Plasma ACTH and cortisol levels in the bovine fetuses over the period of 5 to 9 months of gestation and in the neonates immediately after birth and at 5 days old were studied. In the bovine fetuses, the plasma ACTH levels ranged from 60.8 +/- 17.8 to 71.3 +/- 19.7 pg/ml over the period of 5 to 7 months of gestation. It increased rapidly to 239.2 +/- 261.5 pg/ml at 8 months and to 406.9 +/- 409.4 pg/ml at 9 months of gestation. In the neonates immediately after birth it decreased to 182.3 +/- 110.7 pg/ml. The plasma cortisol levels ranged from 3.23 +/- 2.12 to 3.85 +/- 2.52 ng/ml over the period of 5 to 8 months of gestation and increased to 8.10 +/- 4.88 ng/ml at 9 months of gestation. It then increased rapidly to 88.35 +/- 42.78 ng/ml in the neonates immediately after birth. The correlation between plasma ACTH and cortisol levels in the fetuses of 5 to 7 months of gestation was not significant, but in the fetuses of 8 and 9 months of gestation and neonates were significant. However, especially immediately after birth, the increase in plasma cortisol occurred without a concomitant rise in plasma ACTH. According to these findings, it is suggested that the pituitary-adrenocortical axis in bovine fetus matures in the later stage of gestation and an increase of sensitivity in the fetal adrenal gland to ACTH may serve as a trigger for the onset of parturition.  相似文献

The feeding of ethylenediamine dihydriodide (EDDI) at the dose levels of 50 and 500 mg/animal/day and urea at the dose level of 45 g/animal/day did not affect duration of clinical signs, body weight gain, magnitude or duration of fever, serum concentration of glutamic oxalacetic transaminase, packed cell volume, and differential white blood cell counts in feeder cattle experimentally infected with infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus. However, coughing and abundance of nasal discharge were significantly greater in calves fed EDDI before and during primary IBR virus infection. Those calves fed 500 mg of EDDI/day coughed more, had greater nasal discharge, and exhibited greater lacrimation than did those given the smaller dose. These 3 clinical signs were considered to reflect both the expectorant action of EDDI and the pathogenic effects of IBR virus. In all calves, including controls, the coughing, nasal discharge, and lacrimation were most prominent during the period of peak infection (7 to 14 days after the calves were given intranasal inoculation) of the IBR virus. Total serum iodine concentration became maximal (mean of 1,400 ng/ml) in 8 calves after they had been fed the larger dose of EDDI for 2 weeks. This value was maximal (about 300 ng/ml) in another 8 calves after 3 weeks' feeding of the smaller dose (50 mg/day). When EDDI exposure was maintained at the dose level of 50 mg/day for 5 weeks longer, mean serum iodine values remained at about 275 ng/ml, and those of control calves averaged 140 ng/ml.  相似文献

Changes in interleukin (IL)-1beta, IL-6 and IL-8 in serum, and their mRNA expression on neutrophils from a 4.6-month old Holstein young calf with bovine leukocyte adhesion deficiency (BLAD) during the acute phase were evaluated. IL-1beta concentrations in the serum of the calf with BLAD at age 143-162 days ranged from 8.7 to 16.6 ng/ml, whereas the values were less than 2.7 ng/ml in control calves. Serum IL-6 (0.04 ng/ml) was only detected on the 1st day when the animal was diagnosed with the BLAD. IL-1beta and IL-8 mRNA expression on neutrophils from the affected calf appeared to be similar to those of controls. Serum cytokine levels and their mRNA expression on neutrophils from the calf with BLAD appeared to be little affected by the deficient expression of beta(2)-integrin on leukocytes, and are considered to be modulated by the inflammatory stimuli.  相似文献

A series of studies examined the binding characteristics and ontogeny of hepatic growth hormone binding sites in dairy bulls on d 2, 30, 180, and 365 of age. Binding of iodinated recombinant bovine growth hormone ([125I]rbGH) to liver membrane receptors was membrane protein-dependent. Receptors were considered growth hormone-specific, because physiological concentrations of bovine prolactin (bPRL) failed to displace [125I]rbGH from bovine hepatocyte membranes. Only 50% of [125I]rbGH was bound reversibly to hepatic microsomes. Addition of dithiothreitol (DTT) to the receptor-assay buffer increased the binding of [125I]rbGH to hepatic membranes in a time-dependent manner. Moderate concentrations of Ca++ and Mg++ in the receptor-assay buffer had no detectable effects on binding of [125I]rbGH to hepatic microsomes. In growing dairy bulls, specific binding of [125I]rbGH per milligram of membrane protein increased from 1.9 +/- 1.8% at d 2 to 14.1 +/- 1.8% at d 180 and then declined to 5.2 +/- 1.6% at d 365. Likewise, concentration of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I in serum was low during the 1st mo of age (d 2, 13.3 +/- 8.8 ng/ml; d 30, 9.7 +/- 8.8 ng/ml), but it became maximal at d 180 (151.0 +/- 8.8 ng/ml). Circulating concentrations of IGF-II increased linearly during the 1st yr of growth. Serum concentrations of GH, triiodothyronine, and thyroxine declined from 39.9 +/- 6.5, 2.7 +/- .2, and 75.4 +/- 4.6 ng/ml at d 2 to 16.5 +/- 6.5, 1.3 +/- .2, and 53.4 +/- 4.6 ng/ml at d 30, respectively, and remained low through 1 yr of age. Insulin concentration in serum did not change significantly with development. Results indicated that increasing concentrations of specific bGH receptors in the bovine liver may play a key role in regulating postnatal growth in cattle.  相似文献

This prospective longitudinal study examined the epidemiology and disease syndrome associated with bovine coronavirus (BCV) infections in a cohort of 8 conventional calves from 0 to 120 days of age, in two dairy herds in Ohio. The periods of respiratory shedding of BCV were determined by direct immunofluorescent (DIF) staining of nasal epithelial cells and ELISA of nasal swab supernatant fluids. The periods of fecal shedding of BCV were determined by ELISA and immunoelectron microscopy (IEM). The isotype-specific antibody titers to BCV in serum (at selected intervals between 0 and 120 days of age) and the post-suckling (24 to 48 h after birth) total immunoglobulin levels were examined by ELISA and zinc sulfate turbidity tests, respectively. Of the 8 calves studied, 4 had evidence of BCV respiratory (by DIF or ELISA) or enteric infections (by IEM or ELISA) in association with diarrhea or rhinitis, even though 7 of 8 calves showed increases in one or more serum antibody isotypes to BCV and 6 of 8 calves showed BCV respiratory or enteric antigen shedding by ELISA. Serological antibody titer increases occurred in 3 calves before 30 days of age and in 4 calves after 30 days of age; two of the latter calves had a second rise in serum antibody titers to BCV after the initial rise. A serological antibody titer increase was not observed in one calf. This suggests that BCV infections may be very common in a closed herd and may occur in older calves, although many may be subclinical and some may be recurrent. There were no statistically significant correlations between total serum immunoglobulin levels or BCV antibody isotype titers in serum (24-48 h after birth) and clinical disease or infection by BCV; however, calves with low levels of IgA BCV antibodies in serum (24-48 h after birth) had a significantly greater average number of days with diarrhea than those calves having high levels of IgA BCV-specific antibodies in serum.  相似文献

After examination of the clinical state of 128 new-born calves, blood was collected from their vena jugularis for the determination of blood actual pH value, concentration of lactic acid, pCO2, base excess, buffer base and standard acid bicarbonate. The course and difficulty of parturition exerted a significant influence on the vitality of the calves and on the studied parameters of acid-base state. In the normally born calves, compared with those after dystocia, the following values were obtained: pH 7.20 +/- 0.03 : 7.11 +/- 0.07, pCO2 = 8.4 +/- 0.9 : 10.0 +/- 1.1 kPa, base excess -2.30 +/- 2.10 : 5.80 +/- 4.60 mmol/l, buffer base 43.0 +/- 2.4 : 39.5 +/- 6.5 mmol/l, standard acid bicarbonate 22.3 +/- 1.8 : 19.6 +/- 4.1 mmol/l and lactic acid concentration 5.6 +/- 2.0 : 10.7 +/- 5.1 mmol/l. The differences were statistically significant (P less than 0.05) and statistically highly significant (P less than 0.01). The continual study of the blood actual pH value and lactic acid concentration in the calves in the first 24 hours of life showed that with the same trend of changes in calves after dystocia the initial values were less favourable and that their normalization lasted longer. Attention is drawn to the importance of dystocia for the rise of respiratory metabolic acidosis and its effect on the vitality of newborn calves, and/or on their survival. The discussion deals with the importance of immunoglobulin levels in calves in the first days after birth for their further development. The determination of antibody content in colostral serum from the first milking in 33 and 29 cows on two farms showed great drawbacks in quality. A satisfactory level of IgG was found only in 36.36% and 58.62% of the cows, and a satisfactory level of IgM only in 12.12% and 24.13% of the studied cows. The determination of immunoglobulin content in their calves two to three days from birth (33 + 33 animals) showed normoglobulinemia only in 24.24% and 15.15% of cases. In 33 and 29 cows on two farms the colostrum serum from the first milking had an average content of immunoglobulins of class G amounting to 27.99 +/- 20.25 mg/ml and 36.95 +/- 21.62 mg/ml, and class M amounting to 3.64 +/- 1.25 and 2.04 +/- 1.42 mg/ml. Three days from birth, their calves had an IgG content of 4.25 +/- 2.57 mg/ml and 3.99 +/- 1.86 mg/ml and an IgM content of 0.30 +/- 0.20 and 6.38 +/- 0.25 mg/ml.  相似文献

Sandwich ELISA were developed to quantitatively determine conglutinin (CG), mannan-binding protein (MBP), and serum amyloid-P component (SAP) in the sera of cattle. The ELISA system was found to have high repeatability for quantitation of these serum proteins at concentration as low as 5 ng/ml. From results obtained for 10 healthy cows aged 2 to 7 years, mean +/- SD serum concentrations were 56.5 +/- 14.4 micrograms of CG/ml, 2.37 +/- 0.87 micrograms of MBP/ml, and 11.14 +/- 3.92 micrograms of SAP/ml, respectively. Values in 6 healthy heifer calves aged 6 months were 3.45 +/- 1.22 micrograms/ml for CG, 1.71 +/- 0.96 micrograms/ml for MBP, and 5.45 +/- 2.75 micrograms/ml for SAP, respectively. Concentrations in 9 healthy bullocks aged 6 months were 1.83 +/- 0.66 micrograms/ml for CG, 1.04 +/- 0.63 micrograms/ml for MBP, and 4.9 +/- 1.13 micrograms/ml for SAP, respectively.  相似文献

Endocrine patterns were compared in 2 strains of Japanese black cattle with growth retardation; MHO- and HSK-paternal strains (MHO and HSK cattle, respectively). MHO cattle (n=8) displayed lower serum concentrations of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and cortisol (31.1+/-20.7 ng/ml, 73.9+/-51.9 ng/dl, and 2.9+/-2.9 microg/dl, 1.3+/-0.7 microg/dl, respectively) than those in both HSK cattle (n=5) (64.9+/-47.6 ng/ml, 97.8+/-40.7 ng/dl, 4.1+/-2.1 microg/dl and 1.8+/-1.1 microg/dl, respectively), and the controls (n=6) (314.7+/-197.2 ng/ml, 140.2+/-21.3 ng/dl, 5.8+/-1.7 microg/dl, and 3.0+/-1.4 microg/dl, respectively). The area under the concentration curve of growth hormone (GH-AUC 0-600 min) in MHO cattle (22210+/-18951 ng.min/ml) tended to be greater than those in HSK (7887+/-6340 ng.min/ml) and the controls (2811+/-1275 ng.min/ml). MHO cattle showed a high GH-AUC0-600 min in contrast to a low serum IGF-1 concentration, as well as lower serum T3, T4, and cortisol concentrations. HSK cattle exhibited the same secretory patterns, but much more moderately. Growth retardation in Japanese black cattle exhibits some variations based on pedigree.  相似文献

In a group of 60 Belgian White Blue calves less than 8 months old still housed in barns, a bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) outbreak was revealed on the basis of a direct diagnosis (immunofluorescence and virus isolation) performed on the lungs of dead animals, and the kinetics of BRSV neutralizing antibodies. Clinical signs, macroscopical and microscopical pulmonary lesions were also compatible with a BRSV infection. This outbreak is peculiar because the 35 oldest calves (204 +/- 29 days old) had been vaccinated 3-4 months before with an inactivated BRSV vaccine and 30% of these animals had died of respiratory distress. While they experienced a mild respiratory symptomatology, no death was recorded among the 25 youngest calves (69 +/- 29 days old) which had been left unvaccinated. Another peculiarity was found at the histological level where a massive infiltration of eosinophils was demonstrated in the pulmonary tissues of the dead animals. Together these data parallel the dramatic story described 30 years ago in children previously vaccinated with a formalin-inactivated human RSV (HRSV) vaccine upon a natural HRSV challenge. This illustrates that an immunopathological phenomenon also takes place after BRSV vaccination in cattle.  相似文献

Growth hormone secretion was evaluated in cattle. Clinically healthy bovine growth hormone (bGH) concentrations were 10.7 +/- 1.6 ng/ml in Holstein and 7.8 +/- 3.9 ng/ml in Japanese black cattle. The bGH concentration alternated at three-hour intervals, and tended to be higher at midnight and lower in the morning and before feeding. Insulin tolerance test (ITT) at an insulin dosage of 0.25 U/kg showed a significant increase of bGH concentration to 331 +/- 153% at 60 to 90 min after injection. In ITT applied to five under-growth calves of Japanese black cattle, the basal bGH concentrations were lower and peak values after insulin injection were shown to be significantly low. The ITT is useful for the clinical examination of bGH secretion in cattle.  相似文献

Beef cows were placed on protein-deficient and/or energy deficient rations for the last 150 days of pregnancy. After birth their calves were placed on 1 or 21 C environmental chambers for 3 days, and sera were collected for determination of complement (C) levels. At birth, the mean complement hemolytic (CH50) titer of all calves was 46.0 +/- 1.7 units, but the titer rapidly dropped (P < 0.01) to 31.6 +/- 1.2 by 12 hours after birth. Levels of C activity then began to rise and reached a mean titer of 76.3 +/- 3.0 by 3 days of age. A quadratic curve of predicted CH50 values was constructed from the data. Differences between principal and control groups of calves were not detected. These results suggest that maternal protein-calorie deprivation and limited cold stresses have little effect on levels of C activity in the bovine neonate. Possible explanations for the decrease in CH50 levels after birth are discussed.  相似文献

Plasma insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) concentrations were monitored in Holstein females through different periods of their growth, lactation and after acute or chronic growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF) administration. Plasma samples were radioimmunoassayed using a human IGF-I antibody after a 24 hr incubation in a HCl(.1N)-glycine(.2M) buffer (pH 2). In a first study, IGF-I concentrations were measured in Holstein females of different ages and(or) stages of lactation (n = 6 per group). The IGF-I concentrations in newborn calves (102.0 +/- 11.3 ng/ml) markedly decreased (P less than .01) in 1 mo old animals (50.2 +/- 7.1 ng/ml), then increased (P less than .01) to 137.0 +/- 5.1 and 137.4 +/- 11.0 ng/ml in 6 and 10 mo old heifers, respectively. In dairy cows, IGF-I concentrations were low 24 hr post-partum (44.7 +/- 7.6 ng/ml) and then increased (P less than .05) to remain stable throughout lactation (91.3 +/- 4.9, 92.8 +/- 12.9, 96.1 +/- 7.6, 90.7 +/- 8.8 ng/ml at 2, 3, 6 and 9 mo of lactation, respectively). There was a further increase (P less than .05) to 113.7 +/- 3.1 ng/ml during the dry period. In a second trial, blood samples were collected from lactating dairy cows every 2 hr for 24 hr following a sc injection of saline (n = 4) or human (h) GRF (1-29)NH2 (10 micrograms/kg BW, n = 4). The IGF-I peak concentration was reached on average 10 hr after the GRF injection and was higher (P less than .01) in treated cows than in control cows (135.4 vs 86.9 +/- 16.2 ng/ml). In the last trial, daily sc injections of 10 micrograms of hGRF(1-29)NH2 per kg BW to dairy cows (252 days of lactation) for 57 days, which increased milk production by 14% (2 kg/day), also increased (P less than .01) IGF-I concentration: 127.1 +/- 5.3 and 118.0 +/- 1.6 vs 90.7 +/- 4.7 and 96.0 +/- 5.0 ng/ml on days 29 and 57 of treatment for treated (n = 9) and control (n = 8) cows, respectively. Thus, the IGF-I concentration in dairy cattle varies with age and stage of lactation, and is increased by GRF administration in lactating dairy cows.  相似文献

Singer Strain bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) modified live-virus vaccine, produced in a continuous bovine cell line using equine serum in the growth medium, evoked a high level of serum antibodies and protected against virulent challenge in vaccinated calves. Transmission of vaccinal virus from vaccinated cattle to susceptible controls did not occur when vaccinated and nonvaccinated cattle were kept in constant contact for 23 days. Postvaccinal reactions to the viral vaccine were not observed in vaccinated cattle from 10 feedlots or in cattle vaccinated with multiple doses of the experimental vaccine.  相似文献

Three groups of beef cow and calf pairs were studied to determine plasma vitamin E and blood selenium (Se) concentrations of calves at 1 month old. Group 1 was managed on irrigated pasture and calves received no Se/vitamin E injections at birth. Group 2 was managed on irrigated pasture, and the calves were injected with Se/vitamin E at birth. Group 3 was managed on dry foothill grasslands, and these cows were supplemented with 56.3 mg vitamin E and 3 mg Se daily, and the calves received a Se/vitamin E injection at birth. The plasma concentration of vitamin E in group 1 and 2 cows (9.5 +/- 1.24 and 8.43 +/- 1.0 microg/ml, respectively) was significantly higher than that of the group 3 cows (2.28 +/- 0.42 microg/ml; P < 0.05). The blood Se concentrations in group 3 cows (169 +/- 37 ng/ml) were significantly higher than those in group 1 and 2 cows (36.4 +/- 15.9 and 31.1 +/- 12.5 ng/ml, respectively; P < 0.05). Calf Se was highly correlated to cow Se (r = 0.965), and calf vitamin E was moderately correlated to cow vitamin E (r = 0.605). Calf vitamin E concentrations were consistently lower than cow vitamin E concentrations, and many values would be considered deficient.  相似文献

Twenty-one healthy Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse foals were studied from birth until 1 year of age. Foals had access to an iron-supplemented creep feed before weaning and were fed an iron-supplemented concentrate as part of their diet after weaning at 4 months of age. Initial blood samples were taken before foals were allowed to nurse. Serum iron concentration, total iron-binding capacity, and PCV decreased during the foal's first 24 hours of life. Serum iron concentration decreased rapidly from 446 +/- 16 micrograms/dl (mean +/- SE) at birth to 105 +/- 11 micrograms/dl at 3 days of age. Serum ferritin concentration increased from a mean of 85 +/- 8 ng/ml at birth to 159 +/- 11 ng/ml at 1 day of age. Thereafter, ferritin concentration decreased gradually to a minimum of 61 +/- 6 ng/ml at 3 weeks of age, and then at 6 months increased to values similar to those from reference adult horses. The ferritin concentration in colostrum at birth was 354 +/- 42 ng/ml, compared with 25 +/- 2 ng/ml in milk 1 day later. The decrease and then increase in serum ferritin concentration occurred concomitantly with opposite changes in serum total iron-binding capacity. The mean PCV decreased gradually to a minimum at 3 months of age. This decrease was associated with an increasing number of microcytes, as determined with a cell-size distribution analyzer.  相似文献

The ability of lymphocytes from newborn calves to undergo blastogenic responses to the mitogens Concanavalin A (Con A), phytohemagglutinin (PHA), or Pokeweed Mitogen (PWM), and immunomodulation of these responses by neonatal calf serum was assessed as a function of age. Lymphocytes were obtained from thymus, spleen, and mesenteric lymph nodes of 1-, 2- to 3-, 5- to 7-, and 9- to 10-d-old calves, aliquoted and incubated (+/- mitogens) in sera from 1-, 2-, 3-, or 7- to 10-d-old calves. Lymph-node lymphocytes responded least when cultured in sera from 1-d-old calves, regardless of mitogen or age of cell donor; the response increased as age of serum donor increased (P less than .05). Splenic lymphocytes responded similarly (P less than .005). However, when cultured in sera from older calves, splenic lymphocytes from older calves responded greater to PWM than did those from younger calves. Thymic lymphocytes responded minimally to PWM and PHA. Their response to Con A increased (P less than .005) with age of serum donor calf, but the effect was greatest on lymphocytes from 5- to 7-d-old calves. Mixing experiments with varying ratios of 1-d-old calf serum: 10-d-old calf serum suggested that serum from 1-d-old calves contained suppressive activity. Serum cortisol level (measured by radioimmunoassay) was 30 +/- 4.6 ng/ml in calves at 6 h of age and declined to 5.5 +/- 1.1 ng/ml by 10 d. Charcoal treatment to remove steroids did not enhance blastogenesis. Addition of cortisol (50 ng/ml) to charcoal-treated sera resulted in inhibition of response to PHA, but no change in response to Con A or PWM. Further investigation is indicated to characterize this immunosuppressive activity and to establish its relationship to disease susceptibility.  相似文献

An epizootic characterized by birth of calves severly ataxic and blind were encountered in 3 herds 7–8 months after outbreaks of bovine virus diarrhoea. Serological and virological investigations indicated introduction of bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) into previously virus-free herds, followed by transplacental virus infection of the fetuses of cows in the first trimester. Clinical, pathological, serological, and microbiological examinations were performed on 10 calves. Pathological findings included microcephaly and cerebellar hypoplasia, ocular malformations, and thymic hypoplasia. BVDV was isolated from tissue and blood of 7 calves, and 4 calves, 1 of which had not received colostrum, had virus-specific neutralizing antibodies. This is the first report on natural occurrence of congenital bovine infection with BVDV among Danish cattle herds resulting in abortion and birth of calves with severe debilitating congenital anomalies. It draws attention to the importance of this virus for bovines of all age groups.  相似文献

Polyclonal bovine IgM-rheumatoid factors (IgM-RFs) were examined in sera of cattle immunized against babesiosis. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used enabling rapid screening of serum samples. Results obtained indicate a rise of serum IgM-RF levels with age in healthy bovines. However when animals of similar age and pertaining to the same herd were examined, levels of serum IgM-RF exhibited a wide distribution range. Mean values in 60 sera of 2 yrs old clinically healthy heifers originating from a single herd were of 452.60 +/- 201.26 e.u. at 1 in 1,000 serum dilution and of 202.37 +/- 137.86 e.u. at 1 in 4,000 serum dilution. In a herd where repeated vaccination of dams against babesiosis was carried out 3 to 6 weeks before delivery either with live Babesia bovis parasites or soluble antigens of in vitro grown organisms, no significant differences in mean IgM-RF values were found between revaccinated animals and a control group. Nor did the mean values of serum IgM-RF of calves born to the respective groups of dams exhibit significant differences. It thus appears that immunization of healthy cattle against this parasite does not affect mean serum IgM-RF levels.  相似文献

Neutralising serum antibodies against bovine virus diarrhoea virus (BVDV) were monitored for three years in 35 cattle that were infected with the virus as calves; 24 of the calves were inoculated intramuscularly or intranasally, and 11 contracted the infection naturally. All the experimentally infected calves seroconverted within 14 to 28 days after inoculation, and all the animals still had high serum levels of antibodies to BVDV three years after infection. Determinations of antibody levels in milk and blood samples excluded the possibility that the calves had been reinfected with BVDV during the study.  相似文献

The effect of suckling on depletion of hypothalamic LHRH from the median eminence (ME) following ovariectomy (OVX) was determined in cattle. Multiparous, postpartum Holstein cows were assigned randomly to three groups: intact, nonsuckled (INT, n = 4); ovariectomized (3 to 5 d after parturition), nonsuckled (OVX, n = 4); and ovariectomized (3 to 5 d after parturition) and suckled by three calves (OVX-S, n = 5). Blood samples were collected at three periods (1 to 7 d before parturition and 3 to 5 d and 31 to 37 d after parturition) to determine plasma LH concentration. At 31 to 37 d after parturition, all cows were slaughtered and each ME was collected and mid-sagitally sectioned. The left half of each ME was used to determine content and concentration of LHRH. Concentrations of LH and LHRH were determined by RIA. Plasma LH concentration was similar among the three groups at 1 to 7 d before parturition and 3 to 5 d after parturition; however, at 31 to 37 d after parturition, OVX cows had a greater (P less than .05) concentration of LH (2.25 +/- .64 ng/ml) than either INT (.47 +/- .10 ng/ml) or OVX-S (.92 +/- .14 ng/ml) cows. Content of LHRH in the ME of INT (80.12 +/- 15.0 ng) and OVX-S 109.8 +/- 16.4 ng) cows was similar but was greater (P less than .05) than that in OVX cows (48.95 +/- 5.9 ng).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
