Extracts from Pycnanthus angolensis stem bark, and fruits and seeds of Sphenocentrum jollyanum, when tested in vitro, showed potent anthelmintic activity on the earthworm, Eudrilus eugeniae. Methanolic extract of P. angolensis was more active than its chloroform extract (P<0.001), while fruit ethanolic extract of S. jollyanum was also more potent than the seed extract. When compared with other worms, S. jollyanum fruit extract showed the greatest activity on wireworms when tested at 80 mg/ml.  相似文献

Seeds of Butea monosperma administered as crude powder (CP) at doses of 1, 2 and 3 g/kg to sheep naturally infected with mixed species of gastrointestinal nematodes exhibited a dose and a time-dependent anthelmintic effect. The maximum reduction of 78.4% in eggs per gram of feces (EPG) was recorded on day 10 after treatment with 3 g/kg. Levamisole (7.5 mg/kg), a standard anthelmintic agent, exhibited 99.1% reduction in EPG.  相似文献

The ethanolic extracts of Lawsonia inermis leaves, Holarrhena antidysenterica bark, Swertia chirata whole plant and Mangifera indica bark were tested (in-vitro) for alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The water extract of the stem bark of Sacoglottis gabonensis was evaluated for its preliminary acute toxicity and anthelmintic efficacy against gastro-intestinal nematodes of small ruminants and mice in both in vitro and in vivo studies. Intra-peritoneal administration of doses ranging from 400 to 3200 mg/kg of the aqueous stem bark extract produced varying degrees of toxicity manifested as depression, drowsiness and unsteady gait, paralysis of the hind limbs, dyspnoea, coma and death. The pathological lesions noted at necropsy were mainly congestion and edema of the lungs, bronchi and bronchioles and hepatomegally with focal necrosis of liver cells. The severity of the clinical symptoms and pathological lesions were dose-related. In the in vitro study, the extract significantly (P<0.05) reduced the hatching of strongyline nematode eggs from naturally infected small ruminants. The 100 mg/ml concentration of the extract produced the highest (94.4%) inhibition on nematode egg hatch and the result was comparable to similar effect produced by either levamisole (100% at 15 mg/ml) or albendazole (99.7% at 6.25 mg/ml). In rats experimentally infected with Heligmosomoides polygyrus, treatment with the S. gabonensis stem bark aqueous extract significantly (P<0.05) reduced adult worm burden and completely inhibited faecal egg output 5 days post treatment.  相似文献

Aqueous extracts of the leaf, stem bark and root bark from Canna bidentata, Spondias mombin and Commiphora africana were examined for anthelmintic activity against earthworm. All the extracts demonstrated a concentration-dependent activity at tested concentrations of 10-80 mg/ml. Higher activities were observed at the higher concentrations, 40-80 mg/ml for all the plant extracts. C. bidentata with a paralysis time of 3-5 min and death time of 5-18 min at these concentrations for the stem bark, and S. mombin which exhibited comparatively higher efficacy (34-44 min paralysis time and 105 min death time for the leaf) at lower concentrations of 10-20 mg/ml were adjudged the outstanding anthelmintics of plant origin accordingly.  相似文献

Methanol extracts were prepared from different parts of 18 plants collected in the Yucatan peninsula and evaluated in an in vitro bioassay for leishmanicidal activity against Leishmania mexicana promastigotes. The ten most potent plant extracts (IC(50)<50 microg/ml) were Aphelandra scabra leaves, Byrsonima bucidaefolia bark, Byrsonima crassifolia bark, Clusia flava leaves, Cupania dentata bark, Diphysa carthagenensis leaves, Dorstenia contrajerva whole plant, Milleria quinqueflora roots, Tridax procumbens whole plant, and Vitex gaumeri bark.  相似文献

The essential oil of Ocimum sanctum and eugenol, tested in vitro, showed potent anthelmintic activity in the Caenorhabditis elegans model. Eugenol exhibited an ED(50) of 62.1 microg/ml. Eugenol being the predominant component of the essential oil, is suggested as the putative anthelmintic principle.  相似文献

The ethanolic extract of Symphyopappus casarettoi syn. Eupatorium casarettoi was partionated in hexanic, chloroformic and methanolic fractions. Extract and fractions were tested for their antioxidant activity in vitro and ex vivo assays. The methanolic fraction showed a higher antioxidant potential compared to the others fractions, which was correlated with its total phenol content. In addition, the ethanolic extract and the methanolic fraction attenuated ex vivo iron-induced cell death, quantified by lactate dehydrogenase leakage, and effectively protected against lipid damage induced by iron. These findings suggest that the ethanolic extract of S. casarettoi inflorescence and its methanolic fraction have in vitro and ex vivo antioxidant properties.  相似文献

Several extracts of Origanum dictamnus, an endemic plant of Greece growing only in the island of Crete and the bioassay-directed isolated ursolic acid, were tested in vitro against the P388 (murine leukemia) and the human bronchial epidermoid cancer NSCLC-N6 (non small cell lung cancer) cell lines. Both the initial dichloromethane extract and the isolated from it ursolic acid exhibited cytotoxic activity. Ursolic acid was also tested in vivo, on murine ascite leukemia P388, where it exhibited at a dose of 50 mg/kg a marginal antileukemic activity.  相似文献

The present study investigates the effect of in vivo administration of alcoholic extract of Tinospora cordifolia whole plant (ALTC) on the proliferation and myeloid differentiation of bone marrow hematopoietic precursor cells in mice bearing a transplantable T cell lymphoma of spontaneous origin designated as Dalton's lymphoma (DL). BMC obtained from ALTC administered DL-bearing mice showed an enhanced BMC proliferation and colony forming ability in vitro in response to L929 conditioned medium as a source of colony stimulating factor (CSF). The number of granulocyte-macrophages colony (CFU-GM) was predominantly higher in the cultures of BMC obtained from ALTC administered mice as compared to mice injected with PBS alone. An increase in the count of bone marrow derived macrophages (BMDM) from ALTC administered mice was also observed along with an increase in the count of tumor associated macrophages. The BMDM obtained from ALTC administered mice showed an enhanced response to signal of LPS for activation to produce IL-1 and TNF. This study indicates that the T. cordifolia can influence the myeloid differentiation of bone marrow progenitor cells and the recruitment of macrophages in response to tumor growth in situ.  相似文献

The cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity of petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol extracts of Wedelia calendulacea were assayed by brine shrimp lethality bioassay and standardized disk diffusion method against 19 bacterial strains. Three diterpenes isolated from the plant were also evaluated for in vitro antibacterial activities. The LC50 for the crude extracts against the brine shrimp nauplii were found to be 4.59 microg/ml, 7.99 microg/ml and 14.88 microg/ml, respectively, whereas the positive control, vincristine sulfate showed an LC50 of 0.58 microg/ml. Among the crude extracts and pure compounds tested, (-)-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid isolated from the chloroform extract showed the highest inhibitory activity against most of the bacterial strains with mean zone of inhibition of 10-21 mm at 200 microg/disc.  相似文献

Zizyphus oxyphylla Edgew is used in Pakistan as a folk medicinal remedy for inflammatory conditions, pains especially rheumatic pain, fevers, allergy and diabetes. The aim of the current study was to scientifically validate the folk use of Z. oxyphylla Edgew by using the isolated compound in vitro and in vivo levels. Kushecarpin A was isolated from ethyl acetate fraction of the plant crude extract. Molecular docking simulations predicted Kushecarpin A as a potential new lipoxygenase (LOX) inhibitor. Kushecarpin A showed significant lipoxygenase inhibition (IC50: 7.2 ± 0.02 μM) thus validated computational prediction. It also exhibited significant and highly significant inhibition (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01) of carrageenan-induced hind paw oedema at the doses of 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg. Kushecarpin A seems to be a potentially new anti-inflammatory compound responsible for anti-inflammatory activities of Z. oxyphylla Edgew. In vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory inflammatory activities were found in good agreement with the folk medicinal use of Z. oxyphylla Edgew in inflammatory disorders.  相似文献

The ethanol extracts of Bidens pilosa (whole plant), Bischofia javanica (leaves), Elmerillia papuana (root bark) and Sigesbekia orientalis (whole plant) were partitioned (petrol, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate). The crude ethanolic extracts and all the obtained fractions showed a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, the ethyl acetate fractions and the petrol fraction of E. papuana being the most effective. Production of Solanum nigrum and S. nigrum var. judaicum plants with a high power of alkaloid accumulation was the aim of in vitro regeneration trials followed by in vivo plant acclimatization. MS-basal medium containing BA and NAA (0.5 mg/ml each) was the best for both plants. A series of in vitro and in vivo plants were successfully produced and chemical analysis revealed contents of glycoalkaloids higher than those reported for intact field plants.  相似文献

The effects of Butea superba on the reproductive system in male Wistar rats were investigated. The animals were fed daily with the powdered crude drug suspended in distilled water by a gastric tube at the dose of 2, 25, 250 and 1250 mg/kg body weight for 8 weeks. Rats fed with 1 ml of distilled water were used as a negative control. The weights of all vital organs in all treated groups were not different from the control. The percentage weight ratios of body weights of seminal vesicles and prostate glands were not different from the control, except that the testis of the group fed with 1250 mg/kg was significantly different from the control and the other treated groups. In addition, the sperm counts in this group showed about 16% more than the control group. Hematology as well as the liver and kidney function of all treated groups showed no difference from the control. B. superba, drug at 250 mg/kg which was 100 times more than the Thai FDA recommended dose for humans appeared to be safe in rats. The crude drug has demonstrated an increase tendency on testis weight and sperm counts in rat. The information from the present study can be used to explain the Thai folklore application of this plant in Thailand.  相似文献

【目的】为寻找对猕猴桃果实软腐病主要病原菌具有较佳抑菌效果的植物源保鲜剂(植物提取物),以促进猕猴桃产业健康、可持续的发展。【方法】以猕猴桃葡萄座腔菌和间座壳菌为供试真菌,选择120种具有抗菌抑菌作用的药用植物的丙酮提取物,采用牛津杯法对其离体抑菌活性进行了测定。【结果】在供试药材(生药)提取物的质量浓度为1.0 g/mL的条件下进行初筛,得到了20余种具有较强抑菌作用的植物品种;在以丁香、肉桂、零陵香、黄芩、油茶粕、广藿香、石菖蒲、迷迭香、黄连、凤仙透骨草、山苍子等植物的提取物处理后,2种病原真菌的抑菌圈直径均可达15 mm以上;其中丁香和肉桂的抑菌效果最好,其生药提取物的最低抑菌浓度和最低杀菌浓度均较低,分别为3.125与62.5 mg/mL;其次是细辛、葡萄籽、川芎、毛蕨、苦参、麻黄根、皂角刺、荆芥、独活、杜仲、五加皮等物种,其生药提取物的最低抑菌浓度和最低杀菌浓度分别约为10.0、150 mg/mL。当肉桂、丁香、黄芩提取物的浓度达到2.0 mg/mL时,此3种植物提取物处理组的间座壳菌菌丝干质量均在0.05 mg以下,而其葡萄座腔菌菌丝干质量均在0.1 mg以下;当提取物的处理浓度达到2.0 mg/mL时,肉桂、丁香、黄芩提取物处理组的果实发病率与对照之间分别大约相差31.94%、41.24%、37.60%,说明各处理均能有效降低猕猴桃果实的发病率。【结论】植物提取物作为一种新型植物源保鲜剂为猕猴桃果实长期高效、绿色、环保贮藏提供了方向,具有一定的实用意义。  相似文献

Twenty plant materials collected from the islands of Java and Kalimantan in Indonesia were extracted with 50% aqueous ethanol (crude extract). The crude extracts were assayed for antimicrobial activities against Streptococcus sobrinus and for glucosyltransferase (GTase) inhibition. Fourteen extracts inhibited the growth of S. sobrinus by more than 50% and six extracts inhibited GTase activity by more than 50% at a concentration of 100 μg/ml. Koompassia malaccensis (kempas) extracts showed 90% depression of S. sobrinus growth and 80% inhibition of GTase activity at a concentration of 100 μg/ml. Kempas crude extracts were subjected to column chromatography using Sephadex LH-20 and then preparative high-performance liquid chromatography to isolate four compounds A, B, C, and D. These compounds were identified as taxifolin and the flavanonol rhamnoside isomers neoastilbin, astilbin, and isoastilbin, respectively, from 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and other two-dimensional NMR techniques (COSY, HMBC, and HMQC). Each compound depressed the growth of S. sobrinus over a concentration range of 9.3242.7 μg/ml and showed GTase inhibitory activity with IC50 values in the range 27.4–57.3 μg/ml. Taxifolin and flavanonol rhamnoside isomers isolated for the first time from kempas could be potent compounds for preventing dental caries.
