This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary energy density and weaning environment on pig performance. Treatment diets were formulated to vary in DE concentration by changing the relative proportions of low (barley) and high (wheat, oat groats, and canola oil) energy ingredients. In Exp. 1, 84 pigs in each of 3 replications, providing a total of 252 pigs, were weaned at 17 x 2 d of age and randomly assigned to either an on-site or an off-site nursery and to 1 of 3 dietary DE concentrations (3.35, 3.50, or 3.65 Mcal/kg). Each site consisted of a nursery containing 6 pens; 3 pens housed 7 barrows and 3 housed 7 gilts. All pigs received nontreatment diets in phase I (17 to 19 d of age) and phase II (20 to 25 d of age), respectively. Dietary treatments were fed from 25 to 56 d of age. Off-site pigs were heavier at 56 d of age (23.4 vs. 21.3 kg; P < 0.05) and had greater ADFI (0.77 vs. 0.69 kg/d; P < 0.01) than on-site pigs. There was a linear decrease in ADG (P < 0.01) and ADFI (P < 0.001) with increasing DE concentration. Efficiency of gain improved (P < 0.01) with increasing DE concentration. There was no interaction between weaning site and diet DE concentration, indicating that on-site and off-site pigs responded similarly to changes in diet DE concentration. In Exp. 2, nutrient digestibility of the treatment diets used in Exp. 1 was determined using 36 pigs with either ad libitum or feed intake restricted to 5.5% of BW. Energy and N digestibility increased (P < 0.001) with increasing DE concentration. Nitrogen retention and daily DE intake increased with DE concentration in pigs fed the restricted amount of feed (P < 0.05). These results indicate that weaning off-site improves pig weight gain. The weanling pig was able to compensate for reduced dietary DE concentration through increased feed intake. Growth limitation in the weanling pig may not be overcome simply by increasing dietary DE concentration. 相似文献

The effects of supplementation of 10?mg/kg (i) apoester, (ii) canthaxanthin, (iii) 3% clover extract, (iv) paprika oleoresin and (v) aztec marigold extract pigments to a wheat-based non-pigmented feed on hatchery performance and egg yolk pigmentation in quail breeders were investigated. At six weeks of age a total of 432 Japanese quail breeders were randomly divided into 6 treatments, each of which was replicated 3 times, with 24 birds (18 female:6 male) per replicate. Hatchability was significantly better in the apoester treatment compared to the control, canthaxanthin, clover extract and paprika oleoresin treatments ( p?.05) but similar to the aztec marigold treatment ( p?>?.05). Total carotenoids concentration, YCF score, yellowness ( b*) and redness ( a*) of egg yolk were significantly higher in pigment-supplemented treatments compared to the control treatment ( p?.05). The responses in semen volume and spermatozoal concentration of 48 caged male broiler breeder fowls fed on a restricted quantity of food containing 80, 110, 152, 210, 290 or 400 g crude protein (CP)/kg from 18 to 64 weeks of age were studied. 2. The proportion of males producing semen declined with increasing dietary crude protein content and resulted in a significant decrease in total semen volume and spermatozoa production. 3. The relationship between the concentration of spermatozoa in the semen and dietary crude protein was negative but trivial. There were no relationships between dietary crude protein content and semen volume or the metabolic activity of spermatozoa. 4. The metabolic activity of spermatozoa was lower at 25 compared with 37 weeks of age. 5. The proportion of males giving semen peaked between 32 and 42 weeks of age. The relationship between age and semen volume and concentration of spermatozoa was negative and linear. 6. Blood plasma uric acid concentration increased linearly above 106 g CP/kg and males on 400 g CP/kg developed articular gout and had to be destroyed. 相似文献

Three experiments involving 304 pigs were conducted to determine the related effects of copper (Cu), calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) on the performance and liver Cu stores of growing-finishing pigs. Rate and efficiency of gain were improved by the addition of 250 ppm of Cu to the diets. Improvements in rate of gain averaged 6.6% (652 vs 696 g/d) to 60.5 kg body weight and 1.7% (713 vs 725 g/d) to 94.5 kg body weight. Feed:gain ratio was improved by 1.4% to 60.5 kg and 1.6% to 94.5 kg body weight when Cu was added to the diet. Increasing the dietary Ca and P levels from .65% Ca and .55% P to 1.2% Ca and .86 or 1.0% P resulted in increased (P less than .01) growth rate to 60 and 95 kg (649 vs 699 g/d and 700 vs 737 g/d, respectively), but feed efficiency was not affected (2.86 vs 2.84 and 3.18 vs 3.17 kg feed/kg gain, respectively.) Feeding the higher Ca and P levels resulted in increased liver Cu levels in pigs fed 250 ppm Cu (189 vs 323 ppm), but Ca and P did not affect liver Cu of pigs fed low Cu diets (29 vs 28 ppm). When dietary Ca and P were varied independently, the high Ca level increased liver Cu, but P had little effect on liver Cu. Sixty white hybrid (Shaver 288) laying hens were subjected to three main dietary regimens for 5 d: ad libitum feeding of control and CuSO 4‐supplemented diets, force‐feeding these same diets to the same intake as that of the ad libitum control diet and pair‐feeding the control CuSO 4‐free diet to intakes equivalent to those of supplemented diets. 2. Final body weight of the force‐fed birds was significantly greater than of the other groups. Egg number and weight were significantly reduced as food intake decreased. 3. Liver weight per unit body weight was significantly increased and oviduct and ovary weights/kg body weight were significantly reduced by force‐feeding. As food intake decreased kidney and gizzard weights per unit body weight were significantly increased. 4. The concentrations and total contents of Cu and Zn in liver were significantly increased in the ad libitum and force‐fed groups. 5. Force‐feeding CuSO4‐supplemented diets, which eliminated difference in food intake, confirmed that CuSO4 per se affected tissue weights and mineral concentrations as distinct from effects due to the reduced food intake associated with increasing dietary CuSO4. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of various levels of supplemental calcium iodate (CI) on productive performance, egg quality, blood indices and iodine (I) accumulation in the eggs in commercial laying hens. A total of 240 White Leghorn layers (Hy‐line W36) were divided through a completely randomized design into six treatments with five replicates and eight hens per each at 32 weeks of age. This experiment lasted for 12 weeks. Concentrations of I in the mash diets were 0.74, 3.13, 5.57, 8.11, 10.65 and 12.94 mg I/kg of feed in treatments 1–6 respectively. The added doses of CI were included 0.0 (control), 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 and 12.5 mg/kg of diet for treatments 1–6 respectively. There were no significant differences in productive performance among the treatments. The highest eggshell strength was observed in group fed diet containing 3.13 mg I/kg ( p = .014). The highest percentage of calcium and lowest percentage of phosphorus in eggshell were observed in group fed diet containing 12.94 mg I/kg ( p = .0001). Feeding hens with diet containing 12.94 mg I/kg increased serum triiodothyronine‐to‐thyroxine ratio ( p = .0001). Serum alanine aminotransferase activity in hens fed diet containing 12.94 mg I/kg was significantly more than control ( p = .041). Blood Serum triglycerides in hens fed diet containing 8.11 mg I/kg were significantly higher than control ( p = .0001). Edible fraction of the eggs of birds fed diet containing 12.94 mg I/kg was enriched by I almost 3 times more than those fed diet containing 0.74 mg I/kg. The results suggested that egg production, egg mass, feed intake and feed conversion ratio were not significantly affected by dietary I levels. Iodine accumulation in the eggs were increased by increasing dietary I levels and the level of 10 mg/kg CI could supply I enrichment of the eggs. 相似文献

A finishing trial and a metabolism trial were conducted to determine the effect of supplemental metabolizable Lys level on finishing calf performance and to estimate the metabolizable Lys requirement of finishing calves. The finishing trial included 60 individually fed crossbred beef steer calves (237 kg; SD = 20 kg) supplemented with either incremental amounts of rumen-protected Lys and Met, or Met alone. Addition of Lys and Met improved gains and efficiencies (quadratic; P < .02) during the first 56 d. There was no response to supplemental Met alone, suggesting that supplemental Lys rather than Met was responsible for the improvement in performance. Using nonlinear analyses to compare gain relative to supplemental Lys intake, maximum gain was determined to be 2.10 kg/d, or .27 kg/d above the zero Lys control, at a supplemental Lys intake of 2.56 g/d. Steers supplemented with 3 and 4 g of Lys had a weight advantage over the control steers of 16 kg at 56 d and 32 kg at the end of the 161-d trial. However, there were no statistical responses to Lys or Met during any periods after 56 d. During a separate metabolism trial, four steers fed the control finishing diet were slaughtered, and abomasal contents were collected for amino acid analyses. The predicted (Level 1 NRC, 1996) metabolizable protein flow to the abomasum for the control diet was 715 g/d, and the predicted Lys flow was 37.9 g/d. A supplemental Lys intake of 2.56 g/d would increase the Lys flow to 40.5 g/d. Feedlot diets low in ruminal escape protein may be deficient in metabolizable Lys, especially early in the feeding period. 1. The purpose of the study was to determine the stability of dietary ascorbic acid and the reproductive responses of broiler breeder chickens to supplemental 75 mg ascorbic acid/kg diet. 2. Six breeder flocks of 13,000 birds each were studied. Egg production, eggshell porosity, fertility, hatchability and plasma ascorbic acid were measured. 3. Storage of the diets under dry heat resulted in a linear decrease in ascorbic acid content and the rate of decline was 5-fold higher in the supplemented diet. 4. Differences were not detected between treatments in egg production, egg weight, eggshell porosity, fertility, hatchability or plasma ascorbic acid. 5. An experiment was conducted to examine the effects of supplementing feed with hesperidin or α‐tocopheryl acetate on lambs' growth performance, carcass and meat characteristics. Sixteen male lambs were randomly assigned to four groups. One of the groups served as control and was given a basal diet, whereas the other three groups were given the same diet further supplemented with hesperidin at 1500 mg/kg, or hesperidin at 3000 mg/kg, or α‐tocopheryl acetate at 200 mg/kg. At the end of the experiment, lambs were fasted, weighed and slaughtered. After overnight chilling, samples of Longissimus thoracis muscle were taken and were used for meat quality evaluation. No significant differences were observed in final body weight, body weight gain and organ weights among the four groups. pH, color, water‐holding capacity, shear force values and intramuscular fat concentration of Longissimus thoracis muscle were also not significantly influenced by the dietary treatments. Measurement of lipid oxidation values showed that hesperidin supplementation positively influenced meat antioxidant properties during refrigerated storage. 相似文献

1. Four different sources of calcium in isonitrogenous and isoenergeric diets were fed to laying hens for 2 weeks when they were 56 and 57 weeks old. The calcium source blends were as follows: 29% fine limestone (LF)+71% large limestone (LG), 32% LF+68% eggshell, 32% LF+68% oyster shell, 50% LF+50% LG. The contents of these blends of calcium in the diets were as follows: 103.3, 93.3, 93.3 and 93.3 g/kg, respectively. 2. The coefficients of calcium retention were significantly higher in 50:50 LF:LG (0.578) and 32:68 LF:eggshell (0.576). The midnight feeding significantly improved the coefficient of calcium retention in all mixtures except 50:50 LF:LG. 3. In the mixtures 29:71 LF:LG and 32:68 LF:oyster shell, there were significantly greater eggshell quality, eggshell weight, eggshell thickness and eggshell strength. Midnight feeding had no significant effect on eggshell quality. 4. In the ration with oyster shells, 96.5% of the retained calcium was deposited in the eggshell, but in rations 32:68 LF:eggshell and 50:50 LF:LG the utilisation was only 73.9 and 78.6%, respectively. 5. To ensure good quality eggshells in the last third of production, the recommendation for calcium is 4.1 g/kg (900 g/kg dry matter, feed intake 110 g/d). 1. Broiler breeder hens were used in an experiment lasting 10 weeks (29 to 38 weeks of age) to measure the responses to dietary lysine and methionine, the main objective being to determine whether the coefficients of response to these amino acids were the same for broiler breeders and for laying pullets. 2. The hens were offered 150 g/d of one of 20 dietary treatments, 10 being lysine-limiting and 10 being methionine-limiting. The diets were mixed by diluting one of two concentrate (summit) mixes with a protein-free dilution mixture. The lysine-limiting summit diet was designed to supply approximately 1300 mg lysine/bird d, while the other supplied 520 mg methionine/bird d, when fed at 150 g/bird d. 3. Birds on the 5 lowest concentrations of both lysine and methionine did not consume the allotted amount of food, the amount decreasing, in a curvilinear fashion, to approximately 105 g/bird d. 4. The minimum egg weight recorded was 0.8 of the maximum, whereas the rate of lay of birds fed on the diets with the lowest amino acid concentrations was 0.2 of the maximum. 5. Using the Reading Model, the coefficients of response were calculated to be (for lysine) 16.88 E and 11.2 W, and for methionine, 7.03 E and 1.52 W, where E = egg output, g/bird d, and W = body mass, kg/bird. An average, individual, broiler breeder of 3 kg, producing 45 g of egg output per day, would need 793 mg of lysine and 321 mg of methionine daily. This intake of methionine is similar to that estimated by means of coefficients used for laying pullets, but the lysine requirement would be underestimated by 0.18 if the coefficients for laying pullets were used. 6. The coefficients for maintenance for both lysine and methionine, determined in this experiment, are considerably lower than values published previously, whilst the coefficients for egg output are, in both cases, higher. 为了探讨日粮钙水平对泌乳水牛生产性能的影响,本试验选用12头胎次、泌乳时间、泌乳量相近的水牛,随机分成4组,每组3头水牛。采用4×4拉丁方试验方法,4组水牛基础日粮中钙含量分别占基础日粮干物质的0.47%、0.62%、0.78%、0.93%,其他营养成分均相同,其中磷占采食干物质比例为0.50%;共4期试验,每一试验期21 d,其中预饲期7 d,正饲期14 d。试验结果表明:1、不同钙水平日粮对泌乳水牛的产奶性能影响不显著(P>0.05),但0.78%钙水平日粮组水牛的产奶量分别比其他3组提高5.4%、5.5%、3.9%,不同钙水平对水牛奶营养成分影响不显著(P>0.05)。2、不同钙水平日粮对水牛血浆中钙含量影响差异显著(P<0.05);随着日粮钙水平的上升,水牛血液甲状旁腺素和1,25二羟基维生素D呈显著下降趋势(P<0.05)。综合各指标,日粮钙占采食干物质的比例为0.78%能进一步提高泌乳水牛产奶量。 相似文献

A total of 72 H&;N Brown Nick laying hens, 76 weeks of age (moulted at 60 weeks of age), were randomly assigned into a 3?×?3 factorial arrangement with three limestone particle sizes and three dietary Ca concentrations (30, 36 and 42?g/kg Ca); with 8 replicates per treatments, and one hen (individual) per experimental unit. 2. Particle sizes of the limestone were: distributions smaller than 2?mm (Fine), between 2 to 5?mm (Medium), and larger than 5?mm (Large). The fine, medium and large limestone particles were all obtained from the same source, and sieve sizes used had screen sizes 2?mm and 5?mm. 3. The different concentrations of dietary Ca, particle size or interactions had no significant effect on egg production, egg weight, egg mass, feed intake or feed conversion ratio. 4. The concentrations of dietary Ca and particle sizes had no significant effect on egg breaking strength, eggshell as % by weight of whole egg or eggshell thickness. The interactions between Ca concentrations and particle sizes had a significant effect on eggshell breaking strength, but not on other parameters. 5. Different dietary particle sizes had no significant effect on the Ca, P and Mg mineral contents of eggshell. While the different concentrations of Ca in diets had a significant effect on the P content of eggshell, they had no significant effect on Ca and Mg contents. 6. Different dietary concentrations of Ca had a significant effect on shear stress, and Ca and Mg contents of tibiae, but not other parameters. Also, dietary particle sizes had a significant effect on shear stress and Ca contents of tibiae. The interaction between Ca concentrations and particle sizes had a significant effect on tibia shear force and Ca content. 7. According to the results of this study, moulted brown laying hens should be fed 36?g/kg Ca and a medium limestone particle size (2–5?mm) in the diet to maintain performance, eggshell and bone quality. 相似文献
