‘Dakota Jewel’ is a medium- to late-maturing potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cultivar; however, tuber maturity is early. Tubers are smooth, round to oblong in shape, with bright red skin and white flesh. Dakota Jewel is suitable for the fresh tablestock market, both directly from the field and following storage. Yield potential is medium, with total yield, U.S. No. 1s and percentage U.S. No. 1s of Dakota Jewel equal to those of Red Norland; size distribution is similar. Dakota Jewel sizes early, retains its color in storage, and has strong dormancy. It is susceptible to hollow heart. A mean specific gravity of 1.077 across non-irrigated and irrigated sites in North Dakota is much higher than Red Norland and Red Pontiac, standard red tablestock cultivars. Sensory evaluation scores of baked, boiled, and microwaved tubers are similar to Red Norland and Red Pontiac. Dakota Jewel was released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station on 26 March 2004.  相似文献

NorDonna is a mid-season, red-skinned, white-fleshed cultivar that yields a large percentage of U.S. No. 1 tubers in diverse growing areas under both dryland and irrigated conditions. It tends to have a darker red skin and a lower incidence of hollow heart when compared to other red cultivars. Intended for tablestock use, NorDonna has baking, boiling, and microwaving properties comparable to Red Pontiac or Red Norland. The North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station released NorDonna on April 28, 1995.  相似文献

Red Companion is a medium-early maturing variety with round tubers, stable red skin, and white flesh. Its intended use is as a tablestock variety. Red Companion has consistently outyielded Dark Red Norland in state and regional trials. The vines are more vigorous and mature 10 days later than those of Dark Red Norland. Red Companion has a higher specific gravity and longer tuber dormancy than does Dark Red Norland. The sloughing of Red Companion potatoes after boiling is less than for Dark Red Norland or Red Pontiac. Less shatter bruise was found when handled in cold storage. Red Companion is less susceptible to soft rot (Erwinia carotovora) and corky ring spot (Tobacco Rattle Virus) than Dark Red Norland and has a medium resistance to early blight (Alternaria solani).  相似文献

Comparison of periderm color and anthocyanins of four red potato varieties   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The color, anthocyanin content per given surface area, and phenolics content of tuber periderm of four different varieties of red potatoes were compared. Three of the varieties, Norland, Red Norland, and Dark Red Norland, are members of a color sport family. Freshly harvested ‘Norland’ differed significantly in color, but not anthocyanin content per given surface area, from its sports. ‘Red Norland’ tubers were lighter in color than those of ‘Dark Red Norland’. In general, storage resulted in darkening of tubers and, except for the fourth variety, MN17922, a decrease in anthocyanin content per given surface area. Tubers from green-killed ‘Red Norland’ plants were more purplish-red than those from vine-killed plants. Stored tubers had greater periderm total phenolics content than freshly harvested tubers. The increase in periderm phenolics and decrease in anthocyanin content per given surface area may lead to darkening of tubers with storage. Cell walls connecting periderm to cortex tissue of ‘MN17922’ tubers were thinner than those in ‘Norland’ tubers, which may explain why it is realtively easy to separate the periderm of ‘MN17922’ from its cortex.  相似文献

Red Cloud is a midseason potato comparable in maturity to Red LaSoda and later than Red Norland. It is characterized by a thick, dark red skin and white flesh. The red skin coloring holds well in storage, longer than either Red LaSoda or Dark Red Norland. Red Cloud produced above average yields in trials conducted in Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, and Texas, and in the 14 participating States and Provinces of the North Central Regional Potato (NCR) Trial in 1982. Yields of Red Cloud were higher than Dark Red Norland and lower than Red LaSoda in NE (1989–1991), similar to Red Norland in NE and CO (1977–1982) and to Red LaSoda and Dark Red LaSoda in AZ (1978–1982), and similar to Dark Red Norland and lower than Red LaSoda in TX (1982). Red Cloud tends to have more grade outs due to bulging eyes than the above standards. The specific gravity has been consistently greater than standard and other experimental red cultivars. Red Cloud had fewer tubers with hollow heart or vascular discoloration, and fewer tubers with any internal or external defects than Red Norland and Red Pontiac. It has demonstrated heat tolerance in Arizona. The white flesh has a mealy texture. The primary market for Red Cloud is a fresh table potato for boiling, mashing and baking.  相似文献

Mazama, an early maturing red-skinned cultivar for fresh market use, was jointly released in 2000 by the Agricultural Experiment Stations of Oregon, North Dakota, California, Idaho, and Washington. Mazama was tested in irrigated trials in Oregon from 1990 to 2000 and in the Western Regional Trial in 1994, 1995, and 1997. Mazama produces lower total yields than Dark Red Norland and Red LaSoda, but similar marketable yields with a high percentage of small, high-value tubers and significantly fewer culls. In 22 location-years of replicated Oregon and California trials, Mazama produced 40% and 26% higher marketable yields of U.S. #1s under 280 g than Red LaSoda and Dark Red Norland, respectively. In three years of replicated trials in six western states, Mazama produced 115% and 102% of marketable yields of U.S. #1s under 280 g compared with Red LaSoda and Dark Red Norland, respectively. Mazama tubers are smooth skinned and shallow eyed. Mazama’s bright red color does not fade in storage. Mazama is less susceptible to potato virus Y than Dark Red Norland or Red LaSoda.  相似文献

Winema, an early maturing, red-skinned cultivar for fresh market use, was jointly released in 2000 by the Agricultural Experiment Stations of Oregon, North Dakota, California, Idaho, and Washington. Winema was evaluated in irrigated trials in Oregon and California from 1990 to 2000 and in the Western Regional Trial in 1995,1997, and 1998. Winema has produced lower total yields than Dark Red Norland and Red LaSoda at most locations, but similar or higher marketable yields and significantly fewer culls. In 20 location-years of replicated Oregon and California trials, Winema produced 108% and 99% of marketable yields of tubers under 280 g compared with Red LaSoda and Dark Red Norland, respectively. Similarly, in 23 location-years of The Western Regional Trial in 6 western states, Winema produced 109% and 92% of marketable yields of tubers under 280 g compared with Red LaSoda and Dark Red Norland, respectively. Winema tubers are smooth-skinned with shallow eyes. Winema’s bright red color does not fade appreciably in storage. Winema is susceptible to potato virus Y (PVY). Foliar symptoms of PVY are difficult to detect visually.  相似文献

Heat therapy and meristem tip propagation were used to develop two or three virus-free clones of 10 cultivars from the following sources: Epicure from British Columbia and Scotland; Katahdin, Kennebec, Keswick, Red Pontiac and Sebago from British Columbia and New Brunswick; Norchip from Alberta, Quebec and Washington; Norland from Alberta, British Columbia and North Dakota; Red La Soda from British Columbia, Nebraska and North Dakota; and White Rose from British Columbia and North Dakota. Tests prior to treatment showed that all but one of the stocks were infected with potato virus X and/or potato virus S but in only five of the ten cultivars were all clones infected with the same virus or viruses. Field trials with the virus-free clones, which extended over four years, showed that one of the Norchip clones produced fewer tubers per plant than two other clones in three years of the four years, but no consistent differences in yield or specific gravity of tubers were found among the clones of any of the 10 cultivars.  相似文献

Modoc is an early maturing, red-skinned, whitefleshed potato cultivar for fresh market use. The Agricultural Experiment Stations of Oregon, North Dakota, California, Idaho, and Washington jointly released Modoc in 2003. Modoc was derived from a 1989 cross of ND1196-2R and ND2225-1R performed at North Dakota State University. Modoc retains bright skin color in storage and is suited for marketing directly from the field or storage. It produces slightly lower total yield than Red LaSoda or Dark Red Norland, but higher marketable yield and more desirable tuber size and shape. Modoc tubers seldom exhibit growth cracks, secondary growth, hollow heart or other external or internal defects. Dry matter content of Modoc tubers is similar to Dark Red Norland and Red LaSoda (18.9% compared to 18.8% and 17.7%, respectively). Culinary quality of Modoc was rated equal to Dark Red Norland and Red LaSoda for boiling and microwaving preparation methods. Modoc tubers are similar to standard varieties in sugar, vitamin C, and glycoalkaloid (4.5 mg/100 g) concentration. Modoc foliage clearly expresses PVY symptoms and has not demonstrated high susceptibility to viral or fungal diseases during a decade of seed production and evaluation.  相似文献

Rose Gold is a pink-red skinned, bright yellow fleshed, tablestock potato cultivar. In Ontario trials, Rose Gold is later maturing than its half sibling Red Gold and is characterized by producing larger and fewer tubers per plant than Red Gold. Rose Gold rarely develops symptoms of virus diseases when grown for repeated generations under high virus disease pressure (PVY, PLRV, PVX). Tubers have a very short dormancy. Yields are similar to Yukon Gold on mineral soil and generally higher than Red Gold. Rose Gold has produced high marketable yields on muck soil.  相似文献

AC Peregrine Red is a maincrop cultivar that produces very uniform attractive tubers with a deep red skin color. Marketable yields and skin color retention in storage are superior to Norland in Canadian and some U.S.A. locations. Dakota Pearl (ND2676-10) is a medium-maturing chipping cultivar with uniform, round, bright white-skinned tubers with shallow eyes. Dakota Pearl has the ability to produce commercially acceptable chips following long-term storage at 5.5 C without the need for reconditioning. It yields well under both dryland and irrigated trial conditions in North Dakota. North Central Regional Potato Variety Trial and Snack Food Association Trial results indicate it has wide adaptability. Yield and specific gravity under dryland conditions are similar to Norchip; Dakota Pearl has a low percentage of external defects. Average set is 12 to 14 tubers per hill. Dakota Pearl demonstrates wide consumer appeal as a tablestock cultivar due to attractive tuber appearance and bright-white skin. Sensory evaluation scores for baking, boiling, and microwaving are comparable to those of standard chip cvs Atlantic, NorValley, and Snowden. The specific gravity of Dakota Pearl is similar to cvs Norchip and NorValley, lower than for Atlantic or Snowden. Total glycoalkaloid levels are low, at 1.5 mg/100 g fresh tuber tissue. Populations of the green peach aphid,Myzus persicae (Sulzer), and the potato aphid,Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thomas), were observed on 27 named varieties of Irish potatoes in the Yakima Valley of Washington intermittently from 1947 through 1968. The Epicure, Great Scot, and B5141-6 varieties produced relatively fewer green peach aphids than other varieties tested; Bliss Triumph and Red Pontiac produced relatively fewer potato aphids. Except for Doebay Red, the red-skinned varieties, Bliss Triumph, Red McLure, Norland, and Earnly Rose, were extremely to moderately productive of the green peach aphid. No correlation was apparent between abundance of aphids and the specific gravity or yield of tubers.  相似文献

‘Pele’ is a promising, new late blight resistant potato selected for elevations above 2,500 feet in Hawaii. It has round, cream colored tubers. Yield has been statistically significant only when late blight incidence was severe. Yieldwas better when no late blight occurred but not statistically significant. Red Pearl is a medium-late variety with round tubers of stable dark red skin and white flesh. It is an ideal gourmet and canning variety due to its high tuber set and high proportion of tubers less than 4.76 cm diameter (up to 71% of the total yield). Red Pearl has good boiling and baking qualities. Its specific gravity is slightly higher and the tuber dormancy is longer than Dark Red Norland. Red Pearl yields only 54% to 77% of Red Norland because of its small tuber size. Red Pearl is less susceptible to common scab (Streptomyces scabiae < than Dark Red Norland, significantly more resistant to corky ring spot (tobacco rattle virus) than Dark Red Norland and is resistant to bacterial wilt and brown rot (Ralstonia solanacearum). Red Pearl showed similar susceptibilities to several other diseases, including early blight, late blight, pink rot, and tuber soft rot, compared to Dark Red Norland. Red Pearl is more susceptible to shatter bruise and blackspot than Dark Red Norland when handled from storage at 7.2 C.  相似文献

Specific gravity of tubers from the Irish Cobbler, Kennebec, Norgold Russet, Norland, Red Pontiac, Russet Burbank, Snowflake, and Viking varieties grown at 2 locations over 3 years were determined by the brine solution method. The usual differences in specific gravity were noted between varieties and locations. There was a narrow range in specific gravity of individual tubers within lots of Norland and Russet Burbank, and a wide range within lots of Kennebec and Snowflake, with the remaining varieties intermediate. Low variation of tubers within a variety as measured by standard deviation did not indicate low or high specific gravity. Varieties with low variation tended to remain low from one year to the next.  相似文献

Michigan Purple is a purple-skinned tablestock variety. The tubers have an attractive round-ovoid shape and a strong iridescent purple skin. It has a medium set of bright purple-skinned tubers similar in shape to Norland. The tuber flesh is white; it has few internal defects and does not darken after cooking. Under irrigated conditions the yield is high and specific gravity intermediate. Michigan Purple has mid-early vine maturity.  相似文献

TerraRossa (POR01PG20–12) is a mid-season specialty potato, released by Oregon State University, and is a product of the Northwest Potato Variety (Tri-State) Development Program. This cultivar is unique among commercially available potato cultivars in that plants produce small- to medium-sized smooth, oblong- to long-shaped tubers with red skin and red flesh. Total tuber yields of TerraRossa are similar to Dark Red Norland and less than Red La Soda. Average tuber size (136 g) is less than both of the comparison cultivars, reflecting inherent differences in tuber size distribution. TerraRossa tubers have total antioxidant levels higher than traditional white fresh varieties and comparable to the All Blue purple potato, known for its high antioxidant levels. Sensory evaluations of TerraRossa tubers indicated that it has good culinary attributes following boiling, baking, and microwaving. Potato chips made from TerraRossa tubers retained their unique red color, which represents a novelty in the chipping industry. TerraRossa could be a good candidate for the organic sector due to its tolerance to common scab (Streptomyces scabies) and tuber late blight (Phytophthora infestans) and its resistance to golden cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis). Due to its high yields, high chipping quality, good culinary properties, high antioxidant content and disease resistance, TerraRossa is a good candidate for opening new specialty type markets, adding diversity to the marketplace.  相似文献

The effects of Gelrite and agar onin vitro tuberization of six potato cultivars, Atlantic, Chaleur, Cherokee, Desiree, Kennebec and Red Pontiac under low light intensity and in the dark were examined. The medium consisted of MS salts, vitamins, 6% sucrose, 2.5 mg/l kinetin and either 2 g/l Gelrite or 6 g/l agar. The cultures were kept either under diffused light with a 16 h photoperiod or in darkness at 22/19 C day/night temperatures for eight weeks. Tuberization was earlier and more uniform (a higher proportion of tubers ≥ 5 mm) on Gelrite than on agar solidified medium and earlier in the darkness than in the light. Light effects varied from cultivar to cultivar. The slowest to tuberize in light were Atlantic and Red Pontiac, the fastest, Chaleur and Cherokee. Chaleur, Cherokee and Kennebec produced significantly more large tubers and higher total tuber mass under low light than in darkness. Atlantic and Red Pontiac reacted in the opposite way. Desiree produced significantly more large tubers in the dark, but the differences in tuber mass between the dark and light conditions were not significant. Light also stimulated shoot and root growth in most of the cultures. No relation was observed between the relative maturities of the tested cultivars and their tuberization responsesin vitro.  相似文献

Endogenous gibberellins were measured in extracts of ‘Red Pontiac’ potato tubers sampled during tuber ontogeny. Stolons contained high levels of activity and developing tubers low activity, as indicated by elongation in the dwarf pea and maize mutant bioassays. However, dilution of the extracts of young tubers revealed that low gibberellin-like activity may have been due to the presence of an inhibitor. Based on co-chromatography this inhibitor was found not to be abscisic acid nor did abscisic acid induce tuber formation after treatment of the intact plant, treatment of the developing stolons or after addition to potato stolons grown in tissue culture medium.  相似文献
