A bilateral conjunctival neoplasm was surgically removed from a 13-year-old Domestic Short-haired female cat and examined by histopathology. The neoplasm was infiltrative, nonencapsulated and composed of large sheets of densely packed, round to polygonal cells. Neoplastic cells were variably sized with scant to modest amounts of cytoplasm and oval to round nuclei. On immunohistochemistry the neoplastic cells stained positively for BLA.36 and negative for CD-3 antibodies. On the basis of histopathology and immunohistochemical findings, a diagnosis of conjunctival B-cell lymphoma was made. This is the first case with immunohistochemical characterization of conjunctival lymphoma in a cat. 相似文献

An 8-year-old, spayed female, domestic shorthair cat with a history of hyperthyroidism, anorexia, dehydration, cervical ventroflexion, and behavioral changes was referred to the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The cat was obtunded, with severe dehydration (15%) and hypothermia (86 degrees F), and severe muscle atrophy and fasciculations. Serum biochemical abnormalities included severe hypernatremia (195 mmol/L, reference interval 155-165 mmol/L), hyperchloridemia (161 mmol/L, reference interval 123-131 mmol/L), and hypokalemia (3.6 mmol/L, reference interval 4.0-5.7 mmol/L). Calculated osmolality was 418 mOsm/kg (reference interval 280-305 mOsm/kg), attributable to the hypernatremia. The cat was kept warm and given fluid and glucocorticoid therapy and supportive measures but remained unresponsive. Hypernatremia and hyperosmolality improved through day 3, when the cat died suddenly. At necropsy, a 1.25-cm mass was found in the area of the thalamus and interthalamic adhesion that extended to the ventral aspect of the cerebrum. The histologic and immunohistochemical diagnosis was B-cell lymphoma. Hypernatremia and hyperosmolality in this cat were attributed to primary adipsia and hypothalamic dysfunction secondary to effacement of central nervous system tissue by neoplastic lymphocytes. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of central nervous system lymphoma, confirmed by use of immunohistochemical analysis as a B-cell phenotype, associated with hypernatremia. It also is the first reported case of lymphoma in animals limited to the thalamus, hypothalamus, and cerebrum, with no involvement of the spinal cord. 相似文献

A B-cell, Burkitt-type lymphoma, diffusely affecting the peripheral nerves and intramuscular nerve branches was diagnosed in a 4-year-old domestic shorthair cat with a chronic progressive history of flaccid tetraparesis and generalized muscle atrophy. There was no evidence of cranial nerve, central nervous system, radicular, bone marrow, splenic, or lymph node involvement. The cat tested negative for feline retroviruses and a wide variety of herpes viruses, including Epstein-Barr virus. The clinical manifestation of this case was similar to the chronic polyneuropathic variant of human diffuse neurolymphomatosis; a condition most commonly caused by an axonopathy resulting from infiltration of peripheral nerves with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. 相似文献

There is significant lack of basic hematologic and immunological data in adult sows. Therefore, aim of this study was to provide respective reference intervals. 32 clinically healthy multiparous Large White sows aged 33.5 ± 9.6 months and all of them two months postpartum were included in this study. Mean erythrocyte count was 5.5 ± 0.7 × 10(6)/μl and total leukocyte count was 12.1 ± 2.1 × 10(3)/μl. Proportion of lymphocytes was 44.7 ± 10.2% and of neutrophils 41.6 ± 11.0%. The ratio of na?ve T helper (Th) cells to memory Th cells was 1:3.1 and the ratio of Th cells to cytotoxic T cells (CTLs) was 1:4.2. Proportions of regulatory T cells, NK cells, and CD21(+) B cells were lower (3.1, 2.6, and 6.0%) than those of memory Th cells ranging from 8.8 to 27.5% depending on the activation status and CTLs with 37.3%. γδ T cells were found at comparably high numbers (19.1%). Flow cytometric measurement of intracellular cytokines in PBMCs revealed marginal levels for IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-12p35, but remarkable levels for TNF-α and IFN-γ. Highest mRNA levels were found for IL-1, IL-10, and TNF-α, with TNF-α showing the least inter-individual variation. 相似文献

In two guinea pigs (five years old, neutered male, and two and a half months old male, respectively) suffering from interstitial pneumonia, multinucleated giant cells were observed histologically in lungs, spleen and liver. The giant cells showed intranuclear, pale basophilic inclusions. Adenovirus could be demonstrated by electron microscopy. The multinucleated cells are supposed to be of histiocytic origin, since they contained variable amounts of haemosiderin in their cytoplasm. Formation of histiocyte-derived syncytia as a result of virus-induced cell fusion is discussed. 相似文献

Lymphoma in the left femoral nerve of a 10-year-old English Cocker Spaniel caused complete paralysis of the affected limb. Neoplastic cells were immunopositive for CD79a and Pax5 and negative for CD3. Neoplastic cells were in multiple lymph nodes and one kidney but spared bone marrow. The clinical and histologic features in this case resemble those of the rare human condition of neurolymphomatosis. 相似文献

The generation of multinucleated giant cells (MGC) from cells of the bovine monocyte-macrophage lineage was investigated. Freshly isolated monocytes were incubated with the conditioned medium (CM) of peripheral blood mononuclear cell cultures treated with Concanavalin A for 1-4 days (CM1 to CM4). Only CM1 generated MGC despite similar concentrations of IFNgamma in all CMs. Nevertheless, MGC formation from monocytes was enhanced by adding either macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) or granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), MGC formations from macrophages were observed only when macrophages were cultured with GM-CSF plus CM. These results indicate that several mechanisms to generate MGC from bovine monocytes-macrophage lineage cells exist, and that GM-CSF is a major mediator of MGC formation in cattle. 相似文献

Chlorambucil is an alkylating agent commonly used in veterinary oncology for conditions including lymphoma. Chlorambucil neurotoxicity has been well recognized in human patients. Onsets of central nervous system signs, such as myoclonus, tremors, muscular twitching, agitation, and tonic-clonic seizures, have been reported in humans and laboratory animals treated with chlorambucil. This case of a cat with intestinal lymphoma represents the first veterinary patient reported to have chlorambucil-induced neurotoxicity. Neurotoxicity should be considered a potential side effect of chlorambucil therapy in veterinary patients. 相似文献

An 11-year-old Shetland Sheepdog was presented for exophthalmos caused by a locally extensive, poorly defined mass located behind the right eye. The primary orbital mass was identified by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry as a T-cell rich B-cell lymphoma (TCRBCL) composed predominantly of BLA.36-positive large neoplastic lymphoid cells admixed with fewer CD3- and CD79a-positive small lymphocytes. The dog was treated for lymphoma, but 6 months after presentation it was euthanatized for suspected hepatic and gastrointestinal metastasis. Gross findings revealed an enlarged liver with multiple well-demarcated, randomly distributed 0.1-1.5-cm white nodules, five firm white submucosal jejunal nodules, and ileocecal, mediastinal, and hilar lymphadenopathy. Metastatic liver lesions consisted of sheets of monomorphic large neoplastic lymphoid cells that effaced and expanded portal and centrilobular zones. These cells were morphologically similar to the large neoplastic cells of the original orbital tumor and were CD3-negative and variably BLA.36-positive, consistent with B-cell lineage. Similar cells comprised the jejunal nodules and effaced the lymph nodes. The progression of TCRBCL to a diffuse B-cell lymphoma in this case is consistent with reported human cases and has not been previously reported in the dog. 相似文献

A gingival mass excised from a cat was determined to be a peripheral giant cell granuloma. Characteristic histologic features were large numbers of multinucleated giant cells intermixed with mononuclear mesenchymal cells in a loose fibrovascular stroma. The lesion recurred twice, indicating that these non-neoplastic growths may be locally invasive. 相似文献

An 11-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat was presented with an epulis. A hemispherical mass, 8mm in maximum diameter, without a peduncle and bright reddish in colour, was observed on the gingiva of the left mandible. Radiography failed to show any infiltrating osteolysis. The epulis was surgically removed via gingival incision around the margin to the depth of connective tissue layer. Histopathological examination indicated that the epulis contained a large number of multinucleated giant cells (MGCs) intermixed with mononuclear mesenchymal cells in a loose fibrovascular stroma. Mitotic cells were found, mainly in the centre of the mass. MGCs were stained positive by the tartrase resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining, indicating osteoclasts activity. Immunohistochemical staining for proliferating-cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) was observed within the majority of mononucleated cells, whereas multinucleated cells did not stain. An osteoclast-like giant cell tumour was concluded in this case. The origin of epulis is likely from the periosteal tissue. The cat recovered uneventfully and no recurrence has been noted for 3 years thereafter. 相似文献

A lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma was diagnosed in a 12- year-old domestic cat that had a primary cutaneous mass involving the stomach, liver, kidneys, heart, abdominal wall, diaphragm, bone marrow and several lymph nodes. Histopathologically, the most characteristic feature of this tumor was the heterogeneity of cell components, such as small lymphocytes, well-differentiated plasma cells and plasmacytoid transformed lymphocytes. Amyloid was deposited in the skin, stomach, and several lymph nodes. Immunohistochemically, neoplastic small lymphocytes were positive for CD20, and well-differentiated plasma cells and plasmacytoid transformed lymphocytes were positive for λ-Ig light chains and MUM1/IRF-4. These results emphasize the importance of lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma as a differential diagnosis of extramedullary cutaneous plasmacytoma in cats. 相似文献

Cutaneous malignant lymphomas are rare in horses and comprise predominantly T-cell-rich B-cell lymphomas. They are characterized by multiple tumour nodules affecting predominantly female horses with a survival rate of months to years. At the final stage, metastases to regional lymph nodes occur, whereas widespread organ involvement is rarely reported. In this case report, a cutaneous T-cell-rich B-cell lymphoma in a 7-year-old standardbred gelding with metastases is described. Clinically, multiple cutaneous and subcutaneous nodules, enlarged superficial lymph nodes, rapid weight loss, and ventral oedema were observed. In addition to the clinical findings, necropsy revealed tumour infiltration in multiple body lymph nodes, a solitary pleural mass, and few pulmonary and intestinal tumour nodules. Microscopically, all neoplasms were composed of a densely packed cell population consisting of large lymphoblastic cells expressing CD79a, and numerous small, round, CD3-positive T lymphocytes. With respect to these findings the diagnosis of a cutaneous T-cell-rich B-cell lymphoma with metastases was made. 相似文献

A seven‐year‐old domestic shorthair cat, adopted 5 years previously with a corneal perforation of the left eye, was presented for investigation of a left orbital mass. Computed tomography revealed a metallic foreign body within a contrast‐enhancing, heterogeneous orbital mass. Large cell lymphoma was diagnosed from a fine needle aspirate. The cat staged negatively and was treated with l‐asparaginase, prednisolone and three fractions of radiation therapy. A rapid clinical remission was obtained and the cat remained in remission for 3 years after therapy. This is the first report of large cell lymphoma likely occurring secondary to a foreign body. 相似文献

A 6-year-old spayed female Domestic Shorthair cat presented with a 1 to 2-month history of blindness and altered behavior. At necropsy, a 1-cm-diameter, firm white mass was found arising from the subependymal region of the right lateral ventricular wall that protruded into and partially filled the lumen. Histologically, there was a well-demarcated, expansile paraventricular neoplasm composed of moderately pleomorphic cells within a richly fibrillar matrix arranged in interlacing streams and perivascular pseudorosette-like patterns. Neoplastic cells varied in morphology from small spindloid cells to larger polygonal cells with eccentric vesicular nuclei to neuronlike cells with vesicular nuclei and prominent nucleoli. The mitotic index was low. Immunohistochemically, neoplastic cells were positive for S-100 protein, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and neuron-specific enolase and negative for neurofilament protein. Ultrastructurally, the cells contained few to abundant bundles of intermediate filaments with variable numbers of mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and ribosomes. These features are characteristic of subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA) in humans. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of SEGA in domestic animals. 相似文献

A 6-month-old female neutered domestic shorthair cat was examined for pain and swelling of the distal limbs. Swelling and malalignment of both carpi, dorsiflexion of the distal metatarsals and a mild, multicentric lymphadenopathy were detected on examination. Screening blood tests revealed a biclonal gammopathy, hypercalcemia and atypical leukocytes. Survey radiographs revealed lysis and proliferative changes within the physes. Multiple pathological physeal fractures were present, including the distal radii, metacarpal and metatarsal bones. No treatment was attempted and the patient was euthanased. Histopathology revealed infiltration by monomorphic round cells within the liver, spleen, kidney and bone marrow. Immunohistochemistry revealed strong reactivity to CD20. Clonality assays revealed clonal results for the B-cell loci, consistent with B-cell lymphoma. To the authors' knowledge this is the first report of polyostotic lymphoma with multiple pathological fractures in a cat. The predominantly distal distribution of osseous lesions is rarely reported in dogs and humans. 相似文献

A 13-year-old female spayed domestic shorthair cat presented for investigation of decreased appetite and increased serum liver enzyme concentrations. An abdominal ultrasound revealed multiple sessile hyperechoic structures along the luminal aspect of the gall bladder wall and a mildly enlarged liver with hyperechoic nodules. Cholecystectomy was performed and biopsies were obtained by laparotomy. Histopathologic examination with immunohistochemistry was consistent with a diagnosis of small-cell lymphoma of T cells within the gall bladder, liver and small intestine. Clonality testing confirmed the diagnosis. The cat remains clinically stable 23 months after institution of treatment with prednisolone, chlorambucil and ursodeoxycholic acid. This is the first report of small-cell lymphoma in the gall bladder of a cat. 相似文献

A 13-year-old male neutered domestic shorthair cat presented with an acute onset of dyspnoea. Thoracic radiographs revealed marked, bilateral, caudal lung lobe consolidation. A diagnosis of anatomically mixed T-cell lymphoma with pulmonary, renal and alimentary involvement was confirmed on histopathology. Pulmonary involvement in cases of feline lymphoma is uncommon and the radiographic appearance of pulmonary lymphoma is highly variable. Lung lobe consolidation has been described with primary lung tumours in cats, but not previously in association with pulmonary lymphoma. This unusual presentation serves to alert practitioners to the possibility of lymphoma as a cause of severe bronchopulmonary disease in the cat. 相似文献
