Six banana varieties: 3 ‘dessert’ ones: ‘IDN 110’; ‘Kirun’; and ‘Grande Naine’, and 3 ‘cooking’ ones: ‘Galéo’; ‘Sowmuk’; and ‘French’ were used to investigate the relationship between sugar profiles and activities of sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS, EC 2.4.1.14), sucrose synthase (SuSy, EC 2.4.1.13) working in the hydrolytic way, invertases (EC 3.2.1.26) (neutral (NIV) and acid (AIV)). Expression of a Musa cell-wall invertase (MaCwINV1/pBANUU103) gene was additionally studied during fruit development and ripening ex planta after ethylene treatment of two of these varieties. Close amounts of soluble sugars (sucrose + glucose + fructose) were measured in the different varieties at ripe stage. SPS activity was either almost constant or increased continuously or transitorily during ripening of all varieties, concomitantly to total soluble sugar (sucrose + glucose + fructose) accumulation. Together with previous data obtained from ‘Cavendish’, our data lead us, (i) to strengthen the hypothesis that this enzyme is likely to have a major role in the synthesis of sucrose during ripening of banana and (ii) to underline the complexity of the mode of SPS activity regulation already pointed out. Interestingly, for the first time in banana, two diploid and cooking varieties: ‘Galéo’ and ‘Sowmuk’ were found almost sucrose-free, in good agreement with a 6.4-fold higher mostly vacuolar AIV activity than that of the two desserts and diploid ones. Otherwise, expression of a MaCwINV1/pBANUU103 (cell wall) gene was followed in the two most contrasted varieties in matter of sucrose content: ‘Sowmuk’ almost sucrose-free, and ‘IDN 110’ accumulating high level of sucrose. Compared to ‘IDN110’, the mRNA level of MaCwINV1/pBANUU103 gene was higher (up to 173-fold) in ‘Sowmuk’ concomitantly with the low level of sucrose of ‘Sowmuk’. Our data let us to conclude that the AIV is probably one of the main determinants involved in the regulation of sucrose level during banana fruit ripening, even if the form, vacuolar or cell wall-linked is not determined yet. Otherwise, the MaCwINV1/pBANUU103 gene appears as a putative candidate gene that could contribute to regulate this level.  相似文献

Somatic hybridization provides an alternative for transferring mitochondria-encoded cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS). Herein, symmetric protoplast electrofusion was conducted between embryogenic callus protoplasts of Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Guoqing No. 1 (G1), a CMS cultivar, and mesophyll-derived protoplasts of seedy ‘Page’ tangelo [C. reticulata Blanco × (C. reticulata Blanco × C. paradisi Macf.)] or ‘Nova’ tangelo [C. reticulata Blanco × (C. reticulata Blanco × C. paradisi Macf.)], to transfer CMS trait. Flow cytometry analysis showed that 14 plants recovered from G1 + ‘Page’ tangelo that displayed typical morphological character of ‘Page’ were diploid, and 6 plants regenerated from G1 + ‘Nova’ tangelo were tetraploid. Genetic compositions of regenerated plants from the two fusions were determined by SSR, CAPS and chloroplast-SSR analysis. Cybrid nature of diploids from G1 + ‘Page’ tangelo with nuclear DNA from ‘Page’, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from the G1 and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) derived from either parent was confirmed. Tetraploid plants from G1 + ‘Nova’ tangelo were identified as somatic hybrids with random cpDNA inheritance. The regenerated cybrid and hybrid plants hold great potential for Citrus seedless breeding at diploid or triploid levels.  相似文献

Lilium Oriental is of great commercial value, but large losses in production can result from its susceptibility to diseases caused by Fusarium ssp. Here we report a mutant of Lilium Oriental resistant to Fusarium, Cai-74, which was generated from crossing tetraploid (from ‘Star fighter’) and diploid (‘Cor. Amore’ × ‘Acapulco’) plants. Hybrid progeny were screened via inoculating Fusarium oxysporum into tissue cultured plantlets in a greenhouse. Although Cai-74 had a saponin content of 3.81 mg g−1, which is much higher than its parents, the highly Fusarium-resistant wild species Lilium dauricum had the highest content of 4.11 mg g−1 among the tested genotypes. Cai-74 had a 3A karyotype rather than 3B found in normal plants of Lilium Oriental. Taken together, our results suggest that Cai-74 bears a chromosomal variation in its structure, and that the saponin content in the lily scales correlate with the Fusarium resistance of Lilium Oriental. Cai-74 could be used as a gene resource for breeding Fusarium-resistant cultivars of Lilium Oriental.  相似文献

Asiatic citrus canker (ACC), caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis Starr & Garces pv. citri (Hasse) Vauterin et al., and citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC), caused by Xylella fastidiosa Wells et al., are considered the main diseases affecting sweet orange scion varieties in Brazil. Among commercial varieties, mandarins and tangerines are recognized as tolerant to these pathogens. We report herein the production of ‘Hamlin’ sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) + ‘Montenegrina’ mandarin (Citrus deliciosa Ten.) allotetraploid somatic hybrid plants by protoplast fusion with improved disease tolerance that could be used as a donor of resistance genes in interploid hybridisation. Somatic hybridisation was confirmed by leaf morphology, flow cytometry and RAPD analyses. The somatic hybrid was propagated by grafting and cultivated in a screenhouse for tolerance assays. For X. axonopodis pv. citri assays, buds were collected from both ‘Hamlin’ sweet orange and the somatic hybrid and grafted onto ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin (Citrus reshni hort. ex Tanaka). As a negative control, buds from ‘Mexerica Tardia’ mandarin (C. deliciosa) were collected and grafted onto ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin. Two-month old plants with at least one young vegetative flush were individually spray-inoculated with a 106 CFU mL−1X. axonopodis pv. citri suspension and incubated in a growth chamber, at 27 °C, under 16-h photoperiod. The somatic hybrid showed a statistically significant reduction in susceptibility to ACC 30 days after inoculation. Compared to ‘Hamlin’ sweet orange, disease severity was reduced by 70%, with similar tolerance to that of the mandarin negative control. For X. fastidiosa assays, buds were collected from the somatic hybrid and its parental plants and grafted onto ‘Rangpur’ lime (Citrus limonia Osbeck). The developed plants were needle-inoculated with a X. fastidiosa suspension (8.7 × 1010 CFU mL−1) into the new growth flush stem. Bacterial population was quantified both at 4 (at the inoculation point) and 8 months (50 cm above the inoculation point) after inoculation. The first evaluation detected X. fastidiosa in 63% of ‘Hamlin’ sweet orange and ‘Hamlin’ + ‘Montenegrina’ mandarin samples. In the second evaluation, X. fastidiosa was detected in 47.4% of ‘Hamlin’ sweet orange and 10.5% of ‘Hamlin’ + ‘Montenegrina’ somatic hybrid samples, suggesting that bacterial movement was restricted in the somatic hybrid. X. fastidiosa was not detected in both evaluations in samples collected from leaves of ‘Montenegrina’ mandarin. These results indicate that the ‘Hamlin’ sweet orange + ‘Montenegrina’ mandarin somatic hybrid has potential for improved disease tolerance that should enhance its value regarding future use in citrus breeding programs.  相似文献

Fusarium wilt caused by the fungus, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense is a major factor limiting commercial banana production in Malaysia. Field evaluation of banana plants for Fusarium wilt disease has not been effective as the infection period is slow and other variables such as distribution of inoculum concentration is difficult to control. Therefore, a study was carried out to develop a semi-qualitative bioassay for early and rapid susceptibility tests against Fusarium wilt disease in banana plantlets. The induction of sporulation and germination of Foc race 1 (VCG 01217) were firstly determined. Then, the effect of inoculum density of fungal spores on the magnitude of infection in Pisang Rastali (AAB) plantlets was carried out. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and other enzyme activities such as phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), chitinase, glucanase, peroxidase (PER) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) in infected roots of banana plants were determined to relate to the levels of tolerance or susceptibility to Fusarium wilt disease. Using similar conditions, transgenic Pisang Rastali (AAB) was tested to investigate the effectiveness of this bioassay. Hydrogen peroxide and phenylalanine ammonia lyase is the most sensitive compound and enzyme detectable after inoculated with Fusarium spores. The chitinase, β-1,3-glucanases, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase enzymes activity of transgenic plants were higher than untransformed plantlets. The results obtained indicate that the use of these biochemical parameters has the potential to predict the levels of tolerance or susceptibility to Fusarium wilt disease in other banana cultivars.  相似文献

Despite its outstanding position, the Brazilian citriculture is established on a very limited pool of varieties that limits its expansion and restricts the fruit availability throughout the year. This situation determines the urgent necessity of developing alternative scion and rootstock cultivars, with good performance under local conditions. ‘Folha Murcha’ sweet orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) is a late-harvest cultivar, suitable both for the juice processing industry and the fresh fruit market, being described as tolerant to citrus canker (Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri Schaad et al.), and less affected by citrus variegated chlorosis (Xylella fastidiosa Wells et al.). A study was conducted in Bebedouro, São Paulo State, Brazil, to evaluate the horticultural performance of ‘Folha Murcha’ sweet orange budded onto 12 rootstocks: the citrandarin ‘Changsha’ mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) × Poncirus trifoliata ‘English Small’; the hybrid ‘Rangpur’ lime (Citrus limonia Osbeck) × ‘Swingle’ citrumelo (P. trifoliata (L.) Raf. × Citrus paradisi Macfad.); the trifoliates (P. trifoliata (L.) Raf.) ‘Rubidoux’, ‘FCAV’, and ‘Flying Dragon’ (P. trifoliata var. monstrosa); the ‘Sun Chu Sha Kat’ mandarin (C. reticulata Blanco); the ‘Sunki’ mandarin (Citrus sunki (Hayata) Hort. ex. Tanaka); the ‘Rangpur’ limes (C. limonia Osbeck) ‘Cravo Limeira’ and ‘Cravo FCAV’; ‘Carrizo’ citrange (C. sinensis × P. trifoliata), ‘Swingle’ citrumelo (P. trifoliata × C. paradisi), and ‘Orlando’ tangelo (C. paradisi × Citrus tangerina cv. ‘Dancy’). The experimental grove was planted in 2001, using a 7 m × 4 m spacing, in a randomized block design, with five replications and two plants per plot. No supplementary irrigation was applied. Fruit yield, canopy volume, tree tolerance to drought and to citrus variegated chlorosis, and fruit quality were assessed for each rootstock. Trees grafted onto the ‘Flying Dragon’ trifoliate were smaller in size, but had largest yield efficiency when compared to those grafted onto other rootstocks. Lower alternate bearing index was observed on trees budded onto ‘Cravo FCAV’ ‘Rangpur’ lime. Both ‘Rangpur’ lime rootstocks and the ‘Sunki’ mandarin induced higher tree tolerance to drought. The ‘Flying Dragon’ trifoliate induced better fruit quality and higher tolerance to citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC) to ‘Folha Murcha’ trees. A cluster multivariate analysis identified three groups of rootstocks with similar effects on ‘Folha Murcha’ tree performance. Among the 12 evaluated rootstocks, the ‘Flying Dragon’ trifoliate has a unique effect on plant growth, tolerance to drought and CVC, fruit yield and fruit quality of ‘Folha Murcha’ trees, and may be better suited for high-density plantings.  相似文献

An apple orchard consisting of a single cultivar under the condition of natural pollination must have suitable pollinizers such as Crab apples to ensure stable fruit production. We selected ‘Maypole’ and ‘Dolgo’ as pollinizers for the cultivar ‘Fuji’, and investigated the rate of fruit and seeds in ‘Fuji’ fruits produced by pollen of the pollinizers. We developed a method for tracing pollen flow based on the leaf color of progeny and S-RNase allele of ‘Maypole’, and on Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) analyses of ‘Maypole’ and ‘Dolgo’. These were powerful tools for determining the distance insects (mainly Osmia cornifrons) carry pollen from the pollinizers to ‘Fuji’. Although the fruit set of ‘Fuji’ apples was not reduced with increasing distance between ‘Fuji’ apple trees and pollinizers (probably due to pollen flow from other commercial cultivars planted outside the area), the rate of ‘Fuji’ apple fruit produced by the pollen of the pollinizers decreased with increasing distance. The rate of fruit produced by the pollinizers was 84% and 77% when ‘Fuji’ was 2.5 m from ‘Maypole’ and ‘Dolgo’, respectively, and 71% and 64% when ‘Fuji’ was 5 m from ‘Maypole’ and ‘Dolgo’, respectively, but was reduced to 47% and 39% when ‘Fuji’ was 10 m from ‘Maypole’ and ‘Dolgo’, respectively. However, the spacing could cause reduced fruit size, and require extra fruit thinning for producing large fruits. It could also cause reduction of the yield for increasing the planting area of pollinizers. We recommend that pollinizers should be planted not more than 10 m from ‘Fuji’.  相似文献

The citriculture in Brazil, as well as in other important regions in the world, is based on very few mandarin cultivars. This fact leads to a short harvest period and higher prices for off-season fruit. The ‘Okitsu’ Satsuma (Citrus unshiu Marc.) is among the earliest ripening mandarin cultivars, and it is considered to be tolerant to citrus canker (Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri Schaad et al.) and to citrus variegated chlorosis (Xylella fastidiosa Wells et al.). Despite having regular fruit quality under hot climate conditions, the early fruit maturation and absence of seeds of ‘Okitsu’ fruits are well suited for the local market in the summer (December through March), when the availability of citrus fruits for fresh consumption is limited. Yet, only a few studies have been conducted in Brazil on rootstocks for ‘Okitsu’. Consequently, a field trial was carried out in Bebedouro, São Paulo State, to evaluate the horticultural performance of ‘Okitsu’ Satsuma mandarin budded onto 12 rootstocks: the citrandarin ‘Changsha’ mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) × Poncirus trifoliata ‘English Small’; the hybrid Rangpur lime (Citrus limonia Osbeck) × ‘Swingle’ citrumelo (P. trifoliata (L.) The ‘Cravo Limeira’ and ‘Cravo FCAV’ Rangpur limes induced early-ripening of fruits, with low fruit quality. ‘Sun Chu Sha Kat’ and ‘Sunki’ mandarins and the ‘Orlando’ tangelo conferred lower yield efficiency and less content of soluble solids for the latter rootstock.  相似文献

Somatic hybridization is a biotechnology tool that can be used in citrus breeding programs to produce somatic hybrids with the complete genetic combination of both parents. The goal of this work was to test the reaction of citrus somatic hybrids that may be useful as rootstocks to trunk and root infections caused by Phytophthora nicotianae van Breda de Haan (P. parasitica Dastur) and to citrus tristeza virus (CTV). The somatic hybrids evaluated were ‘Caipira’ sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) + ‘Rangpur’ lime (C. limonia Osbeck), ‘Caipira’ sweet orange + ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin (C. reshni hort. ex Tanaka), ‘Caipira’ sweet orange + ‘Volkamer’ lemon (C. volkameriana V. Ten. & Pasq.), ‘Caipira’ sweet orange + rough lemon (C. jambhiri Lush.), ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin + sour orange (C. aurantium L.), ‘Rangpur’ lime + ‘Sunki’ mandarin (C. sunki (Hayata) hort. ex Tanaka), ‘Ruby Blood’ sweet orange (C. sinensis L. Osbeck) + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, ‘Rohde Red’ sweet orange (C. sinensis L. Osbeck) + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, and ‘Valencia’ sweet orange + Fortunella obovata hort. ex Tanaka. For P. nicotianae trunk and root infection assays, plants of the somatic hybrids, obtained from 9-month semi-hardwood cuttings, were evaluated and compared with diploid citrus rootstock cultivars after mycelia inoculation in the trunk or spore infestation in the substrate, respectively. ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin + sour orange, ‘Rangpur’ lime + ‘Sunki’ mandarin, ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, ‘Ruby Blood’ sweet orange + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, ‘Rohde Red’ sweet orange + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, and ‘Caipira’ sweet orange + ‘Volkamer’ lemon had less trunk rot occurrence, whereas the somatic hybrids ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin + sour orange, ‘Caipira’ sweet orange + ‘Volkamer’ lemon, and ‘Caipira’ sweet orange + ‘Rangpur’ lime were tolerant to root rot. For CTV assays, plants of the somatic hybrids along with tolerant and intolerant rootstocks were budded with a mild strain CTV-infected or healthy ‘Valencia’ sweet orange budwood. Differences in average scion shoot length indicated that the hybrids ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin + sour orange and ‘Valencia’ sweet orange + Fortunella obovata were intolerant to CTV.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cultivars and in-row spacing on vegetative growth and yield components in melon (Cucumis melo L.). The cultivars ‘Early Dawn’ (ED), ‘Superstar’ (SS) and ‘Medoro’ (ME) were grown in rows 1.5 m apart at plant spacing 0.6, 0.9, 1.2 or 1.5 m. Cultivars ED and SS were grown in 1998 and 1999, while ED and ME were tested in 2000. The main vine length, diameter, number of leaves and lateral branches were highest at 1.5 m in-row spacing in 1999 and 2000, while there was no influence of plant spacing on observed growth parameters in 1998. ED performed better compared with other two varieties, mostly due to more fruit per ha and per plant. Yield was significantly decreased with increased plant spacing in all 3 years of research. At in-row spacing of 1.5 m yield was in average 25% lower than at 0.6 m spacing. Average fruit weight slightly increased with plant spacing up to 1.2 m, even though the differences were significant only in 1999. Small differences among cultivars were also found. Number of fruit per ha decreased linearly while number of fruit per plant increased linearly as plant spacing increased in all cultivars except SS in 1999.  相似文献

The interactive effects of temperature, girdling, and leaf shading treatments on the total soluble solids (TSS) content and coloration of ‘Aki Queen’ (Vitis labruscana) grapes were investigated. The TSS contents of berries were significantly higher in girdled plants than in plants with shaded leaves. Anthocyanin accumulation was greater at lower temperature (21 ± 2 °C) than at higher temperature (31 ± 2 °C) in both control and girdled plants, but anthocyanins did not accumulate in plants with shaded leaves at either temperature. Temperature did not influence TSS content. These results suggest that a high enough TSS content promotes anthocyanin synthesis under low temperature during maturation of ‘Aki Queen’ grape.  相似文献

 以4 份田间抗性水平不同的苦瓜为材料,探讨了适用于苦瓜苗期人工接种枯萎病菌的抗性 鉴定方法;以此为基础,对来自国内外的43 份苦瓜种质资源进行了抗源筛选,以其中的抗病亲本‘0417’ 和感病亲本‘472113’为材料,研究了苦瓜对枯萎病抗性的遗传规律。结果表明,直接水培接种法是较适 合于苦瓜苗期枯萎病抗性鉴定的方法,适宜的接种菌液孢子浓度为4 × 106 · mL-1。在苦瓜种质资源中,枯 萎病抗源普遍存在,尤以野生种或半栽培种抗病性较强。苦瓜枯萎病抗性受单一显性核基因控制,其广 义遗传力为90.78%。  相似文献

Covering apple orchards with nets protects them from hailstorms but this changes the amount and quality of the light supplied to the trees. This study was carried out to assess the effects of shade provided by white protection net on yield and fruit quality of apple orchards in Southern Brazil, along three growing seasons (2002/2003, 2003/2004, and 2004/2005). ‘Gala’ and ‘Fuji’ apple trees (on MM111 rootstock, raised as slender spindles, with a spacing of 5.5 m × 3 m) were left uncovered (control trees) or covered with white net. The white net reduced the photosynthetically active radiation (λ = 400–700 nm) accumulated over the trees’ canopy along a day by 18.4%, leading to a higher leaf chlorophyll content in both cultivars, and a higher specific leaf area in ‘Gala’. The shade provided by the net did not affect yield and increased fruit average weight in both cultivars. At harvest, the number of seeds per fruit and severity of russet were not affected by netting in both cultivars, as well as the incidence of watercore in ‘Fuji’. The main beneficial effects of the white net were the reduced incidence of sunburn on ‘Gala’, reduced incidence of bitter pit during cold storage in both cultivars, and reduced incidence of apple scab at harvest and of decay after cold storage in ‘Fuji’. Fruit fly damage in ‘Gala’ (assessed in one season) was reduced by netting. However, netting affected negatively some fruit quality attributes. ‘Gala’ and ‘Fuji’ apples from trees protected by the net had a poor skin color (pale blush and a more intense green background color) at harvest. The net reduced flesh firmness and SSC, and increased the starch index of ‘Gala’ apples at harvest, and reduced flesh firmness and SSC, assessed after cold storage and shelf life, in fruits of both cultivars.  相似文献

Changes in membrane lipid composition are important in the acclimation of plants. The influence of four day/night growing temperature combinations (18/12, 25/12, 25/22, and 30/22 °C) on membrane lipids of ‘Earliglow’ and ‘Kent’ strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) were studied. The monogalactosyl diglyceride (MGDG) and digalactosyl diglyceride (DGDG) were the major galactolipids in the strawberry leaves. ‘Earliglow’ contained a higher amount of galactolipids in the leaves than ‘Kent’. The major phospholipids in the strawberry leaves, roots, and fruit were phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). PC and PE were the two predominant phospholipids in the strawberry. The leaves and fruit of ‘Earliglow’ contained higher amounts of phospholipids compared to those of ‘Kent’, whereas ‘Kent’ strawberry roots had higher phospholipids. Palmitic (C16:0), stearic (C18:0), oleic (C18:1), linoleic (C18:2), and α-linolenic (C18:3) acids were major fatty acids in galacto- and phospholipids of the ‘Earliglow’ and ‘Kent’ strawberry. PC is very rich in linolenic acid in leaves compared to the fruit and root tissues. PC had the highest ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids among all phospholipids. There was a significant increase in the content of galactolipids (MGDG, DGDG) and phospholipids (PC, PI, PG and PE) and unsaturation of their fatty acids in the cool day/night growth temperature. Increasing day/night growth temperatures decreased MGDG/DGDG ratios. The shifts in saturation and composition of fatty acids observed with strawberry may be an adaptation response of plants to the temperature changes.  相似文献

Many cool season garden crops, including Viola × wittrockiana Gams. (pansy), exhibit reduced flowering outdoors during the warm summer months. Twelve pansy cultivars varying in summer garden performance were grown under either 20 ± 1.5 or 30 ± 1 °C (air temperature) to determine growth and flowering responses to prolonged high-temperature exposure and to identify selection criteria to screen pansies for flowering heat tolerance. Increasing temperature from 20 to 30 °C increased leaf number below the first flower on ‘Crystal Bowl Primrose’ and ‘Skyline White’ only. Flower bud number reduction at 30 °C versus 20 °C varied from 20% for ‘Crystal Bowl Purple’ to 77% for ‘Majestic Giants Red and Yellow’. Flower diameter reduction at 30 °C versus 20 °C ranged from 14% for ‘Skyline Beaconsfield’ to 44% for ‘Super Majestic Giants Ocean’. The percentage reduction in total color (flower number × estimated flower area) ranged from 60% for ‘Crystal Bowl Primrose’ to 88% for ‘Majestic Giants Rose Shades’. Based on a weighted base selection index, ‘Super Majestic Giants Canary’ and ‘Delta Yellow’ were identified as the most heat-tolerant cultivars, while ‘Super Majestic Giants Ocean’ and ‘Majestic Giants Rose Shades’ were identified as the most heat-sensitive. In a second experiment, root and shoot dry mass were determined after 10, 20, or 30 d when grown at 20 or 30 °C. Relative growth rate and root:shoot ratio were also calculated. After 30 d, ‘Crystal Bowl Primrose’, ‘Crystal Bowl Sky Blue’ and ‘Skyline White’ relative growth rates were lower at 30 °C versus 20 °C. Root:shoot ratio on day 30 was lower at 30 °C compared to 20 °C for six cultivars, but similar across temperature for five cultivars and higher for ‘Crystal Bowl Primrose’. Flower bud number at first flower was positively correlated with branch number, shoot dry mass at flowering, but not correlated with root dry mass at flowering, and negatively correlated with flower diameter and root:shoot ratio (either at flowering, or after 10, 20 or 30 d at 30 °C), suggesting that these traits may be useful when screening pansies for flowering heat tolerance.  相似文献

Ipomoea aquatica Forsskal is a fast-growing aquatic economic plant and has been applied widely to purify eutrophic water, but little is known about the edible safety of it for humans or animals. The main purpose of our research was to assess the metal (copper, zinc, lead, cadmium and chromium) concentration and nutritional quality in the edible part of I. aquatica Forsskal (‘Chunbai’ and ‘Liulv’) growing in eutrophic water. The results showed that all levels of these metals were within the acceptable levels in our present studies, and the metal accumulating potential varied mainly depending upon levels of metal contamination in the water body in which they were growing. In the present investigation, nitrate content (NO3–N) had no significant differences between ‘Chunbai’ and ‘Liulv’, but had significant differences (p < 0.001) between eutrophic water and Hoagland nutrient solution. Soluble protein, soluble sugar, and vitamin C content were affected greatly by variety and solution (treatments). The soluble protein and vitamin C content in ‘Liulv’ were one time higher but the soluble sugar content was one time lower than that in ‘Chunbai.’ The soluble protein and soluble sugar of plants cultivated in nutrient solutions were one time lower than that in eutrophic water. In addition, the vitamin C content of plants grown in Hoagland nutrient solution was approximately two times higher than that in eutrophic water. The possible utilization of these aquatic vegetables to meet the demands of food and health perspectives for consumers is discussed.  相似文献

The effects of night interruption (NI) were examined on the vegetative growth and flowering of Cymbidium ‘Red Fire’ and ‘Yokihi’. Plants were grown under 9/15 h ambient light/dark (control), 9 h ambient light plus night interruption (22:00–02:00 h) with low light intensity at 3–7 μmol m−2 s−1 (LNI) and 9 h ambient light plus NI with high light intensity at 120 μmol m−2 s−1 (HNI) conditions. The number of leaves, leaf length, number of pseudobulbs and pseudobulb diameter increased in both LNI and HNI compared to controls for both cultivars. While none of the control plants flowered within 2 years, 100% of the ‘Yokihi’ and 80% of the ‘Red Fire’ plants grown under HNI condition flowered. In the LNI group, 60% of the plants flowered in both cultivars. Plants in the HNI group showed a decreased time to visible inflorescence and flowering than those in the LNI group. The number of inflorescences and florets were greater in the plants grown under HNI than those in the LNI group. The tallest plants at flowering were in the HNI group in both cultivars. NI with low light intensity can be used effectively to promote flower induction with increased growth rate during the juvenile stage in Cymbidium. To obtain high quality plants, however, NI with high light intensity strategies should be considered.  相似文献

Crop load can influence fruit quality in several horticultural species. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of different concentrations of calcium on crop quality traits in three short-day strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) cultivars (‘Ventana’, ‘Camarosa’ and ‘Candonga’) and to assess the relationships between crop load and quality parameters. The studies were conducted using a hydroponic system in a greenhouse. Calcium was added as Ca(NO3)2 at 2 mM, 3 mM, 4 mM and 5 mM. A completely randomized block design (4 Ca concentrations × 3 cultivars) with three replicates was used. Each replicate consisted of 12 plants grown in polyethylene bags (100 cm × 18 cm × 3 cm) filled with coconut peat. Titratable acidity, total soluble solids and firmness were measured throughout the experimental period. Calcium application had no effect on fruit quality attributes but the genotype effect was clear. At the end of the experiment (28th May, 2008), titratable acidity was positively related to the fresh weight of above-ground biomass and number of leaves respectively in the ‘Ventana’ and ‘Camarosa’ cultivars. Higher values of total soluble solids were found at low crop load in ‘Ventana’ but in ‘Camarosa’ this relation was not found. In ‘Candonga’, higher total soluble solids were linked to crop load. In ‘Ventana’, titratable acidity significantly decreased as crop load increased, and in ‘Camarosa’ high values of titratable acidity were found at different values of crop load. ‘Ventana’ seemed to be more sensitive to the effects of crop load patterns. Genotype was an important factor in determining fruit quality parameters.  相似文献

To determine the effect of light intensity on flower greening, the Japanese hydrangea phyllody (JHP) phytoplasma-infected hydrangea cultivars ‘Midori’, ‘Libelle’, ‘Rosea’ and ‘Madame E. Mouillere’ plants were grown under different shade conditions. In the first-year experiment, the results indicate that the flowers of the JHP-phytoplasma-infected hydrangea become green under shaded conditions (70% and 49% sunlight intensities). On the other hand, under full sunlight intensity (100% sunlight intensity), the flowers of ‘Midori’, ‘Rosea’, and ‘Libelle’ plants were blue, pink or white. To calculate the percentage of flower greening, inflorescences of these plants were separated and divided into individual flowers, and classified into four types by green-area ratio, calculated using Adobe Photoshop. Under shading with one sheet of cheesecloth (70% sunlight intensity), the inflorescences of ‘Midori’, ‘Libelle’ and ‘Madame E. Mouillere’ plants were composed of more than 40% completely green flowers (0.8 ≦ green-area ratio), whereas those of ‘Rosea’ plant had 0% completely green flowers. Under shading with two sheets of cheesecloth (49% sunlight intensity), the inflorescences of ‘Midori’, ‘Libelle’ and ‘Madame E. Mouillere’ plants had more than 75% completely green flowers; ‘Rosea’ plants had 28%. In the second-year experiment, under full sunlight intensity, ‘Midori’ plants had four types of flower depending on their green-area ratio, namely, completely blue or pink, pink-green, greenish and completely green flowers. Under shading with two sheets of cheesecloth, ‘Midori’ plants had more than 90% completely green flowers. The JHP-phytoplasma could not be identified by PCR analysis in flowers with a green-area ratio = 0 (completely blue/pink/white flowers). On the other hand, in flowers with a green-area ratio > 0, the JHP-phytoplasma was detected by PCR analysis. Thus, we conclude that shading enhances flower greening in hydrangea by increasing the JHP-phytoplasma concentration in the flowers.  相似文献

‘Swingle’ citrumelo [Citrus paradisi MacFaden × Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.] has been extensively used as a rootstock in several citrus growing regions of the World, including Southern Brazil where ‘Rangpur’ lime (Citrus limonia Osbeck) is still the predominant variety despite being affected by several important pathogens. In this case, ‘Swingle’ citrumelo is used to produce nursery trees to establish new orchards or to be inarched in adult and healthy groves in order to change the rootstock. We report herein a system to produce trees on ‘Swingle’ citrumelo more rapidly by budding onto non-rooted cuttings, as well as assessing potential to rapidly multiply ‘Swingle’ through rooting of non-budded cuttings. Therefore, two potential products are described: budded trees and rooted rootstock cuttings. ‘Valencia’ sweet orange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] was budded at different heights on cuttings derived from eight-month old rootstocks. Grafted and additional non-budded cuttings were then treated with indole-3-butyric acid (500 mg L−1) or left untreated before rooting. Three types of cuttings were evaluated: softwood, semi-hardwood and hardwood. The use of nursery trees derived from pre-budded hardwood cuttings of ‘Swingle’ citrumelo is an alternative grafting method on this cultivar. Softwood cuttings with one leaf pair were considered the most adequate material for rapid multiplication of ‘Swingle’ citrumelo by cutting. This could be particularly useful for inarching production or conventional budding after transplant of cutting-derived rootstocks.  相似文献
