Four alternative functions are used for fitting tree height and diameter growth models for mongolian oak. (Quercus mongolica Fisch. et Turcz.). The data set includes 1250 random trees and 755 dominant trees coming from 510 temporary plots. The resultsshow that the Richards function is the best model for predicting height. diameter at breast height (DBH) and dominant height from age. The average growth curve of dominant height is used as a guide curve for the construction of a site index table which is partially validated using an independent data set. Using historical growth series data of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in Central Europe we examine all the dynamic site equations previously used for modeling the height growth of this species as well as a new dynamic site equation that has not been used previously in the context of this forestry data. The tested models included two groups of anamorphic and polymorphic dynamic site equations (three-dimensional site–height–age models, such as Y = f(t,t0,y0)). One group of the models is based on the algebraic difference approach (ADA) implementation of different, preexisting base equations (two-dimensional equations, such as Y = f(t)). The other group of models is based on newer generalized algebraic difference approach (GADA) formulations of new site–height–age relationships that may use older models only as a part of their structure. The models were selected because they were relevant to Scots pine height growth modeling in other studies. We compared all the models with each other in terms of the sum of square deviations associated with fitting them simultaneously to all sites represented by the Scots pine data. All the fits were based on base-age invariant stochastic regressions, in which the global model parameters that are common to all growth series are estimated simultaneously with the site-specific effects that are different for each of the site productivity series. Determination of site quality is a basic tool for proper selection of locations and species, in management of forest plantations.Throughout the Caribbean studies of site quality are few and are hampered by statistical limitations, inappropriate growth models, and limited data. We fitted growth curves for dominant height to evaluate and classify site quality of teak (Tectona grandis) plantations by using data from 44 permanent sample plots established since 1990 in 3 22 years old teak plantations in the Colombian Caribbean region. We used Korf’s and von Bertalanffy’s models to fit curves as nonlinear effects models. Both models, with a single random parameter, were considered as adequate for dominant height growth modelling, but Korf’s model was superior. There sulting curves were anamorphic and closely reflected high variability insite quality. Five site classes were clarified: at a base age of 12 years old,teak reached a mean dominant height of 24.8 m on the best sites, 9.8 m inthe worst sites, and in the averages sites, 15.8-18.8 m. Using this model,we identified the best and the worst sites for teak plantations in the Caribbean region. This model proved a useful tool, not only for site quality evaluation, but also for improved teak plantation planning and management.  相似文献

This study aimed to improve knowledge about the nutritional status, site requirements and site classification for European ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) and sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) by reinvestigating young plantations from 1991/1992 on windfall-affected areas in Bavaria/Germany after another decade. Compared to the first survey in 1995, most stands improved their nutritional status until 2006. With the data set of element concentrations in leaves of ash and sycamore available, the range of adequate nutrition could be determined for these species in the pole stage phase. Both species show considerable height growth on a wide range of sites. Mean annual height growth of dominant sycamore trees increased with rising foliar N or P concentrations but not for Ca, Mg, K, Mn, Fe and Al. For ash, there was no relationship between the foliar nutrient level of any element and mean annual height growth. However, total height around age 20 was favourably influenced by high base saturation and a good water supply at well-drained sites. On acid soils, where nutrients are delivered by subsurface water flow, well-growing stands are found as well. Soil water status according to the state forest soil classification had no significant impact on mean annual height growth. Ash and sycamore show reduced productivity on some (moderately) dry soils and fail on poorly drained moist sites. Based on these results, the classification of forest sites suitable for ash and sycamore within the Bavarian study sites was revised. A model for predicting dominant height growth and site index of Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco in Spain was constructed. Data from stem analysis of 117 site trees were used. Four dynamic equations using the algebraic difference approach (ADA) and its generalisation (GADA), which have provided good results in previous studies, were evaluated. The model parameters were estimated with the base?age?invariant method of dummy variables, which considers both global (common to all sites) and local parameters (specific to each site). A GADA equation based on the Bertalanffy–Richards base model yielded the best results. The model provides polymorphic curves with multiple asymptotes. A base age of 20 years is proposed to reference site index.  相似文献

Digital terrain modeling was used to evaluate landscape-level spatial variation of soil C and N storage and site productivity in Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) stands. Soil C and N storage were measured in samples from surface soils (0–25 cm depth) of 29 Japanese cedar stands in the 205-ha Myougodani watershed, Toyama Prefecture. The site index (C. japonica tree height at age 40 years) was used as a measure of forest productivity. Seven terrain attributes (elevation, slope gradient, aspect, profile curvature, plan curvature, openness, and wetness index) were calculated from a digital elevation model. Soil C and N storage were negatively correlated with slope gradient and positively correlated with openness. Variation in the site index was closely related to the wetness index. The prediction models using terrain attributes as explanatory variables explained 50% of the variability in soil C storage, 53% of the variability in soil N storage, and 75% of the variability in site index. This result demonstrated that this technique is useful for estimating the spatial distribution of soil properties and productivity in forest landscapes. On the other hand, there was no correlation between site index and soil C and N storage. Use of the prediction models in a geographic information system revealed that the spatial distribution of forest productivity differed considerably from those of soil C and N storage.  相似文献

We constructed sugi site index models using digital-terrain-analysis-based environmental factors for Miyazaki Prefecture. We selected 18 sugi plantation stands which were pure, undisturbed, and over 40 years old, planted with the same sugi-cutting cultivar, and managed by normal forest operations. The dominant tree in each stand was felled for stem analysis. Site index, defined here as dominant tree height at 40 years old, was estimated by stem analysis for each stand. Five types of DEMs were used: 100- and 50-m resolution derived from DEMs published by the Geographical Survey Institute, and 50-, 25-, and 12.5-m resolution derived from digital contour map manually generated from a 1:25,000 topographic map. A total of 14 indices categorized into solar radiation index, wetness index, and topographic exposure index were used to model the site index by multiple linear regression analysis. Through model selection procedures, the best-fitted site index models were selected for each type of DEM. The most precise model was that of the 12.5-m-resolution DEM (R 2 = 0.692), following the model of the published 50-m-resolution DEM (R 2 = 0.665). Site productivity of sugi was severely limited by direct solar radiation. Soil wetness also affected sugi site productivity; however, it can only be represented using a high-resolution DEM derived from fine-scale data. Our results suggest that the 50-m-resolution DEM published by the Geographical Survey Institute can be used for site index modeling.  相似文献

Pinus brutia Ten. subspecies brutia, which occurs in the Eastern Mediterranean region, is the main forest species in Syria and important for multi-purpose forestry. In this study, 6,631 10-year past growth diameter increment measurements were taken in 83 temporary sample plots. The current breast height diameter of all trees was measured and a sample of trees was measured for height and age. The plots were placed so as to capture the whole range of variation in site quality, stand age and stand density. The data were used to develop the following models:

To develop a site-index system, stem analyses data were employed, portraying 70 dominant and codominant trees growing on even-aged Abies chephalonica stands in the Mount Taygetos forest in southern Greece. Two different models were considered for the development of site-index curves: King's height/age model using the parameter prediction method for fitting site-index curves and a difference equation model. The difference model performed better, in terms of the overall appearance of the final site-index curves, at a wide range of ages. Based on the results, it was decided to adopt a difference model for the development of a site-index system for A. chephalonica stands in the Mount Taygetos forest. Breast-height age and mean height of dominant and codominant trees are the entry attributes in the site-index system in order to have a site index (height at base age, Ao=50 yrs) of a single tree or stand.  相似文献

This study was conducted to develop a height–age growth model and site index curves for site quality evaluation of old secondary-growth stands of Pinus kesiya in the northern Philippines. The Chapman-Richards growth function was used in the guide curve method to generate anamorphic site index curves for this species. In order to evaluate the developed model, coefficient of determination (R 2 ), root mean square error (RMSE), bias (ē), absolute mean difference (AMD) and mean percent bias (MPB) were used as statistical criteria. The Chapman-Richards model explained about 96.84% of the total variation of the dominant height. The value of ē was ?0.004 m, AMD was 2.566 m, MPB was 3.88% and RMSE was 3.331. The site index curves developed as a result of this study are significant for forest managers in predicting the growth patterns and classification of site productivities for Pinus kesiya stands.  相似文献

Site quality of larch (Larix gmelinii Rupr.) in Da Xingan Mountain in Inner Mongolia was studied systematically with about 1000 temporary plots and computer software. The nature of site class and site index curve was discussed in view of general mathematical model of height growth. The height growth of dominant tree of four divisions of forest stands were studied and site index tables were constructed respectively. In order to unify the comparing standard and convenience for management in this region, site index table was constucted too. Based on discussing the action and accuracy of forest type, a series of site quality evaluation (forest type-site index class-site index) was suggested. Nothofagus dombeyi is distributed on very diverse sites in the temperate forests of Chile and Argentina. In Chile, studies on its dynamics and productivity in forests, where it is the dominant species, have been carried out mainly in the foothills of the Andes, but the productivity and growth of these forests in the Coastal Range are almost unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the construction of a single dominant height/age growth model for two homogeneous edaphoclimatic zones (ZEH 2 and 5) previously defined for this species in the Coastal Range of south­central Chile. The results showed that the Chapman-Richards model was the best candidate function, in terms of goodness of fit and predictive capabilities. Using this function, specific parameters (a, b and c) were obtained for each zone, from which site models were constructed by the Algebraic Difference Approach method for a base age of 35 years. This model is intended to contribute to better estimations of site productivity for N. dombeyi forests in the Coastal Range of south-central Chile, and thus facilitate private and public decisions regarding their management.  相似文献

[目的]建立吉林蛟河针阔混交林主要树种不同竞争强度个体的树高-胸径关系模型,并探讨竞争强度对树高-胸径关系的影响。[方法]采用蛟河42 hm2成熟林固定样地中4个树种的树高-胸径数据,用Chapman-Richards、Logistic、Korf和Weibull模型这4种应用广泛的经验模型进行树高-胸径曲线拟合,选出适合的最佳模型。[结果]表明:(1)4个树种的12组个体中有7个组的最佳模型形式是Weibull模型,4个组的最佳模型形式为Chapman-Richards模型,只有1组为Korf模型。(2)同一树种的低竞争强度个体和高竞争强度个体的最优模型形式不同。(3)用独立样本数据对最优模型进行检验,模型表现良好。[结论]Weibull模型能够很好地拟合4个树种各竞争强度的树高-胸径关系,能够适用于本地区针阔混交林的树高-胸径模拟,并且竞争强度会影响树高-胸径关系,将各竞争强度个体分别进行树高-胸径拟合可以提高模型预测能力。  相似文献

以云南省金沙江流域永仁县的云南松天然次生林优势木胸径为研究对象,选择Logistics、Gompertz、Richards、Korf、Levakovic、严格苏马克和Hossfld模型对其进行拟合.通过对总相对误差、平均相对误差、平均相对误差绝对值和预估精度的分析,从中选出最优生长模型.研究结果显示,这些生长模型对云南松天然次生林优势木胸径生长拟合的精度基本相近.最优生长模型为Gompertz模型.  相似文献

[目的]以云冷杉阔叶混交林为对象,比较混交林优势高的估计方法,为混交林立地质量评价提供依据。[方法]在吉林省汪清林业局金沟岭林场,调查53块云冷杉阔叶混交林样地,样地为圆形,面积600 m^2。在每个样地实测6株针阔叶树种优势木的树高和年龄,并采用针叶树的优势高、阔叶树的优势高、算术平均优势高、加权平均优势高4种方法估计林分优势高,通过不同优势高的相关分析、与林分年龄、蓄积量、生产力和密度的关系进行比较。[结果]4种方法得到的林分优势高有显著的相关性,相关系数在0.434~0.980之间;但单用针叶或阔叶树得到的优势高与二者平均高的差别较大,算术及加权平均方法的结果非常接近;4种方法得到的林分优势高与林分蓄积量具有中等的相关性,相关系数在0.358~0.577之间,以断面积加权林分优势高最大,但与林分生产力无显著的相关性;林分优势高受到林分密度的显著影响,与年龄的关系很弱。[结论]对于云冷杉阔叶异龄混交林,4种林分优势高都不能反映立地生产力,需要更多的验证和发展新的立地质量评价指标。  相似文献

The aim of site quality assessment of Pinus radiata plantations is to determine the quality and productivity of the growing stock at different sites. It provides a useful indication of the site productivity to assist in the allocation of optimum thinning and fertiliser regimes and the scheduling of silvicultural operations. The predominant stand height (PDH) at a specific reference age, also known as site index (SI), is often used for site quality assessment of Pinus radiata plantations in Australia, as it is closely correlated with site productivity. However, measuring PDH in the field can be a time- and resource-consuming task. This paper proposes the use of light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data to estimate PDH for assessing the site quality of Pinus radiata. LiDAR provides highly accurate digital elevation and surface data that can be used to build a canopy height model (CHM). In this study, the state-of-the-art image segmentation technique, marker-controlled watershed segmentation, was employed for identifying locations of individual trees and estimating their heights from a CHM. Using an empirically derived SI equation, PDHs with reference age 11 years (SI11) were estimated from the tallest trees identified in each forest stand, and were then used to determine the site quality class for each stand. The comparison of LiDAR-derived tree heights with field measurements produced an RMSE value of 0.42 m. The maximum horizontal distance between the field-measured locations of individual trees and the LiDAR-detected locations of their treetops was 1.87 m. Site quality classification was conducted in terms of 0.05 ha gridded plots, which revealed more detailed spatial variations of site quality across the study area than classification based on management plots. The study demonstrated that LiDAR provides an effective and accurate method for site quality classification of Pinus radiata.  相似文献

The aim was to model the growth of Siberian larch (Larix sibirica Ledeb.) and Russian larch (Larix sukaczewii Dyl., syn. L. sibirica var. sukaczewii) plantations in Hallormsstaeur, Iceland. The field inventory was carried out in eastern Iceland in June 2006. Models were constructed for predicting dominant height, total tree height and 5-year diameter increment. Several linear and non-linear forms of models were tested in preliminary analyses to find the equations that fitted the modelled characteristics best. Due to the spatially hierarchical correlation structure of the data (stands, plots and trees), the assumption of non-correlated error terms did not hold. Therefore, a random parameter modelling approach was adopted using mixed models when the estimates obtained for the random effects were statistically significant. The variance estimates for the random effects can be further used to calibrate the models. The models generated here performed well with independent test data and were consistent with the forest growth theory. They can be used to evaluate site quality and to estimate the growth and yield of larch stands in eastern Iceland in connection with forest planning.  相似文献

The investigation was carried out on 10-year-old plantation of Fraxinus mandshurica in Mao‘er Mountain Experimental Station of Northeast Forest University.tree height(H),diameter at breast height(D1.3) and the increment of tree height in 5 years (H5),the thickness of humus layer,as well as the soil moisture were measured for the plantation and the growth indexes(H,D1.3,H5) for different site conditions were analyzed.The results showedthat main site factors influencing the growth of Fraxinus mandshurica were soil moisture,gradient and location of siope in order.The growth of Fraxinus mandshurica was better on the middle-or up-slope site than on the down-slope site.Soil moisture and late frost caused by terrain are the main reasons that limit the growth of Fraxinus mandshurica plantation.  相似文献

[目的]由于激光雷达技术已经能准确测定立木树高及相关树冠因子,应用该技术建立基于树高和树冠因子的立木材积模型,为激光技术在森林蓄积估计中提供技术支撑.[方法]利用云杉、冷杉、栎树、桦树4个树种组的3 010株实测样木数据,分析了立木材积与胸径、树高、树冠因子之间的相关关系;并通过对数回归方法构建了基于树高和树冠因子的立木材积模型,用确定系数R2和平均预估误差MPE等6项指标对模型进行评价.[结果]表明,立木材积与单一因子之间的相关,以胸径最为紧密,其次是树高,再次是冠长和冠幅.基于树高和树冠因子的立木材积模型中,以树高和冠幅作为解释变量的二元模型效果较好,再增加冠长因子的三元模型改进不大.云杉、冷杉、栎树、桦树4个树种组基于树高冠幅的立木材积模型,其R2分别为0.81、0.80、0.76和0.77,MPE分别为4.7%、5.3%、5.4%和5.3%,模型预估精度均能达到95%左右.[结论]本文对材积与林木因子之间相关关系的定量分析,建立了云杉、冷杉、栎树、桦树4个树种的立木材积模型,模型预估精度高.为激光雷达技术定量估测森林参数提供了依据.  相似文献

A cork growth model for Spanish cork oak forests was developed using data from 432 cork samples. Ten dynamic equations derived from the generalised algebraic difference approach (GADA) were considered for analysis, and both numerical and graphical methods were used to compare alternative models. All of the equations are base-age invariant and directly estimate accumulated cork thickness in complete years at any moment of the cork rotation. The fittings were done using the nested iterative method of the stochastic regression approach. The GADA formulation derived by Krumland and Eng (2005) from the Richards model by considering a 1 and a 3 as related to site productivity was finally selected. The cork growth model developed in this study allows the total accumulated cork thickness in complete years to be estimated in the fourth year of cork rotation with close to 80% reliability for any debarking period, increasing to nearly 90% from the eighth year onwards.  相似文献
