Various isomeric mixtures of pyrethroids were examined in topical application tests against houseflies, Musca domestica. On the basis of the activities of the separate isomers of 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (±)-cis,trans-chrysanthemate, it was shown that when combined in pairs to give the (±)-trans or (±)-cis or (+)-cis,trans mixtures the observed mortalities did not differ from those expected by simple additive action calculated by the harmonic mean. In contrast the (±)-cis,trans mixture showed considerable antagonism with a mortality only 60% of that expected. Similar evaluations using the separate and combined isomers of bioallethrin [(R,S)-3-allyl-2-methyl-4-oxocyclopent-2-enyl (allethronyl) ( + )-trans-[(1R,3R)-chrysanthemate] and the corresponding (+)-cis-(1R,3S)-chrysanthemate indicate antagonism calculated to be correlated with the content of the (R)-isomer of the alcoholic moiety. Hence the activity of the most active isomer of the “allethrin” series, (S)-3-allyl-2-methyl-4-oxocyclopent-2-enyl ( + )-trans-(1R,3R)-chrysanthemate, (S)-bioallethrin, is not fully realised unless it is present in pure form and a substantial part of the value of bioresmethrin (5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl ( + )-trans-chrysanthemate] as a killing agent is lost when the racemic form is used. In racemic mixtures there is mutual antagonism between pairs of isomers so that considerable masking of activity occurs.  相似文献

In an effort to control the damage caused by the beetleMaladera matrida Argaman (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) to sweet potatoes,Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam., experiments comparing heptachlor with other insecticides were conducted in the Besor region in the southern part of Israel in 1987. Taking the percentage of clean tubers at the final harvest as the criterion of insecticidal efficacy, the best results were achieved with heptachlor (97.3% clean tubers) and with the synthetic pyrethroid Talstar (biphenthrin) (91.1% clean tubers), while the percentage of clean tubers obtained in two untreated control plots was 52.5% and 65.9%. The effect of heptachlor and Talstar was not significantly different from that of Oftanol (isofenphos) plus Becis (decamethrin), but was significantly better than that of Dizictol (diazinon), Becis, Dizictol plus Becis, Oftanol, and the untreated controls. The average tuber weights from the treatments with heptachlor, Talstar and Becis were significantly higher than those of the untreated control plots and from the treatments with Dizictol, Oftanol, and Oftanol plus Becis.  相似文献

The knockdown and contact killing actions of various pyrethroids were compared using Blattella germanica and Periplaneta americana. A wide range of knockdown activity was found; 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (1R)-cis-3-(dihydro-2-oxo-3-thienylidenemethyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate (RU 15525) acted fastest, more rapidly than pyrethrins, against B. germanica as well as having a low LD50 value. Topical application and direct spray tests showed that (S)-α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (1R)-cir-3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate (NRDC 161) was more active as a killing agent, by an order of magnitude, than cismethrin, the next most active compound, and also had considerable knockdown activity. Piperonyl butoxide generally had little synergist effect. Female P. americana were over three times more tolerant than males to a range of insecticides applied topically. Residual knockdown action in the WHO resistance test was observed to provide baseline data. There was little overlap in speed of action between pyrethroids and other insecticides among the compounds tested.  相似文献

The effect of diflubenzuron as a residue on glass or applied topically to Spodoptera littoralis larvae was investigated. Diflubenzuron was active as a residue on glass against 100 and 200 mg larvae; the toxicity of residues was identical whether a dispersable formulation or a wettable powder or the technical substance were used. By topical application, diflubenzuron had an ED50 for cumulative percentage mortality up to the adult stage of 004 and 0066 μg/larva for 100 and 200mg larvae respectively. Neither the site of the topical application nor whether the larvae were kept singly or in groups of ten after the treatment had an influence on toxicity. The data indicate that diflubenzuron has contact toxicity to at least one insect species as well as the known stomach poison action.  相似文献

Comparisons with standard susceptible insects showed that a strain of Tribolium castaneum, with a specific resistance to malathion and its carboxylic ester analogues, had no cross-resistance to topical applications of natural pyrethrins. Another strain of T. castaneum, showing resistance to many organophosphorus (OP) insecticides, was cross-resistant to pyrethrins ( × 34) and eight synthetic pyrethroids also applied topically; least cross-resistance occurred with resmethrin ( × 2.2), bioresmethrin ( × 3.3) and phenothrin ( × 4.0). Generally larger resistance factors were recorded with formulations synergised by piperonyl butoxide (PB). The greatest cross-resistance encountered was with unsynergised tetramethrin ( × 338). Apart from tetramethrin, factors of synergism did not exceed 5.7 with either the susceptible or multi-OP resistant strains. PB antagonised six of the nine pyrethroids against the multi-OP resistant strain. Antagonism also occurred with two of these six, permethrin (cis: trans ratio 1:3) and 5-prop-2-ynylfurfuryl ( 1RS)-cis,trans-chrysanthemate (‘Prothrin’), against the susceptible strain. Considering only formulations without the synergist, the most effective compounds against the susceptible strain, relative to pyrethrins, were bioresmethrin (2.7) and permethrin (2.4). Similarly with the multi-OP resistant strain the most effective compounds were bioresmethrin (28), resmethrin (14) and permethrin (6.6). Thus the LD50 (the dose required to kill 50% of the test species) for bioresmethrin against the resistant strain (0.14 μg) only slightly exceeded the LD50 for pyrethrins against the susceptible strain (0.12 μg).  相似文献

Leucopholis coneophora Burmeister is a subterranean pest associated with coconut based cropping systems in south India. Feeding damage causes yellowing of fronds and yield reduction. To develop appropriate IPM strategy a basic knowledge on insect behaviour is essential. Four years studies indicated that, adult emergence of L. coneophora was commenced with summer shower in April in Kerala. Delay in summer shower delayed the emergence. After a pause in May, the emergence resumed with the setting of south west monsoon in June. The beetles did not emerge during dry spells in between the rainy days, when the soil temperature (at 10 cm depth) was ≥34.5 °C. Emergence of the beetles started at an illuminance of 124.37?±?75.5 l in evening and remained active till 2?±?0.4 l with a maximum swarming at 32.6?±?15.1 l. Female emergence and mating occurred at 12.04?±?8.1 l. Female based sex pheromone mediated communication is evident. Strong competition among the males for mating with emerging female, which was evident by a wider operational sex ratio in the initial period (1:10.11) that narrowed down to 1:4.33 in later days. The beetles neither congregate on any host plant nor exhibit phototaxis. Number of beetles entrapped in light traps varied from 1.5–16.5% and hand picking is highly significant over light trapping. Hence hand picking of beetles daily in the evening for 2 weeks commencing from the onset of south west monsoon in Kerala, in Indian subcontinent is suggested as a tool in IPM.  相似文献

The efficacy of insecticide mixtures of permethrin (pyrethroid) and propoxur (carbamate) was tested by larval bioassays on two strains of Culex quinquefasciatus (Say), one resistant to pyrethroids and the other resistant to carbamates. The method consisted in combining one insecticide at the highest concentration causing no mortality (LC0) with increasing concentrations of the second one. The concentration-mortality regression lines were determined for permethrin and propoxur alone and in combination, and synergism ratios (SR) were calculated in order to determine the magnitude of an increase or decrease in efficacy with use of the mixtures. With the pyrethroid-resistant strain (BK-PER), the results showed that propoxur at LC0 significantly enhanced the insecticidal activity of permethrin (SR50 = 1.54), especially on the upper range of the concentration-mortality regression. Conversely, when permethrin at LC0 was tested with propoxur against the carbamate resistant strain (R-LAB), an antagonistic effect was observed (SR50 = 0.67). With the BK-PER strain, an increased oxidative detoxification (MFO) appeared to be the main mechanism responsible for the synergistic interaction. Nevertheless, antagonism in the R-LAB strain is probably due to a physiological perturbation implying different target sites for pyrethroid (ie sodium channel) and carbamate insecticides [ie acetylcholinesterase (EC 3.3.3.7) and choline acetyltransferase (EC 2.3.1.6)].  相似文献

The toxicity of a number of topically applied pyrethroids has been tested against adult male desert locusts, Schistocerca gregaria: the most potent proved to be 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (+)-trans-chrysanthemate (bioresmethrin) with a weighted mean LD50 of 4.0 μg/g. The remaining compounds may be ranked in order of toxicity as follows: 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl (±)-cis-trans-chrysanthemate (resmethrin) > 4-allyl-2,6-dimethyl-benzyl(+)-trans-chrysanthemate > 4-allylbenzyl (+)-trans-chrysanthemate > 2,4,6-trimethylbenzyl (+)-cis-trans-chrysanthemate > 2,3,4-trimethylbenzyl (+)-cis-trans-chrysanthemate > 2,4-dimethylbenzyl (±)-cis-trans-chrysanthemate; 2-methylbenzyl (±)-cis-trans-chrysanthemate. A small factor of synergism (4.2) was obtained with bioresmethrin following pre-treatment with sesamex, but with resmethrin the synergistic ratio (1.6) was of little practical significance.  相似文献

The effectiveness of two synthetic pyrethroids, cypermethrin and fenvalerate, and of methomyl applied to cabbage plants was tested against the cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (L.), and its parasitoid, Diaeretiella rapae (M'Intosh). Dosage rates chosen were equivalent to the manufacturer's maximum and minimum recommendations. Methomyl was considerably more toxic to B. brassicae adults than the two synthetic pyrethroids used. Fenvalerate, at the lowest rate used (71 g ha?1), showed satisfactory effectiveness in reducing aphid adult population on treated plants by c. 77% below that of the control. All insecticides and rates used significantly reduced the emergence of parasitoid adult D. rapae from mummified aphids compared to the control. Fenvalerate clearly had less impact on emergence than cypermethrin or methomyl at any dosage used, while methomyl has appeared to be the most toxic compound in this respect. Longevity of parasitoid adults was highly affected by insecticide application, particularly those adults emerging from mummified aphids exposed to methomyl or cypermethrin. However, only a slight difference in longevity was seen at the lower rate of 71 g ha?1 of fenvalerate. At the lowest dosage rates used, methomyl and cypermethrin reduced the F1-progeny of adult parasitoid females by 70.5% and 58.3%, respectively, of the control, whereas fenvalerate reduced the progeny by only 36.4%.  相似文献

Essential oils from 23 species of plants comprising 14 genera and 4 plant families were obtained by Clevenger-type water distillation. The major compounds in these essential oils were identified with GC-MS and their insecticidal activity against adult turnip aphids, Lipaphis pseudobrassicae (Davis), tested with dosage-mortality bioassays. We examined mortality only for viviparous adults because sizeable aphid populations on crucifer (Brassicaceae) hosts are largely produced by these wingless, parthenogenic females. Twenty-two of the oils were directly applied to aphid females in randomized blocks at concentrations of 0.0, 1.0, 2.5, 5.0 and 10.0 mg ml(-1). Essential oils mixed with a non-toxic emulsifying agent, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), more easily penetrated the waxy insect cuticle. Probit analysis and LC(50) at three different exposures showed aphids were quickly incapacitated and killed by aliphatic aldehydes, phenols and monocyclic terpenes contained in Bifora and Satureja oils and at applied concentrations as low as 0.3 to 1.0 mg ml(-1). Only enough Pimpinella isaurica oil and its three phenylpropanoid fractions were available for testing at a single concentration of 10 mg ml(-1). We could not spare any additional P. isaurica oil for testing at other concentrations. Phenylpropanoids isolated from P. isaurica oil when recombined or left naturally blended in the oil were highly bioactive against L. pseudobrassicae at 10 mg ml(-1).  相似文献

Ethofenprox (MTI-500), MTI-800, and related compounds, which have a m-phenoxybenzyl moiety but lack ester bonding, were compared with DDT-type compounds and pyrethroid insecticides for their lethal and convulsive activities toward American cockroaches. The most potent among them ranked between phenothrin and cyphenothrin. Neurophysiological effects were also examined by extra- and intracellular recording and voltage clamp techniques. Some derivatives induced repetitive discharges in the excised central nerve cord of the American cockroach. The after-potential recorded intracellularly from the crayfish giant axon was markedly increased by some compounds. Voltage clamp experiments with the crayfish giant axon showed that ethofenprox decreased the peak sodium current and induced a large residual current during a step depolarization. It also induced a large and prolonged tail current after a step repolarization of the membrane. The effects of the test compounds on the action potential and the sodium current were similar to those of DDT-type compounds and the pyrethroids such as allethrin and phenothrin. A shift of sodium channel population from normal to modified was thought to result in modifications of the sodium current which, in turn, cause the increase in after-potential and the induction of repetitive discharges.  相似文献

No proof was found that Collembola prefer white clover to grass in sandy soils of leys and grasslands. The same springtail species can be found on both. However, in greenhouses they definitely preferred the white clover. Here,Folsomia quadrioculata especially, and during the summer monthsSminthurinus trinotatus, were found. In winter,Onychiurus bicampatus or a related species was also identified.Folsomia quadrioculata is able to feed on white clover roots. In doing so, invasion spots are prepared for weakly parasitic soil fungi. Addition of these fungi to the soil, however, did not result in an infestation of the roots followed by death and disappearance of the white clover, forFolsomia then preferred to feed on the fungi rather than on the roots.  相似文献

Abstract

The tiger mosquito is a key vector of several human diseases and is considered a public health concern worldwide. The implementation of strategies aimed at maximizing mosquito control without affecting non-target insect groups is of major importance. In a field trial, we tested the efficiency of a natural pyrethrum-based vs. a synthetic pyrethroid-based insecticide in reducing tiger mosquito population and how they affect the diversity of non-target flower-visiting insects in green urban areas. Only the pyrethroid insecticide was effective in reducing mosquito abundance, although its effects disappeared nine days after application. The two adulticides did not significantly affect the diversity of flower-visiting insects, probably because of their large body size and the difference in flying and foraging activity. To effectively control mosquito populations while preventing intoxication of non-target flower-visiting insects, adulticide applications should be applied early in the morning and only on bushes and trees. Results from our small-scale applications cannot be extrapolate when larger areas are treated.  相似文献

A simple laboratory technique for determining the activity of two pyrethroids (5-benzyl-3-furyImethyl DL-cis, trans-chrysanthemate and 5-benzyl-3-furylmethyl D-trans-chrysanthemate) against blackfly larvae (Simulium ornatum) is described. The results showed that the pyrethroids alone or with piperonyl butpxide were of similar activity to Abate (O,O,O',O'-tetramethyl O,O'-thiodi-p-phenylene phosphor-othioate) and Dursban (O,O-diethyl O-3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridylphosphorothioate), insecticides of known activity against blackfly larvae. However, the pyrethroids cause rapid larval detachment in running water, and may be of value in controlling these insects when used in conjunction with another insecticide.  相似文献
