Eriksson, L., E. Hydbring, L. Tuomisto, E. MacDonald, U.-M. Kokkonen, and K. Olsson: Intraruminal fluid administration to goats: effects of handling and fluid temperature. Acta vet. scand. 1994,35,289-298.– Physiological stress response to intraruminal fluid administration was studied in 5 female goats. The fluid was given through a stomach tube. The water was cold (10°C) or warm (38°C) and in an amount of 7.5-10% of body weight. Plasma concentrations of adrenaline, noradrenaline and Cortisol increased significantly after both treatments. Adrenaline and noradrenaline responses were greater and more longlasting after cold water administration, but there was no difference in Cortisol response between cold and warm water. Haematocrit and plasma protein concentrations increased also and the effects of cold water lasted longer. Blood pressure showed a sharp rise of short duration and was independent of water temperature. The immediate tachycardie response was similar with both treatments, but cold water caused an additional peak 15 min later. The cooling did not increase plasma histamine level.The results suggest that stomach intubation and administration of water into the rumen leads to strong activation of hormonal and cardiovascular stress parameters even in goats well adapted to handling. Low temperature of the fluid further heightens the effect. Warming of fluids to near body temperature before their administration is thus recommended.  相似文献

The effects of ambient temperature and source of exogenous energy (glucose or colostrum) on the ability of newborn Brahman calves to maintain rectal temperature (RT) were determined. All calves were removed from dams within 30 min of birth, before suckling. Calves were catheterized and placed in either a warm (25 degrees C) or cold (5 degrees C) environment for 150 min and given either colostrum or glucose. This resulted in four groups (warm colostrum, n = 7; cold colostrum, n = 7; warm glucose, n = 6; cold glucose, n = 6). Blood samples and RT were obtained at 15-min intervals during warm or cold through 150 min, when calves were removed from cold, and at 180, 240, and 300 min. After 60 min, each calf was given either 1 L of colostrum (38 degrees C) from its dam or glucose (38 degrees C) infusion of 750 mg/kg BW. Plasma glucose concentrations were determined by enzymatic techniques and serum insulin concentrations by RIA. Calves exposed to cold or warm air temperatures had similar declines in rectal temperature from 0 to 60 min. Colostrum-fed, cold calves had a greater (P less than .07) decrease in RT than did colostrum-fed, warm calves from 75 through 150 min; glucose-infused warm and cold calves had intermediate decreases in RT. Plasma glucose increased (P less than .0001) in glucose-infused compared with colostrum-fed calves at 75 min, but glucose-infused calves had lower (P less than .02) glucose levels from 180 to 300 min. 为了探明7个荔枝珍稀种质的耐寒性及其安全越冬的生理机制,研究采用电导法测定不同低温处理条件下7个荔枝种质离体叶片冻害指数及伤害率的变化,拟合Logistic方程求得半致死温度,并分析荔枝在越冬期间叶片可溶性糖、可溶性蛋白质、游离脯氨酸、丙二醛(MDA)的含量,及超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过氧化物酶(POD)和过氧化氢酶(CAT)活性的变化规律。结果表明,7份试材叶片的冻害指数和伤害率随处理温度的降低而呈不同程度的上升,其中YA1和紫娘喜的耐寒性较强,而马贵荔和无核荔则较低。为了能够安全越冬,各种质通过生理调控来提高其耐寒性。随着气温的下降,叶片总含水量和自由水含量降低,束缚水和束缚水/自由水升高,气温回升后又出现逆转。越冬期间,各试材的可溶性糖、可溶性蛋白质、游离脯氨酸和MDA的含量均呈先上升后下降的变化趋势。SOD活性呈上升-下降-再上升的趋势,POD活性呈缓慢上升的趋势,CAT活性则无明显的变化规律。  相似文献

Prevalent organisms on ostrich carcasses found in a commercial abattoir   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The prevalent microbial growth on carcasses before and after overnight cooling in an ostrich abattoir and de-boning plant was investigated. The effect of warm or cold trimming of the carcasses was examined together with possible causes of contamination along the processing line. An attempt was made to link the prevalent microorganisms that were identified from carcasses to those from specific external contamination sources. Samples of carcasses and possible contaminants were collected in the plant, plated out and selected organisms were typed using a commercial rapid identification system. It was indicated that the cold trim (mainly of bruises) of carcasses was advantageous in terms of microbiological meat quality. Results indicated pooled water in the abattoir as the most hazardous vector for carcass contamination and that contaminants from this source are mostly Gram-negative pathogens. Pseudomonas and Shigella were frequently isolated from surface and air samples and indicated that the control of total plant hygiene is a requirement for producing ostrich meat that is safe to consume and has an acceptable shelf-life.  相似文献

The effects of head only or waterbath electrical stunning on somatosensory evoked responses in the brain of turkeys were examined. When head only stunning with a sinusoidal AC of 50 Hz was followed within 15 s by neck cutting the evoked responses were absent following the stun. When neck cutting was not performed, the evoked responses returned from 30 s after the stun. When currents between 120 and 250 mA were used in a waterbath stunner some birds retained their evoked responses immediately after the current was applied. The proportion of birds that retained their responses after the stun was not related to the level of the current that was applied.  相似文献

为筛选适合北方地区的屋顶绿化植物,以4种景天科植物为试材,采用盆栽控水法研究干旱胁迫对植物叶片相对含水量、相对电导率及丙二醛含量等抗旱性生理指标的影响,并结合植物生长状况及隶属函数法综合评价4种植物的抗旱能力强弱。结果表明,随着干旱胁迫时间的增加,形态上卧茎景天(Sedum sarmentosum)、长药景天(Hylotelephium spectabile)和堪察加景天(S. kamtschaticum)的评价等级为生长一般,德国景天(S. hybridum cv.Immergrunchell)生长受抑制。各种景天的叶片相对含水量都呈下降趋势,卧茎景天的相对电导率及丙二醛含量增幅较小,抗旱性较强。通过隶属函数综合评价,4种景天植物的抗旱能力大小为卧茎景天>长药景天>堪察加景天>德国景天。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of drinking water supplementation with graded increases of Na and K salts on the performance and gut contents of broilers before processing. Birds had no water, tap water, or water supplemented with sodium bicarbonate or potassium chloride in the concentrations of 0.15, 0.30, and 0.45% in the last 12 and 24 h before processing. The last 12 h coincided with preslaughter feed withdrawal. Cobb × Cobb 500 male broilers (46 d old) were set in a completely randomized experimental design with 8 treatments and 9 replications of 9 birds each. Birds were individually processed within a period of 12 h of feed withdrawal every 2 h. Individual weighing was followed with electrical stunning and removal of intestinal contents of the upper (crop through the gizzard) and lower segment (duodenum through cloaca). Water intake increased linearly with greater salt concentrations in the water (P < 0.05). Body weight loss increased linearly through the feed withdrawal; however, it was greater with birds without water access (P < 0.0001). There were no effects of treatments on the yields of carcass and cuts as well as on the intestinal contents at all evaluated times. Intestinal contents from upper and lower segments were decreased with time, but responses to the water treatments were not observed (P > 0.05). It is concluded that increasing water intake through the use of Na and K salts did not affect the rate of gut emptying before processing.  相似文献

分析了高寒草甸地区冷季降水和土壤水分资源分布特征及其对牧草产量的可能影响,结果表明,祁连山海北高寒草甸地区冷季降水资源贫乏,但9-10月较高的降水受枯黄植被蒸散量小,植被盖度大的影响,易贮存于土壤,加之地处高寒, 气温低,土壤封冻早,冻结期长,使土壤水分在冬季可以冰晶水的形式留存于土体,从而给来年牧草进入正常营养生长发育阶段提供了水分条件的需求,牧草产量的高代与冷季降水及土壤水分条件有一定的联系性,建立冷季降水与牧草产量间的预报方程,其拟合率高。  相似文献

1. The objective of this work was to investigate the feasibility of head only waterbath stunning as a means of generating immediate and long lasting unconsciousness while preventing wing flapping and avoiding carcass damage. 2. EEG measurements showed that immersion of the heads of the broilers for one second in a waterbath containing water of conductivity 2 x 5 mS/cm and a 50 Hz electric field of 10 V/cm resulted in immediate unconsciousness, and that increasing the electric field strength extended the duration of unconsciousness. 3. The passage of a 25-30 mA alternating current of frequency 2000 Hz through the broilers' bodies suppressed the wing flapping that followed a stun. 4. When the body current and electric field were applied simultaneously, wing flapping was prevented and EEG signals were suppressed for over 30 seconds indicating that the immediate unconsciousness lasted long enough to facilitate humane slaughter.  相似文献

于2008年10月-2009年5月,应用改良电导法测定模拟低温处理下3种暖季型草坪草(兰引3号结缕草Zoysia japonica Lanyin No.3、阳江狗牙根Cynodon dactylon Yangjiang、假俭草E126Eremochloaophiuroides E126)的叶片、地上茎和地下茎电解质渗透率的变化,并拟合Logistic方程求冰冻半致死温度(LT50),比较分析3种暖季型草坪草LT50季节性动态变化以及不同营养器官间的抗寒性差异。结果表明,随着田间气温季节变化,3种暖季型草坪草的叶片、地上茎和地下茎的LT50呈现出先降低后升高的趋势,且兰引3号结缕草地下茎、阳江狗牙根地下茎、假俭草E126地上茎表现出较强的耐低温能力。通过LT50的动态变化分析并结合田间物候期观测,发现兰引3号结缕草抗寒性最强,假俭草E126次之,阳江狗牙根最差。  相似文献

Soaking can affect respirable dust particles and the concentrations of some nutrients in alfalfa and cool season grass hays. However, the effect of soaking on nitrates in hay has not been reported. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of soaking on teff hay, a warm season annual grass, that contained high concentrations of nitrate (>2.0%). Six bales of teff hay were used for the study. Six 0.5 kg samples were taken from each bale and assigned to one of six soaking treatments: no soaking (control), cold water immersion for 10 seconds, warm water immersion for 10 seconds, cold water soaking for 1 hour, warm water soaking for 1 hour, and cold water soaking for 8 hours. After soaking, hay was dried, ground, and submitted to a commercial laboratory for analysis. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance as a block design. When the main effect of treatment was significant (P < .05), means were separated by Tukey's honest significant difference test. Soaking for 1 or 8 hours decreased water-soluble carbohydrate (P < .0001). Phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc concentrations were reduced by soaking for 1 hour or longer (P, K, Na: P < .0001; Zn: P = .003). Nitrate concentrations were reduced (P < 0.05) to safe levels for horses (≤0.5%) by soaking hay for 1 hour or longer but soaking also reduced the concentrations of some nutrients in the hay. Minimal differences were observed between cold and warm soaking temperatures.  相似文献

Chloralose may be used in a 10% solution as an anaesthetic in dogs. The solubility of chloralose was found to be much higher in polyethylene glycol-200 (PEG-200) than in either warm (body temperature) or cold saline (0.9% NaCl). The intravenous (i.v.) administration of chloralose in warm saline solution induced acidosis as a result of the increase in the level of metabolic acids. The acidity generated by chloralose in almost neutral saline was probably the result of increase in the base deficit in the animal. The infusion of PEG-200 (almost neutral) significantly reduced the base deficit without disturbing the PaO2 or PaCO2 in the arterial blood. The base deficit value was significantly lower after administration of chloralose solution in PEG-200 (almost neutral) than after administration in saline. The use of PEG-200 as a solvent for chloralose was advantageous in two ways. Firstly, it prevented the production of acids in anaesthetic solution and neutralized the blood metabolic acids generated by chloralose administration in saline. Secondly, the solubility of chloralose (10% w/v solution) in PEG-200 was very much higher than in warm or cold saline.  相似文献

Broiler chickens were electrically stunned either by immersing their heads, necks and upper breast in a waterbath stunner or by immersing their heads only. The time to recovery of muscular activity was assessed, and it was found that the deeper immersion was associated with a slightly (10 second) shorter time to resumption of head righting. When hens which had previously been implanted with electroencephalogram electrodes were electrically stunned it was found that the incidence of somatosensory evoked responses during the first 60 seconds after applying the current was not influenced by the depth of immersion. It was concluded that depth of immersion had little influence on the effectiveness of electrical stunning.  相似文献

Ten ducks were subjected to electrical stunning with their heads completely immersed in the water of a waterbath, and 10 ducks received the same current while only the bill and skin over the crop made contact with the water. The effect on visual evoked responses in the brain was examined. A higher proportion of birds had lost their visual evoked responses immediately following the current with whole head immersion. It is suggested that crop and bill immersion is less effective in disturbing brain function than whole head immersion.  相似文献

为建立葡萄抗寒性的综合评价方法,以7个葡萄品种的枝条为试材,通过人工模拟低温的方法,分别于10、-5、-15、-25、-35、-45℃下处理葡萄枝条,测定枝条可溶性糖、可溶性蛋白、丙二醛、游离脯氨酸、组织含水量、相对电导率等抗寒相关指标,根据抗寒性指标在低温处理过程中的变化,确定葡萄枝条抗寒性指标的有效低温适用范围。并以相对电导率结合Logistic方程计算葡萄枝条的半致死温度(LT50),以LT50为葡萄抗寒能力的衡量指标,用相关分析法确定评价葡萄抗寒性的5个主要相关指标。用主成分分析法将5个指标转化为综合的主成分,确定指标权重,并结合隶属函数法建立葡萄抗寒的评价方法,运用隶属度函数值求得各葡萄抗寒性的综合评价指数Y。根据综合指数判断抗寒性强弱顺序为: 双优>左优红>北冰红>贝达>5BB>5C>黑比诺。结果表明:葡萄枝条可溶性糖含量、可溶性蛋白含量、游离脯氨酸含量、丙二醛含量、相对电导率等与葡萄抗寒性有极显著或显著相关关系,因此,运用主成分分析法结合隶属度函数法,来综合评价葡萄的抗寒性将更加准确、科学。  相似文献

Metabolic heat production and rectal temperature were measured in 19 newborn calves (41.8 +/- 3.7 kg) during hypothermia and recovery when four different means of assistance were provided. Hypothermia of 30 degrees C rectal temperature was induced by immersion in 18 degrees C water. Calves were rewarmed in a 20 to 25 degree C air environment where thermal assistance was provided by added thermal insulation or by supplemental heat from infrared lamps. Other calves were rewarmed by immersion in warm water (38 degrees C), with or without a 40-ml drench of 20% ethanol in water. Resting (prehypothermia) and cold-induced summit metabolism of the calves was 2.5 +/- .1 and 8.2 +/- .22 W/kg and occurred at rectal temperatures of 39.5 +/- .06 and 36.2 +/- .26 degrees C, respectively. During cooling, metabolic heat production declined at the rate of .65 W/kg per degrees C decline in rectal temperature. The time required to regain euthermia from a rectal temperature of 30 degrees C was longer for calves with added insulation and those exposed to heat lamps than for the calves in the warm water and warm water plus ethanol treatments (90 and 92 vs 59 and 63 +/- 6.4 min, respectively). During recovery, the calves rewarmed with the added insulation and heat lamps produced more heat metabolically than the calves rewarmed in warm water. Total heat production during recovery was 34.1, 31.1, 18.3, 16.9 +/- 1.07 kJ/kg for the calves with added insulation, exposed to the heat lamps, in warm water and in warm water plus an oral drench of ethanol, respectively.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

1. The feasibility of killing 7-week old Peking ducks with gas mixtures and their effects on carcase and meat quality were evaluated and compared with killing in electrical waterbath under commercial conditions. 2. The prevalence of carcase appearance defects and broken bones in the carcases and haemorrhaging, pH, colour, cooking loss and texture of breast muscles were determined. 3. Ducks can be killed within 3 min by exposure to either 90% argon in air or a mixture of 30% carbon dioxide and 60% argon in air. 4. Gas or controlled-atmosphere killing of ducks, whilst they are still in their transport containers, would eliminate some of the welfare concerns associated with the conventional electrical waterbath stunning systems, without adversely affecting carcase and meat quality.  相似文献

1. The daily water intake of adult Brown Leghorn hens was measured at water temperatures of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 45 degrees C. The electrical activity of neurones in the nucleus ventro-lateralis anterior solitarii (NVLAS) of the medulla was also measured when the mouth was stimulated with water at the same temperatures. 2. There was a significant decrease in water intake when the temperature of the water was 10 or 45 degrees C. 3. There was an increase in activity of some of the NVLAS neurones with decreasing water temperature and this activity was in response to specific "cold" receptors. 4. Some NVLAS neurones were identified which showed an increase in activity at temperatures of 45 degrees C and more; it was concluded that these represented responses to thermal pain. 5. It is concluded that the effects of temperature on water intake may in part be explained by the behaviour of the oral receptors.  相似文献

Measurement of vaginal temperature and electrical conductivity of cervicovaginal mucus were conducted in 20 dairy cows and were related to the phase of the oestrus cycle. Temperature and electrical conductivity in the anterior part of the vagina changed in synchronicity with phases of the oestrous cycle. About 12 hours before ovulation, the vaginal temperature increased from 37.94 +/- 0.33 degrees C to 39.00 +/- 0.64 degrees C, as compared to the pre-oestrus value. The occurrence of oestrus was accompanied by an increase in electrical conductivity of mucus in the anterior part of the vagina from 7.60 +/- 0.33 mS to 12.00 +/- 0.54 mS. Vaginal temperature dropped to 38.50 +/- 0.29 degrees C, and electrical conductivity dropped to 10.00 +/- 0.55 mS at ovulation time. Rises in vaginal temperature and electrical conductivity in the anterior part of the vagina were additional symptoms of oestrus and were followed by decrease in these values, indicating ovulation in cows.  相似文献
