Dietary taurine improves reproductive performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) broodstock 下载免费PDF全文
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplemental taurine on reproductive performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) broodstock fed soybean meal‐based diets. Four isonitrogenous (350 g kg?1 protein), isocaloric (18 MJ kg?1) diets were formulated to contain 0, 5, 10 and 15 g kg?1 taurine. The diets were fed to triplicate groups of juvenile Nile tilapia (10–15 g average body weight) at a female: male ratio of 3 : 1, to apparent satiation, three times per day for 130 days. The size at first maturation decreased with increasing dietary taurine to 10 g kg?1 and levelled off with further taurine supplementation. The time to first spawning was also significantly shorter at 10 g kg?1 taurine level. Spawning performances, including spawning frequencies, total number of spawnings per tank, number of spawnings per female and absolute fecundity, were all significantly improved with increasing dietary taurine up to 10 g kg?1. However, the quadratic regression analyses indicated that the maximum spawning performance occurred at 8 g kg?1 of supplemental taurine. Eggs produced from broodstock fed 10 g kg?1 taurine exhibited significantly higher hatchability and required shorter time for hatching and yolk‐sac absorption and also resulted in higher larval weight than at other dietary taurine levels. The highest egg protein, total amino acids and taurine were also obtained at 10 g kg?1 taurine. These results suggest that 8 g kg?1 dietary taurine is required for optimum reproductive outputs of Nile tilapia broodstock. 相似文献

In an attempt to better understand and characterize the variability in the female reproduction of individual Thai‐Chitralada strains of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), tagged mature females (n=68) from a single population were monitored in a hapa‐in‐pond system over a 12‐month experimental period. Spawn female−1, eggs female−1 day−1, eggs kg female−1 day−1, day spawn−1 and weight (g) at first spawning of individual females were determined from the regular weekly sampling of weight (g) and eggs per spawn. For analysis, the females were grouped into two, high spawning (HSF) and low spawning frequency (LSF) classes based on their spawning frequency (SF) record. Moreover, nested under these two classes were two groups each based on growth rate, i.e., high frequency – large size (HL), high frequency – small size (HS), low frequency – large size (LL) and low frequency – small size (LS). There was no difference in eggs spawn−1 among all females. The HSF group produced 68% and 361% more eggs female−1 day−1 than the population mean and LSF group respectively. Eggs female−1 day−1 and spawn female−1 remained high in the HSF group and low in the LSF group throughout the 12‐month experimental period. This suggests that individual female spawning activity is consistent within a population in a common environment. The inter‐spawn interval increased with age in all four groups, and day spawn−1 was shorter by 130% in HSF females compared with day spawn−1 in LSF. The HSF group also spawned more successively (≥3), while the LSF group of females had fewer successive spawns (≤2). Body weight (g) had no influence on the number of eggs produced. The study indicates that separating frequently spawning females could be used as an important strategy to improve commercial seed production of Nile tilapia. 相似文献

The effects of stocking density and feeding levels on larval survival, growth rates, feed utilization efficiency and body composition of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) fry were investigated in two consecutive experiments. In experiment 1, swimup fry (0.016 g average body weight) were stocked in 20‐L fibreglass tanks, in a closed, recirculating indoor system, at five stocking densities (3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 fry L?1) and fed a larval test diet (40% crude protein) to apparent satiation, three times a day, for 40 days. Fish survival, percentage weight gain and specific growth rate (% SGR) were negatively correlated with stocking density. The best performance was achieved at 3 fry L?1. However, no significant differences in growth parameters were found between 3 and 5 fry L?1. Body composition was not significantly affected by stocking density. In experiment 2, fry (0.016 g average body weight) were stocked at 5 fry L?1, and fed a larval test diet (40% crude protein) at six feeding levels (10%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 35% BW day?1) and to satiation, three times a day for 40 days. Fish growth rates and survival were extremely poor at 10% feeding level, and improved significantly with increasing feeding levels up to 30%, and levelled off with further increase in feeding levels. On the contrary, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein production value (PPV) were negatively correlated with feeding level. The lowest feeding level (10%) produced significantly lower body lipid and higher protein and ash than other feeding levels. The present results suggest that the optimum stocking density and feeding level of Nile tilapia fry are 5 fry L?1 and 30% per day respectively. 相似文献

Haematological response and growth performance over 150 days, and resistance to a low-temperature stress of Nile tilapia fed diets with increasing folic acid (FA) levels were evaluated. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with eight FA levels (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 mg kg−1 feed) supplemented in purified diets (32.0% CP and 13 398 kj DE kg−1 ). One hundred and ninety-two fingerlings were randomly assigned to 32 net cages distributed in eight 1000 L aquaria with a physical and biological filter and a temperature control system (26.0 ± 1.0 °C). For cold-induced stress, fish were transferred to 24 30 L-aquaria with individual biofilters and aeration. The water temperature was gradually reduced until it reached 13 °C. Haematological parameters evaluated before and after cold stress were total erythrocytes and leucocytes count, differential leucocyte, haemoglobin, haematocrit, total plasmatic protein and haematometric indices. Growth performance parameters were mean weight gain, feed conversion ratio and survival. Dietary FA supplementation did not influence erythropoiesis under normal temperature conditions; cold stress impaired erythropoiesis, causing hypochromic microcytic anaemia and leucopoiesis, and also neutrophilia. Growth performance is influenced by folate and supplementation between 0.5 and 1.0 mg FA kg−1 diet, which makes up for nutritional demands, guaranteeing production and health under appropriate temperature conditions. 相似文献

Economic profitability of Nile tilapia production in Kenya was analysed using a model that simulated individual fish growth and took fish population dynamics in the pond into account. The results suggest that the currently practiced mixed‐sex tilapia culture is economically unsustainable. It is suggested that research and extension efforts be geared towards developing monosex Nile tilapia production systems. Nile tilapia culture with African catfish predation should be viewed as an intermediate step towards all‐male Nile tilapia culture. This will allow accumulation of both physical and human capital to support all‐male tilapia culture. Under all‐male culture, economic returns are high enough to justify investment in Nile tilapia culture using borrowed capital. However, the success of monosex culture will depend on the availability and affordability of quality fingerlings and low‐cost fish feeds. The results have a wide application in Sub‐Saharan Africa where mixed‐sex Nile tilapia culture is common. 相似文献

In the present study, immunohistochemical and morphometric analysis was used to characterize variations in muscle growth performance during muscle fibre recruitment and hypertrophy. As in fisheries, fish were classified into four age stages: alevin 35 days (0.65±0.08 g); juvenile 60 days (13.67±1.35 g); adult 90 days (73.18±4.70 g) and adult 190 days (349.76±34.62 g). The number of nuclei expressing MyoD and myogenin was similar in alevin, juvenile and adult 90 days; however, in adult 190 days, the number of nuclei expressing myogenin was higher than the number expressing MyoD. The number of proliferating cell nuclear antigen‐stained nuclei in each stage was higher than MyoD and myogenin staining with peaks in alevin and adult 90 days. These data suggest that growth per se stimulated cellular proliferation and nuclei accretion of Nile tilapia muscle fibres in alevin, juvenile and adult 90 days. Muscle fibre differentiation was more pronounced in adult 190 days. 相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of stocking density and photoperiod in increasing the reproductive performance of Oreochromis niloticus. In experiment 1, a change in stocking density (from 47.7 to 6.8 kg m?3) was performed, with groups of 48 females moved to single compartments. In experiment 2, 36 females experienced a 6L:18D photoperiod for 21 or 28 days (stocking density: 31.3 kg m?3) before being placed in individual compartments (stocking density of 6.9 kg m?3, 12L:12D photoperiod). The spawning rates in experiment 1 (32.2%) and in experiment 2 (21 days: 65.2%, 28 days: 36.1%) were significantly higher than those in the control (17.7%). On the other hand, hatching and swim‐up fry rates were significantly lower in experiment 2 – 21 days (41.3%, 40.4%) but not in experiment 1 (64.0%, 56.3%) compared with the control (67.0%, 62.3%). The spawning rate in experiment 2 – 21‐day treatment group was the highest, while the number of eggs collected per female was significantly lower than that in the control. In experiments 1 (20.8%) and 2 (21 days: 44.4%, 28 days: 19.4%), the daily spawning rates were the highest 3 days after maintaining females in single compartments. The current experiment demonstrates how specific stocking density changes can be used to induce higher spawning rates in Nile tilapia. 相似文献

This study compares the effect of three broodstock exchange treatments (exchange every month, two months and three months) versus no-exchange control treatment on year-round seed production and spawning synchrony of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus stocked in 0.4 m3 fiberglass tanks within a recirculating water system. Adult males and females with mean body weights of 161.7 g and 127.6 g, respectively, were stocked at a rate of 4 fish/tank with a male to female sex ratio of 1:3. Water temperature at 29 ± 1.0 °C and photoperiod of 18 h/day were maintained throughout the experiment. The results showed that broodstock in the exchange treatments had higher seed production and spawning synchrony compared with those in the no-exchange treatment. The exchange treatments resulted in 70.5 to 97% increase in seeds kg female–1 day–1. The different spawning parameters of broodstock in the two- and three-month exchange treatments were higher than the one-month exchange treatment. Results suggest that broodstock exchange strategy has a long-term improvement effect on seed production and spawning synchrony, and exchanging all breeders every three months is more profitable in terms of better utilization of breeders and in reducing both the holding/conditioning facilities for broodstock and the labor cost. 相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of feed colour on the performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) larvae and fingerlings. In the first experiment, triplicate groups of newly hatched larvae (0.01 g fish−1) were stocked in 40 L glass aquaria at a density of 2 fish L−1. The fish were fed a test diet (400 g kg−1 crude protein) with six different colours (dark blue, dark green, red, dark brown, yellow and light brown) for 60 days. The best performance and survival were achieved in fish fed on dark‐coloured diets, while light‐coloured diets (yellow and light brown) resulted in inferior performance. Dark diets also produced higher body protein than light diets. Body water, lipids and ash showed irregular trends. In the second experiment, triplicate groups of Nile tilapia fingerlings (5.30 g fish−1) were stocked in 140‐L aquaria, in a recirculating indoor system. The fish were fed a test diet (350 g kg−1 crude protein) with the same colours used in the larval trial, for 60 days. Growth rates, feed efficiency, survival and body composition were not significantly affected by feed colours. These results suggest that Nile tilapia larvae are visual feeders, and they prefer dark‐coloured diets to light‐coloured diets, while fingerling fish showed no preference to diet colours. 相似文献

Biofloc technology (BFT) provides an additional feed source for aquatic organisms through the conversion of waste in microbial flocs. Because of this, the suitable protein level in a diet for animals in this system could be different from those in conventional systems. Our objective was to determine the suitable protein level in the diet of Nile tilapia juveniles reared with BFT. Two experiments were carried out with tilapia weighing ~10 g (first experiment) and about 50 g (second experiment) during 61 and 98 days respectively. Five crude protein (CP) levels (within 17% and 33%) were tested. The increment of CP resulted in a reduction in dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity and an increase in dissolved phosphorus, total suspended solids and total ammonium nitrogen. The crude protein level had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on animal performance. The linear response plateau model was the best fit for the final weight and weight gain data in the two growth phases. In conclusion, tilapia juveniles of 10–60 g and 60–230 g in biofloc can be fed on diets with 28% of CP (26% of digestible protein) and 22% CP (20% of digestible protein) respectively. 相似文献

Growth performance, survival and feed utilization of diploid (2n) and triploid (3n) sex‐reversed male and female Nile tilapia were evaluated at maintenance feeding (1% body weight (BW) day?1), fixed feeding (3% BW day?1) and apparent satiation feeding levels in a freshwater recirculation system comprised of thirty‐six 1‐m3 concrete tanks at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. Triploid Nile tilapia (3n) was produced by subjecting fertilized diploid (2n) tilapia eggs to heat shock. After hatching, fish were sex‐reversed to all‐male and all‐female populations by oral administration of 17 α‐methyltestosterone (60 mg kg?1 feed) and ethynylestradiol (100 mg kg?1 feed) respectively. There was significantly higher growth with increased ration levels in both male and female groups. There were no significant differences in final BW, specific growth rate, survival rate, feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio between diploid and triploid fish. Triploids had lower gonad weights than diploids, and this was particularly evident at the satiation feeding level. Triploid fish had a significantly higher apparent net protein utilization and percentage of gutted weight than diploids at all feeding levels. Higher protein utilization efficiency of triploids might be an advantage for commercial tilapia culture but further research is necessary to make such a conclusion. 相似文献

Spontaneous diploidization of the maternal chromosome set (SDM) in Oreochromis niloticus is described here for the first time. The SDM phenomenon was observed in progeny of only one XY neofemale out of 11 such neofemales from which eggs had been fertilized with UV‐irradiated sperm: this treatment produced only the expected haploid embryos from the other females. SDM progeny were produced from three different batches of eggs from this female. No significant differences in survival at different stages of embryonic development were observed between the SDM and the diploid control group. The maternal inheritance of SDM progeny was verified using multilocus DNA fingerprinting. Only diploid karyotypes were observed in these fish and diploid control groups. In both the SDM and control groups, sex ratios were significantly skewed towards males (93.3% and 65.0% males respectively). The actual mechanism of SDM in eggs from this particular female remains unknown. 相似文献

An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary leucine on growth performance, feed utilization, body composition and non‐specific immune responses of juvenile Nile tilapia. Five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated to contain graded levels of L‐leucine (5.3, 8.1, 10.9, 13.2, 15.6 and 18.1 g kg?1 diet, respectively) from dietary ingredients and crystalline L‐leucine. Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups of 20 juvenile fish (1.94 ± 0.01 g) three times daily to apparent satiation. Results showed that the weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) increased as dietary leucine concentrations increased from 5.3 to 13.2 g kg?1 and then decreased slightly with further increase in dietary leucine concentrations. Quadratic regression analysis (y = ?522.6x2 + 1304.x + 132.6, R² = 0.684) on weight gain against dietary leucine levels indicated that the optimal dietary leucine requirement was estimated to be 12.5 g kg?1 diet (corresponding to 43.1 g kg?1 of dietary protein). Leucine supplementation had no impact on the survival and body composition of tilapia. Serum lysozyme activity of fish fed diet containing 13.2 g kg?1 leucine significantly increased compared to fish fed diet containing 5.3 g kg?1. Serum superoxide dismutase activity and immunoglobulin M (IgM) concentration were not significantly affected by dietary leucine supplementation. 相似文献

The effects of dietary protein and energy level on spawning performance of Nile tilapia broodstock and hatchability of their eggs were studied. Nine diets containing three protein (30, 35 and 40%) and three energy (14.6, 16.7 and 18.8 MJ GE/kg) levels were prepared. The diets were fed to duplicate groups of broodfish (average weight of 60.5 ± 4.6 g for males and 39.4 ± 3.1 g for females) at 2–3% of their body weight, twice a day, for 150 days. At low protein level (30%), time to first spawning was significantly longer than at 35 and 40% protein levels, and increased with increasing dietary energy (decreasing protein-to-energy (P/E) ratio). At 35 and 40% protein levels, time to first spawning was not affected by dietary energy. Inter-spawning intervals (ISI) showed irregular patterns in relation to dietary protein and energy, however, at 40% protein the females tended to spawn at shorter intervals, regardless of dietary energy. Spawning performances, including total number of spawnings per tank, number of spawnings per female, absolute fecundity and average number of eggs per spawn, were all significantly lower (P < 0.05) at 30% CP than at higher protein levels. At all protein levels, increasing dietary energy from 14.6 to 18.8 MJ GE/kg (and decreasing P:E ratio) resulted in a significant decrease in fish fecundity. Egg size was not significantly affected by dietary protein and energy. At all energy levels, egg hatchability increased with increasing dietary protein levels (P < 0.05). Eggs produced from broodstock fed 30 and 35% CP, exhibited significantly lower hatchability (P < 0.05) and needed less time for hatching and yolk-sac absorption, and resulted in lower larval length than those fed a 40% protein diet. However, increasing energy level at each dietary protein level did not significantly affect these parameters. These results revealed that the best spawning performance of Nile tilapia broodstock reared in a recycling system was achieved at 40% dietary protein and 16.7 MJ GE/kg, with a P/E ratio of 23.6 g/MJ. 相似文献

Apparent digestibility of dry matter, protein, lipid and energy of a fishmeal‐based feed (41% crude protein, 9% crude lipid and 19 kJ g−1 gross energy) was compared in genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT), genetically male Nile tilapia (GMNT) and conventional Nile tilapia (CNT) (Oreochromis niloticus). The experimental fish were reared individually under standardized conditions in a recirculation system at 27±0.1°C for 10 weeks. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) was used as a marker. Faeces of individual fish were collected daily by siphoning and stored at −18°C before analysis. No significant differences (P<0.05) were observed in the digestibility coefficients of feed dry matter (78.2±3.4%, 77.7±4.4% and 76.4±3.7%), protein (87.9±3.0%, 88.4±2.8% and 88.0±3.3%), lipid (90.0±2.5%, 91.0±2.1% and 89.4±3.0%) and energy (90.4±1.9%, 90.7±2.0% and 89.4±2.3%) in GIFT, GMNT and CNT respectively. At the end of the experiment, there were no significant differences (P<0.05) in average percentage growth (82.2±7.2, 87.3±7.7 and 74.7±4.1 respectively for GIFT, GMNT and CNT), growth rates or feed utilization efficiencies between the three tilapia groups. We conclude that the higher growth claimed for improved GIFT and GMNT as compared with CNT, if ever existing, cannot be attributed to higher nutrients or energy digestibility. 相似文献

A 12-week experiment was carried out to evaluate compensatory growth of 6.6 g Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus L. under three cyclical regimes of feed deprivation and refeeding. The deprivation and refeeding regimes included four cycles of 1 week of deprivation and 2 weeks of refeeding (S1F2), two cycles of 2 weeks of deprivation and 4 weeks of refeeding (S2F4) and one cycle of 4 weeks of deprivation and 8 weeks of refeeding (S4F8). A group of fish fed to satiation twice daily throughout the experiment served as control. At the end of the refeeding periods, fish deprived and refed cyclically had higher feed intake and specific growth rates (SGR), but lower body weight, than that of the control fish. There was no significant difference in feed efficiency ratio (FER) between the control and fish subjected to feed deprivation during the refeeding periods, and nitrogen retention efficiency (NRE) was not different between any two treatments throughout the experiment. At the end of the experiment, fish subjected to feed deprivation had lower body weight but similar body composition, relative to those of the control fish. No significant differences were found in final body weight, NRE and body composition between the fish subjected to different cycles of deprivation and refeeding, but the fish subjected to one cycle of deprivation and refeeding exhibited high mortality. Our results indicate that partial growth compensation induced by various cycles of feed deprivation and refeeding does not confer a huge advantage in terms of enhancing the production efficiency and reducing the nitrogen waste output in Nile tilapia farming 29–30 °C. 相似文献
