summary After crossing partially resistant varieties some lines with a markedly higher resistance level were selected. This transgression for resistance indicates a polygenic inheritance of the resistance. On the most resistant F5 lines selected, oviposition was reduced by 50 to 60% and the economic damage threshold was reached 5 to 8 weeks later than in the susceptible control. The level of acceptance was not influenced by the selection. The selection of individual F2 plants was hampered by low heritabilities, whereas the heritabilities of F3- and subsequent line means were generally high enough. Selection for higher resistance levels was attended by an unintended increase in cucurbitacin content. This is explained by linkage of genes for resistance and bitterness rather than by identity of these genes.  相似文献

Summary The bitter cucumber variety Improved Long Green did not differ in resistance to the twospotted spider mite from its near isogenic non-bitter mutant, the source of all non-bitter varieties. Four pairs of near isogenic bitter and non-bitter varieties gave similar results. Therefore any causal relation between bitterness and resistance is denied.  相似文献

We have previously found an accession of Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium (Jusl.) Mill. (`TO-937') that appeared to resist attack by the two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch). L. pimpinellifolium is a very close relative of the cultivated tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) and thereby a potential source of desirable traits that could be introgressed to the crop species. The objective of this study was to investigate the genetics of the resistance present in `TO-937'. Resistance to infestation by the spider mite was quantified in 24-plant plots of L. pimpinellifolium accessions `TO-937' and `PE-10', L. pennellii accession `PE-45', L. esculentum cultivars `Moneymaker', `Roma' and `Kalohi' (reported to be partially resistant: Stoner & Stringfellow, 1967), and the interspecific F1 cross, L. esculentum `Moneymaker' × L. pimpinellifolium `TO-937'. Only `TO-937', the F1, and`PE-45' were found to be resistant. Resistance of `TO-937' was complete when evaluated in two small greenhouses completely planted with `TO-937' so as to simulate the genotypic homogeneity usual in commercial crops. Generations (P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1P1, and BC1P2) of a P1 (susceptible) × P2 (resistant) cross (`Moneymaker' × `TO-937') were studied for resistance in a single-plant per plot design. Resistance of `TO-937' was inherited with complete dominance and appeared to be controlled by either two or four genes according to whether segregation in the F2 or the BC1P1, respectively, were considered. However, calculation of the number of genes involved in the resistance was complicated by negative interplot interference due to the high frequency of resistant genotypes within most of the generations. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary For several generations subpopulations of the twospotted spider mite were reared on cucumber varieties previously selected as partially resistant. Subsequently resistance tests were carried out in the laboratory and the glasshouse with mites from these subpopulations and concurrently with mites from a basic population reared on a susceptible cucumber line. In these tests neither acceptance nor net reproduction or damage index on the partially resistant varieties depended on the kind of mite populations used as inoculum. Therefore it is concluded that the resistance is genuine. The stability of the resistance is discussed.  相似文献

Summary The relationship between the twospotted spider mite and cucumber has been studied on plants and on leaf disks of a number of varieties with different levels of resistance. Existing laboratory tests are critically discussed and it appears that they are only reliable if many factors are taken into account. A new, more efficient laboratory test for resistance, measuring acceptance and reproduction is described.  相似文献

Summary After a first screening of 800 cucumber varieties, a laboratory test and a practical test, the following nine varieties have been selected for their distinguishable level of resistance to the twospotted spider mite: PI 220860, Hybrid Long Green Pickle, PI 178885, Ohio MR 200, Taipei no 1, Robin 50, Aodai, PI 163222 and PI 218036. Besides resistance tolerance for the twospotted spider mite also appears to occur. Related Cucumis species do not seem to possess higher levels of resistance than the most resistant C. sativus varieties. The resistance-parameters acceptance and reproduction appear to be positively correlated. On resistant varieties the metabolism of the spider mites is clearly disturbed, but this seems not to be caused mainly by bitter principles.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of resistance to coffee berry disease (CBD) has been studied by applying a preselection test to F2 progenies of a half diallel cross between 11 coffee varieties with different degrees of resistance and to sets of parental, F1, F2, B11 and B12 generations of crosses between resistant and susceptible varieties. True resistance to CBD appears to be controlled by major genes on three different loci. The highly resistant variety Rume Sudan carries the dominant R- and the recessive K-genes. The non-allelic interaction between these two genes is of a duplicate nature. The R-locus has multiple alleles with R 1R1alleles present in Rume Sudan and the somewhat less effective R 2R2alleles in a variety like Pretoria, which also has the K-gene. The moderately resistant variety K7 carries only the recessive K-gene. The arabica-like variety Hibrido de Timor (a natural interspecific arabica x robusta hybrid) carries one gene for CBD resistance on the T-locus with intermediate gene action. It probably inherited this gene from its robusta parent. There is circumstantial evidence that the resistance to CBD is of a stable nature, but it is advisable to accumulate in one genotype as many resistance genes as possible by combining in the breeding programme the resistance of Rume Sudan with that of Hibrido de Timor.  相似文献

Summary Crossability and cytology were examined in F1, F2, B1 and hybridsplants of F1 hybrids of Brassica campestris and three wild relatives of B. oleracea, B. bourgeaui, B. cretica and B. montana, respectively. The F2 plants were obtained after self-and open pollination of the F1 hybrids. The B1 and hybrid plants were produced after the F1 hybrids backcrosses with B. campestris and crossed with B. napus, respectively. After crossing the F1 hybrids, many seeds of the F2, B1 and hybrid plants were harvested. Multivalent formation was high in the chromsome configuration for the PMCs of F2, B1 and hybrid plants, suggesting that crossing over might occur between them. Many different types of aneuploids were obtained in the progenies of the F2, B1 and hybrid plants. It is suggested that different types of normal egg cells may be produced by one-by-one or little-by-little chromosome addition. The possibility is discussed of gene transfer from B. bourgeaui, B. cretica and B. montana, to cultivated plants, B. campestris and B. napus.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of resistance to tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV) was studied in the progenies derived from interspecific crosses between TLCV resistant Lycopersicon hirsutum f. glabratum line B 6013 and five susceptible cultivars (HS 101, HS 102, HS 110, Pusa Ruby and Punjab Chhuhara) of L. esculentum. P1, P2, F1, F2, B1 and B2 progenies of the five crosses were artificially inoculated with local strains of TLCV by means of the vector whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.). and the disease reaction was studied in all the crosses. Reaction of parents, F1, F2 and backcrosses suggests that resistance derived from L. hirsutum f. glabratum B 6013 is based on two epistatic genes, one from the wild parent and one from the cultivated one, resulting in a 13:3 segragation in the F2.  相似文献

Parents and their F1 and F2 progenies were evaluated for density of type IV glandular trichomes and resistance to Tetranychus urticae Koch during three stages of the plant growth. Results indicated significant differences between density of type IV glandular trichomes on F1 and F2 populations at different sampling times. As age of plant increased, density of type IV glandular trichomes and resistance to two-spotted spider mite increased. Density of type IV glandular trichomes on F2 individuals showed a broad range of variability (0–42 trichomes/mm2). The estimated heritability was very high (>85%) for damage score and density of type IV glandular trichomes at different sampling times. Acylsugars content in Lycopersicon pennellii ‘‘LA2963’’ was more than two-folds high than those found in L. esculentum ‘‘Nandi’’, F1 and F2 populations, indicating that recessive gene(s) are responsible for the high acylsugar contents in L. pennellii ‘‘LA2963’’.  相似文献

Summary Sterile interspecific hybrids and colchicine-induced amphiploids of Zinnia elegans Jacq. and Z. angustifolia HBK were examined to determine the mode of inheritance of resistance to Erysiphe cichoracearum DC ex Merat. Fertility was restored through colchicine treatment of two sterile hybrids of species reciprocal parentage which differed in ray petal response to the pathogen. Derived amphiploids were subsequently intercrossed to overcome the lack of segregation for this trait due to genetic control of pairing upon chromosome doubling. Resistance to E. cichoracearum appears to be complexly inherited in both leaves and ray florets of sterile hybrids and induced amphiploids. Two major dominant genes have been implicated in conferring resistance in ray petal tissue of derived amphiploids. Data obtained from the F1 hybrid progeny of the intercrossed amphiploids indicate that this trait is not cytoplasmically inherited. It is speculated that the genes conferring resistance in the ray florets are acting independently from those controlling leaf resistance and that most, if not all, of the resistance genes are inherited from Z. angustifolia.Scientific Article No. A-3825, Contribution No. 6804 of the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station.  相似文献

Summary The first backcross and F2 progenies from triploid F1 and tetraploid F1 hybrids between B. napus and 2x and 4x B. oleracea ssp. capitata (cabbage) were studied for their general morphology, resistance to race 2 of the clubroot pathogen, chromosome number and meiotic chromosome behavior. No linkage was apparent between resistance and the major morphological characters. Unreduced gametes played a large part in the successful formation of seed of the B1 and F2 progeny. B1 plants with low chromosome numbers were selected for use in recurrent backcrosses. The potential use of anther culture to extract gametic progenies from resistant B1 and F2 plants with higher chromosome numbers was suggested. The presence of homoeologous pairing observed in all the plants is considered advantageous for selecting suitable progeny in later generations.  相似文献

Summary Seven single-plant selections of wild emmer, with temperature-sensitive minor-effect genes for stripe rust resistance, were intercrossed in eight combinations. The resulting progenies were studied for a possible additive gene action. The transgressive segregation towards resistance in F2 observed in all the combinations indicates that additive gene action for resistance indeed occurs in wild emmer. The common occurrence of this phenomenon in random combinations suggests further that several minor-effect genes are involved.Following selection of the most resistant plants in F2, a marked shift towards resistance was noted in F3, which demonstrates a positive response to selection. In some instances, additive resistance selected for (in F2) at the high temperature-profile was expressed (in F3) also at the low temperature-profile. This kind of resistance, when utilized in breeding programmes, promises therefore to be effective over a range of temperatures.  相似文献

Summary The resistance sources among various test cultivars of urdbean to Colletotrichum truncatum, a leaf spotting pathogen, were identified and genetics of resistance was worked out by studying F1, F2 and F3 generations of crosses between resistant cultivars and the susceptible cv. Kulu 4 and of those among the resistant parents. The resistance was found to be controlled by single dominant genes and the resistance genes were non-allelic.  相似文献

Summary Inheritance of aphid resistance and allelic relationships among sources of resistance was studied in the parents, F1, F2, F3, and backcross populations of cowpea crosses. Each 4-day old seedling was infested with five fourthinstar aphids. Seedling reaction was recorded 14–16 days after infestation when the susceptible check was killed. The segregation data from eight crosses between resistant and susceptible cowpea cultivars indicated that aphid resistance was inherited as a monogenic dominant trait. Segregation data from crosses among eight resistant cultivars indicated that one or two loci and modifier(s) were involved in the expression of resistance to aphids. It was suggested that further studies on allelism among sources of resistance needed to be conducted in order to resolve this.  相似文献

Summary Resistance to fusarium wilt, incited by Fusarium oxysporum (Schlecht.) f. sp. lycopersici (Sacc.) Snyder & Hansen race 3 in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) was discovered in LA 716, a L. pennellii accession. A resistant BC1F3 breeding line, E427, was developed from LA 716. E427 was crossed with the susceptible cv. Suncoast and F1, BCP1, BCP2 (to Fla 7155, a susceptible parent) F2, F3, and BCP2S1 seeds were obtained. Segregation for resistance following root dip inoculation over three experiments indicated a single dominant gene controlled resistance. Five of the 12 BCP1S1's segregated more susceptible plants, whereas one of the 12 segregated more resistant plants than expected (P<0.05). Three of 23 F3 lines segregated more susceptible plants than expected while 1 of the 23 had more resistant plants than expected (P<0.05). Segregation in all other lines fit expected ratios. Five of the 23 F3's were homozygous resistant which was an acceptable fit to expectations (P=0.1–0.5). The gene symbol I 3 is proposed for resistance to race 3 of the wilt pathogen. Deviations from expected ratios in data reported here and for other breeding lines indicate an effect of modifier genes and/or incomplete penetrance. Plant age at inoculation and seed dormancy did not affect results.Florida Agricultural Experiment Station Journal Series No. 8101.  相似文献

Summary Leaflets from 11 L. esculentum x L. hirsutum F2 individuals were bioassayed with spider mites (Tetranychus urticae). Densities of Type I, Type III, Type IV, Type V, and Type VI trichomes and the intensity of red fluorescence of the Type VI trichome tip varied widely among the 11 F2 hybrids. Mite responses were analyzed in relation to these trichome characters and leaflet surface. Variation in Type IV density accounted for most of the variation in mite responses. Densities of Type I, V and VI trichomes also contributed to mite responses but their effects were obscured by high Type IV densities. Type VI tip fluorescence was not associated with responses of mites in bioassays of these hybrids. The investigation reported in the paper (84-10-123) is in connection with a project of the Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station and is published with the approval of the Director. Summary Male meiosis of the interspecific hybrid between Allium roylei and A. cepa is undisturbed relative to its parents. Based on meiotic data, A. roylei is concluded to be a closer relative of A. cepa than A. fistulosum. Segregation ratios for downy mildew resistance among BC1 and F2 progenies from the F1 between A. roylei and A. cepa indicate the presence of two dominantly inherited, weakly linked nuclear resistance genes, Pd 1 and Pd 2, in A. roylei (recombination frequency 0.32±0.03). Presumably Pd 1 and Pd 2are the first genes described in Allium residing in one linkage group. The prospects of exploiting A. roylei in onion breeding seem very promising.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of field resistance to downy mildew in lettuce derived from cv. Grand Rapids was studied in F2, F3 and F4 progeny from a cross with the more susceptible cv. Lobjoits Green Cos. The results for 32 randomly produced F3 families and the F2 population corresponded closely although the absolute level of resistance varied from season to season according to disease pressure and environmental conditions. The field resistance character showed a quantitative pattern of inheritance but the rapid response to selection at F3 implied that only a few genes may be involved. F4 families raised from families selected from the two extremes of the F3 distribution fell into distinct categories with resistance levels corresponding to that of their F3 parents. An association between resistance and morphological features of the resistant parent was present at F2 but not in subsequent generations when individuals and families which were as resistant as cv. Grand Rapids and yet bore little morphological resemblance to this cultivar were readily recovered.  相似文献

Summary Effects of resistance genes and heat tolerance genes on expression of resistance to bacterial wilt caused by Pseudomonas solanacearum were investigated in 30 F1 progenies from parents with different levels of bacterial wilt resistance and heat tolerance. A race 1 and a race 3 isolate of the bacterium were used for inoculation under screenhouse conditions at two locations. Results obtained indicated that with reduction in levels of parental resistance, resistance in the F1 progenies was also reduced. Under hot conditions, a reduced heat tolerance in the genetic background also resulted in lower levels of resistance expression. The effect of heat tolerance tended to diminish at lower temperatures leaving the effect of resistance genes more consistent. There existed a strong interaction between resistance genes and genes for heat tolerance. The nature of resistance to bacterial wilt in potato and implications for breeding for resistance are discussed.Effects of reciprocal crosses on expression of resistance to a race 1 isolate under hot screenhouse conditions, were studied in 5 sets of reciprocal F1 progenies involving different resistant and susceptible parents. The reciprocal differences observed were not significant suggesting absence of cytoplasmic effects on expression of resistance.  相似文献
