An 11-year-old, castrated male Miniature Poodle dog was referred due to daily plant eating followed by vomiting for 7 years. Each time the dog went out for a walk, he had been munched grass, and then vomited. There were no abnormal findings on medical examinations. Through behavior examination and consultation, we diagnosed this dog as having a plant eating problem. Because we assumed that the dog had eaten plants to supply of dietary deficiency or relieve digestive problems, advised the owner to discontinue supplying previous diet and to feed high-fiber diet. On the follow up, the owner said that the dog had not eaten plants and vomited from 3 days after initial dietary change. The dog has not shown any clinical signs for 13 months. This clinical finding shows a possibility that deficient diet, especially fiber, relates to the plant eating behavior of a dog.  相似文献

A young adult, 28 kg, intact female Siberian husky-mixed breed dog was presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) Emergency Service for evaluation of a dysrhythmia and an abnormal cardiac structure. The dog had been adopted from an animal shelter approximately 3 months before presentation. The dog occasionally showed exercise intolerance, and the owners suspected that she had impaired vision. Initial clinical signs appeared 2 days before presentation during strenuous activity—the dog uncharacteristically stopped and lay down while tachypneic. The dog produced dark liquid feces and was lethargic and anorexic overnight.  相似文献

A 6-month-old Shiba Inu dog was brought to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital because of a cough, exercise intolerance, and pulmonary edema. The dog had a Levine 2/6 systolic murmur. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed left atrial and ventricular dilatation (left atrium to aortic ratio: 2.8), mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation, and severe left ventricular myocardial hypokinesia (fractional shortening was 11.8%). Bubble contrast echocardiography did not reveal a congenital shunt; therefore, the dog was clinically diagnosed with early onset dilated cardiomyopathy. From the first visit, the dog was treated with pimobendan, taurine, torasemide, and isosorbide dinitrate. After 435 days, echocardiography revealed that systolic function had not improved. On Day 465, atrial fibrillation was confirmed via electrocardiogram, and treatment with diltiazem hydrochloride was initiated. The dog continued to appear clinically stable thereafter, until it died suddenly 1087 days after the initial visit. A postmortem histopathological examination identified severe enlargement of the left atrial and ventricular chambers as well as attenuated wavy fibers in the ventricular myocardium, which confirmed dilated cardiomyopathy in a juvenile. This is the first report of a juvenile form of dilated cardiomyopathy in a Shiba Inu dog. This case report provides evidence that the extended prognosis of this dog differed from that in previously reported cases of dilated cardiomyopathy in young dogs.Key clinical message:This is the first reported case of a juvenile form of dilated cardiomyopathy in a Shiba Inu dog. SUMMARY Four dogs with disseminated aspergillosis caused by Aspergillus terreus were treated with oral itraconazole for 190 to 1095 days. Infection was eliminated in 1 dog. Two dogs were treated for 1000 and 1095 days but were eventually euthanased 572 and 485 days after treatment was stopped. At necropsy both dogs had widespread aspergillosis. The fourth dog was euthanased for other reasons after 190 days of treatment when it was showing a good clinical response although there was radiographic evidence that the disease was progressing.  相似文献

Localized thyroid carcinoma involving the base of the tongue was diagnosed in 3 dogs examined because of a midline cervical mass rostroventral to the larynx. These masses had been present for 4 to 12 months and were firm, nonsensitive, and fixed in position. One dog had progressive dysphagia and dyspnea. Masses were surgically excised together with the base of the tongue and portions of the hyoid apparatus. Severe dyspnea that developed immediately after surgery in 1 dog was managed by tracheostomy intubation for 4 days. Transient dysphagia developed in all dogs. Hydration was maintained by IV fluid administration until water and food of gruel consistency could be swallowed 1 to 6 days after surgery. Consistency of food was gradually thickened to normal, as swallowing improved 6 days to 2 months after surgery. One dog developed aspiration pneumonia that resolved after antimicrobial administration and improved swallowing that prevented further aspiration. After 9 months, 3 years, and 6 years, the dogs were clinically normal.  相似文献

The plasma concentration of dapsone (4,4′-diaminodiphenyl-sulphone) was measured after intravenous and oral administration (±5 mg/kg) to female beagle dogs. Analysis of the plasma concentrations showed a bioavailability of the tablet of 99 per cent. The biological half-life in plasma was estimated to be 13±4 hours after intravenous and 11±5 hours after oral application. In order to test the pharmacokinetic models for their validity a chronic experiment was performed with one dog. The plasma curve, predicted from the oral single-dose data, closely matched the measured experimental data points, which indicates that the applied models are likely to be correct.  相似文献

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVGG) was administered to 13 of 37 dogs with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. All dogs received concurrent prednisone therapy, 14 dogs also received cyclophosphamide; and a single dog each received cyclosporine, azathioprines, and danazol. Dogs that responded to prednisone therapy without IVGG generally did so within 7 days (mean ± standard deviation = 5.6 ± 2.9 days). Intravenous immunoglobulin was administered after 10.4 ± 6.6 days of prednisone therapy as an intravenous infusion of 0.5 g/kg (range 0.25 to 0.73 g/kg). Eleven dogs received a single treatment, 2 dogs each received 2 treatments. No relevant adverse effects were noted. Eleven dogs had an increase in PCV of at least 4% 2.2 ±1.5 days after IVGG infusion. In 10 of these dogs, the PCV continued to increase until the time of hospital discharge. One responder died 1 hour after the increase in PCV, 1 dog was euthanized within 24 hours of IVGG administration, and 1 dog had no response over a period of 13 days. Results of this study suggest that IVGG therapy may be of value in dogs with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia that do not respond within 7 days of appropriate corticosteroid therapy.  相似文献

A 10-year-old mixed breed dog underwent a prostatectomy for an adenocarcinoma. Within three days the dog had signs of a uroperitoneum. Re-exploration revealed that a portion of the vesicourethral anastomosis had failed. Primary suturing of the tissue along the site of dehiscence following debridement of the devitalised tissue was impossible. A rectus abdominis muscle flap was created and successfully used to repair the site of leakage.  相似文献

Thirteen dogs with cardiac tamponade resulting from pericardial effusion were prospectively evaluated to determine feasibility and outcome of thoracoscopic partial pericardiectomy. A lateral thoracoscopic approach allowed adequate exposure to remove a 4- to 5-cm-diameter section of pericardium in all dogs. Complete resolution of cardiac tamponade occurred in all dogs for which there was follow-up (11 dogs). Ten of 13 dogs (76.9%) had neoplastic pericardial effusion. One of these dogs remains alive at 220 days postoperatively and is asymptomatic. The mean survival of the remaining 9 patents with neoplastic effusion was 128 days (range, 14-544 days; median, 38 days). Three of 13 patients (23.1%) had idiopathic pericardial effusion. Two of these dogs remain alive at 585 and 1,250 days postoperatively. One dog with idiopathic pericardial effusion developed cardiomyopathy and was euthanized 18 days after the procedure. Results indicate that the procedure was technically successful in all dogs. No anesthetic complications occurred. Procedural complications included phrenic nerve transection (1 dog), lung laceration (1 dog), and moderate intraoperative bleeding (1 dog). No adverse clinical manifestations of the complications were apparent. We conclude that thoracoscopic partial pericardiectomy is technically feasible and offers several advantages over conventional open thoracic surgical pericardiectomy.  相似文献

CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-year-old dog was evaluated for traumatic cervical myelopathy after a surgical attempt to realign and stabilize the C2 and C3 vertebrae. CLINICAL FINDINGS: The dog could not ventilate spontaneously and was tetraplegic; positive-pressure ventilation (PPV) was maintained. Myelography and computed tomography revealed spinal cord compression with subluxation of the C2 and C3 vertebrae and extrusion of the C2-3 intervertebral disk. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME: Surgically, the protruding disk material was removed and the vertebrae were realigned with screws and wire. For PPV, assist control ventilation in volume control mode and then in pressure control mode was used in the first 6 days; this was followed by synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation until 33 days after the injury; then only continuous positive airway pressure was provided until the dog could breathe unassisted, 37 days after the injury. Physical therapy that included passive range of motion exercises, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and functional weight-bearing positions was administered until the dog was discharged 46 days after injury; the dog was severely ataxic and tetraparetic but could walk. Therapy was continued at home, and 1 year later, the dog could run and had moderate ataxia and tetraparesis. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Hypoventilation with tetraparesis in traumatic spinal cord injury can be successfully treated with PPV exceeding 30 days, surgery, and physical therapy.  相似文献

A non-ambulatory dog with tetraparesis following a pain episode that had evolved over 2 months was submitted for medical treatment and diagnosed with intervertebral disk disease at C3-C4 and dorsal extradural compression at C1-C2 and C3-C4 using myelography and computed tomography. The dog experienced ambulation recovery after 15 days of treatment with only electroacupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, with marked improvement occurring after only 10 treatments. Six months of follow-up demonstrated that the dog was stable and had no recurrence of symptoms. Therefore, it was concluded that the combination of electroacupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine was responsible for motor rehabilitation.  相似文献

Colonic perforation after corticosteroid and surgical treatment of intervertebral disk disease in a dog Perforation of the distal segment of the descending colon, after corticosteroid and neurosurgical treatment for an intervertebral disk herniation, resulted in the death of a 3-year-old, male, Lhasa Apso. Initially, the dog was paraparetic in the hindlimbs, but became paraplegic after 4 days of conservative treatment. Corticosteroids were administered before referral and during decompressive hemilaminectomy. Six days after surgery, the dog had improved neurologically, but was depressed, anorectic, and vomiting. Abdominocentesis revealed septic peritonitis. The dog died shortly after a perforation in the descending colon was surgically corrected.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the process by which owners search for lost dogs and identify factors associated with time to recovery. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SAMPLE POPULATION: Owners of 187 dogs lost in Montgomery County, Ohio, between June 1 and September 30, 2005. PROCEDURES: A telephone survey was conducted. RESULTS: 132 of the 187 (71%) dogs were recovered; median time to recovery was 2 days (range, 0.5 to 21 days). Dogs were recovered primarily through a call or visit to an animal agency (46 [34.8%]), a dog license tag (24 [18.2%]), and posting of neighborhood signs (20 [15.2%]). Eighty-nine (48%) dogs had some type of identification at the time they were lost (ie, identification tag, dog license tag, rabies tag, or microchip). Owners had a higher likelihood of recovery when they called an animal agency (hazard ratio, 2.1), visited an animal agency (1.8), and posted neighborhood signs. Dogs that were wearing a dog license tag also had a higher likelihood of recovery (hazard ratio, 1.6). Owners were less likely to recover their dogs if they believed their dogs were stolen (hazard ratio, 0.3). CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results suggest that various factors are associated with the likelihood that owners will recover a lost dog. Both animal agencies and veterinarians can play a role in educating dog owners on the importance of identification tags, licensing, and microchips and can help to emphasize the importance of having a search plan in case a dog is lost.  相似文献

Treatment of Relapsed Canine Lymphoma With Doxorubicin and Dacarbazine   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Fifteen dogs with relapsed lymphoma were treated with doxorubicin and dacarbazine (ADIC) to reinduce remission. All the dogs' lymphomas had become resistant to prior therapy with doxorubicin alone. Five of the 15 dogs had a complete response to the first treatment with ADIC, and three had partial responses. Of the eight dogs receiving a second cycle, two had complete responses, and one had a partial response. One dog that received a third ADIC treatment no longer responded. The median survival time from the first ADIC treatment for all dogs was 45 days (range, 18-241 days). The five dogs having complete responses to the first ADIC treatment had a median survival time of 105 days (range, 45-241 days) after this treatment. Toxicity due to ADIC treatment was acceptable and did not exceed that seen when doxorubicin was given as a single agent. The treatment resulted in severe neutropenia in three dogs. One dog died due to neutropenic sepsis. Vomiting, diarrhea, and anorexia occurred, but were tolerable, resulting in hospitalization in only one instance. ADIC is apparently a useful chemotherapeutic combination to reinduce remission in some dogs with relapsed lymphoma.  相似文献

A juvenile, neutered male, Labrador retriever-poodle crossbred dog was brought to a veterinary hospital for overnight care after ingesting fluorouracil 5.0% (5-FU) topical solution. The exposure occurred the night before and involved an unknown amount of fluorouracil. The dog survived the acute toxicity but developed status epilepticus requiring control with general anesthesia and spent multiple days hospitalized in a comatose state, eventually waking with sensory deficits in both vision and smell which resolved over time. Blood samples taken at a recheck visit 1 week after ingestion, showed the dog had developed severe thrombocytopenia and moderate leukopenia. Ten days after initial intoxication, the dog developed progressive alopecia which eventually affected the entire body.  相似文献

Dr. R iser ( Philadelphia, U.S.A. ): Regarding the use of blood in America, the thing that probably is the most important is the availability of equipment. One manufacturer puts out vacuum bottles for children; these are very adequate and usually about the dosage that you would want to use in transfusing a dog. They are relatively cheap and the blood holds in them for up to 14 days and often 21 days. Occasionally we have animals that come into our hospitals to be destroyed; if they are healthy animals we can take blood from them, also many of the larger hospitals keep donors. In my own hospital we had for many years a boxer dog. We bled him about once every 2 weeks. It was interesting that this dog had never been anaesthetized and did not mind being bled at all, from the jugular vein. The greyhound is kept by many hospitals for this purpose and makes a very satisfactory donor.  相似文献

A dog was presented in a comatose state with spastic convulsions. Five to six hours before admission the dog had been in a stableyard for some time. The dog recovered within three days, after symptomatic treatment with barbiturates and sodium bicarbonate. During the first day of observation, urinary examination revealed crystalluria, and the urinary precipitate consisted of sulphanilamide as identified by mass and infrared spectrometry. Sulphanilamide toxicity was diagnosed on the basis of the neurological disturbances and the concomitant presence of sulphanilamide crystals in the urine. The most plausible explanation of the accidental poisoning and unusual case of crystalluria was ingestion of a sulphanilamide-containing ointment used in the topical treatment of wounds and fetlock eczema in horses, to which the dog had access.  相似文献

Fifteen previously untreated dogs with histologically confirmed, high-grade multicentric lymphoma were entered into a phase I study to evaluate combined doxorubicin and whole-body hyperthermia (DOX/WBH). Groups of three, four, and eight dogs were treated with whole-body hyperthermia and concurrent doxorubicin at 12 mg/m2, 24 mg/m2 and 30 mg/m2, respectively, after one doxorubicin induction dose at 30 mg/m2. Plateau temperature (42 +/- 0.1 degree C) was maintained for 90 minutes using a radiant heating device. A total of five DOX/WBH treatments per dog were planned, and these were given every 21 days. Treatment-related toxicity was not seen in the 12-mg/m2 doxorubicin dose group. Tumor progression prohibited administration of more than three DOX/WBH treatments to any dog in the 12-mg/m2 group. Premature ventricular contractions developed after the fifth treatment in one of the four dogs treated with 24 mg/m2 of doxorubicin. Two dogs (25%) in the 30-mg/m2 dose group had treatment-related toxicity. One dog experienced acute serious myelosuppression 1 week after the third treatment. This dog received all planned DOX/WBH treatments. Asymptomatic cardiac toxicosis consisting of decreased ejection fraction and fractional shortening developed in the second dog. This dog received only two DOX/WBH treatments. The three dogs treated at 12 mg/m2 had partial responses of short duration (60-83 days). Four dogs treated at 24 mg/m2 had complete responses for 150, 164, 186, and 200 days.
