In the first study of the Protura of a big city, six representative habitat types were sampled in Vienna, Austria. Twenty-five sites between the green belt and the city centre yielded 42 known species. Abundance, species number and diversity were highest in colline deciduous forests, with a maximum of 23 syntopic species in a Quercus pubescens stand. Acerella muscorum, all of the five Acerentomon spp. and 13 further species occurred exclusively in colline deciduous forests. The mediterranean Berberentulus berberus and six other species were recorded exclusively in parks or artificial habitats, suggesting anthropogenic transport. No Protura were found in garden and arable soils. Species density in the municipal area of Vienna (415 km2) is a function of the city's biogeographic situation on the border between the Alps and the Pannonian lowland as well as its diversity of seminatural habitats, and unintentional introduction.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments were conducted using intact collembolan communities, exposed to Madit D®, a phenylurea herbicide (active ingredient isoproturon). Effects were investigated using two distinct humus types, an acid Dysmoder and a neutral Eumull. Within two weeks, no effect of the herbicide was displayed by the Eumull population, while the Dysmoder population was stimulated. When animals were able to escape from the herbicide through a perforated wall separating two compartments filled with natural soil, the behavior of collembolan communities exhibited interactive (non-additive) effects of humus type and herbicide application. The combination of an acid soil (supposedly providing greater tolerance to organic pollutants) with a neutral soil, increased biodiversity of Collembola, but caused the disappearance of some acido-sensitive species, pointing to complex relationships between pesticides, soils and soil organisms. Parallel experiments with single species demonstrated that at the recommended dose Madit D® may cause avoidance effects, but no toxicity.  相似文献

We showed that Folsomia candida (a blind soil-dwelling Collembola) was able to shift from non-directional (random or search strategy) to directional (target-oriented) movements at short distance of food. We measured departure from linearity and access (or not) to food by the springtail according to distance to the target position. Video-records and image analysis were used to obtain numerical data at 0.2 s interval. The probability of food capture within 10 min (maximum duration of the experiment) was negatively related to distance. Two patterns can be observed along successful trajectories in our experimental conditions (22 °C, ambient light, still air), non-directional movement being followed by directional movement when the animals approach food at 25 mm.  相似文献

 Micro-samples of the surface organic horizons of 13 beech forests in Belgium were fixed immediately after collection in ethanol. Collembola (6255 animals) were sorted directly from micro-samples in the laboratory using a dissecting microscope, while the litter/soil matrix was analysed semi-quantitatively. The vertical distribution of Collembolan species was studied by correspondence analysis. Gut contents of animals were examined under a light microscope and their composition was compared with that of the matrix. A consistent association was found between the vertical distribution of gut contents and that of food resources in the immediate proximity of animals. Species differed in their feeding habits but most of them ingested a wide spectrum of food items. Plasticity in the food regime according to depth could be demonstrated in members of the Onychiuridae family. Received: 11 January 1999  相似文献

Molecular data have been increasingly used to study the phylogenetic relationships among many animal taxa, including arthropods. Sometimes they have provided phylogenetic reconstructions that are in conflict with morphological data leading to a re-evaluation of long-standing evolutionary hypotheses. In this paper, we review the major contributions to the phylogeny of hexapods based on molecular data, with emphasis on the relationships of basal hexapod taxa. The placement and the monophyly of the five basal hexapod lineages (the “apterygotes”: Protura, Collembola, Diplura, Microcoryphia and Zygentoma) are one of the hottest issues in arthropod phylogeny. We discuss methods of data collection and analysis, and we describe the areas of conflict and agreement between molecular phylogenies and the evidence provided by morphological characters.  相似文献

The Pampa region is the most important agricultural area in Argentina. Although intensive agricultural activity is leading to important levels of soil degradation, studies on the impact on soil fauna are scarce. Despite the environmental importance of collembolans, symphylans and pauropods in soil, information on the influence of land management on their population densities is poor, particularly in Neotropical agroecosystems. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different management systems on the density of collembolans, symphylans and pauropods. Population abundance of these arthropods was examined in a natural site and a cattle raising, a mixed and an agricultural management system on a Typic Hapludoll soil in La Colacha, Córdoba, Argentina. All the sites studied had the same land use history until approximately 50 years before sampling and have the same soil type. Total abundance of the studied groups varied in the different management systems. Our results suggest that conventional agricultural management tends to reduce the density of collembolans and pauropods. Our data do not support our hypothesis that the cattle raising management system constitutes an intermediate situation between the natural site and the high-input management systems. We conclude that the reduction of collembolan and pauropod densities in high-input management systems is largely explained by the mechanical and chemical perturbations produced by conventional agricultural management practices and by particular abiotic soil conditions present in the intensively managed sites that are unfavourable for these organisms. Surprisingly, symphylans were more abundant in the mixed management site. The implications of our findings on soil ecosystem functioning are discussed.  相似文献

The monoculture cropping system causes significant changes within the soil ecosystem, which constitutes a habitat for soil-dwelling springtails. Focusing on the response of soil fauna to 90 years of potato cultivation in monoculture the study investigates the abundance and diversity of soil-dwelling springtails, considering changes in the soil environment in relation to five-crop rotation. Another point was the soil quality evaluation using Collembola as bioindicators (QBS-c index). A long-term monoculture experiment was established in Poland in 1923 and has continued uninterruptedly to the present time. Soil samples were taken over a period of three years (2011–2013) to determine collembolan abundance and composition, as well as physical and chemical soil properties.

The study demonstrated that there were greater numbers of Collembola in the long-term monoculture of potatoes, especially before planting time, compared to numbers in a five-field crop rotation. At the same time apparently greater species diversity was found in potato culture within crop rotation. The biological indicator of soil quality based on the occurrence of springtails (QBS-c) has proved useful in assessing changes in soil caused by agrotechnical activities. This index indicated better biological soil quality in the five-field rotation system compared to monoculture.  相似文献

We studied genetic variation and population differentiation in the springtail Orchesella cincta L. An earlier approach, using allozymes, revealed extremely low variation among and within populations from NW Europe. Microsatellite marker analysis showed higher genetic variation than allozymes, and agreed with the previously reported low population differentiation in the species. Analysis of molecular variance showed that genetic variation within populations amounted to 96.5% of the total variation, whereas the remaining 3.5% is accounted for by population differentiation. Population differentiation, as described by microsatellite markers and with the exception of one population, can be explained by an isolation by distance. Although the microsatellites are short, viz. only up to 12 repeat units, they appear to be useful tools in revealing population genetic structures in O. cincta.  相似文献

Purpose

The objective of this study was to determine the long-term environmental changes induced by ancient landslide in the mountain fen. Attempts were made to demonstrate the progress of the soil cover restoration process about 200 years after the landslides and associated with changes in vegetation and soil microarthropod biodiversity and occurrence pattern associated with the restoration of soil cover.

Material and methods

The study covered mountain fen of the Caltho-Alnetum in the Babiogórski National Park in Outer Flysch Carpathians, Poland, where ancient landslide deposits are causing disturbance in fen hydrologic regime and over time related to various rate of fen area natural restoration processes. The drill test has been used to assess changes in layering and thickness of the fen soils. The following soil parameters, such as pH and total organic carbon content, were determined at each distinguish layer. The diversity and distribution pattern of soil microarthropods, represented by Collembola, was examined in two parts of the fen: restored and not-restored. The soil parameters, such as pH, electrical conductivity, total exchangeable base, total organic carbon, and nitrogen content, were determined in the soil samples simultaneously. The assessment of the vegetation structure recovery within studied mountain fen after landslide was referred to average parameters of the community completed for other natural mountain fens under the Caltho-Alnetum community. The research results were statistically verified.

Results and discussion

The test drillings showed that landslides change soil layering, site-specific soil properties of mountain fen such as chemistry (the statistically significant differences were noted only in the case of total organic carbon content), vegetation structure, and soil microarthropod communities. By changing site-specific conditions, landslides influence on the biodiversity and peatland ecosystems functioning.

Conclusion

Our results clearly demonstrate that the landslide itself initiated a complex and lengthy process of changes in biological aspects of peatlands including the biodiversity of the underground fauna and plant community. Soil microarthropod communities represented by Collembola can be used as a good indicator of mountain fen restoration process.

Investigations were carried out to determine whether flavor compounds characteristic for fresh cucumbers could be rapidly determined using a solid-phase microextraction (SPME) dynamic headspace sampling method combined with gas chromatography and flame ionization detection. Cucumbers were sampled, during blending, for fresh cucumber flavor compounds (E,Z)-2,6-nonadienal and (E)-2-nonenal. The GC was such that the two target compounds were separated and baseline-resolved. Relative standard deviations for analysis of both (E,Z)-2,6-nonadienal and (E)-2-nonenal using this SPME sampling method were +/-10%. Utility of the analytical method was demonstrated by determining the effect of heat treatments on the ability of cucumbers to produce these flavor impact compounds.  相似文献

Abstract

Information on carbon (C) flows and transformations in the rhizosphere provides a basis for understanding the functioning of the system. However, the sophisticated growth cabinet facilities required for collecting quantitative data, with 14C labelling, generally limit their application under field conditions. We determined the feasibility of ‘pulse‐labelling’ pasture swards with 14C [exposing the plants to a single large 14C‐carbon dioxide (CO2) pulse] to monitor C transformations under field conditions using a simple chamber modified to form a sealed hemisphere over an area of pasture. The 14C‐CO2 was introduced into the hemisphere to 14C label the plant material. Assimilation of 14C‐CO2 was checked by taking samples of the chamber atmosphere. Any leakage of 14C‐CO2 from the chamber was also checked by taking air samples from around and outside the chamber during the assimilation period. The chamber was subsequently removed, and the pasture was opened to natural conditions. Cores were taken periodically from the treated area. Herbage, roots and soils were separated and analyzed for 14C. Incorporation of 14C‐CO2 into the pasture sward was rapid and the variability was non‐limiting. Up to 78% of the calculated 14C‐CO2 produced in the syringe and injected into the chamber could be accounted for in the plant/soil system four hours after labelling. The fate of the 14C label was monitored after an allocation period of 4 hour to 35 days in the plant/soil system using well established methods of analysis. This simple chamber technique appears to be useful for studying C transfers through the pasture plant/soil system and for understanding C dynamics in the field.  相似文献
