Growth, feed efficiency and proximate and lipid class composition of subadults Octopus vulgaris (788 ± 133 g; 18.5°C) fed formulated diets of low lipid (LL: 8 g kg?1) and high lipid levels (HL: 84 g kg?1) and each one of these with three different levels of glutamate supplementation (0, 5 and 20 g kg?1) were compared. All the animals accepted the diets with a survival of 100%. The addition of glutamate did not stimulate feeding rates in any of the assays (2.48–2.64 and 1.86–2.01%Body weight day?1 for LL and HL, respectively; P > 0.05). The best growth, feed efficiency and protein productive value were observed in the groups fed 5 or 20 g kg?1 glutamate supplementation at both lipid levels, with significant differences for LL diet (P < 0.05). A better feed efficiency was achieved with the HL diet (14.6–27.5% vs. 2.5–19.2% for LL diet). There were no significant differences in the proximate composition of carcass (animal excluding the digestive gland). However, a substantial amount of lipids accumulated in the digestive gland, mainly triglycerides, was detected as a consequence of higher lipid ingestion or glutamate supplementation. It was notable the lower percentages of phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine in the digestive gland of animals with best growth.  相似文献

Under controlled laboratory conditions, juvenile green abalone Haliotis fulgens were fed rehydrated natural feeds to determine the effects on growth, survival, feed efficiency and biochemical composition of the digestive gland and muscle. Five macroalgae, Ulva sp. (Chlorophyta), Eisenia arborea, Macrocystis pyrifera, Egregia menziesii (Phaeophyta) and Porphyra perforata (Rhodophyta) were tested. The macroalgae promoted growth, although, depending on the species, there were considerable differences in growth, feed efficiency and biochemical composition of the digestive gland and muscle. Mean growth rate in length and weight and survival rate varied within the ranges 1.6–15.1 μm day?1, 1.4–8.1 mg day?1 and 44–69%, respectively. Significantly, higher growth rates were obtained from Egregia menziesii, M. pyrifera and P. perforata. Feed conversion ratio ranged from 6.5 to 42.4 for P. perforata and Ulva sp. Protein, carbohydrates and lipid contents in the digestive gland ranged from 113 to 180, 98.3 to 448 and 17.2 to 23.3 mg g?1, respectively. In muscle, the ranges were 66.9–123, 9.5–23.2 and 2.8–3.9 mg g?1, respectively. This study shows that rehydrated Egregia menziesii, M. pyrifera and, particularly, P. perforata are more efficient in promoting growth than Ulva sp. and E. arborea which match results reported by other authors when using the same fresh macroalgae.  相似文献

To investigate effects of iron (Fe) on growth, haematological parameters, flesh quality and antioxidant status in muscle, young grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) (292.0 ± 3.2 g) were fed graded levels of Fe (20.7, 38.4, 52.8, 79.3, 98.0 and 120.0 mg kg?1 diet) for 8 weeks. Per cent weight gain (PWG) and feed intake were improved with Fe levels up to 52.8 mg kg?1 diet. Serum Fe, erythrocyte counts, haemoglobin (Hb), haematocrit and mean cell haemoglobin increased with optimal Fe levels (38.4–79.3 mg kg?1 diet) (< 0.05). The muscle protein and lipid contents were increased by dietary Fe, whereas moisture, liquid loss, shear force and hydroxyproline contents followed opposite trends. Malondialdehyde and protein carbonyl contents in muscle were the lowest in fish fed the 52.8 or 79.3 mg Fe kg?1 diet, respectively, while superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione‐S‐transferase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase activities, and glutathione content were increased by Fe levels up to 52.8–79.3 mg kg?1 diet. Results indicated that the optimal Fe improved growth, flesh quality and muscle antioxidant defence of young grass carp. Dietary Fe requirements for PWG, serum Fe and Hb of young grass carp (292–695 g) were 73.5, 72.8 and 69.0 mg kg?1 diet, respectively.  相似文献

Four semi‐moist formulated feeds were supplied to Octopus vulgaris subadults (664 ± 70 g; 18.4 ± 0.7°C) in two different experiments. In the experiment #1, two diets were prepared with a new mixture of binders (gelatine 150 g kg?1, starch 100 g kg?1 and gum 50 g kg?1). The GEL15‐Squid and GEL15‐Hake feeds included 100 g kg?1 freeze‐dried squid (Todarodes sagittatus) or hake (Merluccius sp.) respectively. Both feeds showed low water disintegration rates at 24 h (13.6–15.0% dry weight). The specific feeding rate was higher in animals fed GEL15‐Hake (2.7%BW day?1), but the growth and feed efficiency were significantly better in animals fed GEL15‐Squid (1.4%BW day?1 and 61.2% respectively; P < 0.05). The proximate composition of the digestive gland, carcass and whole animals was similar. In the experiment #2, the GEL15‐Squid amino acid profile was improved by replacing 50 g kg?1 gelatine by 50 g kg?1 freeze‐dried squid (GEL10‐Squid) or freeze‐dried fish (GEL10‐Fish). These feeds showed higher water disintegration rates (31.7–36.3% dry weight). The feeding rates (2.2–2.3%BW day?1), growth (1.5%BW day?1) and feed efficiency were similar for both diets. Total lipids were higher in the digestive gland and whole animals fed GEL10‐Fish diet (P < 0.05). Future effort could be directed towards alternative binders that allow improve amino acid balance with a minimum gelatine content or even supplementation trials including essential amino acids.  相似文献

Most nutritional studies on Octopus vulgaris were based on males to avoid interaction with reproductive processes, focusing on muscle and digestive gland tissues. This study intends to evaluate the effect of two fresh diets, a fish diet (bogue Boops boops) and a mixed diet (600 g kg?1 crab Portunus pelagicus and 400 g kg?1 bogue), on the biochemical composition of muscle, digestive gland and gonad in males and females of O. vulgaris. Six octopuses per diet were selected (n = 3 per sex) after 60 days of rearing in floating cages. Weight increase was higher in males (3–3.2 kg) than in females (0.9 kg) regardless of diet associated with sexual maturation. Gondosomatic Index in females was 11.3–13.4%. High‐lipid content in fish (440 g kg?1 dw) was reflected in digestive gland regardless of the diet, while muscle and testis showed a relatively stable composition. The increase in protein content in the ovary was related to sexual maturation. The low arachidonic content in bogue was reflected in all tissues, with no apparent negative effect on growth and welfare. However, specific retention of arachidonic in the gonads, related to high arachidonic content in crab, underlined the importance of this fatty acid in for gonad development in O. vulgaris.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to quantify the dietary thiamin (experiment I) and pyridoxine (experiment II) requirements of fingerling Cirrhinus mrigala for 16 weeks. In experiment I, dietary thiamin requirement was determined by feeding seven casein–gelatin‐based diets (400 g kg?1 CP; 18.69 kJ g?1 GE) with graded levels of thiamin (0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 mg kg?1 diet) to triplicate groups of fish (6.15 ± 0.37 cm; 1.89 ± 0.12 g). Fish fed diet with 2 mg kg?1 thiamin had highest specific growth rate (SGR), protein retention (PR), RNA/DNA ratio, haemoglobin (Hb), haematocrit (Hct), RBCs and best feed conversion ratio (FCR). However, highest liver thiamin concentration was recorded in fish fed 4 mg thiamin kg?1 diet. Broken‐line analysis of SGR, PR and liver thiamin concentrations exhibited the thiamin requirement in the range of 1.79–3.34 mg kg?1 diet (0.096–0.179 μg thiamin kJ?1 gross energy). In experiment II, six casein–gelatin‐based diets (400 g kg?1 CP; 18.69 kJ g?1 GE) containing graded levels of pyridoxine (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mg kg?1 diet) were fed to triplicate groups of fish (6.35 ± 0.37 cm; 1.97 ± 0.12 g). Fish fed diet containing 6 mg kg?1 pyridoxine showed best SGR, FCR, PR, RNA/DNA ratio, Hb, Hct and RBCs, whereas maximum liver pyridoxine concentration was recorded in fish fed 8 mg kg?1 dietary pyridoxine. Broken‐line analysis of SGR, PR and liver pyridoxine concentrations reflected the pyridoxine requirement from 5.63 to 8.61 mg kg?1 diet. Data generated during this study would be useful in formulating thiamin‐ and pyridoxine‐balanced feeds for the intensive culture of this fish.  相似文献

Anaesthetics are used in aquaculture and fisheries to facilitate routine procedures, such as capture, handling, transportation, tagging, grading and measurements that can often cause injury or induce physiological stress. Two experiments were performed to assess the efficacies of four anaesthetic agents, clove oil, benzocaine, 2‐phenoxyethanol and MS‐222 on juvenile marbled spinefoot rabbitfish (Siganus rivulatus). In the first experiment we tested the lowest effective doses that produced induction and recovery times in 3 min or less and 5 min or less respectively. Dosages were 70 mg L?1 for clove oil, 60–70 mg L?1 for benzocaine, 400 μL L?1 for 2‐phenoxyethanol and 100–125 mg L?1 for MS‐222. In the second experiment, we determined optimal concentrations of the four anaesthetics if they were to be used to transport rabbitfish fry. Anaesthetic concentrations suitable for handling and transport were: 10–15 mg L?1 of MS‐222, 5–10 mg L?1 of benzocaine, 5 mg L?1 of clove oil and 50–100 μL L?1 of 2‐phenoxyethanol. All anaesthetic agents are acceptable for use on S. rivulatus, however, 2‐phenoxyethanol, MS‐222 and clove oil appear to be more suitable than benzocaine. Further studies need to be conducted on effects of high and low doses of anaesthetic agents on physiology of marbled spinefoot.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to test the capacity of Octopus vulgaris to use carbohydrates supplied in three diets: a diet without added carbohydrates (diet C0: 500 g kg?1 water, 200 g kg?1 gelatine, 100 g kg?1 egg yolk powder, 50 g kg?1 freeze‐dried Sardinella aurita and 150 g kg?1 freeze‐dried Todarodes sagittatus) and two obtained by substituting 50 g kg?1 of T. sagittatus by glucose (diet GLU50) or by starch (diet STA50). The most stable and best‐accepted diet was STA50 (SFR 1.26%BW day?1) although there were no significant differences in the growth rates obtained with the three diets: 10.12 g day?1, 9.37 g day?1 and 11.22 g day?1 for C0, GLU50 and STA50, respectively (P > 0.05). The feed efficiency indices were better for GLU50, of particular note being the protein productive value of 71.88% and a feed conversion ratio lower than 1. Protein and lipid digestibility were similar in all the three diets (96–98% for proteins and 85–94% for lipids), whereas carbohydrate digestibility was higher in GLU50 (98%) than in C0 (84%) and STA50 (0.33%). The content of carbohydrates increased in muscle and the digestive gland as a consequence of the increased carbohydrates intake.  相似文献

This feeding trial was conducted to determine the vitamin E requirement of sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) and to study the effects of vitamin E on nonspecific immune parameters. Commercial sea cucumber diets supplemented with 0, 50, 100, 200, 500 or 1000 mg kg?1 vitamin E were fed to juvenile sea cucumber (7.96 ± 0.01 g) for 60 days. Specific growth rate and total coelomocyte counts were maximized in sea cucumber fed diets supplemented with 100 mg kg?1 vitamin E. Reactive oxygen species production was maximized at 50 mg kg?1 vitamin E, whereas superoxide dismutase activity was the highest in sea cucumber fed diets supplemented with 100 mg kg?1 vitamin E. The vitamin E concentration in the body wall of the sea cucumber increased as the vitamin E level in the diet increased. Analysis of specific growth rate and total coelomocyte counts of the sea cucumber indicated that 88–92 mg kg?1 vitamin E is required for maximal growth and nonspecific immune responses of A. japonicus and that 114.7 mg kg?1 vitamin E is required to minimize lipid peroxidation levels.  相似文献

A 60‐day feeding trial was conducted to determine the effects of different dietary vitamin C levels on growth performance, immune response and antioxidant capacity of loach juveniles. Six isonitrogenous (58.6% of crude protein), isoenergetic (17.5 kJ g?1) practical diets supplemented with 0 (VC0), 100 (VC100), 200 (VC200), 500 (VC500), 1000 (VC1000) and 5000 mg kg?1 (VC5000) of VC (35% ascorbic acid equivalent) were fed to fish (mean initial weight 0.11 ± 0.02 g) in triplicate. Results showed that fish fed VC0 diet had significantly lower body weight gain (BWG) and survival rate (SR). However, BWG and SR improved significantly in fish fed VC100 and VC200 diet respectively. Whole body ascorbic acid concentration increased with incremental dietary VC levels from 0 to 100 mg kg?1. The activity of mucus alkaline phophatase was significantly increased by the dietary VC level. Incremental levels of VC significantly reduced activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase. Moreover, fish fed diets containing more than 100 mg kg?1 VC significantly down‐regulated the superoxide dismutase and GPx mRNA expression in liver. Meanwhile, the expressions of liver heat shock protein (HSP70) and nuclear factor‐erythroid 2‐related‐2 (Nrf2) were affected by fish fed diets containing VC from 100 to 5000 mg kg?1. In conclusion, VC requirement of loach juveniles for optimum growth and functionally preventing lipid peroxidation was more than 200 mg kg?1 of diet. Moreover, high dose of VC supplementation did not show any detrimental effects on loach growth performance.  相似文献

The present study evaluated various sodium and potassium concentrations in hatchery water to determine which proportions would be optimal for Macrobrachium rosenbergii larviculture. Using a closed RAS system (60‐L), experiments were conducted in two stages. In the first stage, larval quality parameters were compared among triplicate treatments of sodium (2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 mg L?1) and potassium (100, 150, 200 and 250 mg L?1). During the second stage, these same parameters were compared from interactions of the two best concentrations determined in the first stage. Initial larval density was fixed at 100 larvae L?1 and larval quality parameters such as larval stage index (LSI), larval condition index (LCI), larvae dry weight, survival (%), LC50‐24 h for formalin stress and time of the first postlarvae (PL) appearance were measured. Results showed that during the early larval period time LSI, LCI and survival parameters were affected only by potassium and the interaction with sodium was not significant. At a later period of the larval development, interactions between both sodium and potassium were measurable for LSI (< 0.05) while the interactions on LCI and survival were not significant. Measurable differences among the combined treatments 4000 mg L?1 sodium and 150 mg L?1 potassium resulted in the best performance for M. rosenbergii larviculture. This concentration also provided the highest final survival to PL metamorphosis (40.6 ± 2.5%) which was at least 10% higher than the other treatments.  相似文献

This study was aimed at quantifying methionine requirement of Indian major carp fry, Cirrhinus mrigala (2.2 ± 0.2 cm; 0.19 ± 0.02 g) by conducting a 12‐week feeding trial. Casein–gelatine‐based isonitrogenous (40 g 100 g?1 crude protein) and isoenergetic (15.42 kJ g?1 DE) amino acid test diets were prepared to contain six levels of l ‐methionine (1.1, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7, 1.9 and 2.1 g 100 g?1 dry diet) at a fixed level of cysteine (0.85 g 100 g?1 dry diet) and fed to apparent satiation thrice daily to triplicate groups of fish. When absolute weight gain (g per fish), feed conversion ratio, protein deposition (g per fish) and nitrogen retention efficiency data were subjected to broken‐line and second‐degree polynomial regression analysis, 95% of the plateau of above parameters was achieved at dietary methionine concentrations between 1.60 and 1.69 g 100 g?1 dry diet or 0.10 to 0.11 g methionine kJ?1 DE, corresponding to 4.1–4.22 g 100 g?1 protein or 0.44–0.47 g methionine kJ?1 DE. Based on these results, dietary methionine requirement of fry C. mrigala is recommended 1.60–1.69 g 100 g?1 diet or 0.10–0.11 g methionine kJ?1 DE.  相似文献

A 75 days experiment was conducted in a flow‐through system on juvenile gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) (3.43 ± 0.01 g) to evaluate the effects of dietary lysozyme on growth performance, intestine morphology, microbiota and immune response. Four isonitrogenous (crude protein: 367 g kg?1) isolipid (62 g kg?1) and isocaloric (gross energy: 17.92 kJ g?1) diets were formulated to contain 0, 100, 500 and 1000 mg kg?1 lysozyme, respectively. The results showed that specific growth rate (SGR) and feed efficiency (FE) increased at 1000 mg kg?1 lysozyme. Blood leucocyte phagocytic activity (PA) and serum lysozyme (LZM) decreased with dietary lysozyme on day 25, 50 and 75. There were no significant differences in alternative complement pathway (ACP), respiratory burst (ROS), serum superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSHpx) or malonaldehyde (MDA). After Aeromonas hydrophilia challenge, higher survival was obtained at 500 mg kg?1 group. PA, ROS, SOD, LZM and ACP increased with increasing dietary lysozyme, while MDA reversed. Goblet cells in mid‐intestine and microvilli height in distal intestine increased with dietary lysozyme on day 75. Dietary lysozyme reduced the diversity of intestine microbiota. In conclusion, oral administration of 500 mg kg?1 dietary lysozyme for 75 days is recommended for the survival of gibel carp and 1000 mg kg?1 dietary lysozyme for fast growth.  相似文献

A 17‐week feeding trial was carried out to evaluate the effects of dietary L‐carnitine level in beluga, Huso huso. A total of fish averaging 1247 ± 15.6 g (mean ± SD) were randomly distributed into 18 fibreglass tanks, and each tank holding 10 fish was then randomly assigned to one of three replicates of six diets with 50, 150, 350, 650, 950 and 1250 mg L‐carnitine kg?1 diet. At the end of 17 weeks of feeding trial, average weight gain (WG), feed efficiency (FE), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and condition factor (CF) of fish fed 350 mg kg?1 diet were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those of fish fed 50, 150, 950 and 1250 mg kg?1 diets. WG, FE, PER and CF of beluga fed 650 mg kg?1 diet were also significantly higher than those of fish fed 50, 950 and 1250 mg kg?1 diets. Whole body and muscle protein were significantly improved by the elevation of dietary L‐carnitine level up to 350 mg kg?1. Liver superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities of fish fed 350 and 650 mg kg?1 diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed 50, 950 and 1250 mg kg?1 diets. The dietary L‐carnitine level of 350–650 mg kg?1 diet could improve growth performance, feed utilization, protein‐sparing effects of lipid, antioxidant defence system and reproductive success. Polynomial regression of WG suggested that the optimum dietary L‐carnitine level was 480 mg kg?1 diet. Therefore, these results may indicate that the optimum dietary L‐carnitine could be higher than 350 but <650 mg kg?1 diet in beluga reared in intensive culture conditions.  相似文献

To study the effects of manganese on growth performance, digestive and absorptive abilities, as well as the antioxidative capacity in the hepatopancreas and intestine, young grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus Val.) (264 ± 1 g) were fed diets containing graded levels of manganese at 3.65 (control), 8.62, 13.48, 18.24, 22.97 and 27.86 mg kg?1 diet for 8 weeks. Per cent weight gain (PWG) and feed intake were the poorest in fish fed the basal diet (< 0.05). The activities of trypsin, lipase and alkaline phosphatase in the intestine were significantly enhanced with dietary manganese level at 13.48 mg kg?1 diet (P < 0.05). Additionally, in the hepatopancreas and intestine, the protein carbonyl and malondialdehyde contents were the lowest in fish fed the diet with dietary manganese level at 13.48 mg kg?1 diet (< 0.05), while the anti‐hydroxyl radical capacities, manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), glutathione peroxidase and glutathione‐S‐transferase activities were significantly enhanced with dietary manganese level at 13.48 mg kg?1 diet (< 0.05). Moreover, the catalase activity and glutathione content in the intestine were the highest in fish fed the diet with dietary manganese level at 18.24 mg kg?1 diet (< 0.05). These results indicated that optimum dietary manganese promoted growth, enhanced the digestive and absorptive abilities, and improved the antioxidative capacity in young grass carp. Based on the quadratic regression analysis for PWG and intestinal MnSOD activity, the manganese requirements for young grass carp with the initial body weight of 264 g were 16.91 and 18.21 mg kg?1 diet respectively.  相似文献

One of the bottlenecks for the queen conch, Strombus gigas, aquaculture is the lack of well‐adapted formulated food for optimal growth. The goals of this study were to analyse the digestive gland structure of conchs fed with different diets using histochemical techniques and to evaluate the growth and survival of S. gigas juveniles with nine formulated diets (protein from 190 to 380 g kg?1 and lipids from 26 to 82 g kg?1). Proteoglycan granules and acidophilic granules were detected in the digestive cells. The abundance of both granule types was variable, according to the nutritional state of the animals. The granular content of the digestive cells of conchs fed with artificial diets was scarce when compared with conchs fed on natural food. Of the nine formulated feeds, the diet with 365 and 45 g kg?1 of protein and lipids, respectively, gave the best growth in weight (0.20 g day?1) and was also associated with digestive cells in the best condition as determined histologically. Histochemical analysis of the digestive gland differentiated with Alcian blue staining determines the nutritional status much better than a simple growth index and is therefore more useful in assessing adjustments to the feed formulation to meet the real needs of conchs.  相似文献

An 8‐week study was conducted to determine folic acid requirement and its effect on antioxidant capacity and immunity in juvenile Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis (Milne‐Edwards, 1853), followed by a challenge assay with the pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila for 2 weeks. Folic acid was added to a basal diet at seven levels (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0, 16.0 mg folic acid kg?1 diet), and a diet free of folic acid and vitamin B12 was also included as a control. Crabs were fed twice daily in 32 tanks with 7.76–8.17 mg oxygen L?1, 25.0–31.0 °C and 7.5–8.3 pH. Growth and feed efficiency were significantly greater in crabs fed ≥2.0 mg folic acid kg?1, but not significantly different between crabs fed diets >2.0 mg folic acid. The superoxide dismutase activity and glutathione S‐transferase activity were highest in crabs fed ≥2.0 mg folic acid kg?1, followed by those fed 0.5 and 1.0 mg folic acid kg?1, and the control diet. The malondialdehyde content was highest in crabs fed the control diet, followed by those fed 0 mg folic acid kg?1, and the lowest value occurred in those fed ≥0.5 mg folic acid kg?1. Phenoloxidase activity and total haemocytes were significantly higher in crabs fed ≥2.0 mg folic acid kg?1 than other diets. Crabs fed 2.0 mg folic acid kg?1 had the highest lysozyme, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase activities but the lowest cumulative mortality. The optimum dietary folic acid requirement by E. sinensis was estimated at 2.29–2.90 mg kg?1 diet.  相似文献

A 75‐day experiment was conducted with juvenile gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) (4.80 ± 0.01 g) to evaluate effects of dietary chitosan on fish growth performance, haematology, intestine morphology and immune response. Six isonitrogenous (crude protein: 383 g kg?1), isolipid (97.5 g kg?1) and isocaloric (gross energy: 16.7 kJ g?1) diets were formulated to contain 0, 1800, 4000, 7500, 10 000, 20 000 mg kg?1 chitosan, respectively. The results showed that the growth was depressed when the fish fed with 10 000 mg kg?1 chitosan. Serum cholesterol, triglyceride and low‐density lipoprotein decreased in 10 000 and 20 000 mg kg?1 chitosan. On day 75, blood leucocyte phagocytic activity respiratory burst and alternative pathway of complement haemolytic activity were enhanced in 4000 mg kg?1 chitosan. The number of goblet cell, intraepithelial lymphocyte of mid‐intestine and microvilli height of distal intestine increased at 4000 mg kg?1 dietary chitosan. Dietary chitosan modulated intestine microbiota, depressed pathogen bacteria Aeromonas veronii‐like and improved Cellulomonas hominis‐like, Bacillus oceanisediminis‐like and two uncultured bacterium‐like species on day 75. Dietary 7500 and 10 000 mg kg?1 chitosan enhanced the protection against Aeromonas hydrophila infection. In conclusion, oral administration of dietary 7500 mg kg?1 chitosan for 75 days is recommended for the survival of gibel carp.  相似文献

In a Biofloc Technology System (BFT), there is constant biofloc formation and suspended solids accumulation, leading to effects on water quality parameters that may affect the growth performance of cultured shrimp. This study aimed to analyse during biofloc formation the effect of different total suspended solids (TSS) levels on water quality and the growth performance of Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp in a BFT system. A 42‐day trial was conducted with treatments of three ranges of TSS: 100–300 mg L?1 as low (TL), 300–600 as medium (TM) and 600–1000 as high (TH). The initial concentrations of 100 (TL), 300 (TM) and 600 mg L?1 (TH) were achieved by fertilization before starting the experiment. Litopenaeus  vannamei juveniles with an average weight of 4.54 ± 1.19 g were stocked at a density of 372 shrimp m?3. Physical and chemical water parameters and shrimp growth performance were analysed. After 6 weeks, TSS mean concentrations were 306.37, 532.43 and 745.2 mg L?1 for, respectively, TL, TM and TH treatments. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were observed in TSS, settleable solids, pH, alkalinity and nitrite, especially between the TL and TH treatments. Similarly, differences (P < 0.05) were observed in the growth performance parameters, specifically final weight, survival, feed conversion and productivity. The water quality parameters at lower range of total suspended solids concentration (TL) treatment resulted in a better performance of L. vannamei in the BFT system. The maintenance at range of 100–300 mg L?1 TSS is thus important to the success of shrimp culture.  相似文献
