Genomic mining revealed one major nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) phylogenetic cluster in 12 marine sponge species, one ascidian, an actinobacterial isolate and seawater. Phylogenetic analysis predicts its taxonomic affiliation to the actinomycetes and hydroxy-phenyl-glycine as a likely substrate. Additionally, a phylogenetically distinct NRPS gene cluster was discovered in the microbial metagenome of the sponge Aplysina aerophoba, which shows highest similarities to NRPS genes that were previously assigned, by ways of single cell genomics, to a Chloroflexi sponge symbiont. Genomic mining studies such as the one presented here for NRPS genes, contribute to on-going efforts to characterize the genomic potential of sponge-associated microbiota for secondary metabolite biosynthesis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Forty-seven lucerne varieties/lines were examined to quantify their morphological, production characteristics, and nutritive values in southeastern Australia. The experiment was established in 2015 with a randomized complete block design and four replications. The morphological and production characteristics were measured from January to October 2017, and nutritive values were measured in February 2017. The results showed that the cultivars differed significantly (P < 0.01) in morphological, production characteristics, and nutritive values. Total herbage yield was highest for Haymaster 7 (14,186 kg/ha) and lowest for Qingshui (5927 kg/ha). Plant height was highest for Cropper 9.5 (31.4 cm) and lowest for Qingshui (14.5 cm). SF 714QL had the greatest branch number (44.7 branches/15 cm row segment). AV1001 had longest leaf (2.3 cm) and greatest leaf area (16.68 cm2/10 leaves) whereas Force 10 and SARDI 10 SERIES 2 had widest leaves (1.3 cm). AV1005 had the highest leaf-to-stem ratio (5.64). Crude protein (CP) content was highest for SARDI 10 SERIES 2 (15.1%) and lowest for SF 714QL (8.0%). AV12 was highest in crude fat (4.5%). Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content was lowest in Stamina 5 (33.5%). Acid detergent fiber (ADF) content was lowest in Gannong 4 (29.3%). Relative feed value (RFV) was highest in Force 11 (193.0%). Calcium (Ca) content was highest for Titan 5 (1.8%). Phosphorous content was highest for AV1 and Gannong 6 (0.1%). Overall, Cropper 9.5, SARDI 10 SERIES 2, Haymaster 9, Titan 9, SF 714QL, Kaituna, Haymaster 7, AV1001, AV1002, and WL925HQ performed well based on their comprehensive scores.  相似文献

Livestock grazing can be a means to maintain biodiversity in grasslands, but the outcome for vegetation structure and species composition depends on livestock type and grazing regime. This study aims at disentangling the effects of plant functional‐group abundance and livestock type on the above‐ and below‐ground biomass and N allocation in temperate pastures. We investigated the effects of cattle, sheep and mixed stocking on above‐ground biomass (AGB) and belowground biomass (BGB) and plant N pools in a replicated grazing experiment in two pasture community types with different plant functional‐group abundance (diverse vs. grass‐dominated swards). In the six treatments, AGB was reduced up to 80% compared with an ungrazed control. Cattle reduced AGB to a larger extent than sheep in diverse pastures (80 vs 44% reduction) while sheep grazing tended to do so in grass‐dominated pastures (57 vs 46% reduction); mixed stocking led to intermediate values. Grazing reduced AGB more than the N pool in AGB, thus lowering the biomass C/N ratio relative to the ungrazed control. Neither BGB nor the N pool in BGB differed between the grazing treatments and the control plots. We conclude that livestock type and functional‐group abundance are interacting factors that influence plant biomass and N pools in swards of managed temperate pastures. The contrasting biomass removal rates of cattle and sheep could be used to increase the structural heterogeneity and total plant species pool of pastures by keeping different livestock species in neighbouring patches.  相似文献

Watermelon mosaic virus has caused losses in cucurbits in the last 8 years in the Gascoyne River district of Western Australia. Neither insecticides nor oil sprays have reduced the incidence of this disease. In three trials, plants mulched with reflective (aluminium) polythene were less infected (by 21%, 30% and 72%) than were those given a control treatment; yield increases of watermelons ranged from 77% to 270%. Black polythene mulch also reduced the incidence of virus and increased yield, but to a lesser degree. In all experiments the disease incidence rose more slowly in the mulch plots: this effect contributed greatly to the observed increase in yield.  相似文献

为探明吉林省中西部地区玉米蛾类害虫的种类及组成, 2017~2020年利用高空探照灯逐日诱集蛾类昆虫并分类,阐明各蛾类种群的动态,对蛾类群落多样性进行分析。结果表明,共采集、鉴定玉米蛾类害虫 4科 16种,优势科为夜蛾科,种数占比达 68.75%。明确各种害虫的虫源结构及危害方式,分析 9种种群数量大、可造成危害的关键害虫的种群动态。蛾类群落丰富度随时间的变化呈波浪式, 7月的群落丰富度、群落多样性都较高, 5月、 10月的群落均匀度相对较高。5月、 7月的群落相似性系数最高, 10月与各月的相似性系数都较低。明确各月优势度指数较高的种类,可为此区域蛾类害虫的监测预警与综合治理提供理论依据。  相似文献

The extraction, fractionation and HIV-1 inhibition potential of polysaccharides extracted from three species of marine sponges, Erylus discophorus, Cliona celata and Stelletta sp., collected in the Northeastern Atlantic, is presented in this work. The anti-HIV activity of 23 polysaccharide pellets and three crude extracts was tested. Crude extracts prepared from Erylus discophorus specimens were all highly active against HIV-1 (90 to 95% inhibition). Cliona celata pellets showed low polysaccharide content (bellow 38.5%) and almost no anti-HIV activity (<10% inhibition). Stelletta sp. pellets, although quite rich in polysaccharide (up to 97.3%), showed only modest bioactivity (<36% HIV-1 inhibition). Erylus discophorus pellets were among the richest in terms of polysaccharide content (up to 98%) and the most active against HIV-1 (up to 95% inhibition). Chromatographic fractionation of the polysaccharide pellet obtained from a specimen of Erylus discophorus (B161) yielded only modestly active fractions. However, we could infer that the active molecule is most probably a high molecular weight sulfated polysaccharide (>2000 kDa), whose mechanism is possibly preventing viral attachment and entry (fusion inhibitor).  相似文献

Attract-and-kill is a possible alternative to the conventional control of Mediterranean fruit fly (medfly), Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann (Diptera: Tephritidae) with bait or cover sprays of organophosphate insecticides. In this study, we determined if an attract-and-kill device (MagMED®) could be applied alone at the recommended rate (80 devices/ha), or needed to be combined with other conventional control tactics to suppress medfly in deciduous fruit orchards (apple, nectarine, peach, pear, plum). We also determined if attract-and-kill had any detrimental effects on naturally occurring beneficial insects. Based on an acceptable level of crop loss of 2–5% (the level of crop loss growers can tolerate), attract-and-kill suppressed medfly and reduced crop loss below the acceptable level in orchards with additional controls. Attract-and-kill was most effective when combined with either bait spraying, cover spraying or both. Combining attract-and-kill with cover sprays of fenthion resulted in a drop in crop loss of apples from 2.5% to 0.5%. By combining attract-and-kill with weekly bait sprays and two cover spray applications, crop loss fell from 13.7% to 4.3% in peaches, from 6.3% to 5% in nectarines and from 6.3% to 3.7% in pears. Twice weekly bait spraying was the most effective technique at suppressing medfly, providing acceptable control when applied alone, which further improved by combining with attract-and-kill. By combining attract-and-kill with twice weekly bait spraying crop loss fell from 2% to 1% in nectarines and from 4% to 2% in apples. In laboratory trials, attract-and-kill devices killed 100% of brown lacewings (Micromus tasmaniae Walker) and 94% of transverse ladybeetles (Coccinella transversalis Fabricius) 24 h after contact. However, orchard samples suggest that it may not pose any significant negative impact on naturally occurring beneficials such as Neuroptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Thysanoptera and Syrphidae in the field.  相似文献

Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) is currently seldom used in the high‐rainfall (>600 mm) zone of south‐eastern Australia. To determine its potential to improve forage availability during the summer‐autumn feed‐deficit period, a field plot‐scale experiment with sheep evaluated a Continental cultivar of tall fescue (cv. Quantum) at Hamilton, Victoria, between September 2006 and January 2009. Four grazing treatments represented set stocking or rotational grazing at the two‐, three‐ or four‐leaf stage, in a completely randomized design with three replications. Grazing treatment effects on tall fescue tiller population dynamics, forage accumulation rates and consumption, sward nutritive value and botanical composition were measured. Results showed tall fescue can persist and support year‐round grazing by sheep, subject to water availability for summer growth from summer rain or on moisture retentive heavy soils. During the summer‐autumn (December–April) vegetative phase, grazing at the three‐leaf stage optimized forage consumption, with no difference in feed value or botanical composition between the grazing treatments during these months. During the reproductive phase (September–November), feed value was highest under set stocking and declined with the production of each successive leaf. Grazing at the three‐ or four‐leaf stage prevented winter weed invasion, but winter forage consumption was low in these treatments. Set stocking or grazing at the two‐leaf stage improved winter forage consumption rates, but these swards were invaded by winter growing weeds.  相似文献

Agrostis capillaris, Arrhenatherum elatius, Bromus willdenowii, Cynosurus cristatus, Dactylis glomerata, Elytrigia repens, Lolium multiflorum, L. perenne, Phalaris aquatica, Phleum pratense, Schedonorus phoenix, and a ryegrass selected for high surface root mass, were grown in 1 m deep × 90 mm diameter tubes of sand. Tubes were irrigated with a low ionic‐strength nutrient solution and 15N‐labelled nitrate was leached down the tubes prior to harvest. Shoot weights, root weights in 10‐cm depth increments, and shoot and root nitrogen concentrations were determined. Plants of L. multiflorum were the heaviest and plants of A. capillaris were the lightest. Root system shape was analysed by comparing the decay constant from an exponential model fitted to the proportion of root mass in 10‐cm depth increments, and, also, by analysis of the proportion of root mass in the top 10 cm. Cynosurus cristatus was strongly surface‐rooted and the perennial ryegrass, selected for high surface root mass, had more root mass between 0 and 10 cm than did the unselected perennial ryegrass cultivar. There were only small differences in root shape between the other grasses. There was a strong and positive correlation between plant dry weight and the proportion of the pulse of labelled nitrate that was intercepted. The variation in root system shape shown in this experiment had no effect on nitrate interception. Nitrate interception per unit root weight was significantly higher in A. capillaris than in the other grasses. Developing winter‐active grasses that have finely divided root systems should contribute to pastures with better nitrate retention characteristics.  相似文献

The essential oil liposomes, a kind of ecological friendly natural antibacterial agents, have good bactericidal effect. In the present study, tea tree oil liposomes (TTOLs) were prepared by the thin-membrane hydration method with sonication, and then were blended with chitosan (CS) to successfully fabricate novel TTOLs/CS composite sponges by freeze-dried method. Through the scanning electron microscope (SEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and performance tests, it was found that the material had good water absorption, water retention and water vapor permeability due to the high porosity. Furthermore, the incorporation of TTOLs in the CS-based sponges significantly improved the microbicidel effect of the sponges against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Candida albicans (C. albicans). Killing log values of TTOLs/CS composite sponges against bacteria and fungi reached over 3. According to the microbial clearance test, propidium iodide (PI) fluorescence test and transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation, the results indicated on one hand that TTOLs/CS composite sponges adsorbed and intercepted microbial cells through the internal pore and surface charge, and on the other hand that they could destroy bacterial intercellular substance, disperse cell colony and damage the integrity of cell membrane, finally leading to the death of microbial cells. In summary, TTOLs/CS composite sponges had great potential to be used as antimicrobial materials in the field of food, cosmetics, medicine, biomedical and biochemical engineering.  相似文献

The ischemic disorders, in which platelet aggregation and blood coagulation are involved, represent a major cause of disability and death worldwide. The antithrombotic therapy has unsatisfactory performance and may produce side effects. So, there is a need to seek molecules with antithrombotic properties. Marine organisms produce substances with different well defined ecological functions. Moreover, some of these molecules also exhibit pharmacological properties such as antiviral, anticancer, antiophidic and anticoagulant properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate, through in vitro tests, the effect of two extracts of brown algae and ten marine sponges from Brazil on platelet aggregation and blood coagulation. Our results revealed that most of the extracts were capable of inhibiting platelet aggregation and clotting measured by plasma recalcification tests, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, and fibrinogenolytic activity. On the other hand, five of ten species of sponges induced platelet aggregation. Thus, the marine organisms studied here may have molecules with antithrombotic properties, presenting biotechnological potential to antithrombotic therapy. Further chemical investigation should be conducted on the active species to discover useful molecules for the development of new drugs to treat clotting disorders.  相似文献

The object of this study was to determine the effect of closing date and date of harvest for conservation (accumulation period), on dry‐matter (DM) yield and forage quality of annual pasture in Western Australia. The field study comprised 48 plots, 2 m × 2 m, sown with either annual ryegrass (Lolium rigidum Gaud.) or Italian ryegrass (L. multiflorum Lam.), and mixed with subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum L.). Defoliation of swards until the end of winter was at the three leaves tiller–1 stage. In spring, once stem nodal development had commenced, swards were defoliated every 3–4 weeks. Swards were defoliated either twice with three leaves tiller–1 (accumulation period 1 commenced on 15 August); twice with three leaves tiller–1 and then once after 4 weeks (accumulation period 2 commenced on 11 September); twice with three leaves tiller–1 and then twice after 4‐week intervals (accumulation period 3 commenced on 9 October) or; twice with 3 leaves tiller–1 and then twice after 4‐week intervals and then once after 3 weeks (accumulation period 4 commenced on 30 October). From the commencement of the accumulation period, tiller density, DM yield and forage quality were determined weekly for up to 10 weeks. There was a positive quadratic association between DM yield and days after the commencement of the accumulation period. Yields were maximized from accumulation period 1 with 5·3, 6·6 and 9·5 t DM ha–1, and growth rates were 140, 128 and 145 kg DM ha–1 d–1, for Wimmera annual ryegrass and Richmond and Concord cultivars of Italian ryegrass respectively. In contrast, in vitro dry‐matter digestibility (IVDMD) and crude protein (CP) content were negatively associated with days after the commencement of the accumulation period, and initial values were greater than 0·80 and 180 g kg DM–1 for IVDMD and CP content respectively. The rate of decline in IVDMD d–1 for Wimmera annual ryegrass was 0·005, 0·019 and 0·012 d–1 for accumulation periods 1, 2 and 3, respectively, while for Italian ryegrass cultivars Richmond was 0·015, 0·011, 0·02 and 0·012 d–1 and Concord was 0·014, 0·009, 0·013 and 0·01 d–1, for the 4 accumulation periods respectively. It is recommended that annual and Italian ryegrass pastures be harvested between 10% and 20% inflorescence emergence when IVDMD will exceed 0·70 regardless of cultivar and/or defoliation practice prior to the commencement of the accumulation period.  相似文献

Kernel water relations play a key role in controlling the duration of grain filling. This duration is controlled by the relationship between kernel water and biomass development, as it determines the timing kernels reach a critical percent moisture content (MC, measured on a fresh weight basis) at which biomass accumulation stops. The time in which this critical percent MC is attained can be affected by the timing kernel net water uptake stops (i.e. maximum water content is reached), or by the relationship between water loss and biomass deposition after maximum water content is attained. Which of the two mechanisms could be behind genotypic differences in maize (Zea mays L.) grain-filling duration was unknown. We also studied the relationship between kernel water and volume development, as it was unknown in this species. Thirteen commercial hybrids were evaluated under different growing environments, and weight, water content and volume of their kernels were measured throughout grain filling.  相似文献

Summary 1. Information available on the nature, location in the cell, and distribution of carotenoids in the photosynthetic tissues of higher plants, in algae and in the photosynthetic bacteria is outlined.2. The effects of light and temperature on carotenogenesis are discussed in some detail.3. The mechanism of carotenogenesis has been discussed from the points of view of the three main outstanding problems: (a) the nature of the basic monomer; (b) the nature of the primitive C40 precursor and (c) the insertion of the oxygen function to produce xanthophylls.
Zusammenfassung Die bekannten Daten über Natur, Lokalisierung in der Zelle, und Verbreitung von Karotinoïden in den der Photosynthese dienenden Geweben der höheren Pflanzen, der Algen und der photosynthetischen Bakterien werden erwähnt. Die Einflüsse des Lichtes und der Temperatur auf die Karotinoïdbildung werden eingehend besprochen. Der Mechanismus der Karotinoïdbildung wurde diskutiert, ausgehend von drei Gesichtspunkten: a) von der Natur des Monomers, das die Grundsubstanz bildet; b) von der Natur des ersten Vorproduktes C40; c) von dem Einbau von OH-Gruppen in das Molekul, um Xanthophylle zu bilden.

Résumé Rappel des données acquises sur la nature, la localisation dans la cellule et la distribution des caroténoïdes dans les tissus photosynthétiques des plantes supérieures, des algues et des bactéries photosynthétiques. Les effect de lumière et de température sur la caroténogenèse sont examinés en détail. Le mécanisme de la caroténogenèse a été discuté en partant des trois problèmes principaux: (a) la nature du monomère initial; (b) la nature du précurseur primaire en C40; (c) l'introduction de la fonction oxhydrile déterminant la formation de xanthophylle.

Imidacloprid is a commonly used insecticide that is highly effective in controlling insect pests of potato. The relatively high cost of imidacloprid provides commercial growers with a strong incentive to reduce field application rates. In the present study, we investigated the impact of reduced imidacloprid rates on aphid abundance and potato virus Y transmission within potato fields. Infurrow applications of imidacloprid provided better aphid control even at a reduced rate when compared to threshold-based foliar applications, but did not suppress the spread of the non-persistently transmitted potato virus Y. Virus transmission was significantly decreased in foliar-sprayed plots, possibly because foliar applications incapacitated aphid vectors probing or feeding on infected plants. Despite these generally encouraging results, we still observed 2.3 to 2.7 fold increase in virus infection at foliar-treated plots at the end of the growing season.  相似文献

Data are few on concentrations of nitrogen (N) in the cell wall and lignocellulose (neutral- and acid-detergent fibre (NDF and ADF), respectively) of herbage. Herbage N can be partitioned into neutral- and acid-detergent soluble and insoluble N to crudely estimate rapidly degradable (N soluble in neutral detergent), slowly degradable (neutral-detergent fibre N (NDFN) minus acid-detergent fibre N (ADFN), herein termed available fibre N (AFN)), and indigestible N (ADFN) in the rumen. Our objective was to examine the effects of herbage species, maturity stage, and plant part on N in the NDF and ADF of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.), red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), timothy (Phleum pratense L.), and smooth bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.). Herbage was harvested at four 2-week intervals during spring of 1984 and 1985. Leaves, stems and total herbage were analysed for total N, and N in NDF and ADF. Concentrations of N in ADF in leaves, stems, and total herbage of lucerne and clover were twice that of grass ADF. This may be due to greater lignin concentrations generally reported in legumes. Concentrations of NDFN in leaves of lucerne, clover, timothy, and bromegrass were 9–8, 26.4, 8.6, and 6.4 g kg?1 of NDF, respectively, averaged over harvests and years, whereas stem concentrations were 4.2, 4.6, 32, and 2.4 g kg?1 of NDF, respectively. Leaf concentrations of ADFN in lucerne, clover, timothy, and bromegrass were 4.6, 5.3, 20, and 1.6 g kg?1 of ADF, respectively, averaged over harvests and years, whereas stem concentrations were 3.4, 33, 14, and 14 g kg-’of ADF, respectively. As a proportion of the total N, NDFN and ADFN increased with plant maturity in leaves, stems, and herbage. In stems, 49% of NDFN was ADFN, whereas in leaves only 21% of the NDFN was ADFN. The larger portion of ADFN in stems probably reflects the larger proportion of lignified xylem and other structural tissues, which have a greater proportion of lignified secondary cell walls, whereas the greater proportion of NDFN in leaves may mirror the greater amount of mesophyll cells with primary cell walls. More than 80% of the total N in leaves, stems, and herbage was in the cell solubles, which may be rapidly ruminally degradable.  相似文献
