Exploring National Veterinary Information Outreach

The Medical Sciences Library at Texas A&M University (MSL) participates in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region (NN/LM) Regional Resource Library outreach initiative. This program generally funds regional outreach activities promoting NLM information resources. The MSL and veterinary library community recognized practicing clinical veterinarians as an underserved population. The 2013–2014 MSL outreach proposal combined traditional activities with the development of materials to assist veterinarians with NLM resources, and exhibit to a national audience. This article provides an overview of the NN/LM SCR Resource Library Outreach Awards, an overview of MSL outreach activities for the year, and lessons learned.

Activities of the Central Agricultural and Forestry Library

The Central Agricultural and Forestry Library, which is a part of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information for Agriculture in Prague, Czechoslovakia, is one of the largest agricultural libraries in the world. The users of the library include students, scientists, research workers, and farmers. The library services consist of loans, reprographic services, bibliographic services as well as bibliographic publications. A project on the automation of the library is currently underway. With respect to the present changing conditions in Czechoslovakia, the library concentrates its information sources on the development of the private sector within Czechoslovak agriculture.

随着党校教学改革的不断深入和办学方向的转变,图书馆原有的纸质文献占绝大比例的传统型的馆藏信息资源结构已经很难满足读者的多层次需求。以读者的需求为导向,合理配置图书馆的馆藏资源是当前党校图书馆的当务之急。分析了党校图书馆读者的新需求和当前图书馆馆藏的现状,提出了合理配置馆藏资源的一些建议。     

地方高校图书馆为农村经济建设服务的思考

加快农村经济建设发展需要全社会的共同参与和支持,地方高校图书馆应发挥自身的优势,拓展服务外延,服务于新农村经济建设。研究了地方高校图书馆在农村经济建设中的重要作用,分析了地方高校图书馆为农村经济建设服务条件,提出了地方高校图书馆为农村经济建设服务的策略。     

广东高校图书馆数据库资源现状调查

对广东省高教厅公布的104所普通高等院校的数据库资源进行了全面调查,结果表明,拥有图书馆主页的院校有84所,占80.77%;拥有自建数据库的院校有36所,占34.62%;购买了中文和外文数据库的分别为1043个和646个,自建数据库196个。结合相关文献,总结了广东高校图书馆数据库资源的特点,并提出了一些建议。     

公共图书馆与全民阅读推广

推进全民阅读、传承人类命脉、构建和谐社会,是公共图书馆的一项核心任务。为此,公共图书馆要融入社会,敞开大门,走进社区,实现资源共享,开展合作,在提高国民素质、构建书香社会的活动中使全民阅读行为渗透到生活的每个角落。     

图书馆人本管理探讨

阐述了人本管理的含义和概念,探讨了人本管理中＂人＂的范围,指出了馆员和读者都是图书馆管理的目的所在,列举了国内图书馆在馆员的继续教育、图书馆免费服务、主动为读者提供个性化服务和馆藏资源的开放化程度等方面与国外图书馆人本管理理念上存在的差距。     

Organization of the Delivery of Scientific,Technical, and Economic Information to the Sector of Agriculture in the Slovak Republic

The hub of agricultural production and education, and the center of scientific and technological information dissemination relevant to Slovak agriculture is Nitra, located in the southwestern part of Slovakia. Preeminent among the libraries of the agricultural sector is the Slovak Agricultural Library in Nitra, which serves as the branch library of Ùvtiz in Prague and as the library for the University of Agriculture. In addition to providing traditional library and information services, library staff also provide analystical reports used for forecasting and policy development by the Ministry of Agriculture and Nutrition.

阐述了和谐社会的定义、核心思想及图书馆服务创新的深远意义,论述了在共创和谐社会的大环境下开展图书馆服务创新的必要性,提出了医学院校图书馆开展服务工作的创新举措。     

The Dynamics of Agriculture Subject Guide Access at Kansas State University Libraries

ABSTRACT

The Internet has profoundly altered the way library users access information. Academic libraries have responded by creating library instruction tools and subject guides as Web pages. Much effort has been invested in the development of Web-based library guides. It has thus become increasingly important to study the level of subject guide access. Library Web site usage, including subject guide access, forms a valuable output measure in contemporary library service evaluation. Accordingly, this study uses server statistics to analyze subject guide access in an academic science library. The potential use of this study is discussed.
