Nannochloropsis oculata (Eustigmatophyceae) is a marine microalga of great biotechnological interest, mainly due to its large production of lipids containing polyunsaturated fatty acids. In addition, this species presents a wide range of commercial interest pigments, such as zeaxanthin, beta‐carotene, and other xanthophylls, with potential for several industrial applications. However, most of the research concerning pigment production by N. oculata has been conducted by employing high‐cost laboratorial growth media, which makes large‐scale pigment production using these microalgae impractical. Considering the high interest and commercial value in microalgae pigments, this study investigates the feasibility of producing pigments by N. oculata using five different low‐cost growth media (fertilizers and aquaculture effluents). Nutrient (ammonia, nitrite and phosphate) concentrations, cell abundance, biomass, and the concentration/composition of pigments were measured. The pigment profile of N. oculata showed chlorophyll‐a as the dominant pigment, along with violaxanthin, vaucheraxanthin, and lower concentrations of antheraxanthin, zeaxanthin and beta‐carotene. Although the highest biomass (516.4 ± 76.71 mg/L) and pigment content (0.98 mg/g) were achieved in the laboratory media (f/2), the low‐cost media (containing ammonium sulfate, calcium superphosphate and urea) revealed a great potential for the production of pigments, specially chlorophyll‐a, violaxanthin and zeaxanthin, due to the high pigment content per unit of biomass.  相似文献

This article presents a highly detailed territorial assessment for aquaculture production in Uruguay and a methodology to identify the most suitable areas in order to develop the activity. Furthermore, it proposes the basis to generate a dynamic modelling tool of high spatial resolution to support the decision‐making process regarding national aquaculture activities. The modelling structure of aquaculture suitability was developed by the construction of a hierarchical model, combining a multicriteria assessment and a geographic information system. Forty‐one attributes were integrated in six aptitude models: one model for each one of the five common production systems intended to be the most viable in Uruguay and a sixth aptitude indicator that summarizes those five systems, representing the maximum suitability for aquaculture activities. In addition, the hierarchical model allows measurement and identification of relative weights of each model, according to the planning scale, ranging from basin to cell.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper examines recent advances in production economics with special reference to efficiency measurement using production frontiers and its implications for aquaculture management. Compared with agriculture and other industries, the use of production frontiers in aquaculture is still very limited. However, in recent years several frontier applications in aquaculture have appeared in the literature, suggesting potential applications of these techniques in aquaculture. A synopsis of stochastic frontier production function model and data envelopment analysis (DEA), the two most popular approaches to efficiency measurement, is presented, followed by a review of recent frontier studies in shrimp, carp and tilapia production. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of future development and prospects of frontier applications for aquaculture management.  相似文献

Controlled incorporation of selected microalgae and bacteria in aquaculture systems can be beneficial because they can act as microbiological control. That is why the characteristics of biofilm generated naturally in Seriola lalandi culture cages were analysed, their potential benefit to the growth of larvae was studied, and their controlled use for improving the larval viability and as a vector to improve incorporation of previously studied probiotic bacteria was tested. According to biodiversity results, these biofilms are composed of a diatom–bacteria mix showing a decrease in biodiversity in laboratory culture conditions being dominated by Navicula phyllepta and bacteria of the family Rhodobacteraceae. This can be produced on mesh substrates incorporated in bioreactors with rapid growth rate and adhesiveness. Preliminary results from the addition of substrates with this specific biofilm in larvae culture systems showed that it is consumed by the larvae without negative effects, while positive effects on the viability of larvae in combination with probiotics were observed. Considering preliminary results, the addition of these specific substrates with diatom–bacteria biofilms could be a good improvement for aquaculture systems and together with the use of probiotics can contribute to maintaining a stable and controlled system improving the viability of the larval fish culture in its early stages.  相似文献

The supply of microalgae to hatcheries is a limiting factor for the mass larval production of sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) in Fujian Province, China. In this study, Nannochloropsis sp. isolated from the East China Sea was tested as food for A. japonicus larvae. The first trial compared the effect of mono‐, bi‐ and trialgal diets comprising three microalgae (Chaetoceros muelleri, Dunaliella tertiolecta and Nannochloropsis sp.) on A. japonicus larval growth, survival, settlement and juvenile growth. The results showed that there were no significant differences in survival and settlement between larvae fed with Nannochloropsis sp. and other diets. All diet treatments yielded similar juvenile sea cucumber output. In the second trial, A. japonicus larvae were fed equally four times daily at three different rations (5000, 20 000 and 40 000 cells mL?1 day?1). Larvae fed 20 000 cells mL?1 day?1 were significantly larger than larvae in other groups and experienced the highest survival rate. In the third trial, A. japonicus larvae were fed 20 000 cells mL?1 day?1 in three different frequency (2, 3 and 4 meals day?1). The greatest body length was observed in larvae that received 3 meals day?1. Survival and settlement of larvae fed 2 meals day?1 were significantly lower than other two groups. These results suggest that Nannochloropsis sp. can be used as a diet for the large‐scale production of A. japonicus seed, and larvae fed three times daily at a ration of 20 000 cell mL?1 day?1 are recommended for hatchery production of A. japonicus.  相似文献

The effects of system partition on the water quality were studied using three shrimp ponds (Ts), and each one of the shrimp pond was connected individually with a fish pond by piping and pump. Three other isolated shrimp ponds were designated as the Cs treatment. The results showed that the implementation of the system can improve the water quality in the shrimp ponds. Particulate organic matter (POM), chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrite nitrogen (NO2–N) and nitrate nitrogen (NO3–N) in the Ts were lower than those in the Cs during the experiment, and in some cases, they were significantly lower (p < 0.05). Throughout most of the experimental period, the soluble reactive phosphorus in the Ts treatment were greater than that in the Cs treatment (p < 0.05), and N/P ratio of the water column was lower in the Ts treatment than in the Cs treatment throughout most of the experimental period (p < 0.05). These results indicate that the partitioned system contributed to the stability of water quality and N/P ratio in the water. Vibrio parahaemolyticus was dominant in the third to seventh weeks in Cs, and the dominant condition was found only in seventh week in Ts. The result indicated that system may contribute to the slowing down of the breakout of V. parahaemolyticus in the shrimp pond. According to the redundancy analysis, COD, chlorophyll a and POM were mainly positively related to the dominance index of V. parahaemolyticus, and maybe POM can serve as an indicator to reflect the trend of V. parahaemolyticus.  相似文献

Fish farming releases extensive amounts of particulate organic waste that can be exploited by bivalves in integrated culture. We tested if mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis cultured at two depths (1 and 6 m) in a raft, moored 170 m from a fish farm had greater growth than bivalves held 550 m from the fish cages. Mussel growth was monitored monthly, covering the second phase of the culture, from thinning‐out to harvest (March to November 2011). We also studied if fish solid and dissolved nutrients increased the organic content of the seston and chlorophyll‐a levels near the fish cages through weekly samples. Results showed no differences in seston, chlorophyll and physiochemical characteristics of the water among rafts. Maximum growth and Condition Index (CI) occurred during spring–summer (April–August), when mussels had access to greater food quality and quantity. Mussels cultivated close to the cages showed similar shell length, weight and CI compared with mussels distant from the fish farm. Average shell length, meat dry weight and CI at harvest were 76.31 mm, 2.51 g and 23%. Bivalves cultured distant from the fish cages displayed 26% higher biomass than the other raft at the end of the experiment. Differences in biomass were explained by the significantly higher recruitment of mussel seed observed at the raft distant from the fish cages from June to November. The lack of a significant enhancement in growth of the bivalves cultured next to finfish is discussed.  相似文献

Garlic, Allium sativum L., extract administered as a therapeutic bath was shown to have antiparasitic properties towards Neobenedenia sp. (MacCallum) (Platyhelminthes: Monogenea) infecting farmed barramundi, Lates calcarifer (Bloch). The effect of garlic extract (active component allicin) immersion on Neobenedenia sp. egg development, hatching success, oncomiracidia (larvae) longevity, infection success and juvenile Neobenedenia survival was examined and compared with freshwater and formalin immersion. Garlic extract was found to significantly impede hatching success (5% ± 5%) and oncomiracidia longevity (<2 h) at allicin concentrations of 15.2 μL L?1, while eggs in the seawater control had >95% hatching success and mean oncomiracidia longevity of 37 ± 3 h. At much lower allicin concentrations (0.76 and 1.52 μL L?1), garlic extract also significantly reduced Neobenedenia infection success of L. calcarifer to 25% ± 4% and 11% ± 4%, respectively, compared with 55% ± 7% in the seawater control. Juvenile Neobenedenia attached to host fish proved to be highly resistant to allicin with 96% surviving 1‐h immersion in 10 mL L?1 (15.2 μL L?1 allicin) of garlic extract. Allicin‐containing garlic extracts show potential for development as a therapy to manage monogenean infections in intensive aquaculture with the greatest impact at the egg and larval stages.  相似文献

The performance of microbial flocs as food for Artemia, which were produced using waste from a recirculating aquaculture system stocking European eel (Anguilla anguilla), was investigated in an 18‐day feeding trial. Four dietary treatments were used: Chlorella only (diet 1), flocs only (diet 2), and both Chlorella and flocs offered as mixed diets in different proportions (diets 3 and 4). The survival rate of Artemia fed diets 1 and 4 were significantly higher than those fed diets 2 and 3. The survival rate of Artemia fed diet 4 was the highest among the four diets. Individual length (10.02 ± 2.44 mm) and biomass production of diet 3 (3.2 ± 0.40 g L–1) were the highest among the four diets. The crude protein contents for Artemia fed diets 2, 3 and 4 were 591.22 ± 30.15, 580.34 ± 22.42 and 533.27 ± 34.19 g kg–1, respectively, which were significantly higher than that of diet 1 (461.25 ± 10.33 g kg–1). The concentrations of free amino acids and the fatty acid compositions in the four diets were equal, except for the C24:0 content. The highly unsaturated fatty acid concentration of Artemia fed diet 2 was higher than those of the other three diets. It showed that microbial flocs produced from fish waste can be used for Artemia.  相似文献

Spatiotemporal patterns of distribution of sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, and sea bream, Sparus aurata, and their influence on artisanal fisheries are explored before and after an escape event that released 1.5 million fish into the wild off La Palma (Canary Islands). Data were collected by in situ visual census and first sale data as a proxy of artisanal fisheries landings. Permutational anova of escapee abundances in shallow coastal habitats revealed consistent spatial patterns that linked densities of these fish to distance from escape point, whereas temporal patterns were related to a higher biomass released during winter. A nearby marine protected area did not show different densities of escaped fish. Local artisanal fleet catches accurately reflected the massive escape event and offer the main contingency force to mitigate the potential negative effects of massive escape events over shallow coastal habitats.  相似文献

This article reports on the changes in gross biochemical and fatty acid composition of the razor clam Ensis arcuatus larvae throughout development. Protein was the largest component of dried larval tissues. The energy required for embryogenesis in E. arcuatus oocytes was obtained from stored proteins and carbohydrates, while total lipids increased significantly. Lipids and carbohydrates have an important role as energy contributors from day 1 to day 8. During larval development the strategy was to indistinctly store energy reserves (protein, lipid and carbohydrate) to surpass metamorphosis. During embryonic development there was a gain in fatty acids of neutral and polar lipids. A depletion of fatty acids in neutral lipids was observed from day 1 to day 8 in E. arcuatus larvae, mainly due to the decrease in 16:0 and EPA. NMID fatty acids were present in amounts similar to those of some PUFAs in polar lipids, especially 22:2NMID.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate variability of nitrifying bacterial community in the biofilm and in the water of a recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in a tilapia farming in order to determine if nitrification process is dependent, or not, of nitrifying bacteria abundance. Biofilm and water samples were collected periodically for 30 days and analysed with the fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) technique, used to quantify ammonia‐oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nitrite‐oxidizing bacteria (NOB). Ammonia presented the peak in the first week, while the nitrite's maximum was recorded in the second week. Nitrate increased steadily, indicating nitrification activity. Total bacterial abundance in biofilm increased continuously, while in water, it did not change significantly. In the biofilm, number of AOB was high at beginning, decreased after few days and increased again following augment of ammonia. Number of NOB also showed an increase in abundance in biofilm following the increment of nitrite and nitrate. In water, AOB and NOB did not show major variability. Relative abundance of nitrifying bacteria represented more than 30% of total bacteria in biofilm at beginning of the experiment. Their contribution decreased to >3% in last days. It indicates that nitrifying bacteria are biofilm colonizers, and that their activity seems to be directly related to the concentration of nitrogen compounds. However, contribution of nitrifying bacteria did not vary much along the time. We may conclude that the biofilm‐nitrifying bacteria plays major role in nitrification process in RAS and that the activity of these organisms is dependent of their abundance in response to the concentration of nitrogen compounds.  相似文献

The pullet carpet shell Venerupis corrugata is an economically valuable species in several European countries, however, nowadays stocks are under high fishing pressure. Hatchery production of juveniles for release is a major contributor to strengthen the stock and consequently improve the sustainability of the natural stocks. This study aimed to determine the feasibility of rearing V. corrugata larvae with different larval densities (10, 40 and 200 larvae per mL) in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), compared with the traditional larval rearing methodology (Batch). The mean survival, growth and metamorphic rate of V. corrugata larvae in RAS was higher (11.1%; 71.3 μm; 21.6% respectively) than in the Batch system, in all tested densities. The larval growth was not affected by the initial density until 40 larvae per mL, however, 200 larvae per mL decreased the larval growth in length nearly 54 μm. The larval rearing time was shortened in 2 days in the RAS system. The physical, chemical and microbiologic parameters suggested that the tested densities were not excessive to disturb the biofilter stability of RAS. The V. corrugata larval rearing performed at high larval stocking densities in RAS system present a reduction in the operating costs to produce this species.  相似文献
