A 6-year-old 18-kg (39-lb) spayed female Standard Poodle was referred for treatment of pneumopericardium. The dog did not have severe clinical signs relating to the pneumopericardium, and the diagnosis was made incidentally while investigating the cause of a cough. Computed tomography revealed an air-filled structure consistent with a bulla to the right of the heart base that appeared to communicate with the pericardial cavity Because spontaneous resolution of the pneumopericardium seemed unlikely and cardiac tamponade was a possibility, exploratory thoracotomy was performed. A lobulated bulla was found at the hilus of the right middle lung lobe adhered to the underlying pericardial sac, and a 4-cm-diameter communication from the pericardium to the pulmonary bulla was found. Right middle lung lobectomy was performed, and the pericardiotomy and pericardial opening were sutured. The dog recovered without complications. In previously reported cases of pneumopericardium involving a cat and a dog, the condition resolved spontaneously. In this dog, in contrast, surgical resection of the affected lung lobe with pericardial reconstruction was required for resolution of the pneumopericardium.  相似文献

A 5-month-old female French bulldog was evaluated for the presence of a heart murmur. Through clinical and echocardiographic evaluations, a severe Type A pulmonary stenosis was diagnosed. Angiography during right ventricular catheterization for valvuloplasty revealed drainage from a persistent left cranial vena cava (PLCVC) into the left atrium; this was confirmed later by contrast echocardiography. This report is the first to describe this anatomical variant of a PLCVC in a dog.  相似文献

A dog was examined because of cardiac tamponade secondary to pericardial effusion. Masses adjacent to the right atrial and ventricular walls were revealed by echocardiography. Pericardectomy and biopsies of the masses established the diagnosis of idiopathic hemorrhagic pericardial effusion with organized thrombi. The dog was healthy 3 months after surgery. These organized thrombi mimicked cardiac neoplasia echocardiographically, and such a possibility should be included in the list of differential diagnoses of cardiac masses.  相似文献

A 9-year-old Labrador mixed breed dog, known to suffer from heart disease, was presented. It had recently collapsed on the street. Based on clinical findings and ultrasonography the tentative diagnosis of an atrial rupture with bleeding into the pericardial sac, resulting into a cardiac tamponade, was made. The dog's state of health improved under treatment, including infusion, sedation and analgesia. Therefore pericardiocentesis was unnecessary. The dog was released from hospital the next evening and the medical therapy of its heart disease was continued. The animal died 85 days later.  相似文献

CASE DESCRIPTION: A 7-year-old spayed female Labrador Retriever was evaluated because of pericardial effusion. CLINICAL FINDINGS: The dog had a history of decreased appetite and exercise intolerance of 3 days' duration. Thoracic radiography performed by the referring veterinarian revealed a large cardiac silhouette. Heart sounds were muffled. Echocardiographic findings were indicative of severe pericardial effusion with cardiac tamponade; no pleural effusion was identified. Pericardiocentesis yielded a considerable amount of chylous fluid. A diagnosis of chylopericardium in the absence of pleural effusion was made. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME: Conservative management was not effective, and subtotal pericardectomy and thoracic duct ligation were recommended. Surgery was postponed by the owners for 25 days, at which time the dog had both chylopericardium and chylothorax. The dog underwent subtotal pericardectomy and thoracic duct ligation; to delineate the thoracic duct, intraoperative lymphangiography was performed by injection of a radiopaque contrast agent directly into a mesenteric lymph node and subsequent injection of methylene blue solution into another mesenteric lymph node. Surgical treatment resulted in complete resolution of the clinical signs and pleural effusion. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of the development of chylopericardium prior to development of chylothorax in a dog. Treatment with thoracic duct ligation and pericardectomy resulted in complete resolution of the effusion and clinical signs.  相似文献

Two dogs with severe exercise intolerance (Cases 1 and 2) and another dog with cardiac dilation (Case 3) were referred to the Nihon University Animal Medical Center (ANMEC). Case 1 was diagnosed as pericardial effusion (PE), Case 2 as pericardial hemorrhage, and Case 3 as pericardiophrenic hernia. When these causative disorders were removed, the heart expanded, and clinical symptoms markedly improved in these three dogs. In particular, the cardiac chamber diameters and left ventricle fractional shortening (LVFS) was normalized in all 3 dogs postoperatively. There is only one case report that compares before effusion extractions in the pericardial sac with the after echocardiography findings. In this paper, echocardiography was conducted on the three endocardial disease cases, comparing before removing these causative disorders with the findings after echocardiography.  相似文献

A 6-year-old, neutered male Labrador Retriever was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and an echocardiogram revealed a large mass inside the pericardial sac associated with the left ventricle. At necropsy, the dog had marked ascites, mild hydrothorax, marked hydropericardium, and an 11.0 x 7.0 x 6.0 cm, tan and red, firm, well-demarcated mass attached to the left ventricular free wall. The mass was diagnosed as a fibrosarcoma based on the morphologic appearance and supportive immunohistochemical staining. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of a primary fibrosarcoma involving the left ventricular free wall myocardium, epicardium, and pericardium with a pulmonary metastasis in a dog.  相似文献

A 12-year-old male neutered Siamese cat presented with a history of inappetance and lethargy and an enlarged left anal sac. The anal sac was surgically excised and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of anal sac adenocarcinoma. Perianal tumours are rare in the cat and anal sac adenocarcinoma has not been previously reported. This is in contrast to the dog where anal sac adenocarcinoma is a well recognised albeit uncommon tumour.  相似文献

Two-dimensional echocardiographic (2DE) examination was performed on a horse with clinical signs of pericardial effusion. Thickening of the pericardium, excess amount of pericardial fluid, elevation of the cardiac apex, and right ventricular compression, characteristic of cardiac tamponade, could be seen on 2DE recordings. Fibrinous pericarditis was suspected by observation of fibrinous strands in the pericardial fluid and epicardial fibrin deposits. Echocardiographically guided pericardiocentesis was performed, and 4 L of fluid was removed from the pericardial sac. Streptococcus zooepidemicus was isolated from the fluid. Pericardiocentesis was repeated for 3 days, and medication was administered. Despite temporary improvement in cardiac function, the horse's condition deteriorated gradually, and euthanasia was performed on the ninth day of hospitalization. Necropsy revealed chronic serofibrinous pericarditis of traumatic origin, attributable to an intercostal stab wound entering the pericardium and the apical portion of the myocardium.  相似文献

A 16-month-old, female German shepherd dog was presented with severe bicavitary effusions. A diaphragmatic hernia was diagnosed by thoracic radiography. An echocardiogram performed prior to surgical repair of the hernia revealed signs of cardiac tamponade, with right atrial collapse, in the absence of pericardial effusion. Right atrial collapse was presumed to be secondary to severe pleural effusion. At surgery, no pericardial disease was identified. Surgical correction of the diaphragmatic hernia resulted in resolution of the pleural and peritoneal effusions. Follow-up echocardiography demonstrated resolution of the signs of cardiac tamponade.  相似文献

A 2 year old male mixed breed dog presented with clinical signs of acute cardiac tamponade after being hit by a car. Echocardiography confirmed the presence of pericardial effusion. Pericardiocentesis revealed venous blood that clotted normally, suggestive of an acute lesion involving the right side of the heart. An emergency thoracotomy was performed, and a laceration of the right atrium was identified and repaired. Postoperatively, the dog developed traumatic myocarditis that improved with time and medical management. Six months after surgery, the dog was healthy with no adverse effects of the trauma. The importance of early recognition and the necessity for expeditious surgical management of traumatic right atrial rupture in the dog is illustrated in this report.  相似文献

Objective – To describe and report successful surgical management of pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade in a dog caused by intrapericardial granulation tissue.
Case Summary – An 8-month-old, intact male, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog was referred for cardiac evaluation following 2 weeks of progressive lethargy, abdominal distention, and difficulty breathing. On the day of presentation, the dog had an episode of acute collapse. A 14-cm multilocular pericardial cystic lesion causing collapse of the right atrial free wall and resulting in pericardial tamponade was observed on echocardiogram. After the dog subsequently experienced two acute episodes of pericardial effusion, a subtotal pericardectomy was performed and clinical signs resolved. The histopathologic diagnosis of the mass was inflammation and granulation tissue, likely caused by a resolving hematoma or abscess.
New or Unique Information Provided – This is the first report of intrapericardial granulation tissue as the cause of pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade.  相似文献

A 4-year-old female Siberian Husky was diagnosed with pyogranulomatous steatitis at the site of a recurrence of left anal sac rupture (day 1). Carprofen and orbifloxacin were given for 13 days without improvement. A single dose of meloxicam was administered prior to surgical resection of the anal sac, and based on elevated liver enzyme activity, liver supportive therapy was initiated. The dog received carprofen and orbifloxacin orally on the evening of day 14. The dog became anorectic the following morning, and began vomiting. Despite supportive therapy, the dog was unresponsive to treatment and died on day 16. Postmortem examination revealed severe vacuolar change and acute necrosis of hepatocytes consistent with carprofen and meloxicam induced-toxicosis.  相似文献

Clinical use of echocardiography in the domestic cat   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Echocardiograms were obtained from unanesthetized cats positioned in left lateral recumbency. Information regarding chamber wall thickness, lumen dimensions, valve motion, and indices of contractility was obtained. In three cases, echocardiographic manifestations typical of cardiac dilatation, cardiac hypertrophy, and pericardial effusion were recorded. Unlike thoracic radiographs, which portray pulmonary features as well as a cardiac silhouette, the echocardiogram provided an opportunity to measure each component comprising the cardiac silhouette--namely, the pericardial sac, cardiac musculature, and the cardiac chambers.  相似文献

A 1-year-old neutered male mixed-breed dog was evaluated because of signs of urinary incontinence. Retrograde positive contrast urethrocystography and excretory urography with pneumocystography revealed bilateral intramural ectopic ureters and absence of the right kidney. During abdominal exploratory surgery, only the left kidney was located. The left intramural ectopic ureter was repaired by neoureterostomy (creation of a new opening for the ureter to enable urine to empty into the bladder). The right ectopic ureter was ligated at its entrance into the urinary bladder serosa. Results of excretory urography (performed immediately after surgery and repeated 8 weeks later) revealed successful correction of the left intramural ectopic ureter. Twelve weeks after surgery, the dog remained continent. To the authors' knowledge, there are few reports of ectopic ureters in male dogs; furthermore, the urinary tract abnormalities detected concurrently in this dog are also unusual.  相似文献

An 18-month-old male Dalmatian dog was presented for veterinary evaluation after the pet owner observed a sudden onset of weakness. An acquired continuous cardiac murmur was detected on physical examination. Two-dimensional echocardiographic examination revealed structural abnormalities of the proximal aorta and pulmonic valve. Doppler echocardiographic studies and cardiac catheterization demonstrated the presence of a proximal aorticopulmonary shunt. A diagnosis of left aortic sinus rupture and aorticopulmonary fistula was made. Antemortem diagnosis of aortic sinus rupture in the dog has not, to our knowledge, been reported previously. The anatomical variant of left aortic sinus rupture resulting in the development of a fistula from the aorta to the main pulmonary artery is, apparently, uncommon in all species.  相似文献

An 11-year-old mixed breed dog was presented with exercise intolerance and syncope. At admission, transthoracic echocardiography revealed myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) associated with severe left atrial (LA) enlargement and moderate anechoic pericardial effusion with a hyperechoic density suggestive of a thrombus. Rupture of the LA free wall secondary to MMVD was suspected, and medical therapy with furosemide and pimobendan was initiated. After one month, recheck echocardiography showed mild anechoic pericardial effusion and an acquired atrial septal defect with a left-to-right intracardiac shunting flow. In light of the dog's history, the latter finding was suspected to be secondary to a further rupture of the LA wall due to MMVD, this time affecting the interatrial septum. The images described here allow us to suspect that sequential LA wall ruptures developed over time in the same subject affected by MMVD, a clinical presentation not previously described in veterinary medicine.  相似文献

A seven-year-old male labrador retriever presented in right heart failure with weak femoral pulses, and pleural, abdominal and mild pericardial effusion. No diagnosis could be established initially. Two days later, the dog developed severe pericardial effusion causing cardiac tamponade. A tumour in the right ventricular wall was visualised on ultrasonographic examination. An exploratory thoracotomy was performed and biopsies of the mass submitted for histopathological examination. A diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma arising from the myocardium was established. Cardiac rhabdomyosarcoma has been reported in only two dogs. Neither report was associated with pericardial effusion.  相似文献

An 11‐year‐old, male, Pekinese was examined because of a sporadic, nonresponsive, nonproductive cough. Radiographically there was cardiomegaly and a soft tissue mass in the cranial mediastinum. Echocardiographically, chronic degenerative valvular disease was diagnosed. Furthermore, a large anechoic structure located cranial to the right atrium was detected. Computed tomography was performed to define the mediastinal mass and a right auricle aneurysm was diagnosed. The dog died suddenly 1 day after the diagnostic imaging procedures. At necropsy, a right auricular aneurysm without discontinuity of the pericardial sac was confirmed. Intrapericardial right auricular aneurysm should be included in the differential diagnoses of cranial mediastinal masses.  相似文献

Intrapericardial cysts were identified as the cause of impaired cardiac filling in six young dogs. Pneumo-pericardiography and two-dimensional echocardiography showed the cysts in 2 of 2 dogs and in 4 of 4 dogs, respectively. One dog, which was also infected with heartworms, died before surgical excision of the cyst could be performed. In the remaining dogs, surgical excision of the cysts and subtotal pericar-diectomy was successfully accomplished. Histologic examination of the excised tissue from one dog suggested that it was a pericardial coelomic cyst. The gross and histologic characteristics of the cysts removed from the other five dogs resembled those of acquired cystic hematomas. The etiopathogenesis of these cysts was uncertain, but all cysts were connected to a fatty pedicle of tissue. In one dog, a stalk of tissue was observed to enter the pericardium through a small peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia. In four dogs, the stalk of tissue was adhered to the apex of the parietal pericardium. These observations suggested that intrapericardial cysts, in some dogs, develop in association with, and possibly as a result of, congenital herniation and entrapment of omentum or a portion of the falciform ligament into the pericardial sac.
