Melampsorella caryophyllacearum is a heteroecious fungus that produces disease on silver fir resulting in galls that depreciate the value of trees. Currently,
little is known about its epidemiology. The purpose of this study was to identify those site or management factors associated
with fir broom rust infection. A 29-plot systematic sampling was carried out throughout all silver fir forests in the Spanish
Pyrenees. In every sampling plot, we examined each tree for the presence of M. caryophyllacearum galls or witch’s brooms. We differentiated their position as either on the main stem or on the branches of trees. We identified
the most susceptible stands by relating a compendium of tree and stand variables with the presence and severity of symptoms.
Disease symptoms were observed in 11.8% (95% CI: 5.8–17.9%) of trees. Fir broom rust-infected trees tended to be those of
larger diameters. The rust infection was observed in 55.2% (95% CI: 35.7–73.6%) of the stands. We identified a wide range
of severities with 5 of 29 stands having more than 30% of trees infected. Fir broom rust appeared to be a widespread disease,
although we observed important differences in terms of severity. The presence and severity of the rust in stands was associated
with understories composed of more shade tolerant plant species and with longer periods without thinnings. Canopy opening
should be experimentally tested as a possible control method. 相似文献

In order to develop a model for predicting the period of male flower anthesis in Cryptomeria japonica, it is requisite to clarify the rest break process in male flowers. In this study, the effect of alternating temperatures
in a daily cycle on rest break was investigated using twigs bearing male flowers from three clones of C. japonica. Four temperature treatments with the same daily mean of 8°C were applied to sample twigs over a period of 35 days: (1) 8°C
constant (TR-A); (2) 7°–10°C alternating (TR-B); (3) 5.5°–13°C alternating (TR-C); and (4) 4°–16°C alternating (TR-D). After
treatment, the sample twigs were forced to bloom at a constant temperature of 16°C, and the cumulative effective temperatures
(CETs) required for anthesis were compared. While the CETs for anthesis were the same for TR-A and TR-B, that for TR-C was
significantly higher. After TR-D, almost no male flower bloomed, indicating that this treatment was ineffective in breaking
rest. When considering these results on an hour basis, it was a reasonable interpretation that 13°C had no effect on breaking
rest while the temperatures below 10°C were all equally effective. On the other hand, temperatures of 16°C or above were considered
to have an antagonizing effect that cancels the effects of chilling temperatures below 10°C. These results suggest that the
effects of high temperatures during the daytime in chilling periods should be properly incorporated into a model of the process
by which rest of male flowers is broken. 相似文献

Muehlewbeckia complera was introduced to China in 2002 as indoor-hanging ornamental foliage plant. The experiment of the shade tolerance for this
species was carried out in different light intensities (0.14–946.00 μmol·m−2·s−1). After 40 days in experimental areas, leaf photosynthentic characteristics indexes ofM. complera in different photosynthesis active radiation (PAR) were measured with LI-COR6400 apparatus, such as the light compensation
point, light saturation point, and maximum net photosynthesis rate, at the same time, the increments of total leaf area and
leaf amount were measured. The results showed that the optimum light intensity range forM. complera was from 9.26 μmol·m−2·s−1 to 569.00 μmol·m−2·s−1 (463–28150 lx, relative humidity (RH) for 46–60%, temperature at 16–22°C). Under this condition, leaf photosynthetic efficiency
was tiptop. AlthoughM. complera belonged to the moderate sun-adaptation plant species, the plant growth was inhibited when PAR increased to the level of
569.000 μmol·m−2·s−1 or above.M. complera could sprout new leaves in photosynthesis active radiation of 0.16–19.22 μmol·m−2·s−1 (8–961 lx), or 10 μmol·m−2·s−1 for above 6 h.

The olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Gmelin.) (Diptera:Tephritidae) is a pest on olives (Olea europea) in the Mediterranean basin. An olive fruit fly colony was maintained on olives at 24 ± 1°C, 60% RH, and 16:8 h (light:dark)
photoperiod with fluorescent lighting. We investigated oviposition behavior, developmental duration and weights of the biological
stages, and adult longevity. A single female laid an average of 19 eggs/day and 200–350 eggs in her lifetime. The maximum
number of oviposition stings in a single olive was 156.0 ± 5.77, and 28.00 ± 3.62 larvae out of it completed their development,
all pupated, and all emergence successfully. Although the development period was similar for larvae and pupae, adult longevity
varied. Male and female emergence percentages ranged as 38.7–52.8, and 32–39.9%, respectively. The results are presented in
relation to published studies on olive fruit fly rearing. 相似文献

A study was conducted to investigate the effects of high temperature on variations of alkaloid metabolism in C. roseus seedlings in Key Laboratory of Forest Plant Ecology, Northeast Forestry University, Heilongiang, China. 60-day-old C. roseus seedlings with 3-4 pairs of leaves were incubated in chambers with temperature of 30℃ and 40℃for short-term heat shock experiment and 20℃, 25℃ and 35℃ for long-term experiment. The contents of vindoline, catharanthine, vinblastine and vincristine in C. roseus leaves and root were checked at different temperatures in short term (1-6 h) and long term (1-16 d). Results showed that under short-term heat shock, the contents of vindoline, catharanthine and vinblastine in leaves of the seedlings were higher at 40℃ than at 30℃, but after 6 h treatment, the contents of vindoline and catharanthine under the two temperatures came to the same level. Catharanthine was exclusively distributed in C. roseus roots and its content was increased by 40% after two hours incubation at 40℃, while increased slowly at 30℃ incubation and reached the highest value at 6 h. In the Long-term experiment, concentrations of monomeric alkaloids catharanthine and vindoline were higher at 20℃ than at 25℃ and had a sharp increase under the condition of 35℃. While for dimeric alkaloid, it showed that the higher the temperature, the earlier the peak value of vinblastine content appears. Vincristine had a continuous enhancement and attained 0.027 mg.g^-1 at 16th day under 35℃ condition which was higher than those in the other conditions. It was concluded that high temperature could promote the accumulation of different alkaloids in C. roseus and the accumulation characteristic is highly related to treatment time. 相似文献

Pear lace bug, Stephanitis pyri (F.) (Heteroptera: Tingidae) is a pest of apple and pear trees and ornamental Rosaceae plants in Mediterranean countries
and palearctic region. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of temperatures on S. pyri in the laboratory. Development and fecundity of S. pyri reared on apple leaves (Pyrus malus L.) were investigated at five constant temperatures (20, 23, 26, 29 and 32 ± 1°C) and a 16L:8D photoperiod. Longevity was
determined to be 12.6 days at 32°C and 58.7 days at 20°C for females, and 9.7 and 37.7 days for males. Females laid 186.9
eggs per female with the highest number achieved during 28.5 days of oviposition period at 26°C. Female lifetime fecundity
was reduced at 32°C (40.0 eggs per female). While the net reproductive rate (R
0) was highest at 26°C, the intrinsic rate of natural increase (r
m
) was highest at both 26 and 32°C. The mean generation time (G) was estimated to be 27.2–78.4 days at 20 and 32°C, respectively. The longest development times for egg and total nymph stages
were obtained as 22.0 and 24.9 days, respectively, at 20°C. S. pyri developed fastest from egg to egg in 24.3 days at 32°C. The lower developmental threshold (T
0) was 9.7°C and the thermal constant (K) was 517.3 degree-days for S. pyri. Thus, S. pyri is calculated to have 3.8 theoretical generations in Tekirdag. The optimum developmental temperature for S. pyri was 26°C. 相似文献

The functional response of two aphid parasitoids, Aphidius colemani Viereck and Aphidius matricariae (Haliday) (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae), on the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae), was examined. Five constant temperatures (10, 15, 20, 25, and 30°C) and six host densities (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64) were used during a 24-h period. At each temperature, 2–64 third-instar nymphs of A.
gossypii were exposed to individual wasp mating pairs. A type II functional response model for both parasitoid wasps was fit separately for each temperature. The results showed that instantaneous attack rate (a) in A.
colemani increased linearly as the temperature increases from 10 to 30°C, but in A.
matricariae, (a) increased almost linearly with temperature to reach a maximum at 25°C, and then decreased at 30°C, displaying an asymmetrical dome-shaped pattern. The highest instantaneous attack rate for A.
colemani and A.
matricariae were calculated 0.940 ± 0.144 day−1 at 30°C and 0.687 ± 0.157 day−1 at 25°C, respectively. Handling time (T
h) for A.
colemani was inversely proportional to temperature and ranged from 0.093 ± 0.026 day at 10°C to 0.032 ± 0.004 day at 30°C, but in A.
matricariae, (T
h) was between 0.078 ± 0.015 day at 10°C and 0.036 ± 0.014 day at 20°C. A.
colemani achieved higher parasitism rate than A. matricariae at higher temperatures. This observation suggests that A.
colemani maybe more effective for biological control of the cotton aphid during warmer periods. 相似文献

Cottonhead windhairdaisy (Saussurea laniceps Hand.-Mazz.) is one of the most famous and important medicinal herbs in China. Illegal collection from wild populations is increasingly threatening the present environment of S. laniceps. Establishment of an efficient method for micropropagation is the best way to change its endangered situation. When mature seeds of S. laniceps were cultured on hormone-free MS medium, plantlets were formed from germinated seeds in 7–10 d. Then 0.5 cm × 0.5 cm leaf explants were transplanted to MS medium supplemented with 1-naphthalene-acetic acid (NAA)/2,4-D and benzyladenine (BA)/KT and callus was achieved 10 d after transfer. Shoot bud regeneration occurred from callus cultured on MS medium supplemented with different growth regulators 20 d after culturing. The regeneration percentages varied with the different components of plant growth regulators. The percent regeneration from callus pretreated at low temperature of 5°C increased significantly compared with those incubated at 23/20°C directly. Optimal regeneration was observed with explants on media supplemented with 1.5 mg8226;L–1 BA plus 0.2 mg8226;L-1 NAA. In the presence of 0.2 mg8226;L–1 NAA in half-strength MS, 78% of the shoots formed roots. Plantlets from explants showed 63% survival after acclimatization. 相似文献

Germination traits of three Japanese Ulmus species, including two summer-fruiting species, U. davidiana var. japonica (UD) and U. laciniata (UL), and an autumn-fruiting species, U. parvifolia (UP), were investigated. Germination tests that controlled light (16 h dark–8 h light/24 h dark) and temperature (alternating
20–30°C/constant 23°C) conditions were conducted just after seed dissemination. Under the preferred (light and alternating
temperature) conditions, UD germinated quickly and percentage germination was high (99%), whereas UL and UP germinated moderately
to slowly (65.2 and 23.8%, respectively) and the remaining seeds were primarily dormant. When the seeds were exposed to unsuitable
conditions for germination, secondary dormancy was induced in all three Ulmus species. Because primary and secondary dormancy of these species was not strict, the existing dormancy could be released
by moist conditions and low temperature during the winter. Thus, all three Japanese Ulmus can germinate either just after seed dissemination or in the following spring. Nevertheless, the predominant germination
of summer-fruiting UD just after seed dissemination seems to be advantageous for finding safe sites that might become available
after a large-scale fluvial disturbance. Similarly, the delayed germination of autumn-fruiting UP until the following spring
seems to be advantageous for preventing germination at the end of the growing season. Summer-fruiting UL had a more negative
response to favorable light conditions just after seed dissemination, which seems to be advantageous for establishment in
canopy gaps. These germination traits seem to be adaptive responses to the dominant disturbance regimes of their natural habitats. 相似文献

On two silt loam flatwoods in Louisiana, use of mounds as planting sites for slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm. var. elliottii) was shown to be more effective than planting without mounds (untreated control) after six growing seasons in the field. Mounds formed were of two sizes: low mounds made of 550 dm3 of soil and high mounds made of 1,000 dm3 of soil. One site was in central Louisiana and had two drainage classes: a somewhat poorly drained Caddo-Messer complex and a poorly drained Caddo soil. On both drainage classes, pine survival was not affected by treatment, but the incidence of fusiform rust galls on the main stem (caused by Cronartium quercuum (Berk.) Miyabe ex Shirai f. sp. fusiforme Burdsall and Snow) was greater on trees planted on mounds. The second site was a poorly drained Caddo soil in southwestern Louisiana. At this site, there were fewer surviving pines on controls than on mounds, but the incidence of rust galls was not affected by treatment. At both sites, pines were taller and had a greater mean diameter at breast height on mounds than on controls. Mound size did not influence tree size at either site. 相似文献

Temperature effects on developmental period, survival rate, and reproductive capacity of Aphis rumicis L. were studied on Broadleaf dock and Swiss chard at four constant temperatures (17.5°C, 20°C, 22.5°C, and 25°C). The developmental
time of immature stages ranged from 10.9 days at 17.5°C to 6.5 days at 25°C on Broadleaf dock, and 11.8 days at 17.5°C to
6.5 days at 25°C on Swiss chard. The total percentage of survivorship of immature stages varied from 54.2% and 67.6% 17.5°C–25°C
on Broadleaf dock, and 49.7% and 62.4% at 17.5°C–25°C on Swiss chard. The largest r
m value occurred with 0.2845 at 25°C on Broadleaf dock and with 0.2785 at 25°C on Swiss chard. The results obtained on this
study indicated that Swiss chard was a less favorable host of the A. rumicis than Broadleaf dock. The optimal temperature for A. rumicis growth, developmental time, and reproduction was 22.5°C–25°C. 相似文献

The olive psyllid, Euphyllura phillyreae Foerster is one of the most destructive pests on buds and flowers of olive tree (Olea europaea L.) in May when the olive growers cannot apply any insecticides against the pest. Temperature-dependent development of the
psyllid was studied at constant temperatures ranged 16–26°C. A degree-day (DD) model was developed to predict the larval emergence
using the weekly cumulative larval counts and daily mean temperatures. Linear regression analysis estimated a lower developmental
threshold of 4.1 and 4.3°C and a thermal constant of 164.17 and 466.13 DD for development of egg and larva, respectively.
The cumulative larval counts of E. phillyreae approximated by probit transformation were plotted against time, expressed as the sum of DD above 4.3°C, the starting date
when the olive tree phenology was the period of flower cluster initiation. A linear model was used to describe the relationship
of DDs and probit values of larval emergence patterns of E. phillyreae and predicted that 10, 50 and 95% emergence of the larvae required 235.81, 360.22 and 519.93 DD, respectively, with errors
of 1–3 days compared to observed values. Based on biofix depends the development of olive tree phenology; the DD model can
be used as a forecasting method for proper timing of insecticide applications against E. phillyreae larvae in olive groves. 相似文献

Plodia interpunctella (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is recorded as a new factitious host for the solitary egg-larval parasitoid, Chelonus oculator Panzer (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). A short biology and rearing method of the parasitoid on the new host were studied at 30±1°C,
60–70% relative humidity, with a photoperiod of 16:8 (L: D). Chelonus eclosed from 74.60% of parasitized hosts. No significant difference was found between development times of male and female
parasitoids. Development of the parasitoid was completed in 28.14±0.47 days in male, and 28.87±0.58 days in female. However,
a significant difference was found between adult sizes of male and female parasitoids. Adult dry mass was found 0.88±0.04 mg
in male, and 1.99±0.11 mg in female. In addition, C. oculator was successfully reared from P. interpunctella in twenty generations with the explained method. Significant knowledge about biology of C. oculator is still lacking. However, the parasitoid can be candidate for future research as a biological control agent against some
important lepidopteran pests, and P. interpunctella may be suitable factitious host for mass rearing of C. oculator. 相似文献

Understanding the germination traits of plants is important not only for understanding natural regeneration processes but
also for developing seedling production techniques for planting. Sabina vulgaris Ant. is a common species used for reforestation in semi-arid areas of the Mu-Us Desert, in Inner Mongolia, China, but its
extremely low germination rate, both in situ and in vivo, is a bottleneck for seedling production. Sulfuric acid pretreatment
was applied to improve germination, and the germination rate was compared for different soaking time (10, 30, 60, 90, and
120 min), different temperatures (10, 15, 20, 30, and 35°C) and under different lighting conditions (dark and light). Sulfuric
acid treatment gave a high germination rate, reaching 60% at 30 days after sowing. However, the non-treated seeds produced
no germination. The optimal treatment time in sulfuric acid was 120 min. Germination after sulfuric acid treatment increased
at incubation temperatures from 10 to 30°C, but decreased at 35°C. Incubation at 25–30°C gave maximum germination of more
than 50%. Light treatment had little effect on germination. Pretreatment with sulfuric acid improved water absorption by the
embryo by creating cracks and cavities in the seed coat tissue. These results indicated that S. vulgaris seeds have physical dormancy caused by their hard seed coats, which prevents absorption of water into the embryo. A combination
of pretreatment with sulfuric acid and incubation at 25–30°C was most effective in improving the germination of S. vulgaris seeds. 相似文献

Laboratory experiments investigated the effect of host instar, light and food on the number of mature eggs in ovaries (egg
load) of the synovigenic parasitoid Venturia canescens (Grav.) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae). The wasps that developed from third or fifth instar larvae of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) were exposed to food (honey) or had no food, had access to water or not, and were reared
at the photoperiod 16:8 h light:dark or in continuous darkness at 25 ± 1°C, and 60–70% relative humidity. After death, the
parasitoids were dissected to remove the reproductive systems, and mature eggs in ovaries were counted. A three-way ANOVA
for egg number with host instar, food and light as factors revealed that egg load varied significantly. In addition, some
interactions among the three factors were also found to be significant. The maximum average number (215.80 ± 8.51) of mature
eggs was found when the parasitoids developed from third instar larvae, were exposed to continuous darkness and fed with honey.
In conclusion, host instar, food supplement and photoperiod could have potential for improving biological control efficacy
in stores. However, further studies determining the effect of these factors on egg laying behavior and fecundity should be
done. 相似文献

The germination of common alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn.) and downey birch (Betula pubescens Ehrh.) seeds is often poor in bare-root nurseries. The effect of a variety of seed coverings and a few seed pretreatments
on seedling emergence was examined in this study in an attempt to address this problem. Seeds of each species were sown in
trays containing nursery soil, covered with grit, gravel, sand, combinations of these coverings, a hydromulch or a sealed
plastic cloche and then incubated for 6 weeks at 17–20°C. The grit combined with sand or gravel, the hydromulch and the cloche
increased seedling emergence when compared with the standard grit. In another experiment, seeds of each species were fully
imbibed (FI) (>50% moisture content, MC), as per standard practice, or adjusted to target MC (TMC) (30–35% MC) levels, and
then chilled to release dormancy. Some seeds of each MC treatment were primed at 20°C for 2 days following chilling, after
which all seeds were evaluated in laboratory tests and a nursery trial. Germination potential of the FI seeds declined in
the lab tests by the second test date, which was reflected in low seedling emergence in the nursery in birch. The primed FI
seeds of alder germinated most rapidly in the nursery, but other effects were not significant. Seedling emergence was better
in the nursery in response to the TMC than the FI pretreatment in birch.

Variations of fine root diameter with root order in Manchurian ash and Dahurian larch plantations 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Fine root lifespan and turnover play an important role in carbon allocation and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. Fine
roots are typically defined as less than 1 or 2 mm in diameter. However, when categorizing roots by this diameter size, the
position of an individual root on the complex lateral branching pattern has often been ignored, and our knowledge about relationships
between branching order and root function thus remains limited. More recently, studies on root survivals found that longevity
was remarkably different in the same branching level due to diameter variations. The objectives of this study were: (1) To
examine variations of fine root diameter from the first-to fifth-orders in Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr and Larix gmelinii Rupr roots; and (2) To reveal how the season, soil nutrient, and water availability affect root diameter in different branch
order in two species. This study was conducted at Maoershan Forest Research Station (45°21′–45°25′N, 127°30′–127°34′E) owned
by Northeast Forestry University in Harbin, northeast China. Both F. mandshurica and L. gmelinii were planted in 1986. In each plantation, fine roots of two species by sampling up to five fine root branch orders three
times during the 2003 growing season from two soil depths (i.e., 0–10 and 10–20 cm) were obtained. The results showed that
average diameters of fine roots were significantly different among the five branch orders. The first-order had the thinner
roots and the fifth order had the thickest roots, the diameter increasing regularly with the ascending branch orders in both
species. If the diameter of fine roots was defined as being smaller than 0.5 mm, the first three orders of F. mandshurica roots and the first two orders of L. gmelinii roots would be included in the fine root population. The diameter ranges of the fine roots from first-order to fifth-order
were 0.15–0.58, 0.18–0.70, 0.26–1.05, 0.36–1.43, and 0.71–2.96 mm for F. mandshurica, and 0.17–0.76, 0.23–1.02, 0.26–1.10, 0.38–1.77, and 0.84–2.80 mm for L. gmelinii. The average coefficient of variation in first-order roots was less than 10%, second-and third-order was 10–20%, and fourth-and
fifth-order was 20–30%. Thus, variation in root diameter also increased with the ascending root order. These results suggest
that “fine roots”, which are traditionally defined as an arbitrary diameter class (i.e., <2 mm in diameter) may be too large
a size class when compared with the finest roots. The finest roots have much shorter lifespan than larger diameter roots;
however, the larger roots are still considered a component of the fine root system. Differences in the lifespan between root
diameter and root order affect estimates of root turnover. Therefore, based on this study, it has been concluded that both
diameter and branch order should be considered in the estimation of root lifespan and turnover.

Dynamic properties of bamboo, Phyllostachys pubescens, with moisture content (MC) ranging from −130 to 130°C, were studied by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The results showed
that the hygrothermal effect on dynamic mechanical properties was negative. The storage modulus decreases with increasing
temperature and MC, and glass transition temperature decreases with increasing MC. The glass transition temperature and tan
delta of bamboo were 30.5°C, 0.02 and 10.61°C, 0.04, when MC was 10% and 34%, respectively.
