In 21 healthy calves, 1-6 months old, the interrelationship and comparability of acid-base balance variables (pH, HCO3-, BE) and blood gases (pCO2, pO2, and sat-O2) were evaluated in arterial blood collected from a larger, centrally localised (the a. axillaris) and a smaller peripheral artery (the a. auricularis caudalis). Sampling was done by direct puncture of the vessels without local anaesthesia. Except for blood pH, significant differences were observed in the average values of pCO2, pO2, HCO3-, sat-O2 (P < 0.001), and BE (P < 0.05). Analyses of blood from the a. axillaris showed higher pH, pO2, and sat-O2 values, and lower pCO2, HCO3-, and BE values compared with that from the a. auricularis caudalis. Despite statistically significant differences between some variables, in all indices high and significant correlation relationships were recorded (R = 0.928-0.961; P < 0.001). Therefore, from the biological and clinical point of view, these differences are unimportant and the presented method of peripheral arterial blood sampling can be considered suitable for evaluating blood gases and acid-base status. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of propofol on acid-base balance and ionic composition of arterial and venous blood in clinically healthy goats. The experiment was performed on ten adult goats. Propofol was administered intravenously at bolus dose of 6 mg/kg bw. The heart and breath rate, acid-base balance (pH, pCO2, pO2, HCO3-, BE, O2SAT, ctCO2) and ionic composition (Na+, K+, Cl-) of arterial and venous blood were measured before injection and 3, 6 and 15 min. after. The propofol infusion induced increase of heart rate, decrease of breath rate and compensated respiratory acidosis in venous and arterial blood. It was found that changes of acid-base balance parameters in arterial blood arose faster than in venous blood. The levels of sodium and chloride ions in both types of blood were similar, whereas the level of potassium ions was higher in venous blood during entire experiment. 相似文献

The pH, partial pressure of oxygen (pO(2)), partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO(2)), concentration of bicarbonate (HCO(3)(-)), base excess and oxygen saturation (SO(2)) were measured in venous and arterial blood from 57 newborn calves from 55 dams. Blood samples were collected immediately after birth and 30 minutes, four, 12 and 24 hours later from a jugular vein and a caudal auricular artery. The mean (sd) pO(2) and SO(2) of arterial blood increased from 45.31 (16.02) mmHg and 64.16 (20.82) per cent at birth to a maximum of 71.89 (8.32) mmHg and 92.81 (2.32) per cent 12 hours after birth, respectively. During the same period, the arterial pCO(2) decreased from 57.31 (4.98) mmHg to 43.74 (4.75) mmHg. The correlation coefficients for arterial and venous blood were r=0.86 for pH, r=0.85 for base excess and r=0.76 for HCO(3)(-). The calves with a venous blood pH of less than 7.2 immediately after birth had significantly lower base excess and HCO(3)(-) concentrations for 30 minutes after birth than the calves with a venous blood pH of 7.2 or higher. In contrast, the arterial pO(2) was higher in the calves with a blood pH of less than 7.2 than in those with a higher pH for 30 minutes after birth. 相似文献

Quantitative composition of gastro-intestinal-flora was determined in 23 clinically healthy calves and the course of germ spreading was followed up. In comparison with these healthy animals in 25 diarrhoea affected calves at the age of 4 to 17 days there could be observed signigicant differences only in few parts of the gastro-intestinal-tract concerning the quantitative composition of germ flora. Digestibility of nutrients was determined in healthy calves and in those with diarrhoea at the age of two and three weeks. The total collection of feces and indigestible marker methods (with Cr2O3) were used. High equality of results and statistically non-significant differences between the method of a total collection of feces and indigestible marker one in the suckling calves (Tab. II) confirm the suitability of using these two methods to determine digestibility. Based on the composition and commercially recommended feeding guide of milk replacer, it is clear that it has lower digestible energy, Zn and Fe intake. Slightly higher digestible crude protein and Mg intake, optimum Ca and P intake, all these values were calculated for 1 kg of live weight (Tab. I). Nutrient contents is responsible for nutrient ratio which is unbalanced and for low contents of digestible energy (76.5 KJ per g of digestible crude protein) instead of recommended values of 100-110 KJ per of digestible crude protein in milk replacer in suckling calves. In six clinically healthy calves fed with milk replacer Laktavit twice a day, an apparent digestibility of organic matter was found to be 95.7 +/- 1.8%, crude protein 93.5 +/- 1.8%, fat 94.5 +/- 1.4%, carbohydrates 97.2 +/- 1.5%, Ca absorption was 86.5 +/- 2.8%, P 95.3 +/- 2.9%. To compare arterial blood gas pressures and acid-base balance in geriatric and young adult dogs, 23 clinically healthy aged dogs (>10 years old) and 16 young adult dogs (two to four years old) were studied. Blood gases (PaO2 and PaCO2), pH, Na, K, Ca and Cl were measured in arterial blood samples using selective electrodes. Haemoglobin was quantified with a co-oximeter. Total proteins and phosphorus were measured by spectrophotometry in plasma. The alveolar to arterial PO2 gradient (P(A-a)O2), bicarbonate, anion gap and the base excess of blood were calculated. Quantitative analysis of acid-base balance was carried out by calculating unidentified anions. Old dogs had significantly higher P(A-a)O2 than young dogs (2·5±0·3 versus 1·4±0·3 KPa). Although the differences were not significant, aged dogs also had a lower PaO2. No differences were detected in PaCO2, pH, Na, K, Ca, Cl, haemoglobin, phosphorus, bicarbonate and base excess of blood. Plasma proteins were higher in old dogs than in young dogs (7·1±0·2 versus 6·5±0·2 g dl−1). Anion gap was increased in aged dogs; however, no changes were found in unidentified anions. In conclusion, an increase in P(A-a)O2 has been identified in a group of geriatric dogs. No major changes have been found in the acid-base balance of aged dogs. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to compare the acid-base balance parameters of arterial, venous and capillary blood in clinically healthy goats, and to determine the electrolyte content of venous and arterial blood. The experiment was performed on ten adult goats. It was found that the acid-base balance parameters of venous blood differed from those of arterial blood, whereas the parameters of capillary and arterial blood were similar. Twenty-seven newborn Holstein bull calves were bottle-fed 2 litres of pooled colostrum which had been stored at -20 degrees C. Blood gas analysis before feeding showed a partially compensated respiratory acidosis in most of the calves, although they all appeared to be clinically normal. Mean venous blood pH was 7.346, carbon dioxide tension (PCO2) was 57.5 mmHg (7.6 kPa), bicarbonate was 30.6 mmol/l and base excess was 3.82 mmol/l. Mean serum IgG1 increased to 8.1 g/l after feeding colostrum. Several significant positive correlations were observed between post-absorptive serum protein, IgG1, IgM, gamma-glutamyltransferase (gamma GT) and D-xylose. Calves with either low serum albumin, high serum CK or low serum gamma GT before feeding tended to have less absorption of colostral protein. It was concluded that reduced absorption of IgG1 from colostrum is associated with hypercapnia in apparently healthy newborn calves. 相似文献

Eperythrozoon infection in swine: effect on the acid-base balance and the glucose, lactate and pyruvate content of venous blood 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The influence of latent and of splenectomy-induced clinically manifest Eperythrozoon suis infection on the following parameters of the carbohydrate metabolism and the acid-base status was tested in venous blood of German Landrace pigs: Levels of glucose, lactic and pyruvic acid, blood-pH, base excess, actual bicarbonate concentration, standard bicarbonate concentration, pCO2, pO2. The latent E. suis infection resulted in a consistent decrease of blood glucose level. 23 days after infection, blood glucose was reduced by 25% of the initial value. The other parameters were not changed by latent E. suis infection. Acute Eperythrozoonosis induced severe hypoglycaemia (means Gluc, = 39.7 mg/dl and blood acidosis (means pH = 7.13). In vitro experiments showed that break-down of glucose in E. suis infected blood occurs very rapidly. There was no significant reduction of the glucose concentration in control blood that had been treated accordingly. There was an increase of lactic acid (means = 62.7 mg/dl), pyruvic acid (means = 1.86 mg/dl), and pCO2 (means = 82.1 mm Hg). The concentrations of actual bicarbonate (means = 24.8 mmol/l) and standard bicarbonate (means = 20.9 mmol/l) were lowered, and there was a negative base excess (means = -3.56 mmol/l). The ratio of lactic and pyruvic acid changed from 11:1 to 30:1. It seems likely that E. suis itself is able to metabolize glucose. Acidosis is considered to result from both the increase of lactic acid (metabolic component) and an impairment of pulmonary gas exchange (respiratory component). 相似文献

Determination of intracellular acid-base status is reported in this paper by the example of erythrocytic haemolysate in dog. The difference between intracellular and extracellular acid-base ratios is highly significant and is of clinical relevance. Differences between species and the need for further experimental verification of the method are discussed in some detail.
