Seasonal evapotranspiration (ET) was determined for Sultana grapevines grown on their own roots (Own-rooted) or grafted onto Ramsey rootstock (Grafted), and irrigated with water of three salinity levels – low (0.4 dS m–1), medium (1.8 dS m–1) and high (3.6 dS m–1) – during the 1994/1995 growing season in south-eastern Australia. Transpiration (T) was determined from sap flux, soil evaporation (E s) with a model, and soil water (S) with a neutron probe. Total ET for the season was similar for both Own-rooted and Grafted, averaging 382 mm. However, Grafted partitioned a mean of 193.5 mm (50.8%) of the ET through T compared to 146.7 mm (38.4%) by Own-rooted. Daily rates of T were generally low and attained peaks of 1.2 mm (9.9 l per vine) for Grafted and 0.9 mm (7.5 l) for Own-rooted in late November, and changed very little until after harvest in February. In contrast to T, the E s rate was consistently higher for Own-rooted than for Grafted from November onwards, and at the end of the season totalled 237 mm for Own-rooted compared to 187 mm for Grafted. Differences between Own-rooted and Grafted in their partitioning of ET into T and E s were associated with their canopy development. Grafted had a higher rate of canopy development than Own-rooted, and in mid-season, the former intercepted about 50% more incident radiation than Own-rooted. The crop factors, i. e. ratio of water use to evaporative demand, based on ET were similar for both vine types with an average seasonal value of 0.25, but when based on T were 0.12 for Grafted and 0.10 for Own-rooted. The ratio of fresh fruit weight to total water used at harvest, i. e. crop water use efficiency (CWUE), based on ET, had a mean of 86 kg mm–1 ha–1 for Grafted and 43 kg mm–1 ha–1 for Own-rooted, and when based on T, was 165 and 115 kg mm–1 ha–1, respectively; however, supplementary data obtained during the 1993/1994 season, indicated a CWUE based on T of 294 and 266 kg mm–1 ha–1 for Grafted and Own-rooted, respectively. Salinity did not have significant effects on canopy development and water use for most of the 1994/1995 growing season. The study shows ET and crop factors for the drip-irrigated grapevines to be much lower than previously reported for this district. Received: 6 May 1996  相似文献

Seasonal partitioning of evapotranspiration (ET) between transpiration by grapevines (Vitis vinifera) (T gp) and by cover crops of a ryegrass/clover mixture (T cc), and soil evaporation (E s) was performed for a furrow-irrigated vineyard during the 1994/1995 and 1995/1996 growing seasons in south-eastern Australia. ET, determined with a water balance approach, averaged 622 mm. The ET rate averaged over the two seasons increased from 2 mm day–1 in spring (September to November), when it was dominated by T cc, to peak rates of around 5 mm d–1 in summer (December to February) when it was dominated by E s. T gp, determined with either heat-pulse sensors or the Penman-Monteith equation, attained peak rates of 0.75 and 0.98 mm d–1, or 6.2 and 8.1 l vine–1 day–1 in the first and second seasons, respectively. Total seasonal T gp of 109.1 mm (900 l vine–1) in 1994/1995 and 118.8 mm (980 l vine–1) in 1995/1996 constituted just 18 – 19% of total ET. T cc totalled 214 mm (34% of ET) in the first season, when pasture cover was sparse and present for 5 months of the growing season (September to February), and 196 mm (30% of ET) in the second season when pasture cover was heavy but present for only 3 months (September to November). E s averaged 49% of total ET over both seasons. At least 30% of water used for ET was contributed by antecedent soil water in both seasons. The crop factor (K c) was largely constant throughout the season with an average value of 0.48. The depletion pattern of soil water indicated that the vine explored the soil profile well beyond 1.0 mm depth and almost evenly up to a distance of 1.5 m from the trunk. Water use efficiencies for fresh fruit yield (WUE), i. e., the ratio of fruit weight to total water use at harvest, were 13.3 and 40.5 kg ha–1 mm–1 when based on ET in 1994/1995 and 1995/1996, respectively, and 84.0 and 211.1 kg ha–1 mm–1, respectively, when based on T gp. The T gp data were used to verify three models of vine transpiration developed in an earlier study. Models based on the green area index or on fraction of incident radiation intercepted by the vine canopy produced good agreement with T gp. The model based on canopy resistance performed poorly, indicating the difficulty of extrapolating the stomatal response to environmental variables from one set of experimental conditions to another. The hypothesis was tested, whether soil wetness and phosphorus status could regulate the evapotranspiration rate (ETR), which is of special interest in the lower Gangetic Plain. Rajmash was grown during November-February of 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 on a sandy loam soil, and was irrigated when cumulative pan evaporation (CPE) attained the value of 33 mm (CPE33); 44 mm (CPE44) and 66 mm (CPE66). Four levels of phosphate application were 0 kg P2O5 ha−1 (P0); 30 kg P2O5 ha−1 (P30); 60 kg P2O5 ha−1 (P60) and 90 kg P2O5 ha−1 (P90). Seed yield under CPE33 was 1.37 Mg ha−1 and reduced by 18% and 35%, respectively under CPE44 and CPE66. Continuous increasing trend in yield was recorded with an increase in phosphate level (PL). Irrespective of growth stages, similar trends were recorded for leaf area index (LAI). Maximum variation in LAI among the treatments was recorded at 60 days after sowing. On average, actual ETR was 1.37 mm day−1 under CPE33 and declined by 13% and 16% under CPE44 and CPE66, respectively. Variation in ETR under different PL was highest under CPE33 and lowest under CPE44. Except P90, irrespective of PL, highest value of water use efficiency (WUE) was obtained under CPE44. However, magnitude of net evapotranspiration efficiency (WUEET) and irrigation efficiency (WUEI) attained the highest level under CPE33 regime. All water use indices showed an increasing trend with the increase in phosphate level from 0 to 90 kg ha−1. Impact of phosphorus on various parameters was pronounced under CPE33.  相似文献

Improving irrigation water management is becoming important to produce a profitable crop in South Texas as the water supplies shrink. This study was conducted to investigate grain yield responses of corn (Zea mays) under irrigation management based on crop evapotranspiration (ETC) as well as a possibility to monitor plant water deficiencies using some of physiological and environmental factors. Three commercial corn cultivars were grown in a center-pivot-irrigated field with low energy precision application (LEPA) at Texas AgriLife Research Center in Uvalde, TX from 2002 to 2004. The field was treated with conventional and reduced tillage practices and irrigation regimes of 100%, 75%, and 50% ETC. Grain yield was increased as irrigation increased. There were significant differences between 100% and 50% ETC in volumetric water content (θ), leaf relative water content (RWC), and canopy temperature (TC). It is considered that irrigation management of corn at 75% ETC is feasible with 10% reduction of grain yield and with increased water use efficiency (WUE). The greatest WUE (1.6 g m−2 mm−1) achieved at 456 mm of water input while grain yield plateaued at less than 600 mm. The result demonstrates that ETC-based irrigation can be one of the efficient water delivery schemes. The results also demonstrate that grain yield reduction of corn is qualitatively describable using the variables of RWC and TC. Therefore, it appears that water status can be monitored with measurement of the variables, promising future development of real-time irrigation scheduling.  相似文献

The response of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) to 14 irrigation treatments in a sub-humid environment (Bursa, Turkey) was studied in the field for two seasons. A rainfed (non-irrigated) treatment as the control and 13 irrigation treatments with full and 12 different deficit irrigations were applied to the hybrid Sanbro (Novartis Seed Company) planted on clay soil, at three critical development stages: heading (H), flowering (F) and milk ripening (M). The yield increased with irrigation water amount, and the highest seed yield (3.95 t ha−1) and oil yield (1.78 t ha−1) were obtained from the HFM treatment (full irrigation at three stages); 82.9 and 85.4% increases, respectively, compared to the control. Evapotranspiration (ET) increased with increased amounts of irrigation water supplied. The highest seasonal ET (average of 652 mm) was estimated at the HFM treatment. Additionally, yield response factor (k y) was separately calculated for each, two and total growth stages, and k y was found to be 0.8382, 0.9159 (the highest value) and 0.7708 (the lowest value) for the total growing season, heading, and flowering-milk ripening combination stages, respectively. It is concluded that HFM irrigation is the best choice for maximum yield under the local conditions, but these irrigation schemes must be re-considered in areas where water resources are more limited. In the case of more restricted irrigation, the limitation of irrigation water at the flowering period should be avoided; as the highest water use efficiency (WUE) (7.80 kg ha−1 mm−1) and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) (10.19 kg ha−1 mm−1) were obtained from the F treatment.  相似文献

Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is the most important industrial and summer cash crop in Syria and many other countries in the arid areas but there are concerns about future production levels, given the high water requirements and the decline in water availability. Most farmers in Syria aim to maximize yield per unit of land regardless of the quantity of water applied. Water losses can be reduced and water productivity (yield per unit of water consumed) improved by applying deficit irrigation, but this requires a better understanding of crop response to various levels of water stress. This paper presents results from a 3-year study (2004-2006) conducted in northern Syria to quantify cotton yield response to different levels of water and fertilizer. The experiment included four irrigation levels and three levels of nitrogen (N) fertilizer under drip irrigation. The overall mean cotton (lint plus seed, or lintseed) yield was 2502 kg ha−1, ranging from 1520 kg ha−1 under 40% irrigation to 3460 kg ha−1 under 100% irrigation. Mean water productivity (WPET) was 0.36 kg lintseed per m3 of crop actual evapotranspiration (ETc), ranging from 0.32 kg m−3 under 40% irrigation to 0.39 kg m−3 under the 100% treatment. Results suggest that deficit irrigation does not improve biological water productivity of drip-irrigated cotton. Water and fertilizer levels (especially the former) have significant effects on yield, crop growth and WPET. Water, but not N level, has a highly significant effect on crop ETc. The study provides production functions relating cotton yield to ETc as well as soil water content at planting. These functions are useful for irrigation optimization and for forecasting the impact of water rationing and drought on regional water budgets and agricultural economies. The WPET values obtained in this study compare well with those reported from the southwestern USA, Argentina and other developed cotton producing regions. Most importantly, these WPET values are double the current values in Syria, suggesting that improved irrigation water and system management can improve WPET, and thus enhance conservation and sustainability in this water-scarce region.  相似文献

The effects of drip irrigation on the yield and crop water productivity responses of four tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) clones were studied four consecutive years (2003/2004-2006/2007), in a large (9 ha) field experiment comprising of six drip irrigation treatments (labelled: I1-I6) and four clones (TRFCA PC81, AHP S15/10, BBK35 and BBT207) planted at a spacing of 1.20 m × 0.60 m at Kibena Tea Limited (KTL), Njombe in the Southern Tanzania in a situation of limited water availability. Each clone × drip irrigation treatment combination was replicated six times in a completely randomized design with 144 net plots each with an area of 72 m2. Clone TRFCA PC81 gave the highest yields (range: 5920-6850 kg dried tea ha−1) followed by clones BBT207 (5010-5940 kg dried tea ha−1), AHP S15/10 (4230-5450 kg dried tea ha−1) and BBK35 (3410-4390 kg dried tea ha−1) and drip irrigation treatment I2 gave the highest yields, ranging from 4954 to 6072 kg dried tea ha−1) compared with those from other treatments (4113-5868 kg dried tea ha−1). Most of these yields exceeded those (4200 kg dried tea ha−1) obtained from overhead sprinkler irrigation system in Mufindi also Southern Tanzania, and Kibena Estate itself. Results showed that drip irrigation of tea not only increased yields but also gave water saving benefits of up to 50% from application of 50% less water to remove the cumulative soil water deficit (treatment I2), and with labour saving of 85% for irrigation. The yield of dried tea per mm depth of water applied, i.e., “the crop water productivity” for drip irrigation of clones TRFCA PC81, BBT207 and BBK35, in 2003/2004 for instance, were 9.3, 8.5 and 7.1 kg dried tea [ha mm]−1, respectively. The corresponding values in 2004/2005 were 2.7, 4.5 and 2.0 kg dried tea [ha mm]−1 while the yield responses from clone AHP S15/10 were linear decreasing by 1 and 1.6 kg dried tea [ha mm]−1 in 2003/2004 and 2004/2005, respectively. In 2005/2006 the crop water productivity from clones TRFCA PC81, AHP S15/10, BBK35 and BBT207 were 4.5, 0.4, 5.2 and 6.9 kg dried tea [ha mm]−1, respectively with quadratic yield response functions to drip irrigation depth of water application. The results are presented and recommendations and implications made for technology-transfer scaling-up for increased use by large and smallholder tea growers.  相似文献

A 2-year experiment was conducted at Tal Amara Research Station in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon to determine water use and lint yield response to the length of irrigation season of drip irrigated cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Crop evapotranspiration (ETcrop) and reference evapotranspiration (ETrye-grass) were directly measured at weekly basis during the 2001 growing period using crop and rye-grass drainage lysimeters. Crop coefficients (Kc) in the different growth stages were calculated as ETcrop/ETrye-grass. Then, the calculated Kc values were used in the 2002 growing period to estimate evapotranspiration of cotton using the FAO method by multiplying the calculated Kc values by ETrye-grass measured in 2002. The length of irrigation season was determined by terminating irrigation permanently at first open boll (S1), at early boll loading (S2), and at mid boll loading (S3). The three treatments were compared to a well-watered control (C) throughout the growing period. Lint yield was defined as a function of components including plant height at harvest, number of bolls per plant, and percentage of opened bolls per plant.Lysimeter-measured crop evapotranspiration (ETcrop) totaled 642 mm in 2001 for a total growing period of 134 days, while when estimated with the FAO method in 2002 it averaged 669 mm for a total growing period of 141 days from sowing to mature bolls. Average Kc values varied from 0.58 at initial growth stages (sowing to squaring), to 1.10 at mid growth stages (first bloom to first open boll), and 0.83 at late growth stages (early boll loading to mature bolls). Results showed that cotton lint yields were reduced as irrigation amounts increased. Average across years, the S1 treatment produced the highest yield of 639 kg ha−1 from total irrigations of 549 mm, compared to the S2 and S3 treatments, which yielded 577 and 547 kg ha−1 from total irrigations of 633 and 692 mm, respectively, while the control resulted in 457 kg ha−1 of lint yield from 738 mm of irrigation water. Water use efficiency (WUE) was found to be higher in S1 treatment and averaged 1.3 kg ha−1 mm−1, followed by S2 (1.1 kg ha−1 mm−1), and S3 (1.0 kg ha−1 mm−1), while in the control WUE was 0.80 kg ha−1 mm−1. Lint yield was negatively correlated with plant height and the number of bolls per plant and positively correlated with the percentage of opened bolls. This study suggests that terminating irrigation at first open boll stage has been found to provide the highest cotton yield with maximum WUE under the semi-arid conditions of the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon.  相似文献

Long-term analysis of hydrologic series in irrigated areas allows identifying the main water balance components, minimizing closing errors and assessing changes in the hydrologic regime. The main water inputs [irrigation (I) and precipitation (P)] and outputs [outflow (Q) and potential (ETc) crop evapotranspiration] in the 4000-ha La Violada irrigation district (VID) (Ebro River Basin, Spain) were measured or estimated from 1995 to 2008. A first-step, simplified water balance assuming steady state conditions (with error ? = I + PQ − ETc) showed that inputs were much lower than outputs in all years (average ? = −577 mm yr−1 or −33% closing error). A second-step, improved water balance with the inclusion of other inputs (municipal waste waters, canal releases and lateral surface runoff) and the estimation of crop's actual evapotranspiration (ETa) through a daily soil water balance reduced the average closing error to −13%. Since errors were always higher during the irrigated periods, when canals are full of water, a third-step, final water balance considered canal seepage (CS) as an additional input. The change in water storage in the system (ΔW) was also included in this step. CS and ΔW were estimated through a monthly soil–aquifer water balance, showing that CS was a significant component in VID. With the inclusion of CS and ΔW in the water balance equation, the 1998–2008 annual closing errors were within ±10% of total water outputs. This long-term, sequential water balance analysis in VID was an appropriate approach to accurately identify and quantify the most important water balance components while minimizing water balance closing errors.  相似文献

Agricultural food production in arid and semi-arid regions faces the challenge to ensure high yields with limited supply of water. This raises the question to which extent irrigation supply can be reduced without detriment to yield. Our study focuses on the yield-water uptake relationship for maize in the moderate water stress range in order to determine the onset of stress-induced dry-matter and yield losses. Compensatory plant responses under moderate stress levels are discussed in relation to seasonal climatic conditions.Summer-sown and spring-sown maize were irrigated with a decreasing amount of water in a field experiment in Pakistan. Water supply ranged from 100% water required to maintain soil at field capacity (FC) to 40% of FC. The average dry-matter and yield levels were slightly higher for summer-sown (15.0 Mg ha−1) compared to spring-sown maize (13.1 Mg ha−1). The onset of significant dry-matter and yield reduction started at the least irrigation treatment in both seasons. The amount of water required to avoid production losses was 272 mm in the summer-sown maize during the autumn growing season, and 407 mm for the spring-sown maize in the summer season, when the evaporative demand of the atmosphere was +27% higher. Water use efficiency (WUEET), normalized by vapour pressure deficit, of the summer-sown maize which was 10.0 kg kPa m−3, was +15% higher compared to the spring-sown crop; while the irrigation water productivity (2.9 kg m−3) was +11% more. WUEET increased over the whole range of applied water deficits for summer-sown maize, while the spring-sown crop showed a decreasing WUEET in the less irrigated treatment. Due to the higher efficiency in summer-sown maize, the potential in irrigation reduction without production losses (129 mm) was higher compared to the spring-sown maize (57 mm). Our results showed that in Pakistan water saving irrigation practices can be applied without yield loss mainly during the cooler growing season when the crop can efficiently compensate a lower total water uptake by increased use efficiency. For spring-sown maize the increasing evaporative demand of the atmosphere towards summer implies a higher risk of yield losses and narrows the range to exploit higher irrigation water productivity under moderate water deficit conditions.  相似文献

A field study on cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L., cv.) was carried out from 2005 to 2008 in the Çukurova Region, Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey. Treatments were designated as I100 full irrigation; DI70, DI50 and DI00 which received 70, 50, and 0% of the irrigation water amount applied in the I100 treatment. The irrigation water amount to be applied to the plots was calculated using cumulative pan evaporation that occurred during the irrigation intervals. The effect of water deficit or water stress on crop yield and some plant growth parameters such as yield response, water use efficiencies, dry matter yield (DM), leaf area index (LAI) as well as on lint quality components was evaluated. The average seasonal evapotranspiration ranged from 287 ± 15 (DI00) to 584 ± 80 mm (I100). Deficit irrigation significantly affected crop yield and all yield components considered in this study. The average seed cotton yield varied from 1369 ± 197 (DI00) to 3397 ± 508 kg ha−1 (I100). The average water use efficiency (WUEET) ranged from 6.0 ± 1.6 (I100) to 4.8 ± 0.9 kg ha−1 mm−1 (DI00), while average irrigation water use efficiency (WUEI) was between 9.4 ± 3.0 (I100) and 14.4 ± 4.8 kg ha−1 mm−1 (DI50). Deficit irrigation increased the harvest index (HI) values from 0.26 ± 0.054 (I100) to 0.32 ± 0.052 kg kg−1 (DI50). Yield response factor (Ky) was determined to be 0.98 based on four-year average. Leaf area index (LAI) and dry matter yields (DM) increased with increasing water use. This study demonstrated that the full irrigated treatment (I100) should be used for semiarid conditions with no water shortage. However, DI70 treatment needs to be considered as a viable alternative for the development of reduced irrigation strategies in semiarid regions where irrigation water supplies are limited.  相似文献

Evapotranspiration (ET) is an important component of the water cycle at field, regional and global scales. This study used measured data from a 30-year irrigation experiment (1979-2009) in the North China Plain (NCP) on winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and summer maize (Zea mays L.) to analyze the impacts of climatic factors and crop yield on ET. The results showed that grass reference evapotranspiration (ETo, calculated by FAO Penmen-Monteith method) was relatively constant from 1979 to 2009. However, the actual seasonal ET of winter wheat and maize under well-watered condition gradually increased from the 1980s to the 2000s. The mean seasonal ET was 401.4 mm, 417.3 mm and 458.6 mm for winter wheat, and 375.7 mm, 381.1 mm and 396.2 mm for maize in 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, respectively. The crop coefficient (Kc) was not constant and changed with the yield of the crops. The seasonal average Kc of winter wheat was 0.75 in the 1980s, 0.81 in the 1990s and 0.85 in the 2000s, and the corresponding average grain yield (GY) was 4790 kg ha−1, 5501 kg ha−1 and 6685 kg ha−1. The average Kc of maize was 0.88 in the 1980s, 0.88 in the 1990s and 0.94 in the 2000s, with a GY of 5054 kg ha−1, 7041 kg ha−1 and 7874 kg ha−1, respectively, for the three decades. The increase in ET was not in proportion to the increase in GY, resulting improved water use efficiency (WUE). The increase in ET was possibly related to the increase in leaf stomatal conductance with renewing in cultivars. The less increase in water use with more increase in grain production could be partly attributed to the significant increase in harvest index. The results showed that with new cultivars and improved management practices it was possible to further increase grain production without much increase in water use.  相似文献

A methodology has been developed to quantify spatial variation of crop yield, evapotranspiration (ET) and water productivity (WPET) using the SEBAL algorithm and high and low resolution satellite images. SEBAL-based ET estimates were validated over an irrigated, wheat dominated area in the Yaqui Valley, Mexico and proved to be accurate (8.8% difference for 110 days). Estimated average wheat yields in Yaqui Valley of 5.5 t ha−1 were well within the range of measured yields reported in the literature. Measured wheat yields in 24 farmers’ fields in Sirsa district, India, were 0.4 t ha−1 higher than SEBAL estimated wheat yields. Area average WPET in the Yaqui Valley was 1.37 kg m−3 and could be considered to be high as compared to other irrigated systems around the world where the same methodology was applied. A higher average WPET was found in Egypt's Nile Delta (1.52 kg m−3), Kings County (CA), USA (1.44 kg m−3) and in Oldambt, The Netherlands (1.39 kg m−3). The spatial variability of WPET within low productivity systems (CV = 0.33) is higher than in high productivity systems (CV = 0.05) because water supply in the former case is uncertain and farming conditions are sub-optimal. The high CV found in areas with low WPET indicates that there is considerable scope for improvement. The average scope for improvement in eight systems was 14%, indicating that 14% ET reduction can be achieved while maintaining the same yield. It is concluded that the proposed methodology is accurate and that better knowledge of the spatial variation of WPET provides valuable information for achieving local water conservation practices in irrigated wheat.  相似文献

Northeast Thailand has a semi-humid tropical climate which is characterized by dry and rainy seasons. In order to stabilize crop production, it may be necessary to develop new water resources, such as soil moisture and groundwater, instead of rainfed resources. This is because rainfed agriculture has already been unsuccessfully tried in many areas of this region. In this study, we investigate the soil water content in rainfed fields in Khon Kaen in Northeast Thailand, where rice and sugarcane were planted, over a 1-year period that contained both dry and rainy seasons, and estimate the actual evapotranspiration (ETa) using micrometeorological data. In addition, we assess the water balance from the results of the soil water content investigation and the actual evapotranspiration. Although the soil water content at depths above 0.6 m in both the lower and the sloping fields gradually decreased during the dry season, the soil water content at a depth of 1.0 m was under almost constant wet conditions. Two-dimensional profiles of the soil water content demonstrated that at the end of the dry season, the soil layers below a depth of 0.4 m showed a soil water content of more than 0.10-0.15 m3 m−3, thus suggesting that water was supplied to the sugarcane from those layers. The range in ETa rates was almost the same as that in the previous study. The average ETa rates were 3.7 mm d−1 for the lower field and 4.2 mm d−1 for the sloping field. In the dry season, an upward water flow of 373 mm (equivalent to a flux of 1.9 mm d−1) was estimated from outside the profile. The source of this upward water flow was the sandy clay (SC) layer below a depth of 1 m. It was this soil water supply from the SC layer that allowed the sugarcane to grow without irrigation.  相似文献

Accurate estimation of actual evapotranspiration (ETa) is essential for effective local or regional water management. At a local scale, ET estimates can be made accurately considering a soil-plant-atmospheric system, if adequate meteorological-ground data or ET measurements are available. However, at a regional scale, ETa values cannot be measured directly and the estimates are frequently subject to errors. Although it is possible to extrapolate to the regional scale from local (point) data of meteorological stations, the relative sparse coverage of ground estimate can make this problematic without some spatial analysis to demonstrate the similarity of the climate in the area. The introduction of remote sensing data and techniques offers alternatives both to estimate variables (i.e. radiation) and parameters (i.e. ET) with few spatial restrictions, thus, it provides potential advantages to the regional ETa computation. In particular, the use of remote sensing procedures like the surface energy balance-based algorithms (SEB) have been successfully applied in different climates, enabling the estimation of ETa at local and regional scales. A proper variation of the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) was applied to 4 years of data for the Flumen District in the Ebro Basin at the N.E. of Spain. Results obtained show that the remote sensing algorithm can provide accurate daily ETa estimations as compared with lysimeter measurements of daily ET values for two crop plots: one with a reference grass and other with maize or wheat as function of the season. Also a comparison between ETa and the reference and crop ET values applying the Penman-Monteith method was carried out. The comparison analysis consider an accepted error difference of 1.0 mm d−1 (20% of error) for local scale, the ETa values for the grass show a bias of 0.30 mm d−1 against the ETgrass and a bias of 0.36 mm d−1 against ETo. Differences between ETmaize or ETwheat and ETa against their average showed an acceptable agreement for the field with sdiff ± 0.6 mm d−1. For the crop fields at regional scale external causes associated to atmospheric and surface variations (i.e. land preparation) rather to the remote sensing algorithm made difficult to determine a percentage of error. Finally, ETa values were obtained at regional scale and it was demonstrated that using the remote sensing improve significantly the crop ET estimations computed in the area using traditional methods.  相似文献

The continuous flow furrow irrigation (COFFI), surge flow furrow irrigation (SUFFI), cutback flow furrow irrigation (CUFFI), variable alternate flow furrow irrigation (VAFFI), and tail water reuse system furrow (TWRSF) techniques with the same inflow rate of 0.072 m3 min−1 were compared in relation to the cotton yield and water use efficiency at a 3-year field study conducted on cotton (Gossypium spp.) in the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) area of Turkey. Yields revealed significant statistical differences between the furrow management techniques (P < 0.05). The maximum yield was obtained from the COFFI treatment (2,630 and 2,920 kg ha−1) in the first 2 years, and from SUFFI and CUFFI treatments (3,690 and 3,780 kg ha−1, respectively) in the last year. There were significant yield reductions, which varied from 10 to 35% in TWRSF and from 11 to 19% in VAFFI treatments although 43 and 28% more water was applied to the TWRSF than to CUFFI and SUFFI treatments, respectively. The average total water use efficiencies (WUEET) varied from 4.14 (VAFFI) to 2.59 (COFFI). The corresponding values were 0.37 and 0.36 kg ha−1 m−3 for CUFFI and SUFFI, respectively. The average irrigation water use efficiency (WUEIR) for CUFFI and SUFFI treatments were 0.30 and 0.23 kg ha−1 m−3, respectively.  相似文献

Crops grown in semiarid rainfed conditions are prone to water stress which could be alleviated by improving cultural practices. This study determined the effect of cropping system, cultivar, soil nitrogen status and Rhizobium inoculation (Rz) on water use and water use efficiency (WUE) of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in semiarid environments. The cultivars Amit, CDC Anna, CDC Frontier, and CDC Xena were grown in no-till barley, no-till wheat, and tilled-fallow systems and under various rates of N fertilizer (0, 28, 56, 84, and 112 kg N ha−1) coupled with or without Rz. The study was conducted at Swift Current and Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, from 2004 to 2006. On average, chickpea used about 10 mm of water from the top 0-15 cm soil depth. In the tilled-fallow system, chickpea extracted 20% more water in the 15-30 cm depth, 70% more in the 30-60 cm depth, and 156% more in the 60-120 cm depth than when it was grown in the no-till systems. CDC Xena had WUE of 5.3 kg ha−1 mm−1 or 20% less than the average WUE (6.6 kg ha−1 mm−1) of the three other cultivars, even though these cultivars used the same amounts of water. Water use efficiency increased from 4.7 to 6.8 kg ha−1 mm−1 as N fertilizer rate was increased from 0 to 112 kg N ha−1 when chickpea was grown in the no-till barley or wheat systems, but chickpea grown in the tilled-fallow system did not respond to changes in the fertilizer N rates averaging WUE of 6.5 kg ha−1 mm−1. In the absence of N fertilizer, the application of Rz increased WUE by 33% for chickpea grown in the no-till barley system, 30% in the no-till wheat system, and 9% in the tilled-fallow system. Chickpea inoculated with Rhizobium achieved a WUE value similar to the crop fertilized at 84 kg N ha−1. Without the use of Rz, chickpea increased WUE in a linear fashion with increasing fertilizer N rates from 0 to 84 kg N ha−1. Cropping system, cultivar, and inoculation all had greater impact on WUE than on the amount of water extracted by the crop from the soil. The improvement of cultural practices to promote general plant health along with the development of cultivars with improved crop yields will be keys for improving water use efficiency of chickpea in semiarid environments.  相似文献

Physically, evaporative demand is driven by net radiation (Rn), vapour pressure (ea), wind speed (u2), and air temperature (Ta), each of which changes over time. By analyzing temporal variations in reference evapotranspiration (ET0), improved understanding of the impacts of climate change on hydrological processes can be obtained. In this study, variations in ET0 over 58 years (1950-2007) at 34 stations in the Haihe river basin of China were analyzed. ET0 was calculated by the FAO Penman-Monteith formula. Calculation of Kendall rank coefficient was done by analyzing the annual and seasonal trends in ET0 derived from its dependent climate variables. Inverse distance weighting (IDW) was used to analyze the spatial variation in annual and seasonal ET0, and in each climate variable. An attribution analysis was performed to quantify the contribution of each input variable to ET0 variation. The results showed that ET0 gradually decreased in the whole basin over the 58 years at a rate of −1.0 mm yr−2, at the same time, Rn, u2 and precipitation also decreased. Changes in ET0 were attributed to the variations in net radiation (−0.9 mm yr−2), vapour pressure (−0.5 mm yr−2), wind speed (−1.3 mm yr−2) and air temperature (1.7 mm yr−2). Looking at all data on a month by month basis, we found that Ta had a positive effect on dET0/dt (the derivative of reference evapotranspiration to time) and Rn and u2 had negative effects on dET0/dt. While changes in air temperature were found to produce a large increase in dET0/dt, changes in other key variables each reduced rates, resulting in an overall negative trend in dET0/dt.  相似文献

Water requirements of olive orchards are difficult to calculate, since they are influenced by heterogeneous factors such as age, planting density and irrigation systems. Here we propose a model of olive water requirements, capable of separately calculating transpiration (E p), intercepted rainfall evaporation (E pd) and soil evaporation (E s) from the wet and dry fraction of the soil surface under localized irrigation. The model accounts for the effects of canopy dimension on E p and of the wetted soil surface fraction on E s. The model was tested against actual measurements of olive evapotranspiration (ET) obtained by the eddy covariance technique in a developing olive orchard during 3 years. The predicted ET and crop coefficients showed good agreement with the measured data. The model was then used to simulate the average water requirements of two mature orchards using 20-year meteorological datasets of Cordoba (Spain) and Fresno (CA, USA). Average annual ET of a 300 trees ha−1 orchard at Cordoba was 1,025 mm, while the same orchard at Fresno had an average ET of 927 mm. Transpiration losses were 602 mm at Cordoba and 612 mm at Fresno. Evaporation from the soil can have a large effect on olive ET; thus, olive crop coefficients (K c) are very sensitive to the rainfall regime.  相似文献

Decreasing in water availability for cotton production has forced researchers to focus on increasing water use efficiency by improving either new drought-tolerant cotton varieties or water management. A field trial was conducted to observe the effects of different drip irrigation regimes on water use efficiencies (WUE) and fiber quality parameters produced from N-84 cotton variety in the Aegean region of Turkey during 2004 and 2005. Treatments were designated as full irrigation (T100, which received 100% of the soil water depletion) and those that received 75, 50 and 25% of the amount received by treatment T100 on the same day (treatments T75; T50 and T25, respectively). The average seasonal water use values ranged from 265 to 753 mm and the average seed cotton yield varied from 2550 to 5760 kg ha−1. Largest average cotton yield was obtained from the full irrigation treatment (T100). WUE ranged from 0.77 kg m−3 in the T100 to 0.98 kg m−3 in the T25 in 2004 growing season and ranged from 0.76 kg m−3 in the T100 to 0.94 kg m−3 in the T25 in 2005 growing season. The largest irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) was observed in the T25 (1.46 kg m−3), and the smallest IWUE was in the T100 treatment (0.81 kg m−3) in the experimental years. A yield response factor (ky) value of 0.78 was determined based on averages of two years. Leaf area index (LAI) and dry matter yields (DM) increased with increasing water use for treatments. Fiber qualities were influenced by drip irrigation levels in both years. The results revealed that well-irrigated treatments (T100) could be used for the semi-arid climatic conditions under no water shortage. Moreover, the results also demonstrated that irrigation of cotton with drip irrigation method at 75% level (T75) had significant benefits in terms of saved irrigation water and large WUE indicating a definitive advantage of deficit irrigation under limited water supply conditions. In an economic viewpoint, 25.0% saving in irrigation water (T75) resulted in 34.0% reduction in the net income. However, the net income of the T100 treatment is found to be reasonable in areas with no water shortage.  相似文献
