Methods to improve the hatchability of checked chicken eggs   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
1. The hatchability of checked Leghorn and broiler parent hatching eggs was significantly improved by shell treatment: smearing with synthetic adhesive resin (Fevicol), or pasting cellophane tape or insulation tape over the checked portion of the shell. 2. Shell damage reduced hatchability by increasing evaporative loss, leading to embryonic dehydration. 3. Relative chick weight, expressed as a percentage of egg weight was lower in untreated checked eggs but comparable between intact and shell-treated hatching eggs. 4. The cost of chick production can be reduced by shell treatment of checked hatching eggs, especially in broiler parent eggs.  相似文献

It is known that the organic matrix of the shell is not distributed evenly throughout the calcified portion and an experiment has been described in which incompletely shelled eggs were removed from a group of domestic hens after being in the shell gland for various known periods.

Rate of shell deposition and the timing of the deposition of the various layers in the shell has thus been determined, and it was found that shell deposition was initially slow for the first 3 h in the gland and thereafter more rapid, at a constant rate of 322 mg h?1, until termination after 17 or 18 h. The narrow layer low in matrix at the top of the mammillary layer of the shell was laid down during the 7th to 9th hour in the gland and did not appear to be associated with any change in shell deposition rate. It was also found that the characteristic pole to pole thickness patterns of shells were present at the earliest measurable stage, that is after about 8 h in the gland.  相似文献

Three experiments are reported concerning the effect of the manganese content of the diet on the acid mucopolysaccharide content of egg shell matrix. In the first experiment hexosamine was taken as an index of acid mucopolysaccharide, but in experiments 2 and 3 uronic acid was determined instead.

It was found that a low‐Mn diet depressed the hexosamine and uronic acid content of the matrix of eggs sampled at the start of lay. However, eggs from low‐Mn fed pullets after three months of lay showed a significant increase in matrix uronic acid.

Other characteristics of shells from low‐Mn fed pullets taken at the start of lay were a low weight of shell per unit area and a high weight of matrix per unit area, which led to an abnormally high proportion of matrix to mineral in the shell.

As a model for normal shell development eggs were extracted from the uterus at an early and late stage of shell formation. Although these uterine shells resembled the poor shells from the low‐Mn diet from the point of view of poor shell thickness and low matrix uronic acid content, the proportion of matrix to mineral in shell was similar to that of the fully‐formed shells and not as high as in shells from low‐Mn fed birds. This last observation led to the conclusion that low‐Mn shells were not unfinished products arising from a premature expulsion from the oviduct.  相似文献

The ability of the eggshell to resist penetration of Salmonella bacteria was studied in unwashed and in hand washed eggs, and in eggs, which had been subjected to industrial, large-scale machine washing under strictly controlled conditions.In one part of the investigation, concerning unwashed and machine washed eggs, a defined amount of a broth culture of Salmonella typhi murium was applied on the shell surface, whereafter the eggs were incubated at 4°C for eight weeks or at 30°C for 12 days. At the end of the storage period, the egg contents were examined for the presence of Salmonella. No Salmonella bacteria were detected in the 120 eggs investigated.In another part of the investigation, dealing with 200 unwashed, 200 hand washed and 200 machine washed eggs, a broth culture of Salmonella was applied on the shell surface of eggs, whose contents had been poured out through an opening. In every second egg of each kind, the shell membranes had been scraped off over an area, corresponding to the placement of the bacterial inoculum. The eggshells were filled with enrichment broth and the occurrence of Salmonella bacteria in this broth was examined after incubation.In the eggs with intact shell membranes, the frequencies of Salmonella positive enrichment broths were for unwashed eggs 0.12, for machine washed eggs 0.10, and for hand washed eggs 0.22. The corresponding frequencies in eggs with removed shell membranes were 0.27 (unwashed), 0.42 (machine washed), and 0.60 (hand washed).No statistical difference occurred between unwashed and machine washed eggs when the shell membranes were intact. When the shell membranes were removed this difference was statistically almost significant. The difference between machine washed and hand washed eggs with intact shell membranes was statistically almost significant, while the same difference was highly significant in eggs with removed shell membranes.The author assumes, from the results of the present and a preceding investigation, that the applied washing procedure in no way harms any essential storage properties of uncracked eggs. Considering the known occurrence of hand washing of eggs in Swedish farms — a treatment with documentedly unfavourable influence — it would be desirable if all eggs could be subjected to machine washing under strictly controlled conditions at the grading stations. Such an arrangement ought to result in an increase in the average bacteriologic-hygienic quality of eggs for market.  相似文献

Investigations into various alternative techniques for decontamination of the surfaces of artificially contaminated shell eggs were carried out. Ionized air, exposure to ozone in a dry atmosphere and use of a commercial herbal antibacterial product were not effective. Application of ozone in a humid environment was only partially effective but a commercial ionized water anolyte was highly effective in eliminating Salmonella from egg surfaces.  相似文献

Spermatozoa in semen samples from 8 individual male domestic fowls were shown to have a differential and characteristic ability to hydrolyse holes in the inner perivitelline layer from laid eggs in an in vitro assay. 2. The number of holes produced by samples of spermatozoa per unit area of inner perivitelline layer in vitro was linearly correlated with sperm ATP content ( r = 0.85) and motility (r=0.76). 3. The number of holes formed in the inner perivitelline layer in vitro was also linearly correlated with the numbers of holes formed in the inner perivitelline layer of eggs fertilised in vivo , in inseminated hens (r=0.90); and was correlated logarithmically with the proportion of fertile eggs laid by these hens.  相似文献

The shell of the egg is essential in providing shape to the egg and ensuring safe packaging of the internal contents; however, shell defects have been shown to increase the risk of microbial contamination of eggs. Eggs were collected from commercial cage and free-range flocks at the ages of 25, 35, 45, 55, 65, and 75 wk. From each collection per flock, 30 eggs were processed for the eggshell and egg internal quality determination, 30 eggs for cuticle estimation, 30 eggs for mammillary layer ultrastructural features scoring, and 60 eggs for egg microbial enumeration. Translucency score and shell reflectivity were significantly higher in free-range eggs and increased with flock age in both production systems. Egg weight, shell weight, percentage shell, shell thickness, albumen height, Haugh unit, and yolk color were higher for cage eggs. The amount of cuticle was higher in cage eggs and fluctuated with flock age in both production systems. For the mammillary layer ultrastructural variables, a significant effect of production system and flock age was observed for early fusion, Type A bodies, and Type B bodies, whereas aragonite, depression, erosion, and hole were rarely observed. Variability of mammillary cap size, the incidence of poor mammillary cap quality, incidence of late fusion, alignment, Type A bodies, Type B bodies, and cubic cone formation were greater in the free-range versus cage system and increased with flock age in both production systems. The incidence of confluence and early fusion were greater in cage eggs and decreased with age in both production systems. Significantly lower total microbial load was observed for cage compared with free-range eggs, but the overall bacterial load recorded in this study was low. It can be concluded that cage eggs were better in overall quality when directly compared with free-range eggs.  相似文献

On candling, eggs often show translucent areas sometimes known as mottling. This is caused by local accummulations of moisture in the shell. A study of natural or “normal” translucence, as distinct from “accidental” translucence, has been made. It was observed that freshly laid eggs have wholly translucent shells which, on drying, develop opacity, often leaving some areas translucent. An early association between natural translucence and an increased shell matrix protein content has been confirmed, and a study of the distribution of this matrix in radial sections of shell has revealed a difference between opaque and translucent shell.

Further there was a difference in the porosity of opaque and translucent shells. These findings could be explained by the presence in opaque shells of a layer of shell low in organic matter, which appears to hinder the passage of moisture through the shell.  相似文献

1. Six egg samples, comprising equal numbers of intact and cracked eggs, were collected from three flocks of hybrid layers.

2. Cracks were classified according to type (hole, star or straight) and the weight, shape, shell colour and specific gravity of all the eggs were measured. Shell thickness and dry shell weight were also recorded for a maximum of 10 intact and 10 cracked eggs from each sample.

3. The largest proportion of cracks were holes.

4. Differences in mean egg weight and shape of intact and cracked eggs within each sample were inconsistent. Mean shell colour was darker for the intact brown eggs than for the cracked ones. For all the samples, mean egg specific gravity, shell thickness and dry shell weight were higher for the intact eggs. The difference in egg specific gravity was significant (P<0.05) for all samples.

5. Holes occurred in eggs of lower mean weight but with better quality shells than those in which star or straight cracks occurred.  相似文献

The purpose of this work was to measure changes in oxygen pressure in the air cell and under the eggshell (P(A)O2) of pre-pipping goose eggs before and after drilling holes into the air cell. Drilling a 0.6 mm (diameter of 0.9 mm) hole into the air cell caused an increase in air cell P(A)O2 of about 10 Torr. The rate of increase attenuated as hole area increased and reached about 21 Torr when the drilled area was 8.5 mm2. The P(A)O2 of intact eggs was not equally distributed under the shell. It was high in the air cell area (108 Torr) and decreased towards the pointed end (86 Torr). The increase in P(A)O2 after drilling a 4.9 mm2 hole was high in the air cell (18 Torr) and decreased with distance, becoming non-significant at the pointed end. The significant increase in P(A)O2 after drilling was limited to a distance of up to 38 mm along the shell from the edge of the air cell. This indicates that lateral diffusion in the shell membranes under the shell is limited. Drilling a hole of 3.5 to 4.9 mm2 was enough to increase air cell P(A)O2 in most of the eggs above the critical value of 100 Torr for hatching success. The increase in P(A)O2 was limited to about half the area of the shell and the average increase in P(A)O2 was 6.3 Torr (equivalent to a 0.9% increase in ambient O2). However, the blood perfusing chorioallantoic areas further away from the air cell edge may not be fully saturated with O2 and may not be sufficient to compensate fully for the low O2 availability caused by low eggshell conductance.  相似文献

Laying hens were fed osteolathyrogens, either semicarbazide hydrochloride at 0.3 or 0.4 g/kg or β-aminopropionitrile fumarate at 0.5 or 0.6 g/kg diet to examine their effects on eggshell quality. 2. Shell quality characteristics considered for evaluation were shell surface area, shell thickness, shell weight, percentage shell, shape index and the specific gravity of eggs. Measurement of shell quality traits revealed that the hens fed osteolathyrogens laid eggs with significantly lower specific gravities and proportion of shell by weight. These differences were not explained by differences in shell thickness or weight or the shape index of eggs. 3. It was concluded that osteolathyrogens cause hens to lay eggs with poor shell quality and such eggs are weak and fragile.  相似文献

为比较不同品种禽蛋中的营养元素(常量元素和微量元素)含量,采用电感耦合等离子体发射光谱技术测定了11种市售禽蛋中的钙、钾、钠、镁、铁、铜、锌、锰元素含量,利用钒钼黄比色法测定了11种市售禽蛋中的磷元素含量。结果显示,除磷元素外,其他8种营养元素含量均为鹌鹑蛋〉绿壳乌鸡蛋〉白壳乌鸡蛋〉其余8个品种的鸡蛋。结果提示,鹌鹑蛋、绿壳乌鸡蛋、白壳乌鸡蛋营养元素含量较高,可作为高营养价值禽蛋产品开发的重点品种。  相似文献

The bacterial eggshell contamination of eating eggs in different commercial housing systems; two conventional cages, one organic aviary system and one barn production, were compared. The total counts of aerobic bacteria and the total counts of Gram-negative bacteria on the shell were used to detect key points where contamination occurred and to study the progress of contamination in the egg collection and transportation chains. The key points in the chain were those where eggs accumulated on a short conveyor belt, initial shell contamination in the alternative housing systems and extra nest-boxes placed on the ground. The high bacterial load of floor eggs (>6.3 log CFU total aerobic flora/eggshell) explains why they cannot be used for eating. On average higher initial shell contamination with total counts of aerobic bacteria was found for eggs from the alternative housing systems compared to the conventional systems; respectively 5.46 compared to 5.08 log CFU/eggshell. However, initial contamination with total counts of Gram-negative bacteria on the shells was less in the alternative systems: 3.31 compared to 3.85 log CFU/shell. Initial bacterial shell contamination tended to correlate positively with the concentration of bacteria in the air of the poultry houses. Storing shell eggs, whether temporarily refrigerated or not, for 9 d or more, resulted in a decrease in bacterial eggshell contamination for both bacterial variables.  相似文献

本文旨在研究新扬州鸡蛋壳颜色和蛋壳强度与蛋各部位钙含量的关系.方法采用QC-SPA蛋壳强度测定仪、蛋壳颜色测定仪及相关仪器测定相同日龄新扬州鸡鸡蛋的蛋壳强度及蛋壳颜色,用乙二胺四乙酸二钠(EDTA)络合滴定快速测钙法,测定不同颜色鸡蛋的不同部位的钙含量.研究结果表明:随着蛋壳颜色加深,蛋壳和蛋白中钙含量增大,但蛋壳强度随之减小;当蛋壳强度为4000~4500g/cm<'2>时,鸡蛋各部位的钙含量均最大.  相似文献

Two techniques for egg-shell treatment were evaluated for their effects on the quantity and variability of the fluid absorbed by turkey hatching eggs subjected to the temperature-differential method of egg dipping. The use of pin or drill to pierce a uniform hole through the shell and membrane(s) on the large end of each egg caused a significant increase in the quantity of dip solution absorbed. Variability in fluid uptake by the eggs also was reduced significantly. Utilization of dilute acid to remove cuticle completely from the whole egg surface or partially from either end also had similar effects. The techniques described also permit and effective dipping procedure that does not require the preheating step.  相似文献

Categorisation and causes of abnormal egg shells: relationship with stress   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Concern regarding the proportion of brown eggs being laid with abnormal egg shells led to an investigation of the relationship between disturbance or stress and egg shell appearance and quality. The abnormalities fell into two main classes: misshapen or bulging eggs and eggs coated with a superficial layer of amorphous calcium, variously termed dusted, white banded, chalky or pink eggs. Translocation of hens from pens to cages resulted in a decrease in egg production and an increase in the proportion of abnormal eggs over the succeeding 18 d. Disturbance to flocks on deep litter resulted in an increase in the proportion of eggs laid with abnormal shells on the following day, not only in the flocks directly affected but also in an adjacent flock. Exclusion from their nests of birds accustomed to laying in nest boxes resulted in disturbed prelaying behaviour, retention of eggs in the shell gland and an increased proportion of coated eggs. Administration of 0.1, 0.25 or 1.0 mg of adrenaline subcutaneously resulted in the retention of eggs currently in the hens' shell glands and in an increased proportion of eggs with abnormal egg shells being laid during the following 10 d. A dose response effect was apparent. There was evidence that the nature of the particular abnormality produced was dependent on the stage of egg formation at which the disturbance was imposed and, if retention followed, upon the length of time the egg was retained. Disturbances when eggs were only lightly calcified tended to result in misshapen eggs, while those occurring when oviposition was imminent tended to result in coated eggs. Dusted or pink eggs followed moderate retention whereas white banded eggs were seen after prolonged retention. These observations may provide a basis for a non-invasive method of assessing stress in laying hens as well as helping to account for hitherto inexplicable occurrences of declining egg shell quality.  相似文献

The frequency distribution of points of sperm hydrolysis (or holes) produced per unit area of the inner perivitelline layer was examined in samples of approximately 60 laid eggs, taken on the same day from each of 19 flocks of broiler breeder hens. 2. The holes counted in samples of perivitelline layer from eggs varied from 0 to greater than 100; lower numbers being found in eggs from flocks with lower fertility. 3. The median frequency of holes in the inner perivitelline layer was strongly correlated ( r = 0.92) with the median frequency of spermatozoa found trapped in the corresponding outer perivitelline layer. 4. The median frequency of holes in the inner perivitelline layer and of spermatozoa in the outer perivitelline layer were both strongly correlated ( r = 0.80 and 0.77, respectively) with flock fertility. 5. It is suggested that counting 'holes' in the inner perivitelline layer of laid eggs is a more convenient method for assessing breeding efficiency and predicting flock fertility than counting spermatozoa trapped in the outer perivitelline layer.  相似文献

1. The effect of high temperature on eggshell quality was investigated by measuring the mechanical and material properties of shell and membranes. 2. Heat exposure resulted in a decrease in zootechnical performance and eggshell thickness, increase in egg breakage, and unchanged egg shape index. 3. The static stiffness (Kstat), dynamic stiffness (Kdyn) and modulus of elasticity of the eggshell were not significantly affected by high temperature. Membrane prolongation increased significantly while membrane attachment strength and breakage strength tended to decrease and increase, respectively. The relationships between these variables were changed by high temperature. 4. Neither Kstat nor Kdyn could give a reasonable explanation for the changed eggshell quality induced by heat stress. The decreased eggshell thickness and changed properties of shell membrane may be responsible, at least partially, for the decreased shell quality of eggs from heat-stressed hens.  相似文献

随机抽取40周龄尼克粉鸡、仿草鸡、苏禽黄鸡、青壳蛋鸡的蛋各100个,进行蛋品质测定。结果表明不同品种鸡蛋的蛋品质存在着差异,除蛋形指数差异不显著外,4种鸡蛋的蛋壳颜色和蛋黄颜色相互间存在极显著差异(P<0.01);尼克粉鸡蛋、苏禽黄鸡蛋与仿草鸡蛋及青壳蛋鸡蛋的蛋重相互间存在极显著差异;尼克粉鸡蛋、青壳蛋鸡蛋与仿草鸡蛋、苏禽黄鸡蛋的蛋黄比率存在极显著差异;尼克粉鸡蛋与仿草鸡蛋、苏禽黄鸡蛋、青壳蛋鸡蛋的蛋壳厚度存在极显著差异;4种鸡蛋的哈氏单位相互间表现出显著(P<0.05)或极显著的差异;蛋壳强度只在尼克粉鸡与仿草鸡之间有显著差异。  相似文献

试验旨在比较洪江雪峰乌骨鸡和罗曼粉蛋鸡的鸡蛋营养成分和蛋品质,为洪江雪峰乌骨鸡蛋用新品系选育提供依据。随机选取40周龄的洪江雪峰乌骨鸡(绿壳)、洪江雪峰乌骨鸡(粉壳)和罗曼粉壳蛋鸡各100只,每品种鸡随机分为5个重复,每个重复20只,在相同饲粮和饲养管理方式下进行饲养,45周龄收集鸡蛋检测营养成分和蛋品质指标。结果表明:洪江雪峰乌骨鸡绿壳蛋的蛋黄比例极显著高于罗曼粉壳蛋(P<0.01),蛋重、蛋壳厚度、哈氏单位极显著低于罗曼粉壳蛋(P<0.01),洪江雪峰乌骨鸡粉壳蛋的蛋重和蛋壳厚度极显著低于罗曼粉壳蛋(P<0.01);洪江雪峰乌骨鸡蛋中的多不饱和脂肪酸和硒元素含量均极显著高于罗曼粉壳蛋(P<0.01),洪江雪峰乌骨鸡绿壳蛋胶原蛋白含量极显著高于罗曼粉壳蛋(P<0.01)。综上所述,洪江雪峰乌骨鸡鸡蛋蛋黄比例高,蛋黄多不饱和脂肪酸、胶原蛋白、硒和锰含量高,适合作为优质禽蛋开发。  相似文献
