cows from common herds.Among the 46 distinct alleles for which frequencies were estimated only about 10 alleles have frequencies above 1 %. The frequency of some alleles shows consistent variations during the last 10–15 years.The degree of homozygosity at the B-locus has remained almost constant among bulls during the last 10–15 years, while the homozygosity among cows from common herds shows a decreasing tendency.  相似文献

The objective of the present research was to evaluate the effect of a calf's genetic group on the productive and reproductive efficiency of its Nellore dam. Fixed‐time artificial insemination was applied to 800 cows using semen extracted from Nellore, Simmental and Angus Red bulls. Four hundred eleven cows calved, producing 119 Nellore, 103 ½Simmental–½Nellore and 189 ½Nellore–½Angus Red calves. The second mating period, which paired Nellore cows with Simmental bulls, was initiated 10 days after parturitions began and lasted for 5 months. Based on the two successive parturitions, the cumulative parturition rate for calving periods of 3, 4 and 5 months was calculated. Although no significant difference was observed for birth weight among the genetic groups, cross‐bred calves weighed, on average, 10% more than did pure‐bred calves at the age of 205 days. Nellore dams experienced a gestation period that was 7 days longer than did the cross‐bred dams, and the former showed a higher parturition rate at 90 and 120 days of the calving season, but not at 150 days (calving rates of 80.6, 76.4 and 76.2% for mothers of Nellore, ½Nellore–½Angus Red and ½Nellore–½Simmental, respectively, p > 0.05). At 90 and 120 days, Nellore dams produced more kg of calf per mated dam. In conclusion, in a short breeding season, Nellore dams nursing pure‐bred Nellore calves were found to have a higher biological efficiency compared with Nellore dams nursing cross‐bred calves.  相似文献

A cohort of cows and heifers in 180 separate breeding herds from 170 randomly sampled farms was followed from the 1986 breeding season through to the weaning of their calves in 1987. Data were collected from farm records, survey information collected during farm visits, and provincial government weaning-weight records.

“Kilograms of calf weaned per female-exposed-to-breeding” was calculated as a summary measure of herd productivity. The lowest 25% of cow-herds produced less than 160 kg of calf weaned per cow-exposed-to-breeding, while the highest 25% exceeded 205 kg.

Overall calf crop was 78.1% for cows and 78.5% for heifers. The 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentile estimates for rates, which were components of calf crop (e.g. calving rate), were estimated. The component rates that most influenced calf crop were culling rate for cows and stillbirth rate for heifers.

The reproductive performance of Holstein x Lai Sind crossbred dairy heifers and cows was evaluated at smallholdings in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). The data of 232 heifers and 244 cows (261 lactations) from 35 small dairy farms was collected over a 2-year period, from 2013 to 2014. The overall mean for age at first service (AFS), days between first and last service (DFLS), and age at conception (AC) of heifers was 479 (±80), 38 (±80), and 517 (±114) days, respectively. Average number of services per conception (NSC), conception rate (CR), and conception rate at first service (CRFS) was 1.8 (±1.4), 55, and 58%, respectively. The overall mean for the waiting period (WP), DFLS, and days open (DO) of cows was 109 (±52), 133 (±114), and 242 (±129) days, respectively. The mean for NSC, CR, and CRFS was 4.3 (±2.7), 23, and 14%, respectively. A very significant decrease in AFS and AC according to the year of birth, and a significant increase in AFS according to body weight at first insemination (>320 kg) were observed. The CRFS of heifers inseminated in 2013 was significantly higher than in 2014. Monthly mean CR in heifers and cows was negatively correlated with THI. The WP, DFLS, DO, and NSC of cows significantly decreased according to the year of calving. Cows that calved in rainy season had a significantly longer WP than in dry season. The occurrence of postpartum (PP) diseases was accompanied by an increase in WP, DO, and NSC. A decrease in body condition score (BCS) between calving and 60th day (C60) and also between 60th and 120th day of lactation resulted in a significant increase in WP and DO. A decrease in BCS between C60 was also accompanied by a considerable reduction in CRFS of cows. Season and BCS at insemination had a significant effect on NSC and CR of cows. Reproductive performance was satisfactory for heifers, but poor for cows. Losses of BCS during the first months of lactation and at insemination were the major risk factors for this poor performance. Moreover, the season had a more negative effect on fertility in cows than in heifers.  相似文献

The records kept by 4 artificial breeding centres in south western Victoria were examined and analysed by multiple regression analysis to determine whether daily fluctuations in the number of dairy cows presented for insemination, and daily, monthly and annual fluctuations in the result of first service, were associated with either climatic conditions or nutritional factors assessed as the availability of conserved hay and oats as feed supplements in the district. Over a 122 day observation period from July to October 1974, the number of cows presented daily for insemination was negatively correlated with daily rainfall total (p less than 0.01), wind speed (p less than 0.001) and barometric pressure (p less than 0.05). When the mean value for barometric pressure was used in the regression equation, rainfall totals and wind speeds above zero were associated with a mean reduction of 13.8% in the number of cows presented daily for insemination. The daily percentages of cows not resubmitted for service within 60 days of first service (non-return rates) were unrelated to climatic conditions and to the number of cows presented for insemination. The monthly non-return rate had a negative correlation (p less than 0.001) with the cost of oats but was not related to corresponding climatic changes. Annual non-return rate fluctuations were negatively correlated with the cost of oats (p less than 0.001) and with the July to October rainfall total (p less than 0.01). It is suggested that the correlation of non-return rate with the July to October total rainfall was due to an effect of rainfall total on the nutritional value of the pasture.  相似文献

We previously mapped a quantitative trait locus (QTL) affecting the trait non-return rate at 56 days in heifers to bovine chromosome 9. The purpose of this study was to confirm and refine the position of the QTL by using a denser marker map and fine mapping methods. Five families that previously showed segregation for the QTL were included in the study. The mapping population consisted of 139 bulls in a granddaughter design. All bulls were genotyped for 25 microsatellite markers surrounding the QTL on chromosome 9. We also analysed the correlated trait number of inseminations per service period in heifers. Both traits describe the heifer's ability to become pregnant after insemination. Linkage analysis, linkage disequilibrium and combined linkage and linkage disequilibrium analysis were used to analyse the data. Analysis of the families jointly by linkage analysis resulted in a significant but broad QTL peak for non-return rate. Results from the combined analysis gave a sharp QTL peak with a well-defined maximum in between markers BMS1724 and BM7209, at the same position as where the highest peak from the linkage disequilibrium analysis was found. One of the sire families segregated clearly at this position and the difference in effects between the two sire haplotypes was 2.9 percentage units in non-return rate. No significant results were found for the number of inseminations in the combined analysis.  相似文献
