A study was conducted in strawberry to establish a relationship between shading, mineral nutrient of leaves and fruits with albinism incidence. Plants grown under shade produced albino fruits in higher proportion than those grown in open fields. Similarly, plants under shade produced smaller sized fruits and have lower fruit yield. Among cultivars, Etna had highest incidence of albinism (49.6%) and Sweet Charlie the lowest (14.4%). Dry matter content (%), concentration of five major nutrients, viz. N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S and N:Ca and K:Ca nutrient ratios did not differ significantly in the leaves of plants producing normal or albino fruits. However, in contrast, the concentration of K was notably higher (1.97 mg g−1 fresh tissue weight) and that of Ca was lower (0.098 mg g−1 fresh tissue weight) in albino fruits than normal ones. Consequently, the ratios of N:Ca (11.34) and K:Ca (20.08) were higher in albino fruits than normal ones. Cultivars also differed widely in respect to dry matter (%), mineral content and nutrient ratios. Thus, it appears that lower light intensity favours the development of albinism in strawberry, and it seems that calcium is not the basic cause of albinism, but increased vigour associated with overuse of N and K might be positively associated with it.  相似文献

Fruit nutrient content and lipoxygenase (LOX) activity were determined in strawberry fruit to establish a relationship, if it exists, between nutrients, and LOX activity with the fruit malformation and nubbins or button berry disorders. Nearly 17% fruit were affected by malformation and 10% by nubbins in open-field-grown strawberries. ‘Etna’ produced higher proportion of malformed (22.7%) as well as button berries (16.9%) and ‘Sweet Charlie’ the lowest (8.9% and 3.3%, respectively). Dry matter content (%) was lower in malformed (5.2%) and button berries (3.23%) than normal berries (7.41%). The concentration of P and Mg did not differ significantly, but that of N and K was notably higher and of Ca and B was lower in malformed and button berries than normal berries. Consequently, the N/Ca and K/Ca ratios were higher in malformed and button berries. LOX activity was significantly higher in malformed as well as button berries than normal berries, with significant differences among cultivars. The correlations between N, K and malformed and button berries were positive and between Ca and B, and malformed and button berries were negative. Similarly, the correlation between LOX activity and malformed, and button berries were also positive, indicating that excess of N and K, and deficiency of Ca and B are related to the production of malformed and buttons or nubbins in strawberry.  相似文献

Two transgenic strawberry lines (Pel 1 and Pel 3) containing the open reading frame of a fruit specific strawberry pectate lyase gene (FaplC) under the control of the CaMV35S promoter have been obtained to evaluate the role of this gene on fruit softening. Ripen fruits from both lines showed a significant down-regulation of FaplC, being the percentage of silencing of 84 and 71% on Pel 1 and Pel 3, respectively. The agronomic behaviour of transgenic plants was evaluated during two consecutive years. Fruit set increased in the two transgenic lines when compared with control plants, although Pel 1 showed a significant reduction on fruit weight. Firmness of full ripen fruits from Pel lines was significantly higher than control fruits, while color and soluble solids were not affected. The increase of firmness in Pel lines was maintained when ripe fruits were stored for 3 days at 25 °C. Histological analysis of ripe fruits showed lower intercellular spaces and a higher degree of cell to cell contact area in transgenic fruits when compared with controls. Altogether, these results suggest a direct relationship between pectate lyase gene expression and strawberry fruit softening.  相似文献

The effects of photoperiod (12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 h), day temperature (12, 15, 18, 24 or 27 °C) and night temperature (6, 9 or 12 °C) and their interactions on flower and inflorescence emergence were investigated by exposing 4 week old runner plants of strawberry cvs. Korona and Elsanta during a period of 3 weeks. A daily photoperiod of 12 or 13 h resulted in the highest number of plants with emerged flowers. A photoperiod of 14 h or more strongly reduced this number, while no flowers emerged at a photoperiod of 16 h. Plants exposed to photoperiods of 12 or 13 h flowered earlier and had longer flower trusses. A day temperature of 18 °C and/or a night temperature of 12 °C were optimal for plants to emerge flowers and resulted in the shortest time to flowering. A night temperature of 6 °C strongly reduced the number of plants that emerged flowers, especially when combined with lower day temperatures. Photoperiod and temperature had no effect on the number of inflorescences, all flowering plants produced on average one inflorescence. The number of flowers on the inflorescence increased with decreasing day temperature and when photoperiod was raised from 12 to 15 h. In general, ‘Korona’ was more sensitive to photoperiod and temperature as ‘Elsanta’, and had a lower optimal day temperature for flower emergence. Results of this experiment may be used to produce high quality plant material or to define optimal conditions when combining flower induction and fruit production.  相似文献

An important strategy to conduct intentional breeding of octoploid strawberry plants is to recognize the functions of every chromosome. To do so, a methodology must be developed to distinguish chromosomes one by one. We reported the possibility of distinguishing chromosomes using light microscopy when somatic cells of octoploid strawberry plants were stained using ordinary methods with lacto-propionic orcein (LPO). However, karyotype analysis of octoploid strawberry plants required clearer chromosome images. This study obtained clearer chromosome images of octoploid Fragaria × ananassa and F. chiloensis plants. Three staining methods were examined: 60% acetic acid (AA) alone, 1.5% LPO alone, and two-step treatments with 60% AA and 1.5% LPO. Collected root tips of the plants were placed in 2 mM 8-hydroxyquinoline solution for 1 h and were subsequently stored at 4 °C for 15 h. The samples were then fixed in a 3:1 absolute alcohol: glacial acetic acid solution for 40 min, followed by mixture with 1N HCl solutions at room temperature for 2 h and then at 60 °C for 10 min. For separate staining using 60% AA and 1.5% LPO, the root tip was expelled on the glass slide with a drop of each solution for a few minutes to stain the chromosomes. For the two-step staining method, the samples stained with 60% AA were frozen at −80 °C for at least 5 min. The cover slip was removed using a razor blade. Subsequently, the specimens were air-dried and stained with the 1.5% LPO for 3 min. Digital images of chromosomes were obtained using light microscopy. Samples of the two-step staining method produced the clearest chromosome images in both F. × ananassa and F. chiloensis. Furthermore, the greatest color difference between the chromosomes and the cytoplasm was obtained from images of the two-step staining method among the three staining methods. These results demonstrate that the two-step staining method is useful for chromosome counting and karyotype analysis in strawberry plants.  相似文献

The effects of photoperiod (10, 12, 16, 20 or 24 h), day-temperature (12, 15, 18, 24 or 30 °C), the number of short days (14, 21 or 28 days), plant age (4, 8 or 12 weeks) and their interactions on flower and inflorescence emergence were investigated in strawberry cv. Korona. No flowers emerged in plants exposed to photoperiods of 16, 20 or 24 h or to a short-day treatment for 14 days. All plants exposed to short days at daily photoperiods of 10 or 12 h for 21 days or longer, emerged flowers at temperatures between 12 and 18 °C. A further increase in temperature led to a drastic decrease in the total number of flowers per plant. A short-day treatment (10 or 12 h photoperiod) of 28 days resulted in highest numbers of inflorescences and flowers per plant, while a short-day treatment of 21 days resulted in the highest numbers of flowers per inflorescence. Complete flower induction was observed in only 4-week-old runner plants. The number of inflorescences and the number of flowers per inflorescence increased with plant age. However, the start of flowering was delayed with increasing plant age.  相似文献

The ‘Genome database for Rosaceae (GDR)’ provides a large collection of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) harboring simple sequence repeats (SSRs) from several Rosaceae genera, including Rosa (rose). Primer pairs flanking SSR were designed for 312 unique Rosa ESTs based on GDR database. Eight rose (Rosa hybrida L.) genotypes were tested for PCR amplification, and 287 (92%) of the primer pairs generated allele-specific PCR bands that were readily scored. From 183 (63.7%) primer pairs that evidenced polymorphic alleles among the eight rose cultivars, 20 pairs evidencing EST sequence homology to known gene functions and high levels of polymorphism were selected and utilized for DNA fingerprinting and genetic diversity assessments of 47 rose hybrids. A total of 202 polymorphic bands were scored and generated unique fingerprints for each rose hybrid. The Nei–Li genetic similarity coefficients among 1081 pair-wise comparisons of 47 cultivars exhibited a broad range of genetic variations from 0.30 (‘Grand King’ and ‘Carnival’) to 0.99 (‘First Red’ and ‘Red Champ’). UPGMA cluster analysis divided 47 hybrids into five major groups and two sub-groups. The cross-species transferability of 273 EST-SSR primer pairs was evaluated using four genotypes of the strawberry, a genus member of the Rosaceae family. PCRs on the DNA samples of strawberry were successful for 165 primer pairs; among these, 123 pairs amplified 243 polymorphic bands. As surrogates of the marker transfer, the phenetic relationship among the four strawberry genotypes was evaluated. Genetic similarity coefficients varied from 0.78 (‘Maehyang’ and ‘Janghyee’) to 0.64 (‘Janghyee’ and ‘Pragana’). The results of cluster analysis showed that the three octaploid strawberry cultivars were quite similar, whereas the diploid ‘Pragana’ was related distantly at the genomic DNA level. The EST-SSR markers developed in the present study can be efficiently utilized for genetic diversity studies in Rosaceae.  相似文献

It was previously shown that nitrogen fertilization immediately after commencement of SD exposure enhanced the floral induction effect of SD in June-bearing strawberries (Sønsteby et al., 2009). In order to optimize the timing of such fertilization under field conditions, seasonal timing of floral initiation in the strawberry cultivars ‘Frida’, ‘Polka’, ‘Korona’ and Florence’ was studied in the field at five contrasting latitudinal and altitudinal geographic locations in Norway and, for comparison, under controlled environment conditions with 12 h photoperiod and temperatures ranging from 9 to 18 °C. Serial collections and dissections of crowns from the various locations revealed that floral initiation was successively delayed with increasing latitude and altitude of the location, and with decreasing temperature under controlled environment conditions. Both in the field and in the phytotron, floral initiation was earliest in ‘Frida’ closely followed by ‘Polka’ and in due course by ‘Korona’ and finally ‘Florence’ which was particularly slow to respond. Floral initiation in the phytotron was progressively advanced with increasing temperature and was optimal at 15–18 °C. Flowering time in the field was mainly determined by thermal relations in the spring and early summer, and accordingly, it was strongly delayed with increasing latitude and altitude of the location. In addition, late floral initiation in autumn also delayed flowering in the spring. Based on these observations, optimal timing of autumn fertilization for the various locations and cultivars are suggested.  相似文献

To investigate the effects of lipoxygenase (LOX1) on the corm formation and enlargement in Gladiolus hybridus, the field and in vitro researches were conducted to detect the growth and development course, the LOX1 activity, the contents of endogenetic methyl jasmonate (MJ), sucrose, starch and cellulose, as well as LOX isozymes and the expression of its genes in ‘Rose Supreme’ and ‘Advanced Red’. The field investigation showed that the highest activities of LOX1 activity and MJ content in stolons, but not detected in leaves, which were higher in ‘RS’ than in ‘AR’. And the contents of sucrose, starch and cellulose in corm and cormels showed different increase during growth and development of Gladiolus corm. The in vitro investigation showed that the salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM) treatment caused obviously delayed corm formation, decrease of fresh weight and diameter, and percentage of corm formation; reduced contents of total dissoluble protein, MJ and carbohydrates, and LOX1 activity. Additionally the activity of LOX isozymes became weaker, with two isozyme bands disappeared. In contrast, these physiological and biochemical indexes were increased under MJ treatment. RT-PCR also demonstrated that the expression of LOX1 gene was inhibited under SHAM treatment, induced under MJ treatment. These results suggested that LOX1 might regulate the growth and development of Gladiolus corm through affecting JAs biosynthesis cycles, and then resulting in carbohydrate accumulation. The corm formation could be improved by MJ, but suppressed by SHAM, in which, MJ 0.5 mmol/L was the optimum concentration for promoting corm formation and enlargement in Gladiolus.  相似文献

The effects of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) on the fruit yield, growth and nutrient element content of strawberry cv. Fern were investigated under organic growing conditions between 2006 and 2008. The experimental plot was a completely randomized design with 3 replicates. Three PGPB strains (Pseudomonas BA-8, Bacillus OSU-142 and Bacillus M-3) were used alone or in combination as bio-fertilizer agent in the experiment. Data through 3 years showed that the use of PGPB significantly increased fruit yield, plant growth and leaf P and Zn contents. Root inoculation of M3 and floral and foliar spraying of OSU-142 and BA-8 bacteria stimulated plant growth resulting in significant yield increases. M3 + BA-8, BA-8 + OSU-142, M3, M3 + OSU-142 and BA-8 applications increased cumulative yield by 33.2%, 18.4%, 18.2%, 15.3% and 10.5%, respectively. Number of fruits per plant significantly increased by the applications of M3 + BA-8 (91.73) and M3 (81.58) compared with the control (68.66). In addition, P and Zn contents of strawberry leaves with bacterial inoculation significantly increased under organic growing conditions. Available P contents in soil were increased from 0.35 kg P2O5/da at the beginning of the study to 2.00, 1.97 and 1.82 kg P2O5/da by M3 + OSU-142, M3 + BA-8 and M3 + BA-8 + OSU-142 applications, respectively. Overall, the results of this study suggest that root inoculation of Bacillus M3 alone or in combination with spraying Bacillus OSU-142 or Pseudomonas BA-8 have the potential to increase the yield, growth and nutrition content of strawberry plant under organic growing conditions.  相似文献

Chromosome observation is necessary to elucidate the structure, function, organization, and evolution of octoploid strawberry plants’ genes and genomes. However, distinguishing strawberries’ chromosomes from one another using light microscopy is extremely difficult, not only because of their small size and large number, but also because current chromosome observation methods are insufficient. Chromosome preparation and staining using maceration enzymes, acetic acid, and DAPI (4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) were improved for this study to obtain clear images of somatic chromosomes in Fragaria vesca (2n = 14) and Fragaria×ananassa (2n = 56). Collected root tips of octoploid plants were placed in 0.002 M 8-hydroxyquinoline solution for 1 h and stored at 4 °C for 16 h. Subsequently, they were fixed using 3:1 absolute alcohol:glacial acetic acid for 40 min, hydrolyzed in the 1N HCl solution at room temperature for 2 h, macerated using an enzyme solution for 25 min at 42 °C, and stained in 1.5% lacto-propionic orcein solution. On the other hand, in case of DAPI staining, the macerated root tips of octoploid plants were soaked in 60% acetic acid for 5 min before staining. Clear digital images of F. vesca and F.×ananassa were obtained using light and fluorescent microscopy. Their respective 14 and 56 chromosomes were counted. Fluorescent microscopy yielded clear chromosome images at the pro-metaphase in F. vesca and F.×ananassa. This chromosome observation method alleviates the difficulties that have heretofore hindered chromosome analyses of strawberry plants.  相似文献

Changes in membrane lipid composition are important in the acclimation of plants. The influence of four day/night growing temperature combinations (18/12, 25/12, 25/22, and 30/22 °C) on membrane lipids of ‘Earliglow’ and ‘Kent’ strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) were studied. The monogalactosyl diglyceride (MGDG) and digalactosyl diglyceride (DGDG) were the major galactolipids in the strawberry leaves. ‘Earliglow’ contained a higher amount of galactolipids in the leaves than ‘Kent’. The major phospholipids in the strawberry leaves, roots, and fruit were phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). PC and PE were the two predominant phospholipids in the strawberry. The leaves and fruit of ‘Earliglow’ contained higher amounts of phospholipids compared to those of ‘Kent’, whereas ‘Kent’ strawberry roots had higher phospholipids. Palmitic (C16:0), stearic (C18:0), oleic (C18:1), linoleic (C18:2), and α-linolenic (C18:3) acids were major fatty acids in galacto- and phospholipids of the ‘Earliglow’ and ‘Kent’ strawberry. PC is very rich in linolenic acid in leaves compared to the fruit and root tissues. PC had the highest ratio of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids among all phospholipids. There was a significant increase in the content of galactolipids (MGDG, DGDG) and phospholipids (PC, PI, PG and PE) and unsaturation of their fatty acids in the cool day/night growth temperature. Increasing day/night growth temperatures decreased MGDG/DGDG ratios. The shifts in saturation and composition of fatty acids observed with strawberry may be an adaptation response of plants to the temperature changes.  相似文献

The effect of night temperature on short day (SD) floral induction has been studied in three June-bearing strawberry cultivars of different geographic origin and compared with yield performance in the cool Nordic environment. At the optimum day temperature of 18 °C, the SD flowering response of the cultivars ‘Florence’ and ‘Korona’ increased significantly with increasing night temperature from 9 to 18 °C, while an optimum was reached at 15 °C in the cultivar ‘Frida’ that is selected under cool-environment conditions in Norway. Also, while saturated flowering response was obtained with 3 weeks of SD treatment at all temperatures in ‘Frida’, several plants of ‘Florence’ and ‘Korona’ failed to initiate flowers at 9 °C night temperature even with 5 weeks of SD. The effect of extended SD period was particularly pronounced in ‘Florence’. The slow SD floral induction response of ‘Florence’ was associated with a 2 week delay of anthesis in subsequent long day (LD) conditions at 21 °C. Yield performance of the same cultivars during 2 years under field conditions at Nes Hedmark and in North Norway also demonstrated that the yield potential of ‘Florence’ was not realized under the climatic conditions prevailing at these locations. In both years the yields varied significantly among the cultivars, ‘Frida’ having the highest yields followed by ‘Korona’, with ‘Florence’ far below. It is concluded that, in the Nordic environment, autumn (September) night temperatures are obviously sub-optimal for yield performance of some June-bearing strawberry cultivars, and that this effect is mediated by autumn temperature effects on flower initiation responses.  相似文献

High temperatures are known to reduce fruit size and fruit weight in strawberry, but cultivar differences in the response to high temperature stress during the reproductive stage up to the second inflorescence have not been sufficiently reported. We examined the effect of two day/night temperature regimes on fruit set and fruit growth in two cultivars, ‘Nyoho’ and ‘Toyonoka’. A high day/night temperature of 30/25 °C reduced the number of inflorescences, flowers, and fruits in both cultivars compared with plants grown at 23/18 °C. The percentage of fruit set in ‘Nyoho’ was not significantly different between the two temperature treatments, while that in ‘Toyonoka’ was much lower at 30/25 °C than at 23/18 °C. Days to ripening was shorter at 30/25 °C than at 23/18 °C, and no cultivar differences were observed. Fresh weight of primary, secondary, and tertiary fruits was greater at 23/18 °C than at 30/25 °C in both cultivars, and no cultivar differences were observed, except in tertiary fruits. The diameter of fruits from all positions was also reduced at 30/25 °C in both cultivars. Relative growth rates of fruits showed two peaks in both cultivars and in both temperature treatments. Both peaks appeared earlier at 30/25 °C than at 23/18 °C. Percentage of fruit set at 30/25 °C in the second inflorescence was also significantly lower in ‘Toyonoka’ than in ‘Nyoho’. These results indicate that high temperature stress negatively affects the reproductive process in strawberry and that plant response to high temperature stress is cultivar-related in such responses.  相似文献

In the Mediterranean region, cold-stored plants (summer planting system) are used as the main strawberry planting material (plant establishing period July–August). However, recently fresh plants (winter planting system) have also started being used for strawberry production (plant establishing period October–November). As the plantations originated from cold-stored or fresh plants differ in plant growth and yield, some differences in fruit quality have also been expected; therefore, the objective of the current study was to compare fruit quality of plants originated from different propagation material. Cold-stored plants were well developed before the beginning of the spring harvest, while fresh plants continued growth concomitantly with fruiting. The harvesting period of cold-stored plants lasted 4–6 weeks (second week of April–second half of May). Fresh plants produced fewer and larger fruits than cold-stored plants, but for a longer harvest period, which lasted throughout all summer. Differences in soluble solids and dry matter content between the fruits from cold-stored and fresh plants were observed in the first three sampling dates in both years of the experiment. In some sampling dates, significant differences in anthocyanin, titratable acidity and ascorbic acid content, were observed between fruits of plants originated from different propagation material.  相似文献

Unreduced gamete formation is significant in the evolutionary development of complex polyploidy series found in wild strawberry, genus Fragaria (Rosaceae). Also, it is important for genetics and breeding in strawberry plants to elucidate the mechanism of unreduced gamete formation. The objective of this study was to search for ploidy anomalies resulting from artificial diploid × octoploid crosses, and examine the mechanism through which these unreduced gametes were produced. Five everbearing cultivars of Fragaria vesca L. diploid (2n = 2x = 14) were crossed with pollen from six June-bearing cultivars of Fragaria × ananassa Duch., octoploid (2n = 8x = 56). A total of 3000 mature seeds, 100 from each of the 30 parental combinations were sown at 23 °C/20 °C (day/night) under artificial lighting with a 16 h day. The seedlings were transplanted to pots and grown in a greenhouse. Reproductive and morphological observations, flow cytometry analyses, chromosome counts and DNA analyses using CAPS markers were performed to identify the genetic background of the offspring. Most of the seed (79%) did not germinate or died soon after germination. Of the seedlings produced, 7% seemed to be pure F. vesca based on morphological characteristics, flow cytometry analyses and chromosome counts; 14% were pentaploids (2n = 5x = 35), 0.1% were hexaploids (2n = 6x = 42), and 0.03% (one individual) was aneuploid (2n = 8x + 2 = 58). Electrophoresis banding patterns obtained by CAPS marker analysis were heterozygotic in the 8x pollen parent but homozygotic in the aneuploid progeny. Judging from the chromosome counts and the CAPS marker analysis, the aneuploid was the result of a homozygous unreduced pollen grain (8x) crossed with an incomplete chromosome compliment from the egg. Because of the homozygosity, the unreduced male gamete must have been derived from second division restitution (SDR) in the octoploid pollen parent.  相似文献

The effects of timing of nitrogen (N) fertilization relative to the beginning of a 4-week floral-inducing short-day (SD) period have been studied in ‘Korona’ strawberry plants under controlled environment conditions. Groups of low fertility plants were fertilized with 100 ml of calcium nitrate solution for 3 days a week for a period of 3 weeks starting at various times before and at the beginning of the SD period, as well as at different times during the SD period. All plants, including SD and long day (LD) control plants, received a weekly fertilization with a low concentration complete fertilizer solution throughout the experiment. Leaf area, fresh and dry matter increments of leaves, crowns and roots, as well as leaf chlorophyll concentration (SPAD values) were monitored during the experimental period. A general enhancement of growth took place at all times of N fertilization. This was paralleled by an increase in leaf chlorophyll concentration, indicating that the control plants were in a mild state of N deficiency. When N fertilization was started 2 weeks before beginning of the SD period, flowering was delayed by 7 days, and this was gradually changed to an advancement of 8 days when the same treatment was started 3 weeks after the first SD. The amount of flowering was generally increased by N fertilization although the effect varied greatly with the time of N application. The greatest flowering enhancement occurred when N fertilization started 1 week after the first SD when the number of flowering crowns and the number of inflorescences per plant were more than doubled compared with the SD control, while fertilization 2 weeks before SD had no significant effect on these parameters. Importantly, the total number of crowns per plant was not affected by N fertilization at any time, indicating that enhancement of flowering was not due to an increase in potential inflorescence sites. No flowering took place in the control plants in LD. Possible physiological mechanisms involved and practical applications of the findings are discussed.  相似文献

Four different NaCl concentrations in the irrigation water, 0.8, 3, 6 and 9 mol m−3, were applied as experimental treatments to beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) grown in completely closed hydroponic systems in a greenhouse. Initially, the Na and Cl concentrations increased rapidly in the root zone, as indicated by the values measured in the drainage water, and this resulted in corresponding increases in the Na/water and Cl/water uptake ratios. However, as these ratios approached equilibrium with the NaCl/water ratios in the irrigation water, the Na and Cl concentrations in the root zone converged to maximal levels, which depended on the treatment. The highest Na and Cl concentrations in the root zone and the corresponding NaCl concentrations in each treatment were used to establish relationships between the external NaCl concentration and the Na/water or Cl/water uptake ratios, which proved to be exponential for Na but linear for Cl. These relationships were then used in a previously established model [Savvas, D., Kotsiras, A., Meletiou, G., Margariti, S., Tsirogiannis, I., 2005a. Modeling the relationship between water uptake by cucumber and NaCl accumulation in a closed hydroponic system. HortScience 40, 802–807] to enable the prediction of the Na and Cl concentrations in the root zone in relation to the cumulative water uptake. The curves predicted by the model followed a convex pattern, with an initially rapid increase in Na and Cl concentrations in the root zone followed by a gradual levelling out as the cumulative water consumption rose. The measured Na and Cl concentrations in the drainage water were more accurately predicted at the higher NaCl concentrations in the irrigation water, although those predicted at 0.8 mol m−3 of NaCl were considered acceptable for use in commercial practice. Bean showed a high efficiency of Na exclusion from the upper leaves, while Cl was readily translocated to the young leaves as the external Cl concentration rose. Plant growth decreased with increasing salinity in a way similar to that reported for beans constantly exposed to comparable salinity levels.  相似文献

Fruit productivity of the garden strawberry, Fragaria × ananassa Duch., is a result of interrelationship of yield components contributing to it directly or indirectly. The main aim of the investigation was to find out whether there exists any general regularity, connecting relationships between main yield components in first cropping year to average yield of two main seasons. Two successive studies which primarily included 23 genotypes, differing in yield components and productivity, each, were planted in field conditions in spring 1999 and in spring 2000, respectively, and used for data collection to explore the material obtained in them. Four key yield components and average yields were measured in both cropping years, after which all possible ratios between the components were calculated to find out: first, the relationships to be influential on average yield of the two main seasons; second, type of the probable yield dependence upon the ratios; and, third, their values leading to high yields. Two ratios between the key yield components in first season, i.e.: inflorescence number per plant to branch crown number per plant, named ratio 1, and fruit weight (g) to flower count per inflorescence, named ratio 2, have been found to be related to average yield. An irregular surface, with a single peak falling approximately in its centre, describes average yield dependence upon the ratios. Values of the two ratios falling in the range of 1.0–1.6 each, provided that they are close, have enabled plants to produce high yields cumulatively over two first years. The paper highlights the most important differences in plant behaviour and yield dynamics of strawberry genotypes, depending on combinations of the ratios in first year, discerning those, which have been particularly advantageous to obtain very high yields, and are influenced by negative environmental factors least of all. Based on the findings, a method of predicting of average yield has been developed. Following this, usefulness of the method and possibilities of its using in strawberry breeding and variety trial are discussed.  相似文献

The objetive of this work was to study if the addition of nutrients to the irrigation water modified ‘Manzanilla de Sevilla’ olive pulp and pit growth. The experiment was carried out during the 2003 fruit-growth period in an irrigated orchard near Seville, southern Spain. Fruit samples were taken in July and September, at 12 and 21 weeks after full bloom (AFB) respectively, in trees irrigated with (T1) or without (T0) the addition of nutrients (N–P–K). The nutrient availability of T1 fruits increased the fruit fresh and dry weight, longitudinal and equatorial diameters, and the pulp-to-pit ratio, characteristics particularly appreciated for table olives. The balance of growth between the fruit mesocarp (pulp) and endocarp (pit) was modified because those two tissues were affected differently. Mesocarp fresh weight was significantly higher at both 12 and 21 weeks AFB in the fertilized treatment, as was mesocarp dry weight at 12 weeks AFB. Neither the endocarp fresh and dry weight nor shape (the ratio of the equatorial and longitudinal diameters) was altered at either of the two studied dates. These results emphasize the importance of an appropriate fertilization management in irrigated olive orchards, particularly for table olives, and also confirm the olive endocarp as a strong sink tissue that competes with the mesocarp during early development.  相似文献
