Mucosal disease of cattle: a late sequel to fetal infection 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The introduction of a heifer which was persistently infected with bovine virus diarrhoea-mucosal disease virus into groups of pregnant cattle resulted in abortion, neonatal death, persistent infection and, subsequently, mucosal disease in the surviving progeny. Cattle affected with mucosal disease were invariably seronegative at the time of investigation and subsequent cases occurred only in calves previously identified as seronegative and persistently infected. The detection of virus antigen by immunofluorescent staining of cells obtained from the nasopharynx was shown to be an efficient and rapid method for identifying persistently infected cattle, correlating perfectly with virus isolation. 相似文献

A 12 month survey of the different diseases of the digital region of dairy cattle was conducted in the province of Quebec in order to determine the relation between the frequency of the main digital lesions and different factors involved.
Sole ulcer, white zone disease and erosion of the bulb represented 88.6% of all the lesions. The majority of the cases were recorded during the pasture season. An initial peak of prevalence was found in two year old heifers but cows were mainly affected between the ages of five to eight years. Sixty-six percent of the lesions appeared during the first three months of lactation.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in cattle is characterized by the formation of vesicles and erosions in the mouth, teats and feet. Despite extremely high morbidity, mortality in adults is usually very low, however up to 50% of calves dies due to cardiac involvement or secondary infections. This paper describes the signs of FMD in cattle as well as those of other diseases which causes similar lesions in this species. 相似文献

Clostridium botulinum and type-B C botulinum toxin were isolated from a necrotic wound that developed subsequent to castration in a 2-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. The horse had clinical signs of botulism and was successfully treated with wound debridement, C botulinum type-B antitoxin, potassium penicillin, and supportive care. 相似文献

An excessively long ileal stump, the result of a previous jejunocecostomy, had intussuscepted into the cecum and subsequently obstructed the cecocolic orifice of a 12-year-old Quarter Horse mare. Clinical signs were dehydration, ileus, and endotoxemia. The diagnosis was made at necropsy. 相似文献

Surface temperatures of hoofs of calves given toxic anion fractions of tall fescue were measured with an infrared sensitive camera. These changes expressed in terms of a weighted average coronary band temperature relate to clinical signs of fescue foot. The weighted average coronary band temperature values for control calves given saline solution were 27 to 31 C; those values of test calves given anion fractions of tall fescue were as low as 22 +/- 1 C. Videothermometry provides an independent, permanent, objective measure that is useful in assessing fescue-foot potential of tall fescue fractions by intraperitoneal injection. Videothermometry may also serve as a clinical means for determining progression of the total fescue foot syndrome. 相似文献

Hyena disease was first reported in France in 1975 and since then has been recognized in many countries. It is currently regarded as a disorder of skeletal development, mainly localised in the pelvic limbs of young cattle. Some investigators consider that it is a metabolic disease but the authors believe that it may be caused by a virus. Their hypothesis, according to which bovine virus diarrhoea-mucosal disease virus is involved, is based on epidemiological, histopathological and immunological evidence. 相似文献

Since the introduction of AI, venereal diseases caused by Tritrichomonas fetus and Campylobacter fetus subsp. venerealis haved been eradicated in The Netherlands. Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus can cause sporadic abortion and early embryonic death. When natural breeding is practised, venereal diseases must be included in the list of differential diagnoses of fertility problems. A case study of a Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus infection is described. 相似文献
