Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementing methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA) on the performance, body composition, and nutrition retention of rainbow trout. In experiment 1, a 2×4 factorial arrangement with two MHA supplemental levels (with and without) and four fish meal replacement levels (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, replaced with soybean meal (SBM) and wheat gluten) was used. A fish meal diet was included as a control. Results showed that fish meal replacement levels had significant effects on fish weight gain (WG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), body moisture, crude protein, crude fat, and ash (P<0.05). In experiment 2, a fish meal reference diet and seven other diets were made using SBM and distiller's dried grain with solubles supplemented with 0, 0, 0.55, 1.1, 1.65, 2.2, and 2.75 g MHA kg?1 diet to replace 50% of fish meal. WG, FCR, and apparent retention of crude protein and phosphorus were significantly improved in rainbow trout fed the diet containing 1.65 g MHA kg?1 diet compared with fish fed an equivalent diet without MHA. 相似文献

Different synthetic forms of supplemental methionine (Met) are produced commercially by various manufacturers. Limited information exists on the bioavailability of these different forms in commercially relevant fish species. The objective of this study was to compare the relative bioavailability of L‐methionine and a methionine hydroxy analogue calcium salt (MHA‐Ca) to DL‐methionine in a commercially relevant species, rainbow trout, using a linear slope‐ratio assay. In addition, the ability of the rainbow trout to effectively convert the D‐isomer of methionine into the biologically active L‐isomer was studied by comparing the relative bioavailability of L‐methionine to DL‐methionine. Nine (9) diets were created from a methionine‐deficient basal diet which was supplemented with graded equimolar levels of methionine (0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3% of diet by weight) from either DL‐methionine, L‐methionine and methionine hydroxy analogue calcium salt (MHA‐Ca). Diets were fed in triplicate (IBW = 24.0 ± 0.6 g) for 12 weeks using a pair‐feeding protocol. The basal diet was formulated to be deficient in both methionine (0.5%) and cysteine (0.3%), whereas meeting all other known nutritional requirements of rainbow trout. MHA‐Ca was found to be less available (P < 0.05) than DL‐methionine with relative bioavailability values of 69%, 60% and 73% based upon weight gain, growth rate (TGC) and retained nitrogen values respectively. No significant differences (P > 0.05) in bioavailability were found between DL‐methionine and L‐methionine. These findings lead to the conclusion that differences in bioavailability do exist between sources of synthetic methionine, additionally findings suggest that rainbow trout are able to effectively convert the D‐isomer of methionine into the L‐isomer without significantly affecting fish performance. 相似文献

The effects of protein source and nutrient density on growth efficiency, nutrient digestibility and plasma amino acid concentrations of rainbow trout were evaluated. A 3 by 2 factorial treatment design with three protein sources, fish meal–barley (F–B), plant concentrates (PC) and plant meals (PM), and two nutrient densities were used. A commercial reference diet was also fed. Triplicate tanks of 30 fish (initial wt. 28 g) were fed each diet, and the final weight averaged 240 g fish−1. Protein source and nutrient density affected feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion ratio. Weight gain of trout fed the PC and PM diets was approximately 10% less than fish fed the F–B diets. Protein retention was affected by protein source, but not nutrient density, and was the highest for the fish fed diets containing fish meal and the lowest for the fish fed PM diets. Apparent digestibility coefficients and apparent amino acid availabilities of the diets corresponded with differences in weight gain. This study provides further evidence that growth rates of trout fed fish meal‐free diets, using conventional and concentrated plant protein ingredients, are good but some limitation to growth exists in the fish meal‐free diets. 相似文献

Five experimental diets (PPC1, PPC2, PPC3, PPC4 and PPC5) containing about 465 g kg−1 crude protein were formulated to contain graded levels of potato protein concentrate (PPC) (a by-product of potato starch manufacturing) by replacement of fish meal protein. The contents of PPC were 0, 94, 200, 304 and 510 g kg−1 respectively. The diets were prepared isonitrogenously and isocalorically. A 6-week growth trial was conducted with rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), at about 14°C to evaluate the potential use of the potato protein concentrate in trout diets.
The results showed that fish fed diets containing PPC showed decreased growth, feed utilization and condition factor, and increased mortality when PPC constituted the sole protein source. Incorporation of PPC in the diets resulted in decreased dry matter, protein and fat and increased ash contents of the fish body. Fishery processing by‐products are a large resource from which to produce fishmeal and other products for a variety of uses. In this study, testes meal (TM) produced from pink salmon processing by‐product was evaluated as a functional ingredient in aquafeeds. Nile tilapia and rainbow trout fry were fed five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic experimental diets for 4 and 9 weeks respectively. Two diets were fishmeal‐based (FM) and three were plant protein‐based (PP). Salmon TM was added to the FM and PP diets at 7% to replace 20% of fishmeal protein (FMTM and PPTM respectively). An additional control diet was prepared in which fishmeal was added to the PP diet to supply an equivalent amount of protein as supplied by TM (PPFM). Inclusion of TM in both the FM‐ and PP‐based diets resulted in higher final body weights, although differences were only significant between rainbow trout fed FM or FMTM diets. Similar differences were calculated for other indices of fish performance, e.g. specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio, protein efficiency ratio and protein retention efficiency. Feed intake was significantly higher for fish fed FMTM compared with FM in rainbow trout. For tilapia, final weights were numerically higher, but not significantly different for fish fed diets containing TM compared with non‐TM diets (FM vs. FMTM; PP vs. PPTM). Performance of trout or tilapia fed the PPFM diet did not increase compared with the PP diet. The results indicate that TM addition to both FM and PP diets increased feed intake and also increased metabolic efficiency, demonstrating that TM can be a functional ingredient in aquafeeds. 相似文献

Effects of thermal and enzymatic treatments of soybean meal on apparent absorption of total phosphorus, phytate phosphorus, nitrogen (protein), ash, calcium, magnesium, copper, iron, manganese, strontium and zinc were examined using rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), as the test species. Absorption of the test nutrients was estimated using yttrium as an inert non-absorbable indicator. Thermal treatments (microwaving, dry roasting, steam heating, cooking) had no measurable effect on the apparent absorption of phosphorus and other minerals. Phytase supplementation increased the apparent absorption of phosphorus, nitrogen (protein), ash, calcium, magnesium, copper, iron, strontium and zinc in low-ash diets containing soybean meal, but had little effect in high-ash diets containing both soybean and fish meal. In low-ash diets, the apparent absorption of phosphorus increased in accord with the level of phytase added to the diet, from 27% (no phytase added) up to 90% (phytase added, 4000 units kg−1 diet) or 93% (predigested with phytase, 200 units kg−1 soybean meal). In high-ash diets, dietary acidification with citric acid decreased the effect of phytase, whereas in low-ash diets, acidification markedly increased the effect of the enzyme. Excretion of phosphorus in the faeces of fish fed a low-ash diet containing phytase-treated soybean meal was 0.32 g per kg diet consumed, a 95%−98% reduction compared with phosphorus excretion by fish consuming commercial trout feeds. 相似文献

Two groups of red sea bream (average body weight 85 g) were fed to satiation fish meal (FM) or FM‐free soy protein concentrate (SPC)‐based diet (FM‐sat and SPC groups respectively). A third group (FM‐pair) was fed the same amount of FM as of SPC fed to SPC‐sat group for 6 weeks. Growth rate of SPC group was significantly slower than of FM‐sat and FM‐pair groups (p < 0.05). Feed conversion ratios of FM‐sat and FM‐pair groups were similar and were better than that of SPC group (p < 0.05). Visceral fat somatic index of SPC group was significantly lower than of the other groups (p < 0.05), while that of the latter two groups were similar. Plasma triglyceride of FM‐sat and FM‐pair groups was similar and lower than the level of SPC group (p < 0.05). Trypsin activity in hepatopancreas of SPC group was significantly lower than that of other groups (p < 0.05). We suggest a low growth of SPC group was not simply related to low‐feed intake. Feeding of a FM‐free SPC‐based diet may reduce lipid accumulation and consequently lead to low‐growth performance, in red sea bream. 相似文献

This study investigates whether tissue free amino acid (FAA) pools in rainbow trout,Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), are altered following feeding and the relationships between the amount of food consumed and the FAA pool size. Trout were starved for 7 days to provide baseline data and then refed on day 8. Individual food intake was measured by radiography and the consumption of amino acids (AA) calculated from dietary protein consumption. Total FAA concentrations in the stomach, liver and white muscle were little changed at various times after the meal and this pattern was repeated for the majority of individual FAA. Overall, the most notable change was a reduction in essential FAA concentrations (principally in valine, leucine and isoleucine) in the white muscle following feeding. However, in the caeca total FAA, total essential FAA and a number of individual FAA were significantly elevated at 4, 9 and 15h following feeding. There were few significant correlations between dietary amino acid consumption and total tissue FAA and essential FAA concentration in the stomach, caecum and white muscle; correlations were stronger in the liver. In order to explain the relative constancy of total FAA concentrations in the tissues following food intake (which represents over 100% of the total FAA pool) a model is presented that quantifies the AA flux through the free pools and considers the role of protein turnover in regulating FAA pool size. 相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted with juvenile rainbow trout (15–16 g initial weight) to assess the effects of including single‐cell protein (SCP) produced from Methylobacterium extorquens in trout feeds. Three isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were produced: a control diet and two experimental diets containing 5% or 10% bacterial protein meal replacing soybean meal. Triplicate tanks, each containing 35 fish, were fed each diet to apparent satiation in a constant‐temperature (15°C), flow‐through tank system for 12 weeks. No statistically significant differences in final fish weight or other fish growth parameters were observed. Similarly, feed efficiency parameters showed no significant differences among groups. Nutrient retention indices (protein, fat, energy) were relatively high and similar among fish in each dietary treatment group, as were whole body proximate compositions. Fish survival was high, with a small but statistically significant increase for the 10% SCP diet. Overall, results demonstrate that SCP from M. extorquens is a safe and effective alternative protein for rainbow trout diets at the low inclusion levels tested. Slightly lower weight gain in fish fed the 10% SCP diet was largely due to lower feed intake, suggesting that adding palatability‐enhancing ingredients to feeds may allow higher levels of M. extorquens SCP to be used without compromising fish growth. 相似文献

Taurine is a component that tends to be deficient in fish diets that contain higher plant‐derivative proteins. Acanthopagrus schlegelii juveniles (IBW ? 11.28 g) were fed nine diets containing SPC levels (SPC40, SPC60, SPC80 and SPC100), or supplemented with 5 g/kg of taurine at each replacement level. Our results showed higher WGR and SGR in SPC60 + TAU (WGR; 224.67, SGR; 2.10) followed by SPC40 + TAU (WGR; 221.75, SGR; 2.09). Phosphorus retention efficiency was significantly raised as the SPC increased when compared with the control diet. Taurine addition showed an incline in the nitrogen retention efficiency. An effect was observed within FR between fish and the SPC content. ADCs of dry matter, crude lipid and phosphorous were affected by SPC, while taurine addition affected only crude lipid. A significant effect was seen in ash and phosphorus by the SPC and taurine. TAU supplementation showed an increased T‐AOC activity in the SPC80 + TAU (1.90), while malondialdehyde and catalase activity were reduced except in completely replaced fish meal groups. It could be concluded that black sea bream can accept the substitution of FM with 60% of SPC while at the inclusion of dietary TAU (5 g/kg) growth could be improved. 相似文献

In this study, high throughput 16S rRNA sequencing was used to investigate the effect of a novel whole‐cell dietary microalgae meal (Schizochytrium limacinum), on the distal intestinal microbiome of farmed rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. Heterotrophic microalgae are rich in omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, can be produced sustainably and have been shown to have beneficial effects on host health. After a 15‐week trial period, microbial community profiles were compared between the distal intestinal contents of fish fed either a control diet or a treatment diet that partially replaced fish oil with microalgae meal, at a substitution level of 5%. The results of this research showed that the microbial communities of both fish populations were composed of similar microbial taxa, however, the treatment group fed the microalgae supplement possessed a greater level of microbial diversity than those in the control group. A limited number of bacterial taxa were discriminatory between diets and were significantly elevated in the treatment group, notably operational taxonomic units (OTUs) assigned to the genera Streptococcus, Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus and Weissella. However, the overall structure of the intestinal microbiome between control and treatment groups was not found to be significantly different. The treatment group displayed a heavier mean weight and condition factor at the end of the trial period. The results of this study suggest that the tested microalgae meal can be used as a replacement for a proportion of fish oil in aquafeeds, with minor changes to the intestinal microbiome of farmed rainbow trout, and positive effects on growth. 相似文献

A trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of the number of feeding days on feed consumption and growth of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum) (initial mean weight 53.6 ± 11.3 g). Fish were held under natural winter–spring (40°57′N) photoperiod (L:8 D:16 – L:14 D: 10) and ambient water temperatures (4–12 °C) for 128 days, and fed on day 7 (F7), day 5 (F5.1: no feeding on weekends and F5.2: no feeding on Sundays and Wednesdays) or every other day (FEOD). Feeding treatments were replicated with 50 fish held in 200‐L tanks. Number of feeding days affected final live weight, with fish in group F7 achieving a mean weight of 285.6 g, followed by F5.1 (256.6 g), F5.2 (247.6 g) and FEOD (223.2 g). Final condition factors (CF) differed between the FEOD group and the others. Feed conversion ratios (FCR) exhibited significant differences among some of the groups. The results suggest that depriving rainbow trout of feed for more than 1 day a week has a negative effect on growth, but little influence on feed conversion. 相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary incorporation of soybean meal for fish meal replacement and supplementation of betaine as an attractant on growth performance and fatty acid profiles of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Juvenile trout were fed practical diets, with increasing soybean levels and betaine supplementations. The experimental diets consisted of a control diet with fish meal as the sole protein source (control) and no attractant, 25% soybean‐1% betaine diet (SBM25‐B1), 50% soybean‐2% betaine diet (SBM50‐B2), and 50% soybean‐0% betaine diet (SBM50‐B0). Average body weight was 12.69 ± 0.16 g at the beginning of experiments. Following 54 days feeding programme with experimental diets, average body weights reached 47.45 ± 1.22 g, 58.11 ± 1.77 g, 56.34 ± 1.87 g and 53.76 ± 1.74 g in the control, SBM25‐B1, SBM50‐B2 and SBM50‐B0 groups respectively. As compared with control treatment, significant differences were observed in weight gain, specific growth rate and feed intake of 1% betaine treatment at 25% soybean‐meal‐incorporated diet (p < .05), but no differences were observed in feed conversation ratio and survival rates (p > .05). Compared with the control treatment, betaine‐supplemented groups had significantly higher total saturated fatty acid contents (p < .05). On the other hand, the control treatment showed a significantly higher level of monounsaturated fatty acid than the betaine‐supplemented groups (p < .05). Significant differences were observed in fatty acid profile of 1% betaine‐supplemented group (p < .05) compared with the control. Present findings revealed that 1% betaine supplementation with dietary incorporation of soybean meal at 25% level positively influenced growth performance, feed utilization and fatty acid profiles of rainbow trout juveniles. 相似文献

Effects of feed ration levels (RLs) and age on sensory characteristics, fillet lipid content (LC) and fatty acid composition (FA) of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), fillet were investigated in a longitudinal feeding experiment. Daily RLs were administered as a percentage of the ration size necessary for expected maximum growth (RL100). Fish on RL50, RL75, RL100 and RL200 were sampled at 1.4, 2.0 and 2.4 years of age. Analyses of LC and FA were carried out on a fillet cross-section. Sensory analyses were performed by an expert panel using ranking and conventional profiling. RL had no effect on the intensity of fresh smell or any sensory characteristic of taste or consistency of fish on RLs over 75%, irrespective of age; fish on RL50, however, scored significantly lower for fresh taste and firmness. Age had no effect on the intensity of total taste, whereas fresh taste increased and rancidity decreased with increasing age irrespective of RL. LC related strongly to RL and age, and increased up to 2.0 years of age. An increase in LC resulted in a higher level of monounsaturated FA and a lower level of polyunsaturated FA. A restriction to RL75 had no negative effects on sensory characteristics, LC or FA of the fillet. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to compare the apparent absorption efficiency of individual indispensable and dispensable amino acids in diets containing varying proportions of bacterial single cell protein (BSCP) and fishmeal when fed to rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum). Four diets were formulated to contain a total of 45.8% crude protein, of which 0% was from BSCP in diet 1 (BSCP-0), 25% in diet 2 (BSCP-25), 62.5% in diet 3 (BSCP-62.5) and 100% in diet 4 (BSCP-100); the remainder of the protein was from fishmeal. The four diets were isonitrogenous and had similar amino acid compositions. Duplicate groups of 25 fish were fed one of the four experimental diets at the rate of 20 g kg?1 body weight per day for 132 days. Apparent absorption efficiency was measured over a 45-day period during the growth trial. Results from two methods of faeces collection and two indicators of absorption efficiency were compared. The amino acid absorption efficiency of BSCP-100 was significantly lower (P < 0.05) when compared to the other three diets and absorption of some of indispensable amino acids was below the requirement level. The variation seen in individual amino acids absorption efficiencies between diets suggests that this parameter may be important in fish nutritional investigations. 相似文献

Rainbow trout (186 g) were fed three test diets where the lipid source (150 g kg?1) was either menhaden oil (MO), pollock oil (PO) or canola oil (CO) for eight weeks to an average weight of 370 g. The CO group was then divided into two groups, one continuing on the CO diet and the other switched to the PO diet (CO–PO). After nine additional weeks of feeding, the average fish weight approximately doubled (719–749 g). No significant differences were found in average final weight or fillet yield among dietary treatment groups. Fatty acid profiles of fillets from trout fed MO, PO or CO‐supplemented diets reflected the fatty acid profiles of the added oils, whereas the fatty acid profile of fillet from trout in the CO–PO group exhibited values similar to those of fish fed PO. The ratio of ω3 : ω6 FA was nearly 2.5 times higher in fillets from the CO–PO group compared to the CO group. Sensory analysis showed that panelists preferred CO‐fed fillets over those fed MO, PO, or CO–PO. Phase‐feeding CO and PO reduced fish oil use and resulted in fillets with double the content of Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) over CO‐fed fish, similar to levels in MO‐fed fish. 相似文献

Replacement of >25% of fish meal (FM) with aerobically converted carinata meal (ACCM) in low (200g/kg) animal protein (reference = 200g/kg FM) diets of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss resulted in reduced growth, partly due to reduced feed consumption and protein utilization. In this study, we determined the effect of FM replacement with ACCM on trypsin activity, apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of protein, and essential amino acid (EAA) or conditionally essential amino acid (CEAA) ADCs and bioavailability. Replacement of FM did not alter protein ADCs or trypsin activity. Replacement of >25% FM reduced all EAA and CEAA ADCs except for arginine and leucine which were only reduced by 75% FM replacement. Only serum free lysine and muscle free histidine were reduced by >25% FM replacement. Muscle free lysine was only reduced by 75% FM replacement. Replacement of FM reduced EAA peak concentrations and resulted in slower release of EAAs in serum. Cumulative total EAAs in serum and muscle decreased with FM replacement. Ratios of EAAs to lysine showed that tryptophan was the most limiting EAA. However, isoleucine, leucine, methionine and phenylalanine were also inadequate for muscle synthesis for the first 9–12 hr following force‐feeding. Optimal time for protein synthesis was ≥36 hr. Although any level of FM replacement did not reduce protein ADCs and trypsin activity, replacement of ≥25% FM reduced EAA ADCs and bioavailability of lysine and histidine, which partly contributed to the observed differences in growth. 相似文献

A basal isonitrogenous and isoenergetic plant‐based diet (Control) was supplemented with either 10 g kg?1 sodium diformate (NaDF), 4000 FTU kg?1 phytase (Phy) or a combination of both additives (NaDF + Phy). Three hundred juvenile rainbow trout with an average weight of 120 g were randomly distributed into 12 fibreglass tanks (300 L). After 65 days of trial, fish fed diets containing phytase, NaDF or the combination of both additives showed a higher growth rate (P < 0.05) compared to fish fed Control diet. NaDF increased feed intake (P = 0.032), while phytase inclusion resulted in a better feed conversion ratio (P < 0.0001) and a higher N retention efficiency (P = 0.02) compared with the Control. Apparent digestibility of P, Ca, Mg and Zn was improved by the use of phytase (P < 0.005) as well as P, Ca and Mg retention efficiency in fish (P < 0.0001). Using 4000 FTU kg?1 phytase in plant‐based diets resulted in a 13% and 50% reduction in N and P loadings, respectively. The use of NaDF in combination with phytase in a plant‐based diet for rainbow trout resulted in a higher weight gain than that when NaDF was used alone. 相似文献

This experiment intended to assess the effect of sesame (SO), sunflower (SFO) and linseed (LO) oils on growth performance, fatty acid composition of fillet and liver or flesh quality traits of rainbow trout. Fish fed different four iso‐nitrogenous and iso‐lipidic experimental feeds. The control feed contained only fish oil as the primary lipid source. The fillet eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid levels were the highest in fish fed control feed. In contrast, the liver eicosapentaenoic acid level was the highest in fish fed LO feed. Fish fed SFO feed had the highest level of total n?6 fatty acids in fillet and liver. Fish fed SO feed had the highest level of 18:1 n?9 fatty acid in fillet and liver. During the 12 days refrigerated storage period at 1°C, thiobarbituric acid (TBA) and pH values gradually increased in all dietary groups. However, trimethylamin nitrogen (TMA‐N) values increased in all dietary groups between days 0 and 9 during the storage period. Generally, pH value in fillets of control group was slightly higher than the other fish groups during 12 days refrigerated storage. Nevertheless, the chemical indicators of spoilage, TBA, TMA‐N and pH values were in the limit of acceptability for human consumption. Results of growth performance and chemical tests in the present study showed that sesame, linseed and sunflower oils could be used in feeds for rainbow trout. Moreover, we concluded that further researches should be carried out on the partial replacement of fish oil by sesame oil in rainbow trout nutrition. 相似文献

High inclusion levels of dehulled lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) in salmonid diets significantly decrease growth rates. This may be caused by the high concentrations of non‐starch polysaccharides including oligosaccharide (OS) in lupin. The antinutritive effects of OS have not yet been fully investigated in fish. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of enzyme supplementation of dehulled lupin‐based diets on the fish performance. There were two control diets: a fish meal‐based diet with no plant protein (FM) and a diet that contained 50% dehulled lupin (L). Four experimental diets based on diet L and containing four different exogenous enzyme supplements were used: diet L(E) (Energex™); diet L(B) (Bio‐Feed™ Pro); diet L(α) (Alpha galactosidase™); and diet L(Mix), which contained all the enzymes. Fish were randomly stocked into tanks in duplicate groups of 38 fish, 16.58±0.169 (SE) g, and were fed twice a day for 6 weeks. The supplemented enzymes did not improve weight gain in fish fed lupin‐based diets. However, mixed enzyme significantly improved Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER). Apparent digestibility of DM, CP and GE significantly improved in fish‐fed L(E) diet. None of the supplemented enzymes affected digestive tract indices or carcass composition. Surprisingly, weight gain was significantly higher in fish‐fed L(α), L(E) and L(Mix) diets as compared with FM diet. Feed intake was significantly higher in fish‐fed L, L(α) and L(E) diets compared with the FM diet. It is concluded that storing of lupin kernel under a suitable condition may have partially hidden the positive effects of exogenous enzymes through activating the endogenous enzymes. 相似文献
