1. An experiment was conducted to study the effect of dietary phytate on the selenium status of chicks fed on a semi‐purified diet with or without supplements of sodium selenite or selenomethionine (200 μg Selenium/kg).

2. Assessment included measurement of growth and activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) (EC. 1.11.1.9), an enzyme that limits damage by free radical species arising from oxygen metabolism by catalysing the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and lipid hydroperoxides. In addition, information was obtained on forms of selenium in blood, liver, kidney, heart and muscle, distinguishing between selenide‐Se, reducible‐Se and non‐reducible‐Se.

3. Phytate caused significant reductions in growth, food consumption and food conversion efficiency. Supplementary selenium was without effect on growth but significantly increased GSHPx activity in all tissues. Phytate also increased GSHPx activity in blood and heart, and in muscle in the absence of supplementary selenium, but decreased the activity in kidney.

4. Concentrations of all forms of tissue selenium were significantly increased by supplementary selenium. In general, there was greater deposition from selenomethionine than from selenite and most was in non‐reducible form.

5. Phytate increased selenium in all tissues except muscle; it is not clear if this resulted from increased absorption or increased retention. It increased reducible‐Se in blood, liver and heart and non‐reducible‐Se in blood and kidney. Tissue concentrations of selenide‐Se were highly variable: presence or absence of phytate contributed to some significant interactions.

6. The results suggest that there is a positive relationship between phytate and selenium status in chicks, in contrast to its negative effect on growth.  相似文献

1. The deposition of selenium in egg components has been investigated in two experiments in which sodium selenite was added to a conventional cereal‐based layer diet.

2. Addition of graded amounts of selenite up to 4 mg Se/kg resulted in linear increases in the selenium content of egg white and yolk, and in protein fractions derived from them. The presence of selenium in yolk phosvitin indicates that deposition is not dependent upon the presence of cysteine.

3. Addition of sodium nitroprusside at 0–15 and 0–3 g/kg to diets having an addition of selenite at the highest concentration, 4 mg Se/kg, resulted in substantial reductions in the selenium concentration in egg components.

4. Samples from eggs laid by hens receiving a diet containing an additional 8 mg selenite Se/kg were subjected to dialysis against sodium hydroxide or cysteine, or subjected to reduction with hydrochloric acid and zinc under anaerobic conditions. Comparisons were made with similar samples prepared from eggs laid by hens on the control diet.

5. Both sodium hydroxide and cysteine were more effective at extracting additional diet‐derived selenium from whole white than from whole yolk. The proportion of selenium that could be extracted from the water‐soluble or the high density fractions of yolk by either reagent was similar for both control and high selenium samples. However, neither reagent was effective at removing selenium from the ovalbumin or globin fractions of white from control eggs but substantial amounts were extracted from high selenium samples.

6. Most of the selenium was present in non‐reducible forms in all samples. There was significantly more reducible selenium in ovalbumin from control eggs than from all other samples but even so non‐reducible selenium accounted for two thirds of the selenium present.

7. The differential responses to chemical treatment suggest that selenium can be deposited in eggs in an unspecified number of different forms. These have still to be characterised but site of formation of egg proteins, liver or oviduct, has a bearing on the forms of selenium deposited.  相似文献

1. The interaction between dietary cyanide, given in the form of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), and selenium has been studied in two experiments with growing chicks from 14 to 38 d of age.

2. In experiment 1, dietary selenium at 10 mg Se/kg reduced growth, food intake and efficiency of utilisation, and increased relative liver size and selenium content. All of these effects were eliminated by the addition of 0–1 g SNP/kg except for liver selenium content, which progressively declined towards control values as SNP was increased to 0–4 g/kg in increments of 0.1 g/kg. At 0.3 g SNP/kg, cyanide toxicity, as judged by decreased growth, reached significance.

3. In experiment 2, similar effects were observed with selenium at 10 mg Se/kg and SNP at 0.3 g/kg, but selenium deficiency was not evident from growth indicators when selenium supplementation of the diet was omitted completely, nor did these indicators suggest that deficiency was induced by cyanide.

4. In both experiments, plasma and liver glutathione peroxidase activity reflected the dietary selenium content. There was an interaction with dietary SNP content. With selenium intake at a toxic level, SNP increased enzyme activity, further evidence of alleviation of selenium toxicity, but when selenium intake was low and normal, SNP decreased activity in liver, an indication that cyanide could induce deficiency.

5. A possible mechanism for alleviation of selenium toxicity is proposed.  相似文献

1. This study evaluated the duodenal wall integrity, antioxidant status as well as some immunological parameters of broiler chickens supplemented with 0.5 g Thymus vulgaris essential oil (EO)/kg diet and 0.4 mg Se/kg DM (dry matter) derived from sodium selenite.

2. A total of 192 one-d-old randomly divided chickens of both sexes (Ross 308 hybrid broilers) were divided into 4 treatment groups of 48 birds each.

3. The first group was fed on a nutritionally balanced basal diet (BD). The other three groups received BD supplemented with 0.5 g/kg thyme oil, or 0.4 mg Se/kg DM, or both feed additives together.

4. The results for the evaluated feed additives were (1) thyme oil – decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration in duodenal mucosa and kidney, increased immunoglobulin A (IgA) concentration in duodenal mucosa, stimulated phagocytic activity in blood, improved intestinal barrier integrity (2) selenium – increased glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity in blood and liver as well as thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) activity in duodenal mucosa, liver and in the kidney, (3) EO with selenium – increased thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) activity in duodenal mucosa.

5. These results demonstrated that thyme oil alone showed more effective potential to improve intestinal barrier integrity and antioxidant status as well as evoking an immune response in chickens, than if diets were supplemented with both thyme oil and selenium.  相似文献

1. A 10-week experiment was conducted with Ross 308 broiler breeder chickens in cages to evaluate the influence of organic and inorganic sources of selenium (Se) supplementation. A total of 600 birds at 29 weeks of age were divided at random into 4 groups and fed on a maize–soya basal diet supplemented with different forms of Se.

2. The first (control) group was given the basal diet without Se supplementation, whereas the second, third and fourth groups were given, respectively, the basal diet with 0.3 mg/kg of inorganic Se in the form of sodium selenite or 0.3 and 0.5 mg/kg of organic Se in the form of Se enriched yeast (Se-yeast).

3. The experiment was carried out for 10 weeks to compare and evaluate the influence of Se supplementation on breeder performance, egg production, hatchability and the quality of eggs. Samples were collected for analysis at weeks 0, 5 and 10 of the experimental period.

4. At the end of the experiment (39 weeks), there was a reduction in mortality in breeders given diets supplemented with 0.5 mg/kg of Se-yeast. Supplementation of feed with 0.5 mg/kg organic Se increased egg production, percentage of settable eggs and hatchability.

5. Selenium supplementation increased egg weight and specific gravity compared to the control diet. However, no significant variation was found in albumen or yolk protein content at the end of week 10.

6. Selenium accumulation and glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) activity were lower in the egg albumen and yolk of control compared with Se-supplemented treatments. Se accumulation and GSHPx activity were higher in the group given 0.3 mg/kg organic compared to 0.3 mg/kg of inorganic Se.

7. The results favour the use of Se-yeast at the dose of 0.5 mg/kg in broiler breeder diets for better productivity of eggs, settable eggs, hatchability and higher Se accumulation and antioxidant status in eggs.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of including ascorbic acid (AA), palm oil or a combination of both in the diets of laying hens during the hot months in a tropical environment.

2. The inclusion of AA improved egg production, food intake and efficiency of utilisation, and decreased the cost of food per kg egg. The addition of 400 mg AA/kg diet gave the most efficient performance.

3. Palm oil inclusion reduced the effect of heat stress and increased egg production, egg weight, food intake and efficiency of utilisation.

4. When 200 mg AA and 50 g palm oil/kg were used, additive responses were obtained with further improvements in egg production, food cost and efficiency.

5. Ascorbic acid and palm oil when fed alone or in combination reduced the incidence of cracked eggs.

6. Thus, 400 mg ascorbic acid/kg of diet, 50 g palm oil or 200 mg AA plus 50 g palm oil/kg diet ameliorated the effects of heat stress in laying hens.  相似文献

1.?Combinations of chromium and copper were added to the diet to assess their effects on broiler meat characteristics.

2.?For this purpose 175 one-day-old broiler chicks were divided into 7 equal groups and were given treatment feeds containing copper sulphate, chromium chloride and nicotinic acid in different combinations.

3.?The study was carried out for 5 weeks and samples were collected at the end of 15, 29 and 35 d of treatment and at 42 d after a withdrawal period of one week.

4.?Cholesterol content had decreased significantly in breast meat at d 29 in all treatment groups. In thigh meat, it decreased significantly at d 29 in groups receiving two concentrations of chromium + two concentrations of copper. Cholesterol content remained lower even after withholding the treatment for one week.

5.?Crude fat content decreased significantly in breast meat in all treatment groups. In thigh meat, at d 29, a significant reduction in crude fat was observed only in birds receiving low chromium and high copper.

6.?Crude protein at d 29 increased significantly in breast meat of birds receiving low chromium and high copper, and low or high chromium, while it decreased significantly in treatment groups after withholding the treatment. In thigh meat, at d 29, it increased significantly in treatment groups but decreased significantly after withholding the treatment.

7.?It was concluded that chromium and copper, along with nicotinic acid, have modulating effects on broiler meat under tropical conditions.  相似文献

1. The effects of feeding diets containing 54 mg, 60 mg, 65 mg or 70 mg manganese/kg to Guinea fowls on fertility, hatchability and the occurrence of malformed embryos were studied.

2. Dietary manganese affected fertility slightly, but significantly affected hatchability and the occurrence of malformed embryos.

3. Hatchability was most significantly depressed at the lowest dietary concentration of manganese, which also caused a highly significant increase in the proportion of malformed embryos.

4. Although increasing manganese to more than 54 mg/kg improved hatchability and reduced embryonic malformations, the increase did not completely eliminate the latter condition.  相似文献

1. Diets containing 80, 100, 125, 150, 175 or 200 mg monensin/kg were fed to broiler chickens from 0 to 28 d in cages that prevented access to excreta.

2. Growth was depressed with 125 mg monensin or more/kg and food intake tended to decrease. Feathering was adversely affected with 175 mg or more/kg.

3. In a similar experiment, diets containing 8.8, 9.1, 9.4, 9.7 or 10.1 g total sulphur amino acids (SAA)/kg were supplemented with 125 or 80 mg monensin/kg and compared with a diet containing 8.8 g SAA and 33 mg robenidine/kg.

4. With 125 mg monensin/kg, body‐weight gain was significantly less than that of birds receiving robenidine if dietary SAA content was 9.4 g or less/kg. With 9.7 g SAA or more/kg, gain in birds receiving monensin was similar to that of birds receiving robenidine.

5. Monensin at 125 mg/kg therefore appears to increase the SAA requirement.  相似文献

1. Sulphamonomethoxine (SMM) or sulphadimethoxine (SDM) were fed to laying hens at a dietary concentration of 400 mg/kg. Concentrations (mg/kg) of SMM and SDM in the blood, kidney, liver, ovary, muscle and adipose tissue, collected at 4, 8, 16 and 24 h after the start of feeding, were determined by HPLC

2. The relationships between the sulphonamide concentrations (mg/kg) in the tissues and times (h) after the start of the feeding were analysed statistically.

3. Dietary SMM and SDM were transferred throughout the whole body, and concentrations in all tissues became constant 8 h after the start of feeding.

4. Among the 6 tissues examined the constant values (mg/kg) of both SMM and SDM were highest in the kidney and were lowest in adipose tissue.

5. With the exception of adipose tissue, the values of SDM in the tissues were statistically greater than those of SMM.  相似文献

1. The effects of dietary corticosterone and trilostane, an inhibitor of glucocorticoid synthesis, on: growth, rates of synthesis and breakdown of skeletal muscle protein, and content of abdominal fat were studied in broiler chickens.

2. Dietary corticosterone (5, 10 or 20 mg/kg) depressed body weight gain and increased abdominal fat content in a dose‐dependent manner while dietary trilostane (1.4 or 7.0 mg/kg) had no effect.

3. The rate of protein breakdown in skeletal muscle estimated from N‐methylhistidine excretion was increased in a dose‐dependent manner by dietary corticosterone but it was decreased by trilostane.

4. The rate of skeletal muscle protein synthesis was not affected by corticosterone although it was decreased by trilostane.

5. Plasma corticosterone concentration was increased in a dose‐dependent manner by dietary corticosterone and decreased by treatment with 7 mg trilostane/kg diet.

6. The results indicate that higher concentrations of plasma corticosterone increase protein breakdown in skeletal muscle but do not affect muscle protein synthesis while both the rates of synthesis and breakdown are decreased when plasma corticosterone concentration is reduced.  相似文献

The egg discolouration effects of including a screw‐press cottonseed meal (CSM), containing 68.2 g residual lipid/kg, 290 mg cyclopropenoid fatty acids (CPFA)/kg and 1226 mg free gossypol/kg, in laying hen diets at 300 g/kg were examined.

2. Discolouration prevention methods included treating the meal with ferrous sulphate heptahydrate (FSH), in solution or as crystals, at a 4:1 weight ratio of iron to free gossypol (experiment 1), and reducing its residual lipid (CSL) content to 4.2 g/kg by hexane extraction (experiment 2).

3. In freshly laid eggs, no discolouration was observed when hens were fed a CSM‐based diet containing 250 mg free gossypol/kg and 87 mg CPFA/kg in experiment 1, but slightly brown yolks were produced in experiment 2.

4. Storage of the eggs at 22°C led to yolk mottling, an effect believed to be the initial stages of the brown yolk discolouration.

5. Storage of the eggs at 5°C resulted in enhancement of the brown yolk discolouration, apricot discolouration on surfaces of most yolks and pink albumen discolouration. These effects were prevented when the CSM was extracted with hexane. Apricot yolk and pink albumen discolourations were also produced when hens were fed a non‐CSM diet containing crude CSL at 20.5 g/kg.

6. Dietary CSL increased egg fat saturation, altering the ratios of stearic to oleic, palmitic to palmitoleic and heptadecanoic to hepta‐decenoic fatty acids.

7. Treatment of CSM with FSH reduced the slight brown yolk discolouration in fresh eggs (experiment 2) and the yolk mottling in warm‐stored eggs. Both in solution and as crystals, FSH prevented the enhancement of brown yolk discolouration in cold‐stored eggs, leaving most eggs with apricot yolk and pink albumen discolourations.

8. Treatment of CSM and CSL with FSH reduced the CPFA‐related effects on yolk fat saturation, and the colour and pH changes in cold‐stored eggs.

9. Exposure of yolks to ammonia vapour provided a useful test to predict the development of the gossypol‐related brown discolouration in stored eggs.  相似文献

1. Chickens were given either a single dose of chloramphenicol (50 mg/kg body weight per os) or a dose of chloramphenicol together with pyridoxine (25 mg/kg per os) given 1 h before or 4 h afterwards.

2. Concentrations of chloramphenicol were determined in samples of serum and the rates of distribution and elimination extrapolated. Concentrations of chloramphenicol in muscle, liver and kidney were also determined.

3. Serum concentrations of chloramphenicol were lower in chickens given both pyridoxine and chloramphenicol compared with those given only chloramphenicol.

4. Differences were most pronounced during the post‐absorptive phase. The rates of disappearance of chloramphenicol residues from tissues were enhanced by pyridoxine.

5. The biological half life of chloramphenicol and area under the concentration‐time curve were both reduced by the concurrent administration of pyridoxine.

6. Availability of pyridoxine may be a rate limiting factor in the biotransformation of xenobiotics, though its indiscriminate use could cause failure of antibiotic therapy.  相似文献

1. The effect of probiotic supplementation on egg production, on serum and yolk cholesterol and on egg shell thickness in 24 White Leghorn layers was studied from 28–38 weeks of age.

2. In 3 treatments the diet was supplemented with 0, 100 and 150 mg probiotic/kg food.

3. In the 100 mg probiotic group, egg production improved by 5%, and shell thickness improved slightly, with fewer thin‐shelled eggs than in the control (8.6% compared to 18.6%).

4. The initial serum cholesterol concentration of 170.2 mg/dl in control birds remained similar throughout the 10‐week experimental period, whereas in the 150 mg group the initial value of 176.5 mg/dl decreased to 114.3 mg by week 10.

5. Yolk cholesterol concentration was 14.69 mg in the control group and 11.28 and 11.37 mg/g in the 100 and 150 mg probiotic groups respectively. Overall mean total egg cholesterol was thus reduced by probiotic supplementation.  相似文献

1. The economic effects of increased vitamin E supplementation in 168 commercial broiler flocks incorporating over 3 million birds was assessed using a computerised data retrieval system.

2. Approximately half of the flocks were fed on either a high (163 mg/kg) vitamin E or on a normal (44 mg/kg) vitamin E‐containing diet throughout production.

3. Approximately half of the flocks were the progeny of breeder flocks which had been fed on a high vitamin E‐containing diet throughout production.

4. The improvement in target income in the vitamin E‐supplemented broiler flocks was 8–44% (P < 0.01).

5. The residual improvement in target income in these flocks, after the cost of the additional vitamin E was taken into account, was 2.74% and failed to reach statistical significance.

6. The increased net income was achieved by a significantly improved food conversion ratio and average weight per bird (P < 0.05).

7. There was no overall effect of vitamin E supplementation of broiler breeders on subsequent broiler performance.  相似文献

1. The effects of high dietary concentrations of zinc oxide on chicks and hens were studied in four experiments.

2. Chicks given 2 000, 4 000 or 6 000 mg zinc/kg diet from 2 to 6 weeks of age grew poorly, many showing gizzard erosion and lesions of the exo‐crine pancreas. Dissecting aneurysms occurred in a few birds receiving 6 000 mg zinc/kg.

3. Pancreatic lesions were found in chicks maintained on 1 000, 2 000 or 4 000 mg zinc/kg from 0 to 4 weeks and the two higher concentrations reduced body weight and increased the incidence of gizzard erosion.

4. Histologically, gizzard lesions varied from excessive desquamation of epithelial cells, heterophils and erythrocytes into an abnormally spongi‐form koilin, to erosion of koilin, glands and pits. Pancreatic lesions could be detected only microscopically and consisted of dilation of the acinar lumina, cytoplasmic vacuolation, cytoplasmic globule formation and necrosis of the exocrine cells with interparenchymal fibrosis.

5. Similar lesions of the gizzard and pancreas were found in hens after they had received 10 000 or 20 000 mg zinc/kg diet for only 4 d.

6. Hens given 10 000 mg zinc/kg for 4 d followed by a normal zinc intake for 28 d had normal gizzards and pancreata.  相似文献

1. Blackening of the skin in factory processed cooked hens has been associated with elevated copper levels.

2. The degree of blackening was not directly related to copper content although the latter level was always higher than in control hens.

3. Simulated factory procedures, using scald water at 53 °C or 60 °C containing 50 mg Cu2+/1 and 50 mg C12/1, produced blackened skins of varying intensity on cooking.

4. It is suggested that the problem arose from a malfunction of the chlorination plant which produced excessive levels of chlorine and low pH, followed by erosion of copper from water pipes and subsequent interaction of copper and chlorine with the chicken skin.  相似文献

1. Excreta from broiler chickens, when sterilised at 121 °C for 20 min, released little ammonia gas after incubation at 33 °C for 24 h.

2. Addition of thiopeptin to fresh excreta decreased ammonia production after incubation. Caprylohydroxamic acid did not have such an effect.

3. Dietary additions (100 mg/kg) of thiopeptin or zinc bacitracin resulted in decreased ammonia gas production from incubated fresh excreta. Similar addition of caprylohydroxamic acid did not decrease ammonia production.

4. Dietary supplements of thiopeptin (2.5 mg/kg) or zinc bacitracin (20 mg/kg) resulted in somewhat decreased ammonia production from incubated fresh excreta.  相似文献

1.?This research was conducted to determine the impact of diet supplementation with yeast cell walls and Yucca schidigera extract on the growth performance, antibody titres, and intestinal tissue histology of layer chicks.

2.?White, 1-d-old, Hy-Line hybrid chicks (n?=?840) were divided into 4 main groups, each comprising 7 replicates of 30 chicks (n?=?210): (1) control; (2) 1000?mg/kg yeast cell walls (YCW) added; (3) 1000?mg/kg Yucca schidigera extract (YE) added; and (4) 500?mg/kg YE?+?500?mg/kg YCW added. The trial lasted 60?d.

3.?Daily weight gain of the chicks was positively affected between d 45-60 in the YE and YCW?+?YE groups compared with the control group.

4.?Overall, feed consumption did not differ between the control and YCW, YE, YCW?+?YE groups during the 60?d study period. Feed efficiency was better in the YE and YCW?+?YE groups than in the control group between d 1-60.

5.?During the 60?d evaluation period, live weight gain, and final live weight were higher in YE and YCW?+?YE groups than in the control group.

6.?Antibody titres against infectious bronchitis and infectious bursal disease did not differ among the 4 treatments, but those for Newcastle disease were higher in the YE?+?YCW groups than in the control, YCW and YE groups on d 45.

7.?There were differences in intestinal histomorphometry between the 4 treatments. The height of the jejunal and ileal villi was greater in the YE and YCW?+?YE groups than in the control and YCW groups

8.?It can be concluded that YCW and YE supplementation for layer chicks is beneficial for growth performance and intestinal histology during the 1-60?d growing period.  相似文献

1. Dietary folic acid requirements of broilers were studied in three experiments using wheat‐ and maize‐based practical diets. Requirements were assessed on the basis of performance and metabolic criteria.

2. Growth and food conversion efficiencies were optimised with supplements of 1.5 mg folic acid/kg added to basal mash starter diets. The dietary folic acid requirement of broilers was estimated to be in the range of 1.7 to 2.0 mg/kg.

3. Red blood cell phosphoribosylpyrophosphate concentrations and dihydrofolate reductase activites did not show consistent changes over the range of dietary folate concentrations studied but plasma folate concentrations responded markedly to dietary folate supplementation.

4. Adding choline to diets in amounts greater than the normal requirement did not spare the requirement for folic acid.

5. It is suggested that minimum folic acid supplements for pelleted practical diets should be in the order of 2.5 to 3 mg/kg.  相似文献
