Restriction fragment length polymorphic markers in the chicken growth hormone (GH) gene were tested for their association with egg production traits. Alleles of GH were determined in 3 non‐inbred strains from different genetic bases. The frequency of PS1 (+) allele in the three strains was very low in contrast to the layer strain previously reported. Results of the present study indicate that the frequency of PS (+) is related to egg production and that the PS1 (+) allele may be used as a genetic marker for selection in egg production.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

1. Theoretically, haplotype blocks might be a more suitable alternative to SNP genotypes as they are usually better at capturing multi-allelic QTL effects, compared to individual SNP genotypes in genome-wide association studies. The objectives of this study were to identify genomic regions related to egg weight traits by Bayesian methods (BayesA, BayesB, and BayesN) that fit fixed-length haplotypes using GenSel software.

2. Genotypes at 294,705 SNPs, that were common on a 600K Affymetrix chip, were phased for an egg-laying hen population of 1,063 birds. Recorded traits included first egg weight (FEW) and average egg weight at 28, 36, 56, 66, 72 and 80 weeks of age.

2. Fitting 1Mb haplotypes from BayesB resulted in the highest proportion of genetic variance explained for the egg weight traits. Based on the trait, the genetic variance explained by each marker ranged from 27% to 76%.

3. Different haplotype windows associated with egg weight traits only explained a small percentage of the genetic variance.

4. The top one 1-Mb window on GGA1 explained approximately 4.05% of total genetic variance for the FEW. Candidate genes, including PRKAR2B, HMGA2, LEMD3, GRIP1, EHBP1, MAP3K7, and MYH were identified for egg weight traits.

5. Several genomic regions, potentially associated with egg weight traits, were identified, some of which overlapped with known genes and previously reported QTL regions for egg production traits.  相似文献

1. The objective of this study was to investigate the strength of the genetic association between growth and reproduction traits in turkeys selected for body weight, conformation and egg production. 2. Two distinct populations but derived from the same heavy turkey female line and situated in different locations (UK and USA), were used to estimate genetic parameters using multivariate REML for the following traits: body weight at 14 (BW14), 19 (BW19) and 24 (BW24) weeks of age and total egg number (EGG). 3. A Box-Cox transformation was applied to egg production data to reduce the impact of non-normality. 4. The heritability estimates for each trait for the UK and USA populations, respectively, were: BW14 0.37 and 0.48; BW19 0.34 and 0.43; BW24 0.28 and 0.43; EGG 0.22 and 0.34. 5. The genetic correlation between the body weight at all ages and the total egg production was strongly negative, reaching a value of -0.75 for the UK and -0.55 for the USA population. 6. The comparison of our results with published estimates in turkeys suggests that the genetic correlation may get stronger in magnitude following selection for increased body weight. 7. This could arise from fixation during selection of genes favouring larger weights but with minimal effect on egg production, leaving the segregating genetic variation dominated by pleiotropic loci with antagonistic effects on the traits. 8. Thus, in order to avoid continued selection for body weight reducing egg production to a point where natural selection offsets selection gains, alternative selection strategies should be considered.  相似文献

1. Data on 13,773 pullets, the progeny of 30 to 50 sires and about 135 to 220 dams per generation of a strain of White Leghorn under long term selection for part period egg production over 16 generations, were examined. 2. Realised genetic gain per generation was highly significant for egg production (2.55 eggs), egg weight (- 0.51 g), age at sexual maturity (- 2.30 d) and 40 week body weight (- 11.73 g). 3. The significant genetic response of 4.46 to 4.72 eggs per generation was realised in the first 8 generations only, which was accompanied by a marked decline in egg weight (- 1.67 and- 0.79 g per generation) and in age at sexual maturity (- 4.63 and- 6.39 d per generation). The 20 and 40 week body weights showed significant improvement in the last 4 generations. 4. Realised heritabilities were much lower in the last 8 than in the first 8 generation. 5. The additive genetic variance for most traits, except 20 week body weight and genetic covariances of egg production with egg weight and age at sexual maturity, declined significantly. 6. Natural selection did not seem to play any major role. No appreciable change in fitness traits was observed in the selected line. 7. The time trends were non-significant for all the traits in the control line, indicating its stability over generations.  相似文献

Six strains under long-term selection for egg production and other economically-important traits were crossed in a full diallel, and tested with two commercial stocks and two control strains at two stocking rates (1 bird per 20.3-cm cage and 3 birds per 30.5-cm cage) and two diets (with and without an oyster shell supplement). The mean of the 30 strain crosses exceeded the mean of the six selected strains for egg production and egg quality traits, sexual maturity and viability, which in turn exceeded the performance of both of the control strains. The performance of several of the 30 strain crosses was similar to the commercial stocks. The only significant genotype X environment interaction was for Haugh units at 450 d. Performance at the lower stocking rate was generally superior to that at the higher stocking rate. General combining ability was important for the complete array of traits measured. Specific combining ability was important for the majority of traits. Heterosis was important for all traits except specific gravity, Haugh units, blood spots and laying house viability to 272 or 496 d at the higher stocking rate. The magnitude of heterotic effects was generally greater at the higher stocking rate. Reciprocal effects were important for egg production traits, sexual maturity, egg quality traits and viability. The dietary oyster shell supplement resulted in an improvement in shell quality as measured by specific gravity.  相似文献

Discovery of genes with large effects on economically important traits has for many years been of interest to breeders. The development of SNP panels which cover the whole genome with high density and, more importantly, that can be genotyped on large numbers of individuals at relatively low cost, has opened new opportunities for genome‐wide association studies (GWAS). The objective of this study was to find genomic regions associated with egg production and quality traits in layers using analysis methods developed for the purpose of whole genome prediction. Genotypes on over 4500 birds and phenotypes on over 13 000 hens from eight generations of a brown egg layer line were used. Birds were genotyped with a custom 42K Illumina SNP chip. Recorded traits included two egg production and 11 egg quality traits (puncture score, albumen height, yolk weight and shell colour) at early and late stages of production, as well as body weight and age at first egg. Egg weight was previously analysed by Wolc et al. ( 2012 ). The Bayesian whole genome prediction model – BayesB (Meuwissen et al. 2001 ) was used to locate 1 Mb regions that were most strongly associated with each trait. The posterior probability of a 1 Mb window contributing to genetic variation was used as the criterion for suggesting the presence of a quantitative trait locus (QTL) in that window. Depending upon the trait, from 1 to 7 significant (posterior probability >0.9) 1 Mb regions were found. The largest QTL, a region explaining 32% of genetic variance, was found on chr4 at 78 Mb for body weight but had pleiotropic effects on other traits. For the other traits, the largest effects were much smaller, explaining <7% of genetic variance, with regions on chromosomes 2, 12 and 17 explaining above 5% of genetic variance for albumen height, shell colour and egg production, respectively. In total, 45 of 1043 1 Mb windows were estimated to have a non‐zero effect with posterior probability > 0.9 for one or more traits.  相似文献

The aim of the experiment was to examine the efficiency of pedigreed random‐bred control populations. It was argued that it was difficult to achieve this aim by the study of the parameters of a single control population, but that a comparison of the contemporaneous performance of two or more control strains over several generations would be more appropriate.

Six pedigreed randombred control populations with a planned size of 50 males and 150 females and derived from different base populations representing strains involved in a commercial poultry breeding programme were recorded for eight generations. Some difficulty was experienced in maintaining the populations to the size planned, particularly the Wyandotte strain, and this was associated with low semen production from males and low egg production from females rather than from poor fertility or hatchability. Analysis of data on sexual maturity, 25‐week body weight and 300 days’ egg production indicated no obvious regular changes in mean or variance except for sexual maturity for which the within strain variance increased markedly. The differences between strain means stayed relatively constant and there were few changes of rank order. The intra class correlation, corrected for changes in variance, for strains between years was 0–92, 1.00 and 0.96 for sexual maturity, body weight and egg production respectively.

Heritability estimates on four of the base populations indicated large differences between strains but also that additive genetic variation for some traits in some strains was approximately zero. For such traits and strains, genetic drift cannot occur which is a most desirable feature of a genetic control population. Some data were available on crosses of the control strains, which had been recorded for egg production and laying house mortality on many farms in each of eight years. Native chicken breeding station of Mazandaran was established in 1988 with two main objectives: genetic improvement through selection programs and dissemination of indigenous Mazandarani birds. (Co)variance components and genetic parameters for economically important traits were estimated using (bi) univariate animal models with ASREML procedure in Mazandarani native chicken. The data were from 18 generations of selection (1988?C2009). Heritability estimates for body weight at different ages [at hatch (bw1), 8 (bw8), 12 (bw12) weeks of ages and sex maturation (wsm)] ranged from 0.24?±?0.00 to 0.47?±?0.01. Heritability for reproductive traits including age at sex maturation (asm); egg number (en); weight of first egg (ew1); average egg weight at 28 (ew28), 30 (ew30), and 32 (ew32) weeks of age; their averages (av); average egg weight for the first 12?weeks of production (ew12); egg mass (em); and egg intensity (eint) varied from 0.16?±?0.01 to 0.43?±?0.01. Generally, the magnitudes of heritability for the investigated traits were moderate. However, egg production traits showed smaller heritability compared with growth traits. Genetic correlations among egg weight at different ages were mostly higher than 0.8. On the one hand, body weight at different ages showed positive and relatively moderate genetic correlations with egg weight traits (ew1, ew28, ew30, ew32, ew12, and av) and varied from 0.30?±?0.03 to 0.59?±?0.02. On the other hand, low negative genetic correlations were obtained between body weight traits (bw1, bw8, bw12, and wsm) and egg number (en). Also, there is low negative genetic correlation (?24?±?0.04 to ?29?±?0.05) between egg number and egg weight. Therefore, during simultaneous selection process for both growth and egg production traits, probable reduction in egg production due to low reduction in egg number may be compensated by increases in egg weight.  相似文献

1. Genetic parameters and responses to selection involving egg composition and allied traits were estimated, using two unselected control strains and three selected strains of White Leghorns.

2. Heritability estimate for yolk weight was 0.5 ± 0.1; for albumen percentage protein, 0.6 ± 0.1; and for yolk percentage solids, 0.5 ± 0.1.

3. Genetic correlation estimates indicated that there was no antagonistic relationship between the weight of any egg component and its composition but, because of the unreliability of the estimates of the genetic correlations involving the egg number traits, it is impossible to predict the correlated effects that selection for egg composition would have on egg number.

4. Eggs from selected strains weighed an average of 3‐. g more, contained more albumen, and greater amounts of albumen percentage solids and percentage protein than controls, whereas no differences were found for yolk weight; yolk percentage solids changed little in the selected strains.

5. Comparisons of one control strain with four commercial strains suggest that the findings may be applicable to commercial stocks.  相似文献

为选育改良国产高产蛋鸡产蛋中后期蛋品质,确定合理的饲养周期。本研究选取北京市华都峪口禽业有限责任公司13世代Y1、K1品系蛋鸡,测定56、66、72、80周龄蛋重、蛋壳颜色、蛋壳强度、蛋白高度和蛋黄颜色,采用DMU软件估计遗传参数。结果表明:随着蛋鸡周龄增大,Y1、K1系蛋重显著提高(P0.05),蛋壳强度、蛋白高度和蛋黄颜色极显著下降(P0.01);Y1系和K1系56~80周龄各性状遗传力在0.03~0.52;品系内同一性状不同周龄之间高度遗传相关(0.57~0.99),同一周龄不同性状之间遗传相关(-0.39~0.43)和表型相关(-0.049~0.122)均较低。本研究表明高产蛋鸡纯系产蛋后期蛋品质随周龄增加有所下降,同一性状不同周龄之间高度相关,可以通过前期的选育提高后期蛋品质。  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to study sire family variation and variation among inbred lines in resistance to Marek's disease (MD). In three experiments chicks were challenged at 1 or 21 d of age with the BC‐1 isolate of MD virus and the post‐challenge test period was approximately 56 d. In a fourth experiment chickens were reared for 147 d at a field station where they were exposed to MD‐infected birds.

Sire families within each of the two strains studied, which had been selected for hen‐housed egg production, were quite heterogeneous for resistance to MD and incidence ranged from 0 to 45.8%. The ranking of these sire families for incidence of MD did not correlate with ranking of sires for economically important traits measured in their sisters.

MD among inbred lines in a 54‐d experiment ranged from o to 88.9% and in a 147‐d field experiment from 0 to 50%. In neither experiment was the inbreeding coefficient of inbred lines correlated with incidence of MD.  相似文献

  • 1.?A study was conducted to study direct dominance genetic and maternal effects on genetic evaluation of production traits in dual-purpose chickens. The data set consisted of records of body weight and egg production of 49 749 Mazandaran fowls from 19 consecutive generations. Based on combinations of different random effects, including direct additive and dominance genetic and maternal additive genetic and environmental effects, 8 different models were compared.

  • 2.?Inclusion of a maternal genetic effect in the models noticeably improved goodness of fit for all traits. Direct dominance genetic effect did not have noticeable effects on goodness of fit but simultaneous inclusion of both direct dominance and maternal additive genetic effects improved fitting criteria and accuracies of genetic parameter estimates for hatching body weight and egg production traits.

  • 3.?Estimates of heritability (h2) for body weights at hatch, 8 weeks and 12 weeks of age (BW0, BW8 and BW12, respectively), age at sexual maturity (ASM), average egg weights at 28–32 weeks of laying period (AEW), egg number (EN) and egg production intensity (EI) were 0.08, 0.21, 0.22, 0.22, 0.21, 0.09 and 0.10, respectively. For BW0, BW8, BW12, ASM, AEW, EN and EI, proportion of dominance genetic to total phenotypic variance (d2) were 0.06, 0.08, 0.01, 0.06, 0.06, 0.08 and 0.07 and maternal heritability estimates (m2) were 0.05, 0.04, 0.03, 0.13, 0.21, 0.07 and 0.03, respectively. Negligible coefficients of maternal environmental effect (c2) from 0.01 to 0.08 were estimated for all traits, other than BW0, which had an estimate of 0.30.

  • 4.?Breeding values (BVs) estimated for body weights at early ages (BW0 and BW8) were considerably affected by components of the models, but almost similar BVs were estimated by different models for higher age body weight (BW12) and egg production traits (ASM, AEW, EN and EI). Generally, it could be concluded that inclusion of maternal effects (both genetic and environmental) and, to a lesser extent, direct dominance genetic effect would improve the accuracy of genetic evaluation for early age body weights in dual-purpose chickens.

The heterosis inheritance backcross evaluation technique (HI-BET) is proposed as a selection strategy for developing a pair of complementary strains from a crossbred population descended from a F1 population possessing considerable heterosis. These complementary strains are expected to produce a strain cross superior to the F1 population from which they were derived. In the first stage of an experimental evaluation of HI-BET, Australorp and White Leghorn hens were compared with their F1, F2 and F1 by parental breed backcross populations for a range of egg production traits. The substantial heterosis for survivors' egg production and total egg mass was largely lost in the F2 and backcross populations indicating that this heterosis was mainly due to parental epistasis. The uneven distribution of residual heterosis in the backcross populations suggests that about two-thirds of this parental epistasis was inherited from the White Leghorn line. As the Australorp line was substantially superior to the White Leghorn line for survivors' egg production and total egg mass, it most likely contained additive genes for both these traits that were not present in the White Leghorn line. It is suggested that HI-BET should be an effective strategy for incorporating these additive genes into the White Leghorn line, together with some brown egg shell genes if also desired, as a means of further improving the performance of the F1 cross.  相似文献

1. A stock of cross-bred CD hens was divided into 'resistant' (R) and 'sensitive' (S) to stress on the basis of the heterophil/lymphocyte (H/L) ratio using the lower 99% confidence limit method for selection. A first generation was produced from these R and S females mated with similarly selected R and S local Barred males. The association between 'resistance' and some production traits was investigated. 2. The proportions of R:S among CD females and Barred males was 51.2:48.8 and 52:48, respectively. Mean H/L ratios for Barred males and females, respectively, were 0.87 +/- 0.03 and 0.83 +/- 0.03 (P > 0.05). 3. Compared with the S group in CD females, the R group had greater egg production (59% vs 51%), egg weight (65.5 g vs 62.6 g) and body weight at 39 weeks (115 g heavier). 4. The superiority of R in terms of proportion of fertile eggs, hatchability and the proportion hatched from those set amounted to 4.8, 6.1 and 5.4%, respectively. 5. The proportion of dead embryos in the R group (5.4%) was lower than in the S group (9.3%). 6. With the F1 generation the R chicks were heavier at hatching. 7. Percentage mortality of male F1 chicks, from hatching to 4 weeks and from 4 to 8 weeks, was lower in the R group. A similar, but non-significant, trend was noted for R females. 8. The progeny of the R group was heavier than the S progeny at 4 and 8 weeks and also the percentage dressed weight of males was greater at 8 weeks. The R group was heavier than the S group at 4, 8 and 12 weeks. 9. These results suggest that selection for general 'resistance', on the basis of the H/L ratio using the 99% lower confidence limit method of selection, is positively correlated with several important production and reproduction traits. Establishing resistant lines with high production rates seems feasible.  相似文献

A breeding program has been established in 2008 to improve productivity of Horro chicken, an indigenous population in the western highlands of Ethiopia. The pedigree descended from 26 sires and 260 dams. Body weights were measured every 2 weeks from hatch to 8 weeks then every 4 weeks for the next 8 weeks. Egg production was recorded to 44 weeks of age for one generation. Genetic parameters were estimated using animal model fitted with common environmental effects for growth traits and ignoring common environment for egg production traits. Direct heritabilities ranged from low (0.15 ± 0.08), for body weight at 6 weeks, to moderate (0.40 ± 0.23), for hatch weight. Heritabilities of common environmental effects on growth were high at hatch (0.39 ± 0.10) and remained low afterwards. Age at first egg showed a very low heritability (0.06 ± 0.15). Heritabilities of egg numbers in the first, second, third, and fourth months of laying were 0.32 (±0.13), 0.20 (±0.16), 0.56 (±0.15), and 0.25 (±0.14), respectively. Heritabilities of cumulative of monthly records of egg numbers were from 0.24 ± 0.16 (for the first 2 months, EP12) to 0.35 ± 0.16 (over the 6 months, EP16). Body weight at 16 weeks of age (BW16) has a strong genetic correlation with the cumulative of monthly records: 0.92 (with EP12), 0.69 (with EP36), and 0.73 (with EP16). Besides their strong association, BW16 and EP16 showed higher heritability, relative to their respective trait categories. These two traits seemed to have common genes and utilizing them as selection traits would be expected to improve both egg production and growth performance of local chicken. However, the standard errors of estimates in this study were mostly high indicating that the estimates have low precision. Parameter estimations based on more data are needed before applying the current results in breeding programs.  相似文献

开产日龄是重要经济性状,家禽开产越早产蛋初期生产性能越高.国内外学者针对开产日龄的遗传调控机理,从遗传方式、遗传力及遗传标记等多角度,应用同胞设计、全基因组连锁分析、全基因组关联分析等进行了广泛研究.多数研究结果支持鸡的开产日龄性状具有中等强度遗传力,介于0.24~0.55之间,表明通过选育可以从遗传上改善开产日龄性状.开产日龄变异系数较高,预示开产日龄整齐度将是未来选育重点.候选基因碱基多样性分析表明生长激素、催乳素、GDF-8等生殖轴基因与开产日龄变异相关,但研究结果仍有待进一步验证.鸡全基因组连锁分析发现9个染色体11个位点携带开产日龄相关基因.禽类开产日龄遗传调控研究将为品种选育及改良提供支持.  相似文献

Linkages among genes for production of Escherichia coli heat-stable enterotoxin (ST), drug resistance, K99 antigen, and colicin were investigated in 2 bovine and 3 porcine strains of enterotoxigenic E coli. In conjugation experiments, all 5 isolates transferred enterotoxigenicity and the ability to produce K99; 4 of the 5 isolates also transferred antibiotic resistance markers, and 3 colicinogenic strains transmitted the ability to produce colicin. In 2 of the 3 colicin-producing strains, the genes for colicin were located along with those for K99 and ST on a single plasmid. One of these 2 strains transferred the genes for tetracycline resistance and production of both mouse-active ST (STa) and mouse-inactive ST, whereas the other transmitted the gene(s) for STa only. Transformation studies with the 3rd strain revealed that the K99 determinant resided on a 22-megadalton (Mdal)R plasmid, and that STa and colicin production were on a 65-Mdal plasmid. Analysis of the plasmids from the transformation experiments revealed that the larger plasmid was conjugative and the smaller plasmid was nonconjugative; stable cointegrate formation occurred between these 2 plasmids. Genetic information coding for the production of STa and K99 were also present on a single plasmid of approximately 80 Mdal in both noncolicinogenic strains.  相似文献

1. Selection for low egg shell deformation and high egg production was carried out in two White Leghorn strains, M and H, in order to test the feasibility of reducing the incidence of egg breakage without loss in egg production.

2. Selected and control lines were maintained within each strain.

3. After three generations of selection, egg shell deformation was reduced in the M selected line as compared to its control counterpart but this change in deformation was not accompanied by a reduction in egg breakage; however, no reduction in deformation or egg breakage was achieved in the H selected line.

4. Crossing the M and H strains resulted in a reduction of egg breakage in the crosses as compared to the average breakage of the parental strains, suggesting the potential of utilising strain crosses to reduce the incidence of egg shell breakage.  相似文献

1. The reproductive performances of 211 domestic duck females (Anas platyrhynchos) from the pure breeds Brown Tsaiya (Ts) and Pekin (Pk) and their two reciprocal crossbreds were analysed.

2. Differences in the 4 genotypes, additive direct and maternal crossbreeding effects and heterosis were estimated on the following traits: age at first egg, egg production to the ages of 30, 35, 40 and 52 weeks of age, egg weight at 30 weeks of age, and (egg) fertility by artificial insemination with Muscovy drakes’ pooled semen.

3. Egg production up to 52 weeks of age was higher in Ts than in Pk (respectively 214 ± 7 and 150 ± 8 eggs), but not statistically different from that of the reciprocal crossbreds. The ratio of settable eggs to total eggs was nearly 90%, without any difference between genotypes.

4. Average egg weight at the age of 30 weeks was 75 ± 0.9 g for Pk, which was higher than the corresponding values for Ts (62 ± 0.8 g), but not significantly different from the crossbreds.

5. An effect of genotype was found on egg fertility: the Pk strain exhibited the lowest value, 71.3 ±3.1% compared with 75.9 ±2.1% for Ts, 80.6 ± 2.6% for Ts × Pk and 74.6 ± 1.9% for Pk × Ts.

6. Crossbreeding genetic variables showed favourable direct genetic effects for egg production and (egg) fertility in Ts, while Pk had favourable direct genetic effects on egg weight. The Pk genotype had a favourable maternal effect on fertility. Direct heterosis was 34% and 10% for egg production up to 30 and 52 weeks of age respectively, 8.8% for egg weight and 5.4% for (egg) fertility.

This article reports genetic and phenotypic parameters of monthly egg production and the influence of Box‐Cox transformation on the parameters from a population of White Leghorns, selected for feed efficiency. A total of 6450 daughters of 180 sires and 1335 dams were analysed by restricted maximum likelihood (REML) using a multivariate animal model. The traits considered were monthly egg productions, cumulative production of the first 5 months (S5), cumulative production of first 10 months (S10), and survivor egg production in the first cycle (S12). Two sets of data were analysed: the original data and with the Box‐Cox method transformed data. The results indicated that there were no great differences in the estimates between untransformed and transformed data. The estimates of heritability for monthly egg production were high for the first period, decreased to reach the lowest during peak production, and increased to the end of lay. The estimates of heritability for cumulative records were generally higher than monthly records. Genetic and phenotypic correlations among monthly egg production totals were generally high for contiguous periods and then decreased as the interval between months increased. The highest genetic correlation between monthly records and S5 was for the second month of production, whereas the correlations between monthly production totals and S10 and S12 reached their peak at the sixth and eighth months of production, respectively.  相似文献
