Thirty-three boars with sexual dysfunctions and twenty-six boars clinically sound as to their reproductive capacity were evaluated for the testosterone levels in the blood plasma before i.v. administration of 500 i.u. of chorionic gonadotropin and two hours after the administration. A group of animals with reproduction disorders comprised boars with an impaired quality of ejaculate and low fertility ability (18 boars) and with sexual dysfunctions (15 boars). No statistically significant difference in the basal concentration of testosterone in the blood was found in the boars with the studied sexual dysfunctions, as compared with the boars with no sexual dysfunctions. Administration of chorionic gonadotropin increased significantly the plasma testosterone levels in both groups. If the effect of chorionic gonadotropin on the studied level of this hormone was compared in boars with sexual dysfunctions and in boars without any disorders, no significant differences were proved. It has been inferred from the above findings that there are no significant disorders of androgen supply and incretion reserve of the gonads in the boars with sexual dysfunctions.  相似文献

In intact boars, intravenous administration of 100 to 6000 I. U. chorionic gonadotropin elicited a pronounced rise in the plasma level of testosterone, depending on the time interval from the administration of chorionic gonadotropin and on the size of the administered dose. In the blood of castrated boars such an application of choronic gonadotropin did not influence the concentration of testosterone. It was inferred that the rise in the levels of blood testosterone in boars after administration of chorionic gonadotropin was specific for testicular incretion and indicated the endocrine reserve of the testes. There is a discussion concerning the importance of the functional testing of the incretion capacity of testes for differential diagnosis different forms o incretion hypogonadism.  相似文献

Genetic parameters for testosterone production in boars   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Data were collected in 1982 through 1989 from 66 sires and 358 Duroc boars. Testosterone production was measured from peripheral blood samples before (PRE) and after (POST) GnRH challenge. Additionally, data were collected on testes length at 168 d (TL168), testes width at 168 d (TW168), testes volume at 168 d (TVOL), birth weight (BWT), average daily gain (ADG), days to 104 kg (DAYS104), and backfat adjusted to 104 kg (FAT). Overall means for these traits were 24.6 ng.ml-1.h-1, 75.7 ng.ml-1.h-1, 12.3 cm, 11.6 cm, 422.0 cm3, 1.5 kg, .5 kg, 189.3 d, and 18.5 mm, respectively. Son-sire regressions were used to calculate genetic parameters. Heritabilities for PRE, POST, TL168, TW168, TVOL, BWT, ADG, DAYS104, and FAT were .37, .26, .33, .34, .33, .21, .42, .35, and 0, respectively. Moderately favorable genetic correlations were obtained for PRE and POST with growth measurements. Large positive genetic correlations were present for both PRE and POST with TL168, TW168, and TVOL, and testes measurements had large positive genetic correlations with growth traits. Selection for testes size or testosterone production should be equally effective. However, it seems that selection for testes size would result in larger changes in measures of growth than selection for testosterone. This study suggests that testes measurements are good predictors of both basal and challenge testosterone levels. Selection for increased testis size or increased testosterone levels would be expected to enhance growth.  相似文献

Background

The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of the Improvac on testosterone concentration in blood serum, sexual behavior and sperm quality in matured AI boars. A total of nine Danish Landrace AI boars were included in the analysis.

Methods

The trial period lasted for 15 weeks and was divided into four periods: Control period: three weeks before vaccination; Period I – four weeks after first vaccination; Period II – four weeks after second vaccination, Period III – four weeks after third vaccination. Blood and sperm samples were collected at weekly intervals. Freshly collected sperm samples were analyzed.

Results

Testosterone concentration correlated with libido (r = 0.531; p < 0.001), volume of ejaculate (r = 0.324; p < 0.001) and the percentage of morphologically normal spermatozoa (r = 0.207; p < 0.05). Testosterone concentration rised significantly (p < 0.05) in 5–6 week of trial, e. i. after the first dose of Improvac and after this peak the level of testosterone further progressively decreased (p < 0.05).

Conclusions

Results from this study indicate that active immunization of sexually matured boars against GnRH has negative impact on testosterone concentration, sexual behavior, volume of ejaculate and total number of normal spermatozoa in ejaculate.  相似文献

Bilateral orchidectomy caused a marked decrease in the concentration of testosterone in the bood plasma of boars already in the early post-castration stage of three hours after the operation. In the period from 3 to 207 days after castration, the pre-operation levels of plasma testosterone decrease by 84.4%, on an average. Adreno-cortical compensation of the concentration of the hormone did not occur in the post-castration period. The conclusion is that the levels of testosterone in the blood of boars are mostly of testicular origin and can be considered as the main criterion of the incretion function of the testes. The discussion concerns the practical importance of the determination of testosterone levels in the blood of boars for clinical evaluation of the hormonal function of the testes and for diagnostics of incretion hypogonodism.  相似文献

The levels of oestradiol-17 beta (E2) in the blood plasma were evaluated in 15 boars exhibiting signs of sexual potency disorders and in 20 boars with no such disorders before and after i. v. administration of chorion gonadotropin (HCG). No significant difference (P greater than 0.05) was found in the E2 levels in the blood plasma of the boars of the two groups before HCG administration. Two hours after the i. v. injection of 500 I. U. of HCG, an insignificant increase in the basal levels of E2 was recorded, reaching on the average 28.9% in the boars with potency disorders and 38.8% in those with no potency changes. Neither were there any significant differences in the E2 levels determined after HCG treatment between the boars with and without sexual potency disorders. It is inferred from the results that deviations in E2 concentration in the blood obviously do not contribute significantly to disorders in the sexual potency of boars.  相似文献

The effects of stress induced by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) on biochemical and immune changes in Swedish Landrace boars aged approximately 6-7 months were observed during ACTH administration and for 16 days after the cessation of treatment. Adrenocorticotropic hormone treated animals (n = 7) were given intravenously 10 microg/kg body mass of ACTH for 3 days. Control group of animals (n = 7) received intramuscularly 1 ml of sterile 0.9% saline. Total protein and globulin levels were significantly elevated during the induced stress period and for the next 16 days (P < 0.01 to P < 0.0001, respectively). Also, serum immunoglobulin IgG concentration was significantly elevated during and after ACTH injection (P < 0.001 to P < 0.0001). Adrenocorticotropic hormone treatment had no effect on serum albumin, IgA and IgM concentrations. Glucose concentration was significantly decreased on the second day of ACTH administration (P < 0.001) and on day 9 after treatment (P < 0.001). Calcium level was significantly decreased only for 24 h after the last ACTH dosage (P < 0.01). Also, serum phosphorus level was significantly decreased on the first (P < 0.05) and third (P < 0.001) days of ACTH challenge but remained unaffected after the cessation of ACTH treatment. It is concluded that the administration of ACTH to boars results in immune humoral and biochemical changes during stress and the post-stress period.  相似文献

In two sexually mature boars subjected to bilateral vasectomy the content of testosterone was followed in the semen and blood plasma prior to the operation and in the course of 26 days after the operation. In the third boar only the operation without actual vasectomy as the control was made to eliminate the possible effect of narcosis and of the surgical stress. Bilateral vasectomy induced an average decrease in the initial levels of testosterone in the semen plasma of the first and second animal by 63.24% and 47.67% respectively, and 47.17% and 56.46% respectively in the blood plasma. In the control boar no analogous post-operation drop of testosterone concentration in the semen plasma was observed, the content of testosterone in the blood plasma decreased over the followed period on an average only by 14.38%. The results imply that bilateral vasectomy in boars results, in the first followed month after the surgical procedure, in a decrease of semen and plasma testosterone, which proves that the operation under investigation affects testicular incretion.  相似文献

Background: Density gradient centrifugation was reported as a technique of semen preparation in assisted reproductive techniques in humans and animals. This technique was found to be efficient in improving semen quality after harmful techniques such as cryopreservation. Recently a modified technique, single layer centrifugation,was proposed as a technique providing a large amount of high quality spermatozoa, and this treatment was performed before conservation. Single layer centrifugation has been studied prevalently in stallions and in boars,but limited data were available for bulls. Occasionally bulls are known to experience a transient reduction in semen quality, thus techniques that allow improvement in semen quality could be applied in this context. The aim of this study was the evaluation of single layer and double layer centrifugation by the use of iodixanol, compared with conventional centrifugation and non-centrifuged semen, on the sperm characteristics during the cryopreservation process in bulls with normal and poor semen quality.Results: Single layer centrifugation and double layer centrifugation both significantly increased the percentage of normal spermatozoa and decreased the percentage of non-sperm cells in poor quality samples, while both were ineffective in those of normal quality. Sperm characteristics in poor quality samples increased after single layer centrifugation and double layer centrifugation, reaching values similar to those recorded in normal samples, and this trend is maintained after equilibration and after cryopreservation. On the other hand, SLC and DLC resulted in a consistent reduction in the spermatozoa recovered, and this resulted in a reduction of the absolute amount of spermatozoa cryopreserved in the normal samples, without a clear improvement in sperm characteristics in this type of sample.Conclusions: These data suggested that both SLC and DLC could be performed in practice, but their application should be limited to the cases in which the quality of the spermatozoa recovered is more important than the total amount of spermatozoa.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to assess parameters of sexual behavior, seminal characteristics, testicular measurements, and their correlations in Piau boars. A total of 169 observations of the sexual behavior and prelude duration (courting) of 10 Piau boars aged from 0.8 to 6.4 years were made; semen was also collected from these animals. The testicular length (TL), testicular width (TW), testicular shape (TS; 1-5), and testicular volume (TV) of these animals were measured. The seminal physical and morphological characteristics of 60 ejaculates from 6 boars were assessed for volume of ejaculate (VOL), volume of the gelatinous portion (VOLGEL), aspect (ASP), sperm motility (MOT), spermatic vigor (VIG), spermatic concentration per milliliter (CONCML), total concentration (CONCT), and morphological characteristics (major defects [MAJDEF]; minor defects [MINDEF]; and total defects [TDEF]). The animals were subdivided into 3 age groups: G1 (0.8-2.0 years old), G2 (2.1-3.6 years old), and G3 (3.7 and 6.4 years olds). The physiological signs observed included duration of prelude (12.1 ± 4.1 minutes), time to collect semen (5.2 ± 1.8 minutes), nasonasal or genital contact behavior (71.6%), saliva emission (85.2%), urination during prelude (10.1%), penile exposure before collection (26.6%), flank stimulus (81.7%), chewing behavior (95.3%), and biting of the female or dummy (74.6%). The mean values of TL, TW, and TV were 11.8 ± 2.2 cm, 6.2 ± 1.3 cm and 754.1 ± 283.5 cm3, respectively. The older animals had the highest mean values of testicular measurements (P < 0.05) but the lowest mean values of CONCML and CONCT (P < 0.05). All the animals presented similar patterns of ejaculates (P > 0.05); the mean values of VOL, VOLGEL, MOT, VIG, and CONCT were 149.1 ± 51.1 mL, 29.7 ± 10.0 g, 76.2% ± 9.5%, 3.3 ± 0.5, and 29.4 ± 19.5 × 109 total sperm in the ejaculate, respectively. The prevalence rates of defects were 5.9% ± 2.6% for MAJDEF, 10.2% ± 4.0% for MINDEF, and 16.2% ± 5.5% for TDEF; all animals were classified as being sound for breeding. The assessed characteristics were similar to those observed in swine of commercial lineages and within the standards established by the Brazilian College of Animal Reproduction for the species.  相似文献

Sperm morphology and the fertilizing capacity of ejaculated spermatozoa were examined in 6 Swedish Landrace boars before and after heat stress. The boars were exposed to 35° C during 100 h in a climatic room. Fertility was measured by insemination of gilts before and at various times after heat stress. Each gilt (n = 44) was inseminated with a total of 5×109 spermatozoa diluted to 10O ml with EDTA-glucose diluent and fertilization was assessed by examining recovered ova 2 days after insemination.Changes in semen quality varied among the boars from a very weak response in 2 boars to pronounced semen alterations occurring 2–6 weeks after heat stress in the other boars. A close relationship was found between seminal changes and fertilization rates, all ejaculates which had high fertilization rates being of the same quality as the pre-exposure ejaculates. The ejaculates that had poor fertility were characterized by lowered sperm motility and increased numbers of spermatozoa with abnormal heads, proximal cytoplasmic droplets and nuclear pouch formations.  相似文献

The elimination of testosterone and androstendion in the urine was tested in six sexually mature boars. The administration of chorionic gonadotropin to intact animals resulted in a marked, statistically significant, rise of the amounts of excreted testosterone and, in part of the cases, androstendion. The responses were individual. Bilateral orchidectomy caused a statistically highly significant decrease of the elimination of both steroids under study without pronounced adrenocortical compensation. The administration of the adrenocorticotropic hormone to castrated boars did not exert any significant influence on the excretion of the substances studied. The use of chorionic gonadotropin given to the castrated boars did not produce any significant changes in the elimination of hormones. It has been inferred that testosterone as well as androstendion in the urine of boars are almost exclusively of testicular origin and that the response of the values of both steroids to the administration of chorionic gonadotropin is specific after testicular incretion. The discussion concerns the importance of these findings for the evaluation of the incretion reserve of the testes and for the diagnosis of incretion hypogonadism in boars.  相似文献

为了研究品种不同的种公猪的精液品质之间存在的差异,本试验通过对长白、大白、杜洛克等3个品种的成年种公猪的精液品质进行统计学方法分析和比较。结果显示:长白公猪的精子活率最好(75.03%),然后依次是大白(71.62%)、杜洛克(70.36%),长白与大白及杜洛克之间差异显著(P<0.05),但大白与杜洛克之间差异不显著(P>0.05);长白种公猪的精液量(337.60mL)与大白(380.00mL)之间差异不显著(P>0.05),但均与杜洛克(251.74mL)之间差异显著(P<0.05)。三个品种精子活率由高到低依次为长白、大白、杜洛克;平均精液量大小依次为大白、长白、杜洛克,综合评价,长白猪的精液品质最好。  相似文献

The levels were assessed of testosterone in the blood plasma before and 90 minutes after i.v. application of 1 mg of synthetic LH-releasing hormone to 57 boars with disorders of sexual functions and to 43 boars without sexual dysfunctions. The group of animals with sexual disorders included boars with inferior ejaculate quality and low fertility (24 animals) and cases with disturbed sexual potency (33 boars). In animals with the studied changes of sexual functions, compared with boars without sexual dysfunctions, no statistically significant difference was found in the basal concentration of testosterone in the blood. LH-releasing hormone application increased significantly the testosterone levels in the group of boars without sexual disorders by 99.5% on an average and in the whole group of animals with changes in sexual functions approximately by only 65.8%. At the same time in the subgroup of inferior ejaculate quality and low fertility the post-application increase of testicular incretion reached 60.4% and in potency disorders 61.6% and was statistically insignificant in the latter. On the basis of these findings it was derived that in boars with reproduction deviations there existed a decreased incretion reserve of the system hypophysis - testicle and the involvement of this factor in the formation of the studied sexual disorders is assumed. The obtained results are discussed in view of the earlier findings about the incretion reserve of the testicles in boars with changes in sexual functions.  相似文献

In experiments with young fattening boars, implanted at 50 kg with either oestradiol 17 beta (34 mg) (O group) or oestradiol 17 beta + testosterone (20 + 200 mg) (TO group) and fed the same amount of a protein rich diet, there was not any favourable effect on growth rate, feed conversion efficiency, carcass composition and protein retention, as calculated by carcass analysis of slaughter weight pigs and 50 kg live weight pigs. There were no differences in serum steroid concentrations between control and implanted boars, but there were differences in macroscopic and histological aspects of the gonads, which were significant between control and TO groups. These results were confirmed by the suppression in both treated groups of the androstenone concentration in backfat samples, steroid which is responsible for the sexual odour of the meat of boars.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of a preparation from herbal extracts (PHE) on libido and semen quality in breeding artificial insemination boars. Ten fertile boars were divided into control and experimental groups according to significant difference of libido. There were no differences in semen quality between groups. Animals were fed a commercial feeding mixture for boars. The feeding mixture for the experimental group was enriched with PHE, which was prepared from Eurycoma longifolia, Tribulus terrestris and Leuzea carthamoides. Duration of the experiment was 10 weeks. Samples of ejaculate were collected weekly. Libido was evaluated according to a scale of 0-5 points. Semen volume, sperm motility, percentage of viable spermatozoa, sperm concentration, morphologically abnormal spermatozoa, daily sperm production and sperm survival were assessed. Amounts of mineral components and free amino acids were analysed in seminal plasma. Significant differences were found in these parameters: libido (4.05 ± 0.22 vs 3.48 ± 0.78; p < 0.001), semen volume (331.75 ± 61.91 vs 263.13 ± 87.17 g; p < 0.001), sperm concentration (386.25 ± 107.95 vs 487.25 ± 165.50 × 10(3) /mm(3); p < 0.01), morphologically abnormal spermatozoa (15.94 ± 11.08 vs 20.88 ± 9.19%; p < 0.001) and Mg concentration (28.36 ± 11.59 vs 20.27 ± 13.93 mm; p < 0.05). The experimental group's libido was increased by 20% in comparison with the beginning of the experiment. Results of this study showed positive effect of PHE on libido and some parameters of boar semen quality.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different concentrations of glutathione in Modena on boar sperm quality during liquid storage at 17°C. Boar semen samples were collected and diluted with Modena containing different concentrations (0, 1, 5, 10, 15 mmol/L) of glutathione. Sperm motility, effective survival period, plasma membrane integrity, acrosome integrity, total antioxidant capacity (T‐AOC) activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) content and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) content were measured and analyzed. The results showed that Modena supplemented with 1, 5 and 10 mmol/L glutathione improved sperm motility, effective survival period, plasma membrane integrity and T‐AOC, and decreased MDA content and H2O2 content. Meanwhile, the semen sample diluted with Modena containing 1 mmol/L glutathione achieved optimum effect, and effective survival period was 6.1 days. After 5 days preservation, sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity and T‐AOC of the group treated with 1 mmol/L glutathione were all higher than that of other groups. Meanwhile, MDA content and H2O2 content were lower than that of other groups. In conclusion, Modena supplemented with glutathione decreased the oxidative stress and improved the quality of boar semen during liquid storage at 17°C, and 1 mmol/L concentration was the optimum concentration. © 2016 Japanese Society of Animal Science  相似文献

The objective of this study was to characterize correlated responses in testicular morphology and daily sperm production to divergent selection for testosterone production. Duroc boars from high and low lines (HTL and LTL, respectively) divergently selected over 10 generations for testosterone production in response to a GnRH challenge followed by random selection were used. Testicular tissues were sampled from all available males of generation 20 (HTL, n = 46; and LTL, n = 13). Volume densities for Leydig cells, seminiferous tubules, and Sertoli cells were estimated along with sperm production. The HTL boars had greater volume densities of Leydig cells than did LTL (P < 0.01). Volume density of seminiferous tubules tended to differ between lines (P < 0.07), but Sertoli cell volume densities did not differ (P < 0.27). Sperm production traits, adjusted for age, did not differ significantly between lines. Body, testicular, and epididymal weights were recorded for boars from HTL (n = 82) and LTL (n = 44) from generations 20 and 21. After adjustment for BW, average paired testicular weights for HTL and LTL were 417 and 457 g (P < 0.01), respectively. Epididymal weights, adjusted for BW, were heavier for HTL (P < 0.01) than for LTL. To demonstrate that the selection lines still differed for testosterone production, lines were evaluated in generation 21. Endogenous testosterone production of the HTL (n = 54) and LTL (n = 44) testosterone production line averaged 49.0 ng/mL and 27.8 ng/mL (P < 0.01), respectively. Plasma FSH concentrations did not differ between lines (P < 0.30). Selection for testosterone production in response to a GnRH challenge was an effective method of changing testosterone concentrations, testicular size, epididymal weight, and volume density of Leydig cells. However, daily sperm production per gram of testes was unchanged. Based on the results of this study, selection for testosterone production is not recommended as a method of increasing sperm production in pigs.  相似文献

Seven sexually mature boars were studied in two-hour intervals for 8 to 32 hours, as to the variation of testosterone levels in the blood plasma. Blood samples were obtained by means of a cannula inserted in the v. cava cranialis. The hormone level under study showed marked fluctuation. The coefficient of variation of testosterone concentration ranged from 12.7% to 35.2% in the individual animals and for the whole part of the study it was 33.0%. It appeared impossible to derive seriously any regular periodicity of testosterone concentration in boar blood in the 24-hour period from the analysis of the variation of the levels of the hormone in individual animals during the period under study. Further, the study revealed a marked fluctuation of testosterone levels in the blood plasma of twelve sexually mature boars in the course of several days' study. The coefficient of variation of testosterone concentration in individual animals ranged from 18.1% to 106.5%, reaching 77.0% for the whole part of study. The analysis of variance showed statistically significant differences of hormonal levels in individual boars in which the fluctuation of testosterone was studied in the 8- to 32-hour period as well as in several days' period. This proved the role of the animals' individuality in determining the concentration of testosterone in their blood. The discussion concerns the importance of these findings for the evaluation of the role of basal testosterone levels in the blood in classifying the incretion function of the gonads and in the diagnosis of incretion hypogonadism of boars.  相似文献
