RENAL ECTOPIA IN A DOG

A case is reported of renal ectopia in a dog and possible aetiology and clinical implications are discussed.     

PNEUMATOSIS COLI IN A DOG

The extensive presence of air in the submucosal area of the colon was observed on abdominal radiographs of a one-year-old female Maltese. The diagnosis of pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (pneumatosis coli when localized to the colon) is made when radiographs demonstrate submucosal or subserosal gas accumulation of the intestinal tract. The condition usually resolves spontaneously, but the potential for complications is present.     

GASTROGASTRIC INTUSSUSCEPTION IN A DOG

A three-year-old, intact male, Rottweiler is presented with a gastrogastric intussusception. This is one of only two known reports of gastrogastric intussusception in the dog. Lateral and ventrodorsal radiographs and ultrasound revealed a gastric mass, however the diagnosis of gastrogastric intussusception was made during surgery. The patient in this report had no associated tumor and the pyloric antrum was the intussusceptum. Cause of the intussusception is unknown.     

POLYOSTOTIC COCCIDIOIDOMYCOSIS IN A DOG

GRANULOMATOUS MENINGOENCEPHALOMYELITIS IN A DOG

Clinical and pathological findings in a 2.5-year-old speyed female dog with granulomatous meningoencephalomyelitis are described. The clinical course was progressive with the major neurological signs being referable to the posterior brain stem and cerebellum. Histological examination of the brain revealed a multifocal granulomatous meningoencephalitis predominantly associated with the blood vessels of the white matter.     

EMPHYSEMATOUS PYOMETRA IN A DOG

An 8-year-old intact female West Highland White Terrier was examined for anorexia, vomiting, abdominal distension, and mild purulent vulvar discharge. The results of physical examination, laboratory testing, and radiography are presented. Emphysematous pyometra was suspected and confirmed at surgery. Clostridium perfringens was isolated from the uterine lumen. A brief discussion of emphysematous pyometra is presented.     

STILBOESTROL TOXICITY IN A DOG

A case of stilboestrol toxicity is described in a dog which was treated for prostatic hyperplasia with stilboestrol dipropionate (10 mg) daily for 5 days. An initial anaemia and thrombocytopaenia of 19,500/microliters was recorded on day 11, and a severe leukocytosis of 125,300/microliters on day 15 was followed by a precipitous drop to 8,400/microliters on day 21. The dog received antibiotic treatment for concurrent peritonitis and prostatitis/cystitis between days 7 and 15. The dog died on day 41 with marrow aplasia.     

MYELOID NEOPLASIA IN A DOG

A 4-year-old Scotch Collie bitch was presented for examination because of hyperthermia and anaemia. Haematological examination and bone marrow biopsy led to a diagnosis of myeloid neoplasia. At autopsy there was slight enlargement of the liver, spleen and some lymph nodes. Microscopic examination revealed extensive infiltration of these tissues by neoplastic myeloid cells.
