A six-month-old, male Black Russian terrier dog was presented for oral masses on the distolingual aspect of the mandibular left and right first molar teeth. Intraoral dental radiographs showed periodontal support of the small teeth (denticles). Oral and radiographic examinations of the remaining teeth indicated no other dental abnormalities. The denticles had histomorphologic features of small teeth including normal appearing crown and root structures. Clinical and histopathologic examinations resulted in a diagnosis of bilateral compound odontomas with completely erupted denticles. Treatment consisted of extraction of all denticles and extensive curettage. The dog had uncomplicated wound healing with no signs of recurrence based on oral examination performed 15-months postoperatively.  相似文献

Compound odontoma was diagnosed in a seven-month-old boxer dog. The hamartoma presented as an expansile painless mass in the right rostral hemimandible, causing severe distortion of the incisor arcade. Radiographs revealed filling of the medullary cavity of the bone by soft tissue containing mineralised foci, with attendant cortical thinning. The lesion was excised. Histological evaluation demonstrated a connective tissue stroma containing multiple irregular foci of enamel and dentine resembling rudimentary teeth (denticles). These were typically bounded by an ameloblastic zone and contained a central area of odontoblasts and dental pulp. At nine months after surgery, no recurrence has been recognised.  相似文献

A seven-year-old female German shepherd dog was presented with a history of anorexia, weight loss and fever of three months' duration. On general examination she showed a marked behavioural change represented by episodic excitement and 'fly snapping. A general blood screening showed neutrophilia with left shift and hyperalbuminaemia. Survey radiographs were taken and a mass was identified in the cranial mediastinum. Cytological examination of fine needle aspiration smears of the mass yielded a presumptive diagnosis of lymphoma. The dog was euthanased and necropsy findings concluded that the primary tumour was a thymoma; metastases were found in the choroid plexus, leptomeninges, cerebral cortex and hippocampus.  相似文献

A 13-year-old neutered female mongrel dog presented with a 1-year history of stertorous respiration. On computed tomography examination, a mass was demonstrated in the nasal cavity. Open biopsy of the mass was performed and a diagnosis of olfactory esthesioneuroblastoma was made on histological examination. The dog was treated with orthovoltage x-ray radiation (total dose; 53 Gy given in 14 fractions over an 8 week period). Computed tomography after the twelfth irradiation revealed that tumour size had decreased. Although clinical signs were absent in the 4 months after irradiation, re-growth of the tumour was detected by radiographic evaluation and histological examination. The dog was again treated with orthovoltage x-ray radiation (total dose; 30 Gy given in three fractions over a 4-week period), however, tumour regrowth was again detected 3 months later. Clinical treatment of this tumour type has not been previously reported.  相似文献

A 10-year-old male German shepherd dog was referred for evaluation of a cranial cervical mass causing progressively worsening respiratory distress. A fine-needle aspirate of the mass was obtained and the cytology results were compatible with a carcinoma. The dog underwent chemotherapy without clinical improvement and was ultimately euthanased because of clinical deterioration. At post-mortem examination, an irregular multi-lobated mass in the cranial cervical region was observed causing ventro-lateral tracheal deviation. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry revealed a mixed population of CD3 lymphocytes and macrophages in an exuberant fibrous stroma, associated with dispersed cytokeratin-positive epithelial cells with marked eosinophilic cytoplasm. Some of the epithelial cells were arranged in concentric clusters that were interpreted as Hassall's corpuscles. Histopathological examination of the thyroid gland revealed several neoplastic emboli composed of epithelial cells similar to those observed in the cervical mass. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of an ectopic cervical thymic carcinoma in a dog.  相似文献

A 6-year and 9 month-old, male, Shih Tzu dog showed ataxia and trembling. By MRI examination, a mass (1 cm) was found in the right cerebellum. As the dog did not respond to radiation therapy, and showed a rise of intracranial pressure, he was euthanized. The cerebellar mass was soft and hemorrhagic. Histologically, the mass contained vimentin-positive spindle- or polyhedral-shaped cells arranged in a cord-like pattern. Mucinous materials were observed in the intercellular spaces. Ultrastructural examination revealed cell processes, microtubule-like structures and desmosomes. The case was diagnosed as myxoid type meningioma.  相似文献

A 9-year-old German Shepherd cross was presented with a history of dyspnoea, decreased activity, episodic collapse and abdominal distention. Cytological examination of thoracic and abdominal fluid demonstrated neoplastic cells, either round or mesenchymal in nature. The dog was found to have a mass in the heart-base region. Exploratory thoracotomy was performed to identify the exact nature of the mass histologically, and to determine if it was the source of neoplastic cells seen in the effusions. Histological diagnosis of the mass was mesothelioma. Postoperatively the dog developed thrombocytopenia, probably immune-mediated, which was treated with prednisone therapy. The dog developed signs of respiratory distress shortly before discharge and, due to its deteriorating condition, was euthanased. A necropsy was performed and tissues were collected for histological examination. The histological diagnosis was angiotropic intravascular lymphosarcoma. Diagnosis of mesothelioma was not confirmed.  相似文献

A 14-year-old Maltese dog presented for complete medical examination due to intermittent vomiting and diarrhea observed during the previous two days. A single, solitary, lobulated cystic mass was observed in the liver upon ultrasonographic and computed tomographic examination. After surgical hepatic resection to remove the mass, histological examination revealed a multilocular cyst lined by cuboidal to columnar epithelial cells, which is consistent with biliary cystadenoma. Here, we report the clinical, clinicopathological, histopathological, and diagnostic imaging findings of biliary cystadenoma in a dog.  相似文献

A 15‐year‐old, spayed, female poodle dog was presented for evaluation of a mass of tissue prolapsed from the vulva. The dog had been hysterectomized when it was 5 years old. A vaginal mass had been removed approximately 10 months before presentation. Haematological and serum biochemistry analyses demonstrated mild leucocytosis and glycaemia. A vaginal smear was predominantly made up of parabasal cells and intermediate cells with no neoplastic cells. Thoracal and abdominal radiographic findings were unremarkable. The ovaries could not be identified using abdominal ultrasonography. A midline exploratory laparotomy identified both ovaries that were surgically excised. The vaginal mass was also removed following an episiotomy procedure. Histopathological examination of the mass demonstrated that it was a neurofibroma. Both ovaries had cystic changes. Four months after the surgery, the owner reported that the dog was clinically normal. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first reported case of a vaginal neurofibroma after an incomplete ovariohysterectomy in the dog.  相似文献

A seven-year-old, entire female boxer presented with a history of restless behaviour and inappetence. Physical examination revealed that the dog was listless and had a hunched gait. Neurological examination was normal. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a 4 cm x 4 cm mass in the cranial pelvic canal. Neurological abnormalities were detected three days after presentation, and progressed from proprioceptive deficits to loss of deep pain sensation in the pelvic limbs over a two-day period. The dog was euthanased and postmortem examination revealed that the pelvic mass was a urethral haemangiosarcoma with metastasis to the second lumbar vertebra. This case is unusual as urethral tumours are usually transitional cell carcinomas and frequently present with signs of dysuria.  相似文献

A 12-year-old intact female mixed breed dog was presented for chronic, intermittent vomiting and diarrhoea. On endoscopic examination a protruding mass arising from the mucosal surface of the pyloric region was detected. Cytological and histological examination revealed an accumulation of pleomorphic round/oval phagocytic cells suggesting histiocytic origin. This was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. No extra-gastric involvement was detected on clinical examination or at necropsy. This is the first report of primary gastric histiocytic sarcoma in a dog.  相似文献

A 6-year-old 41.8-kg (92-lb) sexually intact male German Shepherd Dog used as an attack and pursuit dog by the local police department was examined because of general malaise and sudden onset of ataxia. Abnormal findings included a high WBC count, fever, and ongoing weight loss. Physical examination was unrevealing initially, in part because of the aggressive nature of the dog. Following treatment with antibiotics, an abdominal mass was detected during a second physical examination, and was confirmed radiographically. Subsequent ultrasound examination revealed a walled mass of mixed echogenicity, with areas of detectable fluid movement. A laparotomy was performed to remove the mass, which weighed 2.2 kg (4.5 lb). Histologic findings were consistent with botryomycosis, and Staphylococcus intermedius was isolated on bacteriologic culture. Postoperative treatment consisted of intravenous, intra-abdominal, and oral administration of antibiotics. Diagnosis of botryomycosis requires histologic examination and bacteriologic culture of the lesion. Treatment consists of surgical intervention and administration of antimicrobials. Botryomycosis is a poorly understood and rarely reported disease found in many species. A computer search of the literature failed to reveal any previous reports of intra-abdominal botryomycosis in dogs.  相似文献

A 2‐year, 7‐month‐old female Chihuahua was admitted for a mammary mass measuring one cm in diameter. The dog had a history of demodicosis for 4 months and showed signs of pseudopregnancy at the time of the visit. Cytologic examination of an aspirate of the mass revealed a large number of macrophages containing nonstaining bacterial rods, which were acid‐fast in a Ziehl–Neelsen stain, suggesting mycobacterial infection. Histologic examination of the mass revealed a pyogranulomatous mastitis characterized by an infiltration with macrophages containing acid‐fast bacteria. Mycobacterium kansasii was subsequently cultured and identified by PCR. Surgical excision of the mass resulted in the growth of other dermal masses, but antimycobacterial treatment with rifampin and clarithromycin resolved these masses within 1 month. Three months after discontinuation of the treatment, similar organisms were found in aspirates of the enlarged bilateral inguinal lymph nodes by cytologic examination. Despite antimycobacterial treatment for another 4 months, there was no improvement and demodicosis also recurred. The dog eventually died of lymphoma 5 months after the relapse of mycobacterial infection. Although M kansasii is considered an important pathogen for pulmonary and cutaneous disease in people, there is only one report in a dog with an infection in a pleural effusion. As both adult‐onset demodicosis in dogs as well as mycobacterial infection in people have been associated with T‐lymphocyte deficiency, the M kansasii infection in this dog may have been associated with a condition of immune compromise.  相似文献

A 7-year-old, intact female mixed-breed dog was presented for evaluation of hematuria. Physical examination revealed a suprapubic mass. Ultrasonographic examination showed a large lobular mass occupying the urinary bladder. At the owners' request, the dog was euthanatized and a postmortem examination was performed. Necropsy confirmed the presence of a lobular mass of about 5- to 6-cm diameter protruding into the lumen of the bladder. Histologically, the mass was composed of a large number of atypical lymphoid cells in the lamina propria and mucosal epithelium. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells expressed CD3 but not CD79alpha or keratin and vimentin, supporting a diagnosis of T-cell lymphoma.  相似文献

A 7.5-year-old male black-tailed prairie dog was presented for diarrhea of 3 weeks’ duration. Clinical examination revealed a multinodular mass in the left cranial quadrant of the abdomen that was confirmed with ultrasound. An exploratory laparotomy was performed and the majority of the mass and adherent spleen were removed. Histological diagnosis was severe pancreatic nodular hyperplasia associated with secondary pancreatitis and passive splenic congestion. The prairie dog recovered without complications. Three weeks following the surgical procedure, follow-up ultrasound showed no evidence of abnormal tissue in the pancreaticoduodenal area. Two months postsurgery, a follow-up computed tomographic scan revealed no significant abnormalities. No recurrence was noted 13 months following the mass removal. This article describes the diagnosis of pancreatic nodular hyperplasia in a prairie dog and successful treatment of complications arising from the condition by partial pancreatectomy.  相似文献

A 4-year-old male Shiba dog initially presented with pain of an undetermined origin and hypersensitivity to touch. Seven days later, the dog developed ataxia, hind-leg weakness and knuckling. The dog died on 20 days after presentation. Postmortem examination revealed a mass in the body of thoracic vertebra. Histopathologically, the mass consisted of granulomatous inflammation, including fungal organisms that were immunohistochemically positive for Candida albicans. Similar granulomatous lesions were observed in the systemic lymph nodes, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, prostate gland, thyroid glands and heart. This case was diagnosed as systemic candidiasis with spondylitis.  相似文献

A 10-year-old male Drahthaar dog with unilateral cryptorchidism was examined because of feminisation and myelotoxicity. Radiography and ultrasonography revealed an abdominal mass which was surgically removed. The mass was identified as a Sertoli cell tumour on histological examination. Findings on bone marrow examination were compatible with aplasia due to the oestrogens secreted by the tumoral cells. Treatment with fluids, antibiotics, whole blood transfusions, corticosteroids and lithium carbonate was unsuccessful. Survival time was 22 days after surgery.  相似文献

A male mixed breed dog of unknown age was presented with sudden onset of blindness and a slightly exophthalmic right eye. Ophthalmoscopically, a spherical, pinkish mass protruding from the region of the optic disc into the vitreous was seen in the right eye. Ultrasound and computer tomography demonstrated an extension of the mass into the right retrobulbar space, continuing intracranially to the optic chiasm. Cytologic findings, obtained by ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration from the retrobulbar space, were consistent with myxosarcoma. On the basis of these findings of a well-delineated mass in the brain stem area, irradiation was planned as the therapy of choice. The dog was treated under general anesthesia using a proton beam at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, Villigen, Switzerland). A curative protocol (56 Gy in 16 fractions over 4 weeks, 3.5 Gy/fraction) was used. Twenty-seven days post radiation therapy the dog was euthanized, as clinical symptoms progressed. Enlargement of the intracranial tumor was seen on a CT study repeated on the day of euthanasia. A gross pathologic and histologic examination were performed and confirmed the diagnosis of a myxosarcoma involving the eye, retrobulbar space of the right side, and the optic chiasm. Post-mortem examination failed to identify any abnormalities or metastases elsewhere in the body.  相似文献

A 7-year-old female Leonberger dog was referred to the National Veterinary School of Lyon Teaching Hospital with a 2-day history of anorexia and bleeding. A mammary mass had been removed 7 months earlier, but histologic examination was not performed. On physical examination, the dog was depressed and had pale mucous membranes and numerous petechiae and hematomas. Significant laboratory findings were moderate thrombocytopenia, prolonged prothrombin, activated partial thromboplastin, and thrombin times, hypofibrinogenemia, and increased concentration of fibrin(ogen) degradation products. A peripheral blood smear, buffy coat preparation, and bone marrow aspirate contained low numbers of large atypical cells that had moderate nuclear:cytoplasmic ratios, oval nuclei with multiple prominent nuclei, and basophilic cytoplasm with villous projections. A small nodule was found in the left inguinal mammary gland, and a fine-needle aspirate contained cells similar to those in blood and bone marrow. In samples of blood, bone marrow, and the mammary mass, the neoplastic cells were immunoreactive for cytokeratin. The diagnosis was mammary carcinoma with secondary disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and disseminated tumor cells in bone marrow and circulating tumor cells in blood; this diagnosis was not confirmed by histopathologic examination. Owing to clinical deterioration and the poor prognosis, the dog was euthanized and a necropsy was not performed. This is the first report of a canine mammary carcinoma with circulating tumor cells and secondary DIC.  相似文献
