The morphological features of the testicular artery and the pampiniform plexus in the boar spermatic cord were evaluated by light microscopy, corrosion cast technique combined with scanning electron microscopy and by transmission electron microscopy. The testicular veins could be subdivided into 4 types according to their perivascular elements and their location to the testicular artery. Type I vein consisted of large veins and gave rise to type II and III veins. Type II vein was composed of a single layer of veins and ran along the testicular artery, while type III vein consisted of several layers of veins and was located between type II veins. Type IV vein, which was regarded as a venous portal system, was composed of small muscular and pericytic venules and was located in the tunica adventitia of type II vein and the testicular artery. Occasionally, type IV vein penetrated deep into the tunica media of the testicular artery, accompanied by a fenestrated endothelium in its thin portion. The direct arterio-venous anastomosis between the pampiniform plexus and the testicular artery was not found. Type IV vein was considered to be the most important vessel in reducing the capacity of the barrier between the testicular artery and the veins (type II and III). It is, therefore, suggested that type IV venous network may play a role in transferring the substances between the artery and the veins.  相似文献

The post‐hatch development of immunoreactivity to desmin, smooth muscle actin (SMA) and vimentin in the testicular capsule and interstitial tissue of day‐old to adult quails was described in this study. The tunica albuginea of the testicular capsule was composed mainly of myoid cells. A zonal arrangement of desmin and SMA immunostaining was observed in myoid cells of the tunica albuginea in 1‐ to 24‐day‐old quails. Immunostaining for SMA and desmin was uniform in the tunica albuginea of adult birds. Vimentin immunostaining in the testicular capsule was demonstrated in mesothelial cells, endothelial cells and fibroblasts. The interstitial tissue contained mesenchymal cells, peritubular myoid cells, Leydig cells and fibroblasts. Desmin‐immunopositive mesenchymal cells were present in the interstitial tissue of 1‐ to 17‐day‐old quails. Peritubular myoid cells expressed strong desmin immunostaining in all developmental stages, while the intensity of SMA immunostaining increased with testicular maturation. Vimentin was demonstrated in Leydig cells and fibroblasts, while the peritubular myoid cells displayed strong vimentin immunostaining only in adult birds. Strong vimentin immunostaining was demonstrated in the endothelial cells of capsular and interstitial blood vessels. The tunica media of these blood vessels displayed desmin and SMA immunostaining. The results of the study have established that variability exists in the distribution and intensity of desmin, SMA and vimentin immunostaining in the testicular capsule and interstitial tissue of the post‐hatch Japanese quail.  相似文献

The external shape of the liver is varied and determines specific vascular arrangements. This morphological relationship is important to establish hepatic segmentation in different species submitted to surgeries that aim to preserve a larger area of liver parenchyma. After observing 60 livers injected with Neoprene Latex and three plastic moulds obtained by corrosion, eight hepatic venous segments were identified, drained by six hepatic veins agrouped into segmental veins, which drained one sector (segments I, VI, VII and VIII) and intersegmental veins, which drained more than one sector (segments II/III and IV/V). They were described as follows: left intersegmental vein, formed by a segmental vein from the papillary process (segment I), two to three lateral left segmental veins that drained the segment II, and one to five left paramedian segmental veins that drained the segment III; sagittal intersegmental vein, formed by the confluence between segmental vein of the quadrate lobe (segment IV) and the medial right paramedian segmental vein, which derived from the segment V; lateral right paramedian vein drained the dorsocranial sector of the segment VI; the lateral right segmental vein, formed by one to four vessels that drained segment VII, and the segmental vein of the caudate process, which drained the segment VIII. Understanding the number and disposition of the hepatic veins in lobate livers is essential to reduce bleeding risks in surgeries. The nomenclature based on segmentation analogy of non-lobate liver could be less confusing and, therefore, be more useful in the surgical approaches of lobate livers.  相似文献

The Vascular Architecture of the Porcine Small Intestine   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0       下载免费PDF全文
The vascular anatomy of the porcine small intestine was studied by injection of intestinal vessels with India Ink. Examination of transverse and longitudinal serial sections of the injected intestine facilitated a three-dimensional interpretation of the vascular pattern. An artery from the mesentery penetrated the tunica muscularis, supplied muscular branches and passed on to the submucosa where it formed an arterial rete. From the submucosal arteries, arterioles arose and followed a direct axial course to the tips of villi where they ramified into a subepithelial capillary plexus. Some of the capillaries, at the midpoint of the villus, fused into paraxial venules, which emptied into a “transverse venule” at the base of the villus. Other villus capillaries were continuous with those of the crypts. The pericryptal capillary plexus received a few arterial branches from the submucosal arteries. The transverse venule and the pericryptal capillary plexus emptied into large, segmentally dilated veins in the submucosa. The submucosal veins formed an extensive anastomosing network drained by large venous trunks which passed through the muscle layers to the mesentery.

The observations suggest possible relationships between the vascular pattern and intestinal fluid movement.

The metacrylate and latex corrosion techniques were used to establish that the vascular system of testes is based on one coherent principle in common domestic mammals. The cone-shaped Plexus pampiniformis consists of numerous venous rami, between 0.25 mm and 1.0 mm in thickness and forming a dense vascular network, which practically encase the spiral-shaped A. spermatica interna (cooling coil principle). The testicular veins and arteries in the Tunica albuginea constitute a somewhat voluminous layer of vessels for dissipation of heat, with rami branching off radially into the testicular parenchyma. Most of the artieral rami with radial penetration of the testicular parenchyma turn towards the surface in the mediastinum testis for three-shape ramification. The vascular rami are characterised by countless meanders, primarily for temperature control, pulse flattening for more regular and even blood flow, and blood reflex pumping.  相似文献

The innervation of porcine testes was studied in intact animals and in boars undergoing active immunization against gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) by means of immunohistochemistry using antibodies to tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine beta-hydroxylase (D beta H), vasoactive intestinal polypolypeptide (VIP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), synaptosome-associated protein of 25 kDa (SNAP-25) and protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5). Moreover, the distribution of luteinizing hormone (LH) receptors in clusters of Leydig cells was also investigated. To identify these cells easily, either the NADPH-diaphorase histochemical technique or the Mayer counter-staining procedure was applied. Differences in the distribution pattern and relative density of particular subsets of intratesticular nerve fibres were observed in immunized boars as compared to those found in the intact animals. In the testes of non-treated animals, only single TH-immunoreactive (TH-IR) nerve fibres were observed. However, many D beta H-IR nerve terminals surrounded blood vessels in the tunica albuginea and parenchyma. Very scarce VIP-IR nerves occurred only in the tunica albuginea, mainly in close vicinity to blood vessels. Immunoreactivity to NPY occurred in single nerve fibres. Immunoreactivity to SNAP-25 and PGP 9.5 was found in single nerve fibres distributed mainly in the tunica albuginea. The interstitial cells were heavily stained for LH-receptors and NADPH-diaphorase. In the testes of immunized animals, only single TH-IR nerve fibres, scattered mainly in the tunica albuginea, were observed. Some TH-IR nerve terminals were also encountered in the parenchyma of the organ, where they were always associated with blood vessels. D beta H-IR nerve fibres formed a dense network distributed throughout the testis in association with the capsule, vasculature and interstitium. Some fibres were observed to run between seminiferous tubules. VIP-IR nerve fibres were located in the neighbourhood of blood vessels in the tunica albuginea and parenchyma. Only single VIP-IR nerves were found between seminiferous tubules. Numerous NPY-IR nerve fibres occurred in the tunica albuginea and parenchyma of the organ. SNAP-25-IR and PGP 9.5-IR nerve terminals formed a dense network distributed throughout the testis and many fibres were observed between seminiferous tubules. Interstitial cells were very weakly stained for LH receptors or NADPH-diaphorase.  相似文献

Systemic venous drainage of the cervical portion of the trachea from the cricoid cartilage to the sternal notch was observed in 50 adult sheep. In all animals, the first five to six tracheal rings starting at the cricoid cartilage were drained by the thyroid veins (v. thyroideae) bilaterally to the external jugular veins (v. jugularis externa). A venous complex draining the remaining cervical portion of the trachea was observed only on the left side of the trachea. This complex drained to the cranial vena cava (vena cava cranialis). India ink or Evans blue dye were infused into small vessels draining this area for verification. Variations in this venous complex were classified into three types based upon length of trachea drained. Type I was found in 26%, type II found in 58%, and type III found in 16% of the sheep studied and drained 23 +/- 5%, 58 +/- 11% and 78 +/- 10% of the cervical portion of the trachea, respectively. Blood flow from this area of the trachea was 85 +/- 28 mL/min/100 g wet issue. This study identified and classified the venous drainage of the cervical portion of the trachea in sheep.  相似文献

The Vascular System in the Large Intestine of Dog (Canis lupus f. familiaris) The vascular System of the large intestine of 10 dogs was examined by means of vascular corrosion casts, histology and transmission-electron microscopy. The tela submucosa contains an arterial and a venous vascular plexus. In broader areas of the submucosa, a deep and a superficial vascular plexus, which are interconnected, can be found. The plexus are orientated parallel to the layers of the intestinal wall. On the one hand, these vessels naturally provide self-sufficiency and drainage of the submucosa, and, moreover, direct branches to the stratum circulare of the muscular layer. On the other hand, the submucosal vascular plexus is the ‘distributional network’ for the functional plexus of the tunica mucosa. The arteries, which ascend to the tunica mucosa, supply a flat arterial network underneath the intestinal glands. Bundles of only a few arteriolae originate from this in order to supply the pericryptal capillaries. In the vicinity of the cryptai orifices, these turn into a network of subepithelial capillaries, which is post-connected to the periglandular capillary plexus. From this ‘terminal circulatory pathway’, the blood is drained off by veins that enter the submucosal plexus. It is characteristic that the postcapillary venules often begin as part of the capillary network. As in other species, the subepithelial capillaries are predominantly lined with a ‘fenestrated endothelium’, whereas the capillaries of the pericryptal areas show a continuous endothelium. The latter contains multiple vesicles that may fuse in order to form transcytoplasmic channels as a morphological equivalent for transcappillar-epithelial and vice versa occurring transport of substances.  相似文献

The circulatory system of the large intestine of 27 pigs was examined by means of corrosion anatomy (vascular casts), histology and electron microscopy. The results were as follows: The Aa. et Vv. breves et longae leave the mesenteric vessels and reach the wall of the intestine at the mesenteric margin. The short vessels enter the deeper layers of the wall, whereas the Aa. et Vv. longae, by taking a variable subserous course, reach the submucosa af ter penetrating the muscular layers. The tela submucosa contains an arterial and a venous vascular plexus. Where the submucosa is larger, there is a three-dimensional vascular network, a deep and superficial vascular plexus that are closely interconnected. The deep plexus is applied to the inner circular muscles, whereas the superficial plexus is adjacent to the muscularis mucosae. The deep arterial plexus receives its af flux from the Aa. breves et longae and provides part of the circular muscle layers with recurrent muscle branches. The vascularization of the mucosa is derived from the (superficial) submucosal plexus. The arteries that ascend the tunica mucosa ramify, in the form of a brush, into some arterioles. In the basal part of the mucosa, they turn into a periglandular capillary system, i.e. a network around each Lieberkühn crypt. Close to the lumen, a polygonal subepithelial capillary system is formed. Below the epithelium of the mucosal surf ace, the capillaries turn into postcapillary venules. These are running vertically through the submucosa, with few infiowing side branches, and finally enter the submucosal plexus. An intermuscular plexus is formed by anastomoses between the circular and the longitudinal muscular layers from the branches of the subserous-submucosal connections. This intermuscular plexus provides the capillaries for the tunica muscularis. The subepithelial capillaries are, above all, furnished with a so-called fenestrated endothelium, whereas the capillaries of the pericryptal mucosa mainly show a continuous endothelium. The latter contains multiple vesicles that can fuse to form transcytoplasmic channels. In the wall of the large intestine of the pig, there are no sure indications as to the existence of either arterio-venous anastomoses or haemodynamic regulatory structures.  相似文献

(1) Immunohistochemical methods and three antibodies (against actin, desmin and smooth muscle actin) were used to demonstrate the myoid cells in the domestic fowl testis and its excurrent ducts. (2) A positive reaction to actin, smooth muscle actin and desmin was found in the myoid cells of peritubular tissue of the testis and in rete testis, ductuli efferentes and ductus epididymidis. (3) In the testis myoid-reactive cells form a single layer. In the rete testis, ductuli efferentes and the ductus epididymidis reactive myoid cells form a main component of the stroma. (4) Positive reaction to actin, smooth muscle actin and desmin was also observed in the myoid cells of the tunica albuginea and in the wall of blood vessels in the testis and epididymis, indicating a contractile function for the testicular capsule.  相似文献

Lymph system and lymphatic drainage in the testis of the Peking drake ( Anas platyrhynchos , L.)
After perfusion fixation the lymph vascular system can be distinguished sharply from the blood vascular system because the formation of lymph proteins is a reliable distinguishing criterion. Prelymphatic spaces without endothelial lining among seminiferous tubules partially communicate with lymph capillaries that are continuous with lymph sinusoids. Lymphatic vessels whose walls as yet contain no muscle are already present between the seminiferous tubules. The lymph then flows to the tunica albuginea in which it was possible to demonstrate, by injection of Prussian Blue, an narrow-mesh lymphatic network. Collecting vessels converge on the hilus and carry the lymph to the thoracoabdominal trunk. Right and left trunks, singly or after joining, enter the blood vascular system close to the left angle of veins.  相似文献

The vascular system of the large intestine of 12 horses was examined by means of vascular corrosion casts, histology and transmission electron microscopy providing the following results. The Aa. et Vv. breves et longae leave the mesenteric vessels, respectively the subserously on the teniae lying cecal vessels to reach the tela subserosa at the mesenteric margin. The short vessels enter the deeper layers of the wall instantly, whereas the Aa. et Vv. longae move towards the submucosa by penetrating the muscular layers after a variable subserous course. The tela submucosa contains an arterial and a venous vascular plexus. In broader areas of the submucosa a three-dimensional vascular network can be found. This consists of a deep and a superficial vascular plexus, which are closely interconnected. The deep plexus is applied to the inner circular muscles, whereas the superficial plexus is adjacent to the muscularis mucosae. The (deep) arterial plexus receives its afflux from the Aa. breves et longae and supplies parts of the circular muscle layer with recurrent muscle branches. The vascularisation of the mucosa also originates from the submucosal (superficial) plexus. In the basal tunica mucosa, the ascending arteries form a transversal network from which arterioles branch into periglandular capillaries around each Lieberkühn crypt. Close to the lumen, a polygonal subepithelial capillary system is formed. The capillaries turn into postcapillary venules immediately below the epithelium of the mucosal surface. Veins move vertically through the submucosa to enter the submucosal plexus after few inflowing side branches. Branches of the subserous-submucosal connections form an intermuscular plexus between the circular and longitudinal muscular layer. This plexus supplies the capillaries of the tunica muscularis. The subepithelial capillaries are predominantly lined with a fenestrated endothelium, whereas the capillaries of the pericryptal mucosa mainly show a continuous endothelial lining. The latter contain multiple vesicles, which may fuse in order to form transcytoplasmic channels. Sphincter-like muscle bundles at the transition points from capillaries to venules may provide hemodynamic regulatory structures in the submucosa of the horse. Veins with circumferential cushions of smooth muscle fibres, so-called ‘throttle veins’, are also found.  相似文献

The microcirculation of the dermal laminae and papillae of the equine foot from seven clinically normal Australian ponies was studied using an improved microvascular casting corrosion technique and scanning electron microscopy. Casts of veins, arteries, capillaries and arteriovenous anastomoses (AVAs) were readily identified by their characteristic surface morphology. Arteries entered the laminar circulation axially, between pairs of axial veins, and were connected to each other by smaller calibre interconnecting arteries. Short abaxial branches of the axial interconnecting arteries gave rise to tufts of predominantly, proximodistally orientated, capillaries arranged abaxially in rows. The laminar veins anastomosed with each other extensively (the axial venous plexus) and formed most of the vascular skeleton of casts of the dermal laminae. AVAs were found throughout the laminar circulation but the largest and longest (40 mu diameter) were found clustered close to the origin of the axial arteries. The density of the laminar AVAs was estimated to be 500 AVAs/cm2. Blood vessels of the dermal papillae of the periople, coronary band, distal laminae, sole and frog shared a basic structural organisation. The cast of each papillary unit consisted of a central artery and vein enmeshed in a sheath of fine capillaries. At intervals along the length of the central artery were short branches which gave rise to tufts of capillaries. The capillaries formed a tortuous anastomosing plexus which encircled the papillary unit and drained into the central vein at intervals along its length. AVAs were always present at the base of the papillary units and anastomoses connected the central artery and vein. AVAs are important components of the dermal microcirculation of the equine foot and their distribution and density is compatible with their proposed role in the pathophysiology of equine laminitis.  相似文献

Microvascular circulation of the small intestine in horses.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The microvascular anatomic features of the small intestine was described by correlating results of microangiography, light microscopy, gross studies, and scanning electron microscopy of vascular replicas in 14 horses. After heparinization, the horses were euthanatized, a length of jejunum was transected, and blood was flushed free of the circulation, using isotonic NaCl solution. In six horses, the circulatory system was perfused with a modified radiopaque medium and evaluated radiographically. These sections were then evaluated by standard histologic methods. Sections from 8 horses were perfused with 1 of 2 types of plastics and studied grossly or by scanning electron microscopy. The marginal arterial arcade gives rise to vessels that enter the jejunum at the mesenteric angle. These vessels penetrated either directly, by branching and entering on both sides of the mesenteric angle, or supplying only 1 side of the mesenteric angle. All these vessels continued in the submucosa branching extensively, forming a submucosal plexus. This submucosal plexus supplied the tunica muscularis, tunica serosa, and the mucosa. Vessels within the 2 muscle layers ran parallel to the muscle fibers and, consequently, perpendicular to each other. The arterial supply to the mucosa penetrated the muscularis mucosae and branched to supply 2 mucosal capillary networks. An eccentrically placed arteriole penetrated the base of the villus and spiralled to the tip where it "fountained" into a mesh-like capillary network, which descended peripherally in the villus to drain via 1 to 3, but most commonly 2 venules. Venules from adjacent villi united and drained via the submucosal veins.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Histological examination of the peripheral circulation of the ovary of 18 females of the one‐humped camel revealed a series of blood vessels with special structures. Throttle or occlusive artery was recorded in the ovarian zona vasculosa and in the cortex, and it showed an intimal cushion‐like thickening made up of intimal bolsters that formed of smooth muscle fibres and glomus cells. The smooth muscle cells of the tunica media and the tunica adventitia of throttle artery pursued a circumferential pattern. Anastomosis arteriovenosa included simple bridge‐like anastomotic vessels between arteria and venae, and glomus vessels of typical structure were demonstrated. Glomus organs were recorded in the ovary and were comprised of the tortuous glomus vessels and the related afferent and efferent vessels. Glomus cell complexes also were commonly occur at the cortex ovarii that possessed an extremely convoluted course with a hyperplastic wall and a narrow lumen. Atypical glomus vessels were demonstrated within the ovarian zona vasculosa, and the wall of these vessels was relatively thick and consisted of double tunica media with an intimal bolster. Some vessels contained an intimal bolster device of exclusively glomus cell structure (glomus bolster) with a tunica elastic interna demarcated it from the glomus cell media. Some venae represented several layers of longitudinally arranged smooth muscle fibres in the tunica media. Other venae showed wall with variable thickness. Venae with double muscular tunica media were recorded in the medulla. Some venae showed double internal elastic lamina. Also, venae with thick adventitia contained dispersed smooth muscle fibres were determined. Spirally oriented arteriole and venule were demonstrated within the cortex and medulla ovarii. Gestation sclerosis was demonstrated in ovarian zona vasculosa of pregnant females.  相似文献

Penile haematomas, lying outside the tunica albuginea, were found in six bulls of various breeds, aged one-and-a-half to nine-and-three-quarter years. In five cases the haematomas definitely arose from rupture of the dorsal or crural canal and tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum penis (ccp) within the proximal 12 cm of the penile body. In the sixth bull, lesions of the tunica albuginea and distortion of the penis just proximal to the proximal bend of the sigmoid flexure may have represented the site of rupture. There was no evidence of rupture at the distal bend of the sigmoid flexure or of rupture of the dorsal penile vessels in any of these specimens. In all six specimens, the dorsal canals of the ccp were occluded by translucent fibrous tissue distal to the sites of rupture; this was considered to be the factor immediately predisposing to proximal rupture of the ccp. Clinically, a small haematoma in the perineal region is difficult or impossible to palpate externally. However, when the haematoma of proximal origin is large, differentiation from rupture at the distal bend of the sigmoid flexure may be based tentatively on a careful clinical examination. In cases of proximal rupture the haematoma lies caudal and dorsal to the scrotum and no abnormality of the distal bend may be palpable. In cases of distal rupture, the haematoma usually lies cranial to the scrotum and involves the distal bend of the flexure. Severe disruption of the vascular structure is found in cases of proximal rupture of the ccp; therefore the prognosis is grave.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To characterize structural changes in pulmonary vessels of dogs with dirofilariosis. ANIMALS: 8 dogs with dirofilariosis and 2 unaffected control dogs. PROCEDURE: Pulmonary artery pressure was measured in affected dogs, and dogs then were euthanatized. Scanning electron microscopy was used to examine vascular corrosion casts of pulmonary vasculature. Tissue sections of pulmonary vasculature were evaluated by use of histologic examination. RESULTS: Pulmonary artery pressure was higher in dogs with severely affected pulmonary vessels. In tissue sections, dilatation, as well as lesions in the tunica intima and proliferative lesions resulting in constriction or obstruction, were frequently observed in branches of the pulmonary artery. Numerous dilated bronchial arteries were observed around affected pulmonary arteries. Hyperplastic venous sphincters were observed in small pulmonary veins and venules. In corrosion casts, affected pulmonary lobar arteries had dilatation, pruning, abnormal tapering, constriction, and obstruction. In small arteries and arterioles, surface structures representing aneurisms and edema were seen. Bronchial arteries were well developed and extremely dilated, and they formed numerous anastomoses with pulmonary arteries at all levels, from the pulmonary trunk to peripheral vessels. Capillaries in the lungs were dilated with little structural change. Small pulmonary veins and venules had irregular annular constrictions that were caused by hyperplastic smooth muscle cells of venous sphincters. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Scanning electron microscopy of microvascular casts delineated links between the bronchial and pulmonary circulations in dogs with dirofilariosis. Results of scanning electron microscopy provided a structural explanation for the development of pulmonary circulatory disturbances and pulmonary hypertension in dogs affected by dirofilariosis.  相似文献

Tunica adventitia or tunica externa is the outer layer of the blood vessel wall. It consists of connective tissue with vasa and nervi vasorum and plays a key role in vascular health. The aim of our study was to compare the wall layers beyond tunica media in arteries of different type and location. The following arteries of pig, dog and cat were processed histologically and analysed by light microscopy: aorta ascendens, arcus aortae, aorta thoracica, aorta abdominalis, arteria (a.) femoralis, a. tibialis cranialis, a. carotis communis, a. lingualis, a. basilaris, a. cerebralis media, a. testicularis and aa. jejunales. We found two layers of connective tissue outside the media: (1) a compact layer with many elastic fibres in muscular and few in elastic arteries and (2) an outer layer of loose connective tissue. The compact layer was missing in aorta ascendens, arcus aortae and intracranial vessels. Adventitial stripping removed only the loose connective tissue layer. In spite of the still present compact layer, stripped arteries were very flimsy. We suggest using the term ‘tunica externa’ for the compact connective tissue layer and ‘tunica adventitia’ for the outermost loose connective tissue layer as in other organs. The presence of the tunica externa differs between species, arteries and arterial side, as well as the removability of tunica adventitia and tunica externa by anatomical dissection.  相似文献

Microvascular anatomy of the third compartment of the stomach of llamas   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
OBJECTIVE: To characterize the vascular anatomy of the third compartment of the stomach of llamas. ANIMALS: 7 adult llamas. PROCEDURE: Immediately after each llama was euthanatized, vascular replicas of tissue from the third compartment were prepared by use of methylmethacrylate monomer and catalyst. Following chemical removal of tissue, the casts were further prepared for examination via scanning electron microscopy. By use of barium solution, microangiography was also performed on fixed tissue samples; the infused tissue was sectioned and imaged radiographically. Tissue samples were also collected for histologic evaluation after fixation and H&E staining. RESULTS: The third compartment was supplied by 4 pairs of primary arteries and veins located around the circumference of the structure. From these vessels, smaller arteries and veins branched to supply the serosal surface and penetrated deeper through the tunica muscularis to supply the submucosal and mucosal layers. An extensive capillary network was arranged in a hexagonal array surrounding the gastric glands, such that the mucosal aspect of the replicas had a honeycomb-like appearance. Histologically, variably sized villous projections lined by a single layer of epithelial cells with an extensive glandular network were observed. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The third compartment of the stomach of llamas is a highly vascular structure with an extensive anastomotic capillary network at the luminal surface. Branching vessels provide extensive collateral circulation, and it appears that surgical incisions should heal well. Incisions in the third compartment should be oriented parallel to the longitudinal plane.  相似文献
