CASE HISTORY: A 5-year-old neutered male Cornish Rex cat was presented for evaluation with a history of vomiting over the previous 5 days.

CLINICAL FINDINGS: An abdominal mass was palpated, which was shown to be cystic by ultrasound examination. Exploratory surgery revealed this to be associated with the pancreas and it was duly resected. Histopathology was performed on the cystic mass.

DIAGNOSIS: Pancreatic cyst with associated chronic active infl ammation.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This is the first report of a true pancreatic cyst in a cat.  相似文献

A paraprostatic cyst and lymphosarcoma were found in a neutered male cat that was being evaluated for monoparesis and pollakiuria. The cyst was first detected on physical examination as a palpable caudal abdominal mass. Survey radiography, intravenous urography and ultrasonography were used to further evaluate the cyst. The exact histological nature of the cyst was determined by post mortem examination to be a paraprostatic cyst of prostatic origin that communicated with the urethra. The lining of the cyst consisted of one to two layers of transitional epithelium which was continuous with prostatic ductules in several locations. This is the first reported paraprostatic cyst of prostatic origin in a cat.  相似文献

Acquired arachnoid cyst in a cat   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
A 5-year-old Birman cat presented with paraparesis associated with a fracture of the third thoracic vertebra and was managed conservatively. Voluntary function was regained over the next 6 months, but the cat was referred 4 years after the trauma because of recurrence of hindlimb paresis and ataxia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a spinal arachnoid cyst at the level of the fourth thoracic vertebra, which was treated surgically by dorsal laminectomy and durectomy, and hindlimb function subsequently recovered. The cat re-presented 4 years later for recurrent hindlimb paresis. Myelography and computed tomography–myelography (CT-M) showed dorsolateral pooling of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) at the previous laminectomy site. The neurological signs after the second surgery improved, but not as much as after the first surgery and the cat remained ataxic with moderate paresis. Seven months later repeat CT-M revealed an atrophic spinal cord, but negligible pooling of CSF at the previous site of the arachnoid cyst. The cat could walk, but was being treated for self-induced trauma of the left hindlimb that was thought to be related to paraesthesia. The neurological signs gradually deteriorated over 3 months and the cat was euthanased.  相似文献

A dentigerous cyst was diagnosed in the right rostral maxilla of a 6-month-old Siamese cat affecting the maxillary right canine tooth. The deciduous maxillary right canine tooth was extracted and the dentigerous cyst wall was curetted. The permanent tooth was not removed, however it was mobile following the surgical procedure. Examination 6-months following surgery indicated appropriate development of the tooth with no mobility or periodontal pocket formation. The maxillary right canine tooth had an abnormal shape but was functional with an acceptable appearance.  相似文献

A 17-month-old cat presented for frequent swallowing, occasional cough and stertor. Radiographic evaluation revealed a soft tissue mass at the level of the soft palate. Oral examination revealed a soft tissue mass within the soft palate. Surgical resection was performed. Histopathology was consistent with a large developmental cyst. Following surgical management the cat has remained clinically free of signs for 2 months.  相似文献

Enteric duplication is a rare developmental malformation in people, dogs and cats. The purpose of the present report is to describe the first case of a rectal duplication cyst in a 7-year-old domestic shorthair cat presenting for acute constipation and tenesmus. On rectal palpation a spherical mass compressing the lumen of the rectum could be felt in the dorsal wall of the rectum. A computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed the presence of a well demarcated cystic lesion in the pelvic canal, dorsal to the rectum. The cyst was surgically removed via a perineal approach. No communication with the rectal lumen could be demonstrated. Histopathological examination was consistent with a rectal duplication cyst. Clinical signs resolved completely after excision of this conjoined non-communicating cystic rectal duplicate.  相似文献

This study describes the ultrasonographic and cytopathological characteristics of malignant neoplasms of the exocrine pancreas and their value in making an antemortem diagnosis. The medical records of eight dogs and five cats were reviewed. The clinical presentations were variable and at times mimicked pancreatitis. Overall, cytopathology of ultrasound or fluoroscopic-guided biopsies or fine-needle aspirates, or impressions from surgical biopsies were helpful in establishing the diagnosis in 10 of 12 animals where it was performed. Histopathology of ultrasound or fluoroscopic-guided biopsies provided a diagnosis in five of six cases where it was performed.  相似文献

Surgical treatment of laryngeal paralysis in a cat   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0       下载免费PDF全文
A one year old cat, with a history of respiratory dyspnea since it was eight weeks of age, was found to have abnormal function of the larynx. A castellated laryngofissure and bilateral ventriculocordectomy was performed. The respiratory distress was alleviated and the cat's personality changed from being apprehensive and elusive to that of a friendly, social animal. A slight cough remained and a fiberoptic examination four months postoperatively revealed that the right arytenoid drooped medially. Thirteen months after the arytenoid was sutured to the lateral wall of the pharynx, the cat is coughing less frequently and appears to be doing well.  相似文献

Spinal arachnoid cysts (SACs) are uncommon expanding lesions in the spinal canal. They are rarely diagnosed in dogs, and there are only four published cases in cats. We report a case of a 12-year-old cat with recurrent signs of intermittent urinary incontinence and hind limb ataxia 2 years after surgical marsupialisation of a spinal arachnoid cyst at T11/12. Recurrence of a cyst was diagnosed by myelography. Repeated marsupialisation after laminectomy was successful and the cat recovered satisfactorily although intensive physical therapy was necessary. SACs are very rare in cats and seem to occur mainly as a secondary lesion to spinal and meningeal trauma or irritation due to bony changes of the vertebrae.  相似文献

Aneurysmal bone cyst in a rib of a cat   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An aneurysmal bone cyst was identified in the rib of a 3 1/2-year-old domestic shorthair cat. Surgical excision of the cyst, with reconstruction of the thoracic wall, was performed. Though aneurysmal bone cyst is a benign neoplastic condition that may be associated with locally aggressive growth, it does not metastasize. The condition is rare in any species other than human beings, but has been reported in cats, dogs, and horses.  相似文献

An eight-year-old domestic shorthair cat was evaluated because of dyspnoea secondary to pleural effusion. Ultrasound examination identified a large anechoic cyst-like structure in the caudal thorax. A median sternotomy was performed, and the cystic mass was removed. Microscopically, the excised tissue was identified as a multilocular thyroglossal duct cyst with ectopic thyroid tissue. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of a mediastinal thyroglossal duct cyst in a cat. Despite the rarity of this lesion, it should be considered when a cystic thoracic structure is identified on thoracic ultrasound. Surgical excision of the cyst resulted in complete resolution of the pleural effusion and clinical signs.  相似文献

A two-year-old cat with episodic dyspnea was diagnosed with an intrapericardial cyst via two-dimensional echocardiography. The cyst directly compressed the right ventricle, resulting in cardiac tamponade. Centesis of the cyst was performed to reduce tamponade prior to surgery. At surgery, a large, fluid-filled cystic structure was found within the pericardium. The cystic structure was continuous with a pedicle of liver that passed through a small peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia. Surgical resolution was achieved by median sternotomy, midline pericardotomy, resection of the cyst, and diaphragmatic herniorrhaphy.  相似文献
