Orbital neoplasia with enophthalmos in a cat   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
A 9-year-old cat was evaluated for left-sided enophthalmos and protrusion of the third eyelid. A primary orbital fibrosarcoma was diagnosed. During the orbital exploration, normal periorbital fascia could not be identified in the lateral and ventral region, thus accounting for the enophthalmos.  相似文献

A 13-year-old 4.6-kg (10.2-lb) neutered male domestic long hair cat was evaluated because of a history of lethargy, exercise intolerance, and ventroflexion of the cervical portion of the vertebral column. After extensive assessment at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Michigan State University, the clinical signs were attributed to an aldosterone-secreting tumor of the adrenal gland. Subsequently, an insulin-secreting tumor of the pancreas as well as a functional parathyroid gland adenoma were diagnosed. All 3 masses were surgically removed, and the cat made a full recovery with complete resolution of clinical signs. The syndrome of multiple endocrine neoplasia is well described in humans, and the heritability of the condition has been confirmed. In cats and other species with 1 or more endocrine neoplasms, it is important to perform thorough clinical assessments of patients to identify other endocrine organs that may also be affected concurrently with neoplastic disease.  相似文献

Melanocytic neoplasia in the cat   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Clinical features and histopathological details from 13 cases of melanocytic neoplasia in the cat are presented. The series includes cases of intraocular melanoma (n=5), limbal melanoma (n=2), dermal melanoma (n=5) and one case of metastatic melanoma for which a primary site was not identified. In the case of the intraocular tumours, there was apparent correlation between the degree of cellular pleomorphism, the mitotic rate and the extent of local infiltration. Such an association was not identified for the melanomas arising from the limbus or skin.  相似文献

Objective: To describe acute myasthenia gravis (MG) in the postoperative period following removal of a thymoma in an adult cat. Case summary: A 6‐year‐old spayed female domestic short haired cat weighing 6.4 kg was referred for workup and treatment of a cranial mediastinal mass. Thoracoscopic biopsies confirmed the diagnosis of thymoma. Median sternotomy was performed and approximately 95% of the mass was surgically excised. Postoperatively the cat became remarkably weak and hypercapneic. A presumptive diagnosis of MG was made following a positive response to edrophonium injection (Tensilon test). An elevated serum acetylcholine receptor antibody level was consistent with a diagnosis of MG. Initial treatment consisted of neostigmine, followed by corticosteroids and pyridostigmine. The cat responded well to therapy. New or unique information provided: This report describes a rare syndrome of postoperative weakness due to development of MG following incomplete removal of a thymoma. Post‐thymectomy weakness associated with MG has been reported in dogs and is not well described in cats.  相似文献

A case of feline rectal prolapse which appeared to be secondary to transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder is described. The cat was reported to be incontinent and treatment was declined by the owners. Euthanasia was performed and necropsy revealed an extensive nodular thickening of the entire urinary bladder wall. A diagnosis of urinary bladder transitional cell carcinoma was made on histopathological examination.  相似文献

Eight cases of feline pancreatic adenocarcinoma and two cases of pancreatic adenoma were reviewed. The adenomas were incidental findings. Most cats with adenocarcinomas had anorexia (75%) and vomiting (63%), while 38% had abdominal pain, a palpable abdominal mass, and/or jaundice. Diagnostic abnormalities included leukocytosis, hyperglycemia, increased alanine aminotransferase activity, poor serosal detail on abdominal radiography, and an abdominal mass effect on ultrasonography. The majority of cats with carcinomas had metastases (mostly to liver, lung, and small intestine), and all were euthanized or died within 7 days of diagnosis. Clinically, feline pancreatic carcinoma may be difficult to distinguish from feline pancreatitis.  相似文献

Primary pulmonary neoplasia in the dog and cat   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This article covers the pertinent clinical, physical, and radiographic findings in dogs and cats with primary pulmonary neoplasia. Diagnostic and treatment recommendations are made. Although primary pulmonary neoplasia is rare in both the dog and cat, it appears to be diagnosed with increasing frequency. Early detection and surgical treatment of carefully selected cases can prolong a good quality of life.  相似文献

An 11-year-old cat with a retained testis was presented with a chronic history of dysuria and bladder atony. Medical therapy failed to alleviate the clinical signs. Contrast radiography demonstrated a diffusely narrowed urethra. During a celiotomy and prepubic urethrostomy, a retained testis, stenosed urethra, and irregularly enlarged prostate were observed. Histopathologic diagnosis was retained testis with a well-differentiated interstitial cell tumor, a poorly differentiated interstitial cell tumor, and marked squamous metaplasia of the prostatic epithelium with suppurative prostatitis. Neoplastic interstitial cells were immunoreactive for Melan A, consistent with reports of Melan A expression in steroid hormone-producing tissue. This is the first report of prostatic squamous metaplasia associated with testicular neoplasia in a felid.  相似文献

Gammopathies associated with plasma cell neoplasms in a 15-year-old female spayed domestic shorthaired cat and a 9-year-old female spayed Rottweiler dog were evaluated by serum protein electrophoresis. In the cat, the plasma cell neoplasm was found in the liver and spleen, and an evaluable sample of bone marrow was not obtained. Some of the plasma cells had the morphologic appearance of flame cells. The paraprotein was confirmed as IgG based on agar gel immunodiffusion precipitation and both immunocytochemical and immunohistochemical staining. The dog had multiple myeloma with production of IgG and IgA paraproteins. In both cases, serum proteins were evaluated by 2 methods of protein electrophoresis: cellulose acetate electrophoresis (CAE) and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). In the cat and the dog, CAE showed a single large oligoclonal-like peak, which occurred in the γ-region in the cat and the β-γ-region in the dog, whereas CZE showed a biclonal gammopathy with 2 very close narrow spikes in the γ- and β-γ-regions in the cat and dog, respectively. In selected cases, CZE may be more effective than routine CAE in distinguishing oligoclonal from monoclonal or biclonal paraproteinemia.  相似文献

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Musculoskeletal neoplasia is an uncommon but Important differential diagnosis for cats presenting with lameness, pain or swellings associated with bones and/or soft tissues. The most common tumours of soft tissue origin are the sarcomas (in particular feline injection site sarcomas [FISSs]); the most common bone tumour of the cat is osteosarcoma (OSA). CLINICAL CHALLENGES: FISSs present a clinical challenge in terms of their local invasiveness, difficulty in obtaining complete surgical excision and high risk of local recurrence. Axial and extraskeletal OSAs pose similar challenges, whereas appendicular OSA is usually easy to remove via limb amputation and can, therefore, carry a good prognosis in many cases. PATIENT GROUP: Cats of any age, gender or breed may be affected, although bone tumours predominantly affect middle- to old-aged cats. GLOBAL IMPORTANCE: Vaccination of cats is of global importance in preventing feline diseases; hence, any possible significant consequences of vaccination such as neoplasia, even of a low incidence, are of huge concern to cat owners and veterinarians alike. EVIDENCE BASE: This review is based on current literature relating to pathogenesis, pathology, presentation, diagnosis, staging, treatment and prognosis. It aims to summarise feline musculoskeletal neoplasia for clinicians in general practice.  相似文献

Twenty-four dogs and 30 cats with histopathologically confirmed salivary gland neoplasia were retrospectively reviewed in a multi-institutional study. The predominant presenting complaint for animals with salivary gland neoplasia was that of a mass being noted by the owner; other common complaints included halitosis, dysphagia, and exophthalmia. Siamese cats were overrepresented, indicating a possible breed predisposition. The most common histopathological type was simple adenocarcinoma. Cats had more advanced disease at diagnosis than did dogs, and clinical staging was prognostic in dogs. The median survival times for dogs and cats were 550 days and 516 days, respectively.  相似文献

A 4-year-old cat was examined because of anorexia and lethargy. The cat became icteric within 3 days of admission. Values for aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, and cholesterol were higher than normal. Radiography revealed hepatomegaly, with loss of detail in the cranioventral portion of the abdomen. Further diagnostic procedures were not permitted, and the cat was euthanatized. At necropsy, cholecystitis, cholangitis, and numerous choleliths were found. Cholelithiasis is a rare cause of obstructive jaundice in the cat.  相似文献

SUMMARY An 18-months-old neutered male cat was presented for veterinary examination because of a rapidly enlarging mass in the region of the right upper canine tooth. Radiological examination showed displacement of this tooth and destruction of the right maxilla. Post mortem and histopathologic examination confirmed that the mass was a tumour, an adamantinoma.  相似文献
