Seed germination and seedling establishment are critical stages in plant life history, and both processes may be affected when buried under soil. Our aim was to investigate the effects of soil burial on the germination and seedling establishment of invasive Prosopis juliflora (Fabaceae). We studied the effects of burial, from soil surface to 4?cm deep, under greenhouse conditions and the effects of seed-storing in burial conditions at two depths (5 and 20?cm) and two storing periods (during 6 and 12?months) in field conditions. Soil burial limited the germination and the establishment of P. juliflora, which did not germinate at soil depths deeper than 3?cm. Some seedlings coming from seeds germinated at 2?cm, and every seedling at the soil surface and at 3?cm deep died. In contrast, survivorship of emerged seedlings was close to 90% between 0.5 and 2?cm depth. Seedlings developed the longest shoots at 1?cm deep, indicating that P. juliflora was able to get advantage at a moderate soil depth. Un-embedded seeds survived buried in the soil for months; however, their germination and the emerged seedling survivorship decreased after burial for 12?months.  相似文献

Abstract

During the last century increasing human trade networks have interacted with other global changes – such as land use and climate change – to accelerate the range expansion of pest species worldwide. In this special issue, we present a series of articles that model the risk of establishment and spread of non-native harmful species, as well as shifts in the distribution of native pest species. We also provide a state-of the art review of the available literature on species distribution models for pests, weeds, and pathogens. Recent advances in modelling approaches have allowed us to significantly improve our abilities to predict changes in species distribution, and these tools have been widely used to enhance biosecurity planning and pest management. We expect that this special issue contributes toward and integration of the scientific knowledge and the development of novel approaches to model pest species distribution, as well as to better understand the factors that influence their expansion in the context of a rapidly changing world.  相似文献

An understanding of ecosystem response to the removal of a dominant non‐native species is critical for planning control or eradication efforts. The objective of this study was to evaluate the response of recently abandoned agricultural fields in south‐eastern Arizona, USA to the removal of Cynodon dactylon, a dominant perennial rhizomatous grass. C. dactylon was removed from treatment plots using glyphosate herbicide. Repeated application of glyphosate to C. dactylon did have a significant impact on the cover of C. dactylon and in the community composition of the treated plots. However, patterns observed in this study were similar in both control and treated plots, suggesting that the response of the system to the removal of C. dactylon was nested within larger changes the entire system was experiencing during the time of the study. The short‐term, dynamic response to herbicide treatment seemed to be mediated by the amount and timing of precipitation. Additionally, though C. dactylon removal via herbicide treatment was effective, undesired effects including increases in other non‐native, noxious species were observed. The results demonstrate that control of C. dactylon would likely be possible and cost‐effective for this site. However, removing C. dactylon apparently created conditions conducive for other opportunistic species to increase. The decision to undertake a large‐scale eradication effort should weigh the benefits of C. dactylon removal against the potential increase in other undesirable species.  相似文献

Background

Data on the movement behavior of translocated wild pigs is needed to develop appropriate response strategies for containing and eliminating new source populations following translocation events. We conducted experimental trials to compare the home range establishment and space-use metrics, including the number of days and distance traveled before becoming range residents, for wild pigs translocated with their social group and individually.

Results

We found wild pigs translocated with their social group made less extensive movements away from the release location and established a stable home range ~5 days faster than those translocated individually. We also examined how habitat quality impacted the home range sizes of translocated wild pigs and found wild pigs maintained larger ranges in areas with higher proportion of low-quality habitat.

Conclusion

Collectively, our findings suggest translocations of invasive wild pigs have a greater probability of establishing a viable population near the release site when habitat quality is high and when released with members of their social unit compared to individuals moved independent of their social group or to low-quality habitat. However, all wild pigs translocated in our study made extensive movements from their release location, highlighting the potential for single translocation events of either individuals or groups to have far-reaching consequences within a much broader landscape beyond the location where they are released. These results highlight the challenges associated with containing populations in areas where illegal introduction of wild pigs occurs, and the need for rapid response once releases are identified. © 2023 The Authors. 通过2015~2016年两年的田间试验,用遮光率为70%的黑色遮阳网进行不同遮阴处理,其中2015年设置幼苗期遮阴处理(出苗后遮阴15d),2016年设置90d(全生育期)遮阴、前15d遮阴、前30d遮阴、前60d遮阴、后60d遮阴、中间30d遮阴、后30d遮阴7个处理,均以不遮阴作对照,研究幼苗期遮阴对云南春作马铃薯生长和产量的影响。结果表明,幼苗期遮阴能够促进马铃薯茎叶快速生长,其株高、节长和叶面积较对照分别增加179.03%、163.41%、61.68%,差异极显著。遮阴后,对茎的生长最有利,茎鲜重、茎叶鲜重和总生物量较对照分别增加286.23%、151.55%、136.66%,差异显著。两年的数据表明,幼苗期遮阴处理单株结薯数较对照增加11.67%~58.06%,单株产量较对照增加17.78%~41.05%,并有较高的商品薯重比率,2015年略低于对照,2016年较对照高4.34%。不同年份效果不一样,与遮阴期间天气有关。遮阴处理较不遮阴处理均会导致结薯减少,产量降低。  相似文献

潜在和新发外来入侵物种数据可视化展示是外来入侵物种管理的重要载体。潜在和新发外来入侵物种数据具有混合型(包括结构化和非结构化)和离散性(数据分布在不同的系统或平台)特点。本文在分析这些数据的基础上,以预警监测模型分析与三维可视化集成、多源异构数据融合为切入点,综合运用3D GIS、物联网、大数据等技术手段,研发潜在和新发外来入侵物种可视化系统的关键技术;以潜在外来入侵物种地中海实蝇Ceratitis capitata和新发外来入侵物种番茄潜叶蛾Tuta absoluta为例,构建多源异构数据融合的潜在和新发入侵物种预警监测三维可视化系统,形成了基于GIS技术的典型潜在和新发外来入侵物种可视化平台的解决方案。该系统可为我国潜在和新发外来入侵物种分级控制管理和区域性防控预案制定提供科学支撑。  相似文献

外来入侵生物通过与本地生物竞争营养、水分和生存空间,造成严重的生态破坏和生物污染,最终导致生物多样性的丧失,逐渐成为人类生存和社会可持续发展的新威胁。简单序列重复(simple sequence repeats,SSRs)或微卫星DNA(microsatellites DNA)分子标记是生物群体遗传结构分析与变异研究中极有价值的分子标记,由于其具有多态性检出率高、信息含量大、共显性标记、实验操作简单、结果稳定可靠等优点,目前在外来入侵生物研究中得到广泛应用。本文概述了SSR分子标记在入侵昆虫来源鉴定、杂交和基因渗透、瓶颈效应等方面的应用进展,并对其在入侵生物学中的应用前景进行了展望。  相似文献

苹浅褐卷蛾原产澳大利亚,目前仅分布于少数地区,是澳大利亚、新西兰及英国等国家多种经济作物上的重要害虫,苹浅褐卷蛾形态具有多态性,对其形态鉴定一直非常困难,由此也增加了该虫在口岸上的入侵风险。本研究使用DNA条形码技术(barcoding)测定了采集自新西兰5个不同地区苹浅褐卷蛾种群26个样本的细胞色素酶I(COI)序列。研究表明,苹浅褐卷蛾种内COI序列差异远小于3%,而与BOLD数据库中卷蛾科其他种类的种间差异约为7%~16%,远大于3%。该结果肯定了条形码技术能够成为口岸快速、准确鉴定苹浅褐卷蛾的有效方法。  相似文献

Numerous examples exist of successful mammalian invasive alien species (IAS) eradications from small islands (<10 km2), but few from more extensive areas. We review 15 large‐scale removals (mean area 2627 km2) from Northern Europe since 1900, including edible dormouse, muskrat, coypu, Himalayan porcupine, Pallas' and grey squirrels and American mink, each primarily based on daily checking of static traps. Objectives included true eradication or complete removal to a buffer zone, as distinct from other programmes that involved local control to limit damage or spread. Twelve eradication/removal programmes (80%) were successful. Cost increased with and was best predicted by area, while the cost per unit area decreased; the number of individual animals removed did not add significantly to the model. Doubling the area controlled reduced cost per unit area by 10%, but there was no evidence that cost effectiveness had increased through time. Compared with small islands, larger‐scale programmes followed similar patterns of effort in relation to area. However, they brought challenges when defining boundaries and consequent uncertainties around costs, the definition of their objectives, confirmation of success and different considerations for managing recolonisation. Novel technologies or increased use of volunteers may reduce costs. Rapid response to new incursions is recommended as best practice rather than large‐scale control to reduce the environmental, financial and welfare costs. © 2016 Crown copyright. Several laboratory and glasshouse experiments were conducted to assess seed germination, seedling establishment and growth patterns of wrinklegrass (Ischaemum rugosum Salisb.) influenced by temperature and light regimes, and chemical media. Wrinklegrass was a positively photoblastic species, and seed germination was temperature‐dependent and light‐mediated. Seeds soaked in distilled water for 24 h, or oven‐dried at the respective temperature regimes of 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, or 40°C prior to treatment in distilled water and incubated in darkness, failed to germinate. Likewise, no germination prevailed when the seeds were exposed to similar temperature regimes and treated with 0.2 m KNO3, 5% H2O2 or 0.01 m HNO3, and incubated under continuous darkness. Seeds treated with 5% H2O2 at 30°C, or oven‐dried and treated with 0.01% M HNO3 at 35°C registered 10 and 20% germination. Approximately 75 and 90% of the light‐exposed seeds for all treatments germinated in the first three and six days at 25°C. No germination occurred at 15°C in the first three days after treatment. Seeds subjected to 40°C for six days after treatment recorded 36% germination. The optimum temperatures for seed germination were 25–30°C. Seed drying and soaking treatments widened the windows of the optimal temperatures for wrinklegrass germination. The acidic media of KNO3, H2O2 or HNO3 favored seed germination. Less than 5% of seed germination occurred with burial or water inundation at depths exceeding 2 cm. Seed burial or inundation at ≥2 cm depths inhibited seed germination. Seeds sown onto moist paddy soils registered ca. 50% germination. Free‐floating seeds on the water surface registered ca. 98% germination within the first six days after seeding. The mean number of seedlings that survived was inversely proportional to water depths, with close to 100% mortality at the 14 cm depths of inundation. Both plant height and seedling survival were linearly proportional to the amount of root mass of seedlings which penetrated the soil. The weed was a prolific seed producer (ca. 6000 seeds/genet or 18 000 seeds/genet per year). The vegetative and reproductive efforts of each wrinklegrass plant registered values of 0.68 and 0.32, respectively.  相似文献

Mikania micrantha is a successful invasive weed in many parts of the world, but we do not know how its mating system may have contributed to this. Therefore, its mating system was studied in an open M. micrantha population during the flowering seasons of 2004 and 2005. Pollen/ovule ratio was determined and pollination treatments were applied on entire inflorescences to estimate the seed/ovule ratio. The pollen/ovule ratio of M. micrantha was 4008, and seed/ovule ratio was 0.56 for open pollination and 0.0034 and 0.0038 for wind pollination and selfing respectively. These data indicate that the weed is self‐incompatible and needs insect pollination.  相似文献

As a means of biologically controlling Mikania micrantha in South China, the influence of the native obligate parasite Cuscuta campestris on its natural community was studied in the field. Mikania micrantha is a non‐indigenous vine that smothers other vegetation and has become a major invader of agricultural land and native areas in Southern China. These preliminary results showed pronounced effects on M. micrantha by C. campestris. Cuscuta campestris significantly reduced biomass of M. micrantha, increased species diversity and helped re‐establishment of native species. Biomass of M. micrantha decreased from 328 g m?2 to 82 g m?2, biomass of companion species increased from 41 g m?2 to 145 g m?2, the total number of species increased from 7 to 19 and the species diversity index from 1.8 to 5.6, when C. campestris was present. These results indicated that the use of C. campestris could be a potentially effective way of controlling M. micrantha and could help us achieve the novel objective of biological control of weeds using weeds.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Drosophila suzukii is an oriental species first reported outside Asia from Hawaii in 1980. The first confirmed records for the continental United States were made in 2008 in California. The identification of this pest is difficult because very few published resources exist. RESULTS: It has since been recorded in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Utah, Michigan, Wisconsin, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Males are relatively easy to identify by the black apical wing spots and the single row of combs on the first and second tarsal segment of the fore leg. The male genitalia are also very characteristic and will aid in identifying teneral specimens. Females can be identified by the large ovipositor, which is 6–7 times as long as the diameter of the spermatheca. Immature stages can only be identified by molecular techniques. CONCLUSION: Although this species has been recorded from many US states and Canadian provinces, it has not been established in all of these places, and the main economic damage is restricted to the western part of North America. 在通辽市科尔沁区的固定沙地,半流动沙地采用相邻样方法观测光梗蒺藜草已萌发种子和未萌发种子在不同埋深中的分布,发现在固定沙地中,光梗蒺藜草种子分布在埋深较浅处(0~3cm),集中分布在0~1cm;在半流动沙地中,光梗蒺藜草种子分布较为分散,在1~15cm埋深处均有分布,在埋深0~5cm处种子数量较多。固定和半流动沙地中光梗蒺藜草种子随着埋深增加出苗率也随之增加,可达到100%。负二项式法和方差/均值比率(分布系数)法一致的验证了光梗蒺藜草苗和土壤种子库的种子种群分布格局为集群分布。光梗蒺藜草自然散布距离很短,是造成其种群集聚分布格局的原因。  相似文献

The establishment and spread of invasive plants are often associated with a ‘general‐purpose genotype’, with a corresponding high degree of phenotypic plasticity when introduced to a new environment. Evolutionary potential of invasive species following introduction should also be considered, however, as such changes can facilitate rapid range expansion. In this study, we utilised seed from three geographically distinct mid‐Atlantic populations of an invasive species, Microstegium vimineum (Japanese stiltgrass), to assess whether populations varied in their biomass and reproductive responses to light and nitrogen under neutral glasshouse conditions. To assess evolutionary adaptation, we quantified and correlated the abiotic environment from each collection location with the final biomass and seed production of that population under common glasshouse conditions. For M. vimineum, growth and reproductive responses to a common set of abiotic parameters (e.g. light) under these conditions indicated considerable phenotypic variation between and within populations. Interestingly, the degree of variation of seed production and final biomass among populations in the glasshouse was strongly correlated with growing season length and cumulative degree days recorded near each population location. These latter data indicated that M. vimineum, introduced into this region <100 years ago, may be undergoing adaptive evolution. Although additional populations of M. vimineum need to be examined, this study suggests that local evolutionary adaptation may be occurring rapidly and could, potentially, be an important aspect in the establishment and spread of this invasive species.  相似文献

Plant community structure responds strongly to anthropogenic disturbances, which greatly influence community stability. The changes in community structure, aboveground biomass(AGB), biodiversity and community stability associated with different management practices were studied with a three-year field investigation in a temperate steppe of Inner Mongolia, China. The species richness, Shannon-Wiener index, evenness, plant functional type abundance, AGB, temporal community stability, summed covariance, scaling coefficient and dominant species stability were compared among areas subjected to long-term reservation(R), long-term grazing(G), mowing since enclosure in 2008(M) and grazing enclosure since 2008(E). Site R had higher perennial grass abundance and lower species richness than sites G, M and E, although the AGB was not significantly different among the four sites. The species structure varied from a single dominant species at site R to multiple dominant species at sites G, M and E. The long-term reservation grassland had lower biodiversity but higher stability, whereas the enclosed grassland with/without mowing had higher biodiversity but lower stability. Different stability mechanisms, such as the compensatory dynamics, mean-variance scaling and dominant species stability were examined. Results showed that community stability was most closely related to the relative stability of the dominant species, which supports the biomass ratio hypothesis proposed by Grime.  相似文献
