A 7-year-old spayed German Shorthaired Pointer was determined to have a branchial cyst in the subcutaneous tissues of the cervical/facial area. Treatment had been attempted by aspiration and placement of drains, but without success; the final diagnosis was made after microscopic examination of the wall of the excised cyst. The means by which fluctuant swellings in this region may be differentiated are anatomic location and examination of full-thickness biopsy specimens of cyst walls.  相似文献

We report three cases of adult cats showing a prolapse of the gland of the third eyelid. Three different breeds were affected: Burmese, Persian and Domestic Short-haired. In all cases, the disorder occurred spontaneously, without any other ocular sign. Surgical replacement of the gland was performed using the Morgan pocket technique. Good esthetic results were obtained, and no recurrence occurred.  相似文献

Intraspinal epidermoid cyst in a dog   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A 2-year-old female Rottweiler was examined because of progressive gait deficits consistent with transverse myelopathy between the T2 and L3 spinal cord segments. Myelography confirmed an intramedullary spinal cord lesion between T13 and L1, so the dog was euthanatized. At necropsy, an intramedullary epidermoid cyst was confirmed in the T13 and L1 spinal cord segments. The epidermoid cyst probably resulted from a congenital cause.  相似文献

A 7-year-old spayed bitch had a 3-year history of episodes of hind-limb weakness and ataxia. Neurologic abnormalities consisted of deficits in postural reactions, spinal reflexes, and conscious proprioception. A right-sided head tilt also was observed. Immediately after cervical radiography, CSF tap, and electroencephalography, the dog was alert, but it was found comatose the next morning and died within an hour. At necropsy, a 1.6- x 0.8- x 1.5-cm, thinly encapsulated mass was found on the left cerebellar peduncle. It had caused dorsal displacement of the left portion of the cerebellum and ventral compression of the fourth ventricle. Histologically, the mass was determined to be a dermoid cyst.  相似文献

A cranial cervical mass was surgically removed from a dog. On histologic examination, the mass was consistent with an esophageal duplication cyst, a condition rare in humans and not reported in the dog.  相似文献

An eight-year-old, male Siberian husky cross was referred with a history of an acute onset of pelvic-limb ataxia and paraparesis. Radiography and subsequent myelography of the spine revealed an extradural compression of the spinal cord at the level of the 13th thoracic (T13) to first lumbar (L1) vertebrae. Hemilaminectomy resulted in the successful removal of an extradural cystic lesion. The morphological diagnosis based on histopathology was a synovial cyst with chondromatosis. There were no postoperative complications, and the dog's condition improved markedly. At two years postoperatively, the animal remains normal on both physical and neurological examination. To the authors' knowledge, this article is the first report of an intraspinal synovial cyst in a dog.  相似文献

The objective of this prospective study was to investigate the success rate, practicality and complications of a new perilimbal pocket technique for the replacement of prolapsed nictitans gland in 30 dogs (44 eyes). A first incision was made in the bulbar conjunctiva, 2-3 mm from and parallel to the infero-nasal limbus, a second incision on the bulbar aspect of the nictitating membrane (NM), 2-3 mm parallel to the free edge. The gland was returned to its normal position by suturing the subconjunctival tissues of the NM to the episcleral tissues, using four to six interrupted horizontal mattress sutures. The English bulldog, Neapolitan mastiff, great dane and American cocker spaniel were commonly presented. Nictitans gland prolapse occurred prior to one year of age in 83.3 per cent of dogs, and unilaterally in 15 patients. The procedure was easy to perform, and had a 90.9 per cent success rate, with minimal complications. The median duration of follow-up, conducted by ophthalmic examination or telephone contact with the owners, was 21.5 months. Tear production and ocular health were not affected in 17 eyes with at least six?months follow-up. There was a statistically significant increase between preoperative and?postoperative Schirmer tear test-1 measurements.  相似文献

A swelling ventromedial to the left eye of a one-year-old, neutered male Labrador failed to respond to antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy. Plain and contrast radiography revealed a spherical, radiolucent area, 1.5 cm in diameter, dorsomedial to the fourth maxillary premolar and rostral to the ethmoid region. The lesion was thin-walled, with a smooth radiopaque margin, and was clearly demarcated from the surrounding structures. Dacryocystography demonstrated no apparent physical association between the lesion and the nasolacrimal duct, the latter appearing normal. Ultrasonography of the lesion showed a round, anechoic structure consistent with the appearance of a cyst. Prior to surgical excision of the lesion, intralesional fluid was aspirated. Bacteriology of the fluid was negative for both aerobic and anaerobic organisms. Cytological examination of the fluid showed a few macrophages and small lymphocytes; neither significant inflammatory component nor neoplastic cells were found. Histology showed the lesion to be a benign epithelial cyst. The dog recovered uneventfully and there was no clinical evidence of recurrence within a two-year follow-up period.  相似文献

An 18-month-old, intact male Akita presented with a 12-month history of progressive ataxia, hypermetria, and loss of conscious proprioception of the thoracic and pelvic limbs. Neurological examination and myelography localized a lesion at cervical vertebrae 1 and 2 consistent with an arachnoid cyst. Hemilaminectomy and cyst fenestration led to virtually full recovery.  相似文献

An 8-month-old, spayed female dog was presented with signs localizing a neurologic lesion between the 3rd thoracic and 3rd lumbar vertebrae. An arachnoid cyst was diagnosed by myelography, and a dorsal laminectomy with durotomy was performed. The dog continues to do well 1-1/2 year after surgery.  相似文献

Intermittent episodes of fever, severe dyspnoea and cyanosis were observed in a two-and-a-half-year-old male German shepherd dog. The clinical signs were of sudden onset but disappeared within eight hours, in five almost identical episodes over a period of 40 days. Radiological examination of the thorax revealed a large rounded area of radiolucency surrounded by a thin radiopaque structure. The lesion increased in volume between examinations, but otherwise remained similar in appearance. It could not be confirmed from the radiographs whether the structure was situated in lung tissue or mediastinum. Bronchoscopic examination revealed no abnormal findings and there was no bacterial growth from samples taken 30 days after the onset of symptoms. A large, vesicular structure, partly adherent to the mediastinum, was surgically removed from the left cranial lung lobe. The structure was 8 to 10 cm in diameter and partly filled with mucoid pink fluid. Histological examination revealed that the wall contained traces of bronchial epithelial cells. On bacteriological examination of the fluid, Gram-positive, mucus-forming bacteria were present. The definitive gross pathological and histopathological diagnosis was a bronchogenic cyst which had developed secondarily to bronchiectasis. Bronchitis and peribronchitis were also identified. The dog recovered well after surgery and, at the time of writing, was in active duty as a police dog, showing no signs of respiratory illness.  相似文献
