Ten dry and pregnant Murrah buffaloes were selected to investigate the effect of Asparagus racemosus feeding on hormones, metabolites, milk yield, and plasma cholesterol levels. The treatment groups of buffaloes were fed with A. racemosus (shatavari) @?150?g/day/animal during prepartum and @?300?g/day/animal during the postpartum period. Blood samples collected on ?6, ?4, ?2-week, day of parturition (0), and +2, +4, and +6-week postpartum were analyzed for plasma total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, low-density lipoproteins (LDL), prolactin, cortisol, and blood metabolites. Milk samples collected at weekly intervals (+1, +3, +5, and 7?weeks) were analyzed for total milk fat cholesterol. Prepartum plasma cholesterol concentrations were significantly higher in treatment group over the control (P?<?0.05). Mean plasma triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, glucose, and nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) levels varied nonsignificantly between groups. Plasma prolactin and cortisol concentrations were significantly (P?<?0.01) more in treatment group than in control group. On day of parturition, plasma prolactin, cortisol, LDL, and plasma total cholesterol were higher (P?<?0.01) in treatment group buffaloes in comparison to control group. A. racemosus feeding significantly (P?<?0.01) increased plasma prolactin, cortisol (P?<?0.01), and milk fat cholesterol (P?<?0.05) without affecting total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, glucose, and NEFA concentrations. The buffaloes of treatment group produced more milk (?@?0.526?kg/animal/day) suggesting thereby that A. racemosus is galactopoietic. It was concluded that feeding of A. racemosus increases plasma prolactin and cortisol and decreased plasma total cholesterol and LDL concentration.  相似文献

Feline obesity generally results in aberrations to plasma metabolite levels, such as lipid concentrations and lipoprotein composition. This study sought to investigate the resultant effect of obesity on cholesterol lipoprotein composition and circulating adiponectin concentrations in cats. Plasma glucose, lipids (triglyceride, cholesterol and free fatty acid), insulin and adiponectin concentrations, and cholesterol lipoprotein composition were measured and compared between body condition score (BCS) determined normal healthy control and obese cats. Although the obese group demonstrated higher levels of plasma cholesterol, glucose, and triglycerides, as compared to healthy controls, the difference was insignificant thus indicating that the BCS determined obese cats may have been overweight and not morbidly obese. Plasma insulin levels were significantly higher (25–30%) versus healthy control animals thereby possibly hinting at the ensuing emergence of obesity induced insulin resistance. However, the BCS determined obese cat demonstrated a significant reduction (p < 0.05) in plasma adiponectin concentration and a significant increase (p < 0.05) in LDL-cholesterol % as compared to age matched healthy control animals. This would indicate that changes in plasma adiponectin concentration and cholesterol lipoprotein composition may be good early indicators of obesity in cats.  相似文献

To evaluate potential factors related to avian atherosclerosis, plasma cholesterol and triglyceride values were measured in 35 apparently healthy captive monk parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus). Birds were categorized as healthy or at risk based on body condition score and weight and were also evaluated based on their aviary environmental conditions. Plasma cholesterol mean was 8.008 mmol/L (range: 4.655 to 20.33 mmol/L) or 309.65 mg/dl (range: 180 to 786 mg/dl) for all birds sampled. Plasma triglyceride mean for all birds sampled was 4.364 mmol/L (range: 0.960 to 44.62 mmol/L) or 386.54 mg/dl (range: 85 to 3952 mg/dl). Thirty plasma samples were evaluated through density gradient ultracentrifugation lipid profiling techniques used to examine risk of cardiovascular disease in humans. The resultant lipid density profile graph was determined from the hydrated densities of the following lipids: triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and subfractions, and high-density lipoproteins and subfractions. When analyzed using linear discriminant analysis, lipid profiles of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, LDL1, LDL2, and high-density lipoprotein 2b subfractions were increased (P < 0.05) in at-risk monk parakeets when compared with healthy cohorts. Gender and diet had no apparent effect on plasma cholesterol or triglyceride concentrations. Cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations and lipoprotein density profiles from captive monk parakeets, a species known to be affected by atherosclerosis, may prove useful as markers for use in future investigation of atherosclerosis in birds. However, the consequence of increased plasma lipid concentrations and changes of lipoprotein profiles on avian health requires additional investigation.  相似文献

The accuracy of predicting energy balance (EB) using various milk, blood, and other indicators was determined in 23 Holstein-Friesian cows that were grazing pasture in very early lactation. The concentration of milk acetone was negatively correlated (r=−0.64) with EB (p<0.05) as were β-hydroxybutyrate 6 (BHBA) (r=0.76) and non-esterified fatty acids (r=0.56) in plasma, age (r=−0.49), and mean liveweight (r=−0.46). The concentration of plasma glucose was positively correlated (r=0.79) with EB (p<0.05) as were insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) (r=0.57) in plasma and change in liveweight (r=0.39). The best prediction model for EB included plasma glucose and plasma BHBA (r=0.84). Milk acetone alone (r=0.64) formed the best prediction model as an ‘on-farm’ indicator.Milk acetone concentration was correlated (r=0.89) with plasma BHBA so that a milk acetone concentration of 0.14 mmol/L was equivalent to a blood BHBA concentration of 1.2 mmol/L (critical level for identification of cows with sub-clinical ketosis). The relationship between plasma glucose and IGF-1 was curvilinear with levels of IGF-1 rapidly increasing above a plasma glucose concentration of 3.2 mmol/L. Body condition score (BCS) converged to 4 (scale 1-8) post-partum with the loss increasing rapidly when BCS at calving was above 5.5.The results of this study confirm that milk acetone may be an accurate and practical indicator for estimating EB of cows in early lactation on a predominantly pasture-based diet. Where cows may be sampled on a once-off basis, plasma glucose and plasma BHBA together explain a large portion of the variation in EB.

The effects of increased postruminal supply of casein, corn starch, and soybean oil on plasma concentrations of the gastrointestinal hormones ghrelin and oxyntomodulin (OXM) were investigated. Four mid-lactation Holstein cows were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square. Treatments were continuous abomasal infusions (23 h/d) for 7 d of water, soybean oil (500 g/d), corn starch (1100 g/d), or casein (800 g/d). Jugular vein plasma was obtained every 30 min for 7 h on days 1 and 7. Soybean oil and casein infusion decreased preprandial plasma ghrelin concentration by approximately 20% on both d (time-by-treatment P < 0.10); however, dry matter intake (DMI) was depressed only after 7 d of oil infusion. Infusion of soybean oil, corn starch, or casein did not change the plasma OXM concentration (P > 0.20). The present data indicate that plasma ghrelin concentration is depressed immediately before feeding by the postruminal infusion of soybean oil and casein, but it is not affected during the postprandial period. Plasma ghrelin concentration was not altered (P > 0.20), pre- or postfeeding, by increased postruminal supply of corn starch. In addition, plasma OXM concentration did not respond (P > 0.20) to postruminal nutrient infusion. In conclusion, a decrease in DMI when fat is infused could be partially explained by the decrease in prefeeding plasma ghrelin concentration, but a decrease in prefeeding plasma ghrelin concentration is not always associated with a decrease in DMI, as observed for the infusion of casein. Plasma OXM concentration was not affected by postruminal infusion of macronutrients.  相似文献

The aim of the experiment was to investigate the effects of cage floor and cage density on stress parameters of laying hens. A total of 162 brown laying hens (Hyline Brown), aged 34 weeks, were used in the experiment. Compact-type battery cages, with three floors, were used. Hens were allocated as one, three or five hens in each of 18 cages to obtain three different cage density groups of 1968, 656 and 393.8 cm2 floor area per hen, respectively. The same number of cages with different cage density were allocated to three different battery floors (first floor=top, second=middle, third=bottom) systematically. Values for body weight, mortality rate, egg weight, egg production, egg quality characteristics, egg yolk cholesterol content, the levels of blood plasma corticosterone, serum glucose, total cholesterol and triglycerides, the ratio of heterophils to lymphocytes (H-L ratio), antibody titers, claw length score, foot health score, plumage score and throat skin injuries were taken as indicators of stress. The values for egg weight (P<0.01) at the first floor were greater than the other floor levels. The group with five hens per cage had significantly lower mean estimates (P<0.01) than other groups with respects to body weight (P<0.001), egg production (P<0.001), egg weight (P<0.001) and plumage score (P<0.01), while significantly higher mean estimates for egg albumen index (P<0.01), Haugh unit (P<0.01), serum glucose (P<0.001), and H-L ratio (P<0.001). Serum cholesterol was higher in cages with one hen than that with five hens, whereas plasma corticosterone was lower. Antibody titers in cages with one hen was similar to that with three or five hens; however, those with three hens had higher titers than those with five hens. Values for egg breaking strength, yolk index, egg cholesterol content, and foot health score were not affected by cage density or floor. The results suggest that the allocation of three hens per cage had no measurable effect on health and welfare.  相似文献

The effects of exposure to natural parasitic infestations from birth to 2 years of age on body growth and blood composition were studied in British (Shorthorn × Hereford), Brahman cross and Africander cross female cattle grazing in a tropical environment. Within breeds, one half of the animals were treated regularly for the control of ecto- and endoparasites while the other half were untreated.Treatment against parasites over the trial period increased body weights, 50, 34, and 23 kg respectively within the Africander cross. Brahman cross and British breeds. Without treatment for parasites the Africander cross were 52 and the Brahman cross 27 kg heavier than the British animals at 2 years of age.The blood composition was compared during age periods when faecal egg counts (e.p.g.) were high (11–15 months) and low (19–22 months). Within breeds, treatment increased (P < 0.001) the haematocrits and the plasma concentrations of thyroxine, cholesterol, glucose and albumin when the e.p.g. was high. During 19–22 months of age were no significant differences in haematocrit nor in the concentrations of cholesterol and glucose between untreated and treated animals within breeds, but differences (P < 0.01) in the plasma concentrations of thyroxine and albumin persisted. The total e.p.g., Cooperia and Haemonchus e.p.g. and the numbers off mature ticks, (Boophilus microplus) during 11–15 months of age in untreated animals were negatively correlated within breeds (P < 0.001) with the haematocrit and plasma levels of thyroxine and cholesterol in this period and also with body weight gains from birth to 2 years of age.The results are discussed in relation to the development of blood biochemical tests for monitoring the health and production of cattle in tropical regions taking account of genotype and environment.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationships between changes in plasma leptin concentration and feed intake or bodyweight in female and castrated male lambs with fattening. Four female and four castrated male lambs were used and were fed roughage and concentrate supplemented with beef tallow ad libitum for 28 weeks. Although the feed intake and bodyweight increased with fattening in both the castrated male and female lambs, they decreased at 24–28 weeks in the female lambs. At the end of fattening, the crude fat content in the muscle (loin) of the female lambs was significantly higher than in the castrated male lambs (P < 0.05), while the crude protein content in the loin and fillet meat was higher in the castrated male than in the female lambs (P < 0.05). The plasma leptin concentration showed high values at a later stage of fattening (P < 0.05). In the female lambs the plasma insulin concentration increased at a later stage of fattening (P < 0.05) and was positively correlated (P < 0.0001, r = 0.78) with plasma leptin. Plasma metabolites (glucose, nonesterified fatty acid, total cholesterol and triglyceride) concentrations were also changed with fattening. Plasma total cholesterol was positively related to plasma leptin, more closely in the female than in the castrated male lambs (in females, r = 0.63, P < 0.001; in males, r = 0.38, P < 0.01). The accumulation of body fat was probably accelerated by the consumption of a lot of concentrate feed supplemented with treated beef tallow and by the stimulation of insulin with fattening. Consequently, the plasma leptin concentration increased, especially toward the end of the fattening period. The decrease in feed intake and bodyweight after the 24th week of fattening was possibly caused by an increase in leptin that is involved in the homeostatic regulation of body energy by regulating appetite.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between plasma leptin concentration and body fat content in dogs. ANIMALS: 20 spayed female Beagles that were 10 months old at the start of the experiment. PROCEDURE: Dogs were kept under regulated feeding and exercise conditions for 21 weeks, resulting in a wide range of body weights, body condition scores (BCS), and subcutaneous thicknesses. Plasma leptin concentration was measured by use of a canine leptin-specific ELISA test to evaluate its correlation to body fat content estimated by the deuterium oxide dilution method. Plasma concentrations of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), and nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) were also measured. RESULTS: Body fat content (9 to 60% of body weight) was positively and closely correlated (r = 0.920; n = 20; P < 0.001) to plasma leptin concentration (0.67 to 8.06 ng/ml), compared with other variables (ie, glucose, cholesterol, TG, and NEFA; r = 0.142, 0.412, 0.074, and 0.182, respectively). CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The positive relationship between plasma leptin concentration and body fat content in dogs was similar to correlations reported for humans and rodents, suggesting that plasma leptin is a quantitative marker of adiposity in dogs.  相似文献

Blood parameters are useful to measure physiological disturbances in chelonians. Thus they can provide important information for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases. The aim of this paper was to determine the reference range of plasma glucose, total protein, triglycerides, cholesterol and urea levels, as well as hematocrit, hemoglobin, red blood cell, thrombocyte and white blood cell counts for healthy Podocnemis expansa (Schweigger, 1812), bred in a turtle farm in the Amazonas State, Brazil. Plasma glucose, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), lymphocytes and heterophils were the parameters with the smallest variations. Significant (p < 0.001) correlations between red blood cells count and hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration were found. Turtle P. expansa had lymphocytes, azurophils, heterophils, eosinophils and basophils with morphologic features similar to the ones of others turtles species. No investigated blood parameter was influenced by sex. In further studies, the established reference ranges might be useful for the health assessment of this turtle species.  相似文献

We studied the influence of vitamin E on intramuscular collagen characteristics and on metacarpal growth plate evolution in suckling lambs. Twenty-four 5-d-old Ile de France suckling male lambs were divided into four equal weight groups, and weekly i.m. injections of DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate (Control group, 0 IU; Group 1, 625 IU; Group 2, 1,000 IU; and Group 3, 1,500 IU) were given until the lambs were 33 d old. Blood samples were withdrawn for plasma alpha-tocopherol, cholesterol, and triglyceride analyses when the lambs were slaughtered at 40 d of age. Hot carcass weight, metacarpal and metatarsal bone characteristics, and metacarpal growth plate width were measured. After 24 h at 2 to 4 degrees C, semitendinosus muscles were removed for intramuscular collagen analyses. Weight was not influenced by treatment, but lambs in Group 1 had a higher (P < .01) intramuscular collagen content than the other groups. A positive quadratic correlation was found between total collagen and vitamin E doses (r = .511; P < .05). Amount and percentage of soluble collagen increased in muscles of all three vitamin E-treated groups compared with the control group. However, hydroxylysyl pyridinoline concentration decreased with vitamin E injection, but the difference compared to control lambs was only significant for the group injected with 1,000 IU. Amount of soluble collagen was strongly correlated to total collagen concentration (r = .879; P < .0001). It was also related to the alpha-tocopherol/(cholesterol + triglycerides) ratio in plasma (r = .431; P < .04). However, the correlation between soluble collagen percentage and alpha-tocopherol concentration in plasma was not significant (r = .369; P < .08). Bone length, weight, and diameter did not change, but the thickness of metacarpal growth plate increased as the DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate dose increased; in Groups 2 and 3, the growth plate was significantly wider than in Group 1 and the controls. Growth plate width correlated with alpha-tocopherol/(cholesterol + triglycerides) ratio in plasma (r = .481; P < .02).  相似文献

Background

As a member of the Paramyxoviridae group, Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is the key causative agent of Newcastle disease (ND) that attacks chickens, turkeys and other avian birds. Surviving birds showed lower feed utilization, growth performance or egg production, which results in severe economic losses. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different doses of NDV immunization on growth performance, plasma variables and immune response of broiler chickens.

Methods

A total of 480 one-day-old Arbor Acres broilers were randomly administrated with 0, 4, 6 or 8 doses of NDV at 12 d and 28 d, respectively. Each group consisted of ten replicates with 12 birds each. Growth performance and organ weight were recorded. Plasma concentration of glucose, total protein, cholesterol, triglycerides and nonesterified fatty acid was determined using commercial kits. The concentration of plasma corticosterone and insulin was measured using commercially available radio immune assay kits. Serum antibody titer and peripheral blood lymphocyte proliferation were also recorded.

Results

The results showed that NDV decreased body weight gain (BWG), and increased Feed:Gain ratio at 1–21 d at all doses (P < 0.05). Plasma insulin concentration was lower in all immunization groups after the first immunization at 12 d (P < 0.01). The rest of the plasma indexes were not affected by NDV immunization, including glucose, total protein, cholesterol, triglycerides, nonesterified fatty acid, heterophil/lymphocyte ratio, as well as the proliferation of peripheral blood lymphocyte (P > 0.05). Compared with the control group, NDV treatment elevated NDV antibody titer at 10 d after the first inoculation (P < 0.05), and at d 5, 9 and 13 after the second inoculation (P < 0.05). Repeated NDV inoculation had no deleterious impacts on body composition at 42 d, and nutrient accretion rates at 8–42 d (P > 0.05).

Conclusions

In conclusion, NDV challenge decreased BWG and feed efficiency in earlier stage of growth. However, NDV treatment at 6 doses down-regulated the Feed:Gain ratio by 6.36 % throughout the whole growing period. These data suggest that appropriate lower doses of NDV inoculation increase feed efficiency of broiler chickens.

Cardiac autonomic neuropathy in dogs with diabetic mellitus (DM) was evaluated using measurement of heart rate variability (HRV) and plasma norepinephrine (NE) concentration. Dogs were divided into 2 groups; the control non-DM group (n?=?13) and the diabetic group (n?=?22) which was further divided into the well-controlled DM (n?=?11) and the poorly-controlled DM subgroups (n?=?11) according to their fasting plasma fructosamine concentrations. The electrocardiogram (ECG) was recorded continuously for at least 30?min to yield HRV. The results showed that in the poorly-controlled DM subgroup, the average of normal R-R interval (mean N-N), SD of the mean of all 5-min segments of normal RR intervals (SDANN) were lower than the control group while heart rate was higher (P?<?0.05). The NNA, SDNN, SDNN index and pNN50% were significantly lower when compared with the well-controlled DM subgroup (P?<?0.05). The high frequency (HF) and total power were significantly lower while the ratio of low to high frequency (LF/HF) was higher (P?<?0.05) when compared with the well-controlled DM subgroup. Moreover, in the poorly-controlled DM subgroup, plasma NE concentration was lower than the control group (210?±?37 vs. 479?±?74?pg/ml, P?<?0.05). There was a significantly negative correlation between plasma NE and plasma fructosamine concentrations. It is concluded that cardiac autonomic neuropathy occurred in poorly-controlled DM dogs. The sympathetic activity was suppressed as shown by decrease in both plasma NE concentration and LF component.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of a romifidine infusion on antinociception and sedation, and to investigate its relationship with plasma concentration.Study designProspective, experimental, nonrandomized trial.AnimalsA total of 10 healthy adult warmblood horses.MethodsRomifidine (loading dose: 0.08 mg kg–1, infusion: 0.03 mg kg–1 hour–1) was administered intravenously over 120 minutes. Romifidine plasma concentrations were determined by capillary electrophoresis. Sedation quality and nociceptive thresholds were evaluated at regular time points before, during and after romifidine administration. The nociceptive withdrawal reflex was elicited by electrical stimulation at the thoracic limb using a dedicated threshold tracking algorithm and recorded by electromyography at the deltoid muscle. A pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic model was established and correlation between romifidine plasma concentration and main output variables tested.ResultsA two compartmental model best described the romifidine pharmacokinetic profile. The nociceptive thresholds increased compared with baseline in all horses from 10 to 146 minutes after romifidine administration (p < 0.001). Peak effect reached 5.7 ± 2.3 times the baseline threshold (mean ± standard deviation). The effect/concentration relationship followed a counter-clockwise hysteresis loop. The mean plasma concentration was weakly correlated to nociceptive thresholds (p < 0.0071, r = 0.392). The sedative effects were significant until 160 minutes but variable, not correlated to plasma concentration (p = 0.067), and weakly correlated to nociceptive thresholds (p < 0.0001, r = 0.33).Conclusions and clinical relevanceRomifidine elicited a marked antinociceptive effect. Romifidine-induced antinociception appeared with a delayed onset and lasted longer than sedation after discontinuing its administration.  相似文献

It has been shown that some dietary plant proteins beneficially influence lipid metabolism in animals. The effect of pea protein in this respect however has not yet been investigated. Therefore, we studied the effect of purified pea protein on the lipid metabolism in rats. Twenty-four rats received diets with either 200 g/kg of casein or purified pea protein for 16 days. Concentrations of triacylglycerols in liver, plasma and lipoproteins did not differ between both groups of rats. However, rats fed the pea protein diet had a lower concentration of total cholesterol in the liver and the very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) fraction than rats fed the casein diet (p < 0.05); cholesterol concentration in plasma, low density lipoproteins (LDL) and high density lipoproteins (HDL) did not differ between both groups. Rats fed pea protein moreover had an increased mRNA concentration of cholesterol-7α-hydroxylase in the liver and an increased amount of bile acids excreted via faeces compared with rats fed casein (p < 0.05). Concomitantly, mRNA concentrations of sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP)-2 and its target genes 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase and LDL receptor in the liver were increased in rats fed pea protein (p < 0.05). The data of this study suggests that pea protein stimulates formation and excretion of bile acids, which leads to a reduced hepatic cholesterol concentration and a reduced secretion of cholesterol via VLDL. An increased gene expression of SREBP-2 and its target genes HMG-CoA reductase and LDL receptor may be a means to compensate for the increased loss of cholesterol for bile acid synthesis.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of supplementation of dl-methionine (DLM) and liquid dl-methionine hydroxy analog free acid (MHA) in diets on productive performance, blood chemical, and hematological profiles in broiler chickens under tropical conditions. In all, 216 commercial male broiler chicks were used to compare two dietary methionine sources, DLM and MHA. Chicks were raised for 35 days in battery cages situated in high ambient temperature and relative humidity open-side housing. The chicks were divided into three treatments in six replications with 12 chicks each. A completely randomized design was used. The treatment groups were (1) control group (methionine and total sulfur amino acid deficient diet), (2) supplementation of DLM as the methionine source in diet, and (3) supplementation of MHA as the methionine source in diet. The productive performance of DLM and MHA was not significantly different. Both supplementation of DLM and MHA significantly improved final body weight, body weight gain, average daily gain, and feed conversion ratio when compared to the control group (P?<?0.01). Both DLM and MHA supplementation significantly increased the plasma cystine concentration level (P?<?0.05). The use of DLM enhanced the plasma methionine concentration (P?<?0.01) and increased the heterophil/lymphocyte ratio (P?<?0.05). While MHA elevated the plasma taurine and uric acid concentration levels (P?<?0.05). In conclusion, under tropical conditions, there was no significant difference between DLM and MHA supplementation on productive performance; plasma methionine concentration was increased by DLM supplementation, while plasma taurine and uric acid concentration were significantly increased by MHA supplementation.  相似文献

Background

Insulin secretion and tissue sensitivity to insulin is considered to be one of the factors controlling lipid metabolism post partum. The objective of this study was to compare glucose-induced blood insulin and metabolite responses in Estonian Holstein (EH, n = 14) and Estonian Red (ER, n = 14) cows.

Methods

The study was carried out using the glucose tolerance test (GTT) performed at 31 ± 1.9 days post partum during negative energy balance. Blood samples were obtained at -15, -5, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 min relative to infusion of 0.15 g/kg BW glucose and analysed for glucose, insulin, triglycerides (TG), non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), cholesterol and β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). Applying the MIXED Procedure with the SAS System the basal concentration of cholesterol, and basal concentration and concentrations at post-infusion time points for other metabolites, area under the curve (AUC) for glucose and insulin, clearance rate (CR) for glucose, and maximum increase from basal concentration for glucose and insulin were compared between breeds.

Results

There was a breed effect on blood NEFA (P < 0.05) and a time effect on all metabolites concentration (P < 0.01). The following differences were observed in EH compared to ER: lower blood insulin concentration 5 min after glucose infusion (P < 0.05), higher glucose concentration 20 (P < 0.01) and 30 min (P < 0.05) after infusion, and higher NEFA concentration before (P < 0.01) and 5 min after infusion (P < 0.05). Blood TG concentration in ER remained stable, while in EH there was a decrease from the basal level to the 40th min nadir (P < 0.01), followed by an increase to the 60th min postinfusion (P < 0.01).

Conclusion

Our results imply that glucose-induced changes in insulin concentration and metabolite responses to insulin differ between EH and ER dairy cows.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to compare hepatic fatty acid deposition, plasma lipid level and expression of cholesterol homeostasis controlling genes in the liver of rats (Wistar Albino; n = 32) and pigs (Large White × Landrace; n = 32) randomly assigned into two groups of 16 animals each and fed 10 weeks the diet with either 2.5% of fish oil (F; source of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid, EPA+DHA) or 2.5% of palm oil (P; high content of saturated fatty acids; control). F‐rats deposited in the liver three times less EPA, but 1.3 times more DHA than F‐pigs (p < 0.05). Dietary fish oil relative to palm oil increased PPARα and SREBP‐2 gene expression much strongly (p < 0.01) in the pig liver in comparison with the rat liver, but expression of Insig‐1 and Hmgcr genes in the liver of the F‐pigs relative to the expression of these genes in the liver of the P‐pigs was substantially lower (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05 respectively) as compared to rats. When plasma lipid concentration in the F‐animals was expressed as a ratio of the plasma concentration in the P‐counterparts, dietary fish oil decreased HDL cholesterol less (p < 0.01), but LDL cholesterol and triacylglycerols more (p < 0.05 and p < 0.001 respectively) in rats than in pigs: more favourable effect of fish oil on rat plasma lipids in comparison with pigs can therefore be concluded. Concentration of total cholesterol and both its fractions in the rat plasma was negatively correlated (p < 0.01) with hepatic DHA, but also with unsaturated myristic and palmitic acid respectively. It has been concluded that regarding the similarity of the plasma lipid levels to humans, porcine model can be considered superior; however, using this model, dietary fish oil at the tested amount (2.5%) was not able to improve plasma lipid markers in comparison with saturated palm oil.  相似文献
