Five French Alpine goats received 2 mg kg–1 of dichlorvos (DDVP) by intravenous injection and 0.15 mg kg–1 of atropine sulphate 5–10 min later. Ventilatory mechanics, gas exchanges, pulmonary haemodynamics and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) were measured before treatment, 5 min after DDVP injection and 5 min after atropine injection.Within 2 min of DDVP administration, all the goats showed acute respiratory distress, excitation and slight muscle fasciculations. A post-inspiratory pause was recorded in 3 goats. Hypersecretion of saliva or nasal discharge was not observed. Dynamic compliance and heart rate decreased significantly and total pulmonary resistance, pulmonary artery and wedge pressures increased significantly. On the other hand, minute ventilation, arterial oxygen and carbon dioxide tensions were not significantly altered by DDVP.Atropine treatment reversed all the clinical and functional parameters, with the exception of the central nervous and muscular signs, which disappeared within 12 h.It was concluded that experimental DDVP toxicosis induced changes in the mechanics of breathing and pulmonary haemodynamics associated with diffuse bronchoconstriction and cardiac insufficiency respectively.  相似文献

Using adult mongrel dogs, experiments were performed to elucidate the relationship between the changes in the myocardial oxygen tension (PmO2) in anoxia and disturbances of cardiac function. Dogs, forced to inspire 100% N2, suffered from a respiratory arrest after 5 min, and developed acute anoxia. However, by 100% O2 inhalation 2 min after the onset of the respiratory arrest, the anoxia rapidly resolved. The arterial oxygen tension (PaO2), left intra ventricular oxygen tension (PLVO2) and PmO2 showed the most pronounced fall 2 min after the respiratory arrest induced by N2 inhalation. The arterial carbon deoxide tension (PaCO2) decreased until the respiratory arrest, after which it started to rise. When inhalation of 100% O2 was initiated at the anoxia, the PaO2, PLVO2 and PmO2 recovered within 1 min followed by a rise beyond the baseline value. Left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP), left atrial mean pressure (LAm), left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP), aortic mean pressure (Aom), maximum rate of force development by left ventricle (LVmax.dp/dt), total peripheral resistance (TPR), cardiac output (CO) and heart rate (HR) were measured. At the onset of anoxia, these parameters decreased sharply. When inhalation of 100% O2 was initiated within 2 min of the respiratory arrest, these disturbances of cardiac function recovered rapidly. The fall of PmO2 plays an important role in the impairment of cardiac function.  相似文献

Cardiopulmonary effects of etomidate administration were studied in hypovolemic dogs. Baseline cardiopulmonary data were recorded from conscious dogs after instrumentation. Hypovolemia was induced by withdrawal of blood from dogs until mean arterial pressure of 60 mm of Hg was achieved. Blood pressure was maintained at 60 mm of Hg for 1 hour, by further removal or replacement of blood. One milligram of etomidate/kg of body weight was then administered IV to 7 dogs, and the cardiopulmonary effects were measured 3, 15, 30, and 60 minutes later. After blood withdrawal and prior to etomidate administration, heart rate, arterial oxygen tension, and oxygen utilization ratio increased. Compared with baseline values, the following variables were decreased: mean arterial pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, central venous pressure, pulmonary wedge pressure, cardiac index, oxygen delivery, mixed venous oxygen tension, mixed venous oxygen content, and arterial carbon dioxide tension. Three minutes after etomidate administration, central venous pressure, mixed venous and arterial carbon dioxide tension, and venous admixture increased, and heart rate, arterial and venous pH, and arterial oxygen tension decreased, compared with values measured immediately prior to etomidate administration. Fifteen minutes after etomidate injection, arterial pH and heart rate remained decreased. At 30 minutes, only heart rate was decreased, and at 60 minutes, mean arterial pressure was increased, compared with values measured before etomidate administration. Results of this study indicate that etomidate induces minimal changes in cardiopulmonary function when administered to hypovolemic dogs.  相似文献

Cardiovascular and pulmonary effects of recumbency in two conscious ponies   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Respiratory dead-space, tidal volume, respiratory rate, blood gases, cardiac output, heart rate and arterial and pulmonary arterial blood pressures were measured in two conscious, trained ponies in the standing position and in left lateral recumbency. The ponies were reluctant to remain lying down for more than about 20 mins but the reason for this did not become apparent. Tidal volume was reduced during recumbency but the respiratory rate increased, tending to maintain the minute volume at about that of the standing animal. Arterial carbon dioxide tension did not change significantly from standing values but the mean arterial oxygen tension values tended to decrease in both ponies during recumbency because of a slight increase in pulmonary venous admixture. Venous admixture in these two laterally recumbent conscious animals was considerably less than previously reported for anaesthetised subjects.  相似文献

Twenty-five horses admitted for minor orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery were anaesthetised with detomidine, ketamine and halothane. Heart rate, arterial blood pressure, respiratory rate, tidal volume, minute volume, blood gases and occlusion pressures were measured before and for 30 mins after intravenous (iv) injection of saline, butorphanol 0.05 mg/kg bodyweight (bwt) or morphine 0.02 or 0.05 mg/kg bwt. Drug or saline treatment induced no significant changes from pre-treatment values within a group for arterial blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, arterial carbon dioxide tension, arterial oxygen tension and occlusion pressure. In conclusion, both morphine and butorphanol at the stated doses cause no adverse effects on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems of anaesthetised horses.  相似文献

The cardiopulmonary effects of thiopental sodium were studied in hypovolemic dogs from completion of until 1 hour after administration of the drug. Hypovolemia was induced by withdrawal of blood from dogs until mean arterial pressure of 60 mm of Hg was achieved. After stabilization at this pressure for 1 hour, 8 mg of thiopental/kg of body weight was administered IV to 7 dogs, and cardiopulmonary effects were measured. After blood withdrawal and prior to thiopental administration, heart rate and oxygen utilization ratio increased, whereas mean arterial pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, central venous pressure, pulmonary wedge pressure, cardiac index, oxygen delivery, mixed venous oxygen tension, and mixed venous oxygen content decreased from baseline. Three minutes after thiopental administration, heart rate, mean arterial pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, pulmonary vascular resistance, and mixed venous oxygen tension increased, whereas oxygen utilization ratio and arterial and mixed venous pH decreased from values measured prior to thiopental administration. Fifteen minutes after thiopental administration, heart rate was still increased; however by 60 minutes after thiopental administration, all measurements had returned to values similar to those obtained prior to thiopental administration.  相似文献

In sheep, alpha(2)-agonists can induce severe hypoxaemia. In goats, reports on changes in oxygenation are inconsistent. The aim of this study was to compare the cardiopulmonary effects of dexmedetomidine in six goats and four sheep anaesthetised with sevoflurane and maintained at approximately 1 minimal alveolar concentration. The animals were ventilated mechanically and held in an upright position to minimise the influence of positioning on pulmonary function. After baseline cardiopulmonary measures, 2 microg/kg dexmedetomidine was injected intravenously over one minute, and measurements were made for 120 minutes. In both species, respiratory resistance, alveolar dead space and shunt fraction increased and thoracic compliance decreased significantly; arterial, pulmonary arterial, pulmonary capillary wedge and central venous pressures increased and heart rate and cardiac output decreased significantly. Arterial oxygen tension decreased significantly, with no significant difference between the goats and sheep. Wide interindividual differences were observed in both the goats (mean [sd] 144 [149.1] mmHg, range 54.8 to 443.7 mmHg) and sheep (mean [sd] 129.8 [132.1] mmHg, range 33.7 to 352.8 mmHg), but the cardiovascular and respiratory changes were similar in the two species.  相似文献

The cardiovascular and respiratory effects of 3 rapidly acting barbiturates, thiopental sodium, thiamylal sodium, and methohexital sodium, were studied in dogs from completion of injection until 12.5 minutes after injection. The doses administered were 19.4 mg of thiopental/kg of body weight, 18.4 mg of thiamylal/kg, and 9.7 mg of methohexital/kg, which were chosen as equipotent doses necessary to inhibit the laryngoscopic reflex in 50% of the population. To determine the cardiovascular and respiratory effects for each drug, the values at each measurement time following injection were compared with baseline values (T0). At the 15- and 30-second measurement times following thiopental administration, stroke volume (SV) decreased; heart rate (HR), left atrial pressure, and mean pulmonary arterial pressure increased; and cardiac index (CI), myocardial contractility, and systemic and pulmonary vascular resistances were not different from baseline values. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) was not different from the baseline value at 15 seconds, but was increased from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. All values except HR had returned to baseline values by 7.5 minutes. At all measurement times, arterial oxygen tension and arterial pH were decreased, and arterial carbon dioxide tension increased from baseline values. Although the cardiovascular and respiratory changes following administration of thiamylal and methohexital were similar to those described for thiopental, some differences were found. Following thiamylal administration, systemic vascular resistance increased at 1 minute, pulmonary vascular resistance increased at 1 and 2 minutes, and myocardial contractility increased at 1 and 2 minutes. Following methohexital administration, MAP decreased at 15 seconds, and SV decreased at all measurement times.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

With respiratory therapy in critically ill veterinary patients becoming more commonplace, a consistent Indicator of pulmonary function status is necessary. Although calculation of the pulmonary shunt fraction correlates well with the degree of pulmonary dysfunction, lts detetmination requires placement of a pulmonary arterial catheter, an invasive procedure that may not be practical in many clinical situations. Using Information obtained from the atterial blood gas, many other oxygen-tension derived Indices have been suggested as noninvasive measurements of the efficiency of pulmonary gas exchange, lncluding the alveoiar-arterial oxygen tension difference, the ratio of arterial to alveolar oxygen tension, the ratio of arterial to inspired oxygen tension, and the ratio of alveolar-arterial gradient to arterial oxygen tension. A total of 427 blood gas values from 195 different patients were evaluated. A loglstic regression model using a stepwise algorithm was constructed to assess potential multicollinearity and interaction between factors. The only factors that contributed significantly to the model predictive of survival were age (p < 0.015), base excess (p < 0.029), and the alveolar-arterial oxygen tension difference (p < 0.014).  相似文献

The cardiopulmonary effects of 0, 5, 10, and 15 cm of H2O positive end-expiratory pressures (PEEP) were determined in anesthetized, spontaneously breathing horses, using a 4 by 4 Latin-square design with one repetition. Cardiac output, alveolar-arterial oxygen tension difference, alveolar ventilation, dead space/tidal volume ratio, and carbon dioxide elimination were not significantly altered by the procedure. As PEEP was increased, alveolar and arterial oxygen tensions, respiratory exchange ratio, and pH decreased, whereas arterial carbon dioxide tension and oxygen consumption increased. These results indicate PEEP is contraindicated in laterally recumbent spontaneously ventilating anesthetized horses breathing air, because it causes alveolar hypoventilation and does not improve pulmonary gas exchange.  相似文献

Intraruminal administration of 0.25 g of 3-methylindole (3MI; skatole/kg of body weight) to seven young calves generally caused mild respiratory signs and lesions, accompanied by only slight changes in cardiopulmonary function. Moderate depression, trembling, and irregular respiratory rate were observed between postadministration hours (PAH) 6 and 12. By PAH 24 at this dosage, abnormal clinical signs were not present. Statistically significant (P less than or equal to 0.05) changes observed in blood gas data from the seven calves were a decrease in aortic oxygen tension at PAH 12, increases in free-flowing venous oxygen tension in the intervals between PAH 6 and 12 and between PAH 6 and 24, and an increase in occluded venous oxygen tension at PAH 24. All calves had increases (although generally not statistically significant) in heart rate, cardiac output, cardiac index, stroke volume, and stroke index after 3MI administration. Mean aortic and pulmonary arterial pressure changes were generally small and variable. At necropsy, the lungs of the calves did not collapse when the thorax was opened. Patchy areas of consolidation (0.5 cm in diameter) were scattered throughout the parenchyma. Pulmonary edema or emphysema was not observed grossly. Microscopically, the alveolar septae were irregularly thickened because of edema, infiltration by polymorphonuclear and mononuclear cells, and vascular congestion. Interstitial lesions were patchy in distribution and severity and corresponded to the areas of consolidation observed grossly. Alveolar epithelial hypertrophy and hyperplasia were present, and an occasional focus of alevoli contained fluid of edema. Degeneration of individual hepatocytes was observed in scattered areas of the liver, especially in the periportal areas. It was concluded that differences in 3MI dosage response may exist between young calves and adult cattle in which calves are more resistant to the pulmonary cytotoxicity of 3MI.  相似文献

Certain circulatory and respiratory values were measured in horses in the standing, lateral, and supine positions. Twelve adult horses were kept in the standing position under the influence of glycerol guiacolate. Alterations in position to lateral and dorsal recumbencies were achieved without any further drug administration. The changes from the standing to the lateral position decreased the arterial oxygen tension, but left the arterial carbon dioxide tension unchanged. There was no statistically significant effect of body position on respiratory flow rates or volumes. The shift from the lateral position to the supine position had no statistically significant effect on any of the measured values. It is assumed that the change from the standing to the lateral position results in an increase in ventilation of the uppermost parts of the lung. The perfusion inequalities are due mainly to the effect of gravity of the pulmonary circulation which may result in a decrease in arterial oxygen tension.  相似文献

Thirteen healthy neonatal Holstein calves were cold stressed twice by hosing with cold water for 20 minutes, 12 hours between hosings. Measurements of the pattern of ventilation [tidal volume (VT), respiratory frequency (f), minute ventilation (VMIN), and functional residual capacity (FRC)], gas exchange properties of the lungs [alveolar ventilation (VA), oxygen uptake (VO2), CO2 production (VCO2), dead space ventilation (VD), dead space/tidal volume ratio (VD/VT), arterial oxygen tension (PaO2), arterial CO2 tension (PaCO2) and alveolar-arterial oxygen difference (AaDO2)] and of the mechanical properties of the pulmonary system [dynamic compliance (Cdyn), pulmonary resistance (RL), and total respiratory system resistance (RRS)] were taken. Calves responded to chilling by increasing VO2 and VCO2 necessitating an increase in VA. This was accomplished by increasing VT with reciprocal decreases in f so that VMIN remained constant. There was no change in Cdyn, RL, or AaDO2. Seven of these 13 calves were then exposed to intratracheal inoculation of 2 X 10(9) organisms of Pasteurella haemolytica, the remaining calves serving as controls. Within 1 hour, calves exposed to P haemolytica had increased VMIN, f, VD/VT, and VD. There was a decrease in PaO2 associated with increased AaDO2, but no change in PaCO2, Cdyn or RL. By 3 hours after inoculation, there were pronounced changes in PaO2 and AaDO2, and Cdyn was reduced below base-line values. By 12 hours after inoculation, calves infected with P haemolytica had increased RL and RRS and PaCO2, in addition to the previously mentioned changes. Data from Pasteurella-exposed calves indicate that gas exchange impairment and peripheral lung injury occur rapidly and that increases in airway resistance develop relatively late in the disease.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Cardiopulmonary function was measured in 6 conscious dogs with progressive degrees of induced pneumothorax. Minute volume, respiratory rate, central venous pressure, systemic arterial pressure, pulmonary arterial pressure, pulmonary arterial occlusion pressure, heart rate, cardiac output, and arterial and mixed venous blood gases were determined before pneumothorax and at progressive volumes of pneumothorax equivalent to 50, 100, and 150% of the calculated lung volume. Tidal volume, pulmonary vascular resistance, alveolar to arterial O2 tension difference, physiologic dead space fraction, and pulmonary venous admixture also were calculated. Linear increases in respiratory rate, central venous pressure, alveolar to arterial O2 tension difference, and pulmonary venous admixture differed significantly (P less than 0.05). Linear decreases in tidal volume, pHv, pHa, PvO2, and PaO2 were also significantly different. Quadratic increases were significantly different for pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance. Trends were not significantly different for other values.  相似文献

Anesthesia of equids is associated with pulmonary dysfunction. Cardiovascular and respiratory effects of inhalation anesthetic agents and duration of anesthesia have been studied, using oxygen as the carrier gas. To our knowledge, the effects of inspired oxygen have not been determined. We studied the cardiovascular and respiratory effects of 2 inspired oxygen fractions (0.30 and greater than 0.85) in 5 laterally recumbent, halothane-anesthetized horses. Mean systemic arterial blood pressure, cardiac output, central venous pressure, pulmonary arterial pressure, arterial pH, and arterial base excess were similar in horses of the 2 groups during 4 hours of anesthesia at constant end-tidal halothane concentration. End-tidal partial pressure of CO2, arterial partial pressure of CO2 and O2, and alveolar-to-arterial O2 tension difference were greater in horses exposed to the higher oxygen concentration. On the basis of the data obtained, we suggest that greater hypoventilation and ventilation/perfusion mismatch occur when horses are breathing high-oxygen fraction. Arterial partial pressure of O2 was not different between the 2 groups of horses after they were disconnected from the anesthesia circuit and allowed to breathe room air. Horses recovered from anesthesia without complications.  相似文献

Inhibitory effects of dichlorvos (2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate, DDVP) [corrected] on erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and plasma cholinesterase (ChE) activities of steers were characterized after treatments in vitro and in vivo (cutaneous application). The rates of in vitro inhibition were markedly influenced by DDVP concentration and incubation time. The activities of inhibited enzymes failed to reactivate spontaneously and had little response to treatment with 2-pyridine aldoxime methiodide (2-PAM). After gel-filtration chromatography, however, the inhibited enzymes had remarkable spontaneous reactivation and reactivation by 2-PAM treatment, indicating interference of excess unreacted DDVP in the reactivation process. Repeated cutaneous applications of a DDVP-containing livestock spray caused marked and characteristic decreases of AChE and ChE activities in blood of treated steers; however, the effects were transient because activities of both enzymes regenerated gradually. The nature of these in vivo trends suggests that spontaneous and de novo synthetic mechanisms could be responsible for complete recovery of both enzyme activities.  相似文献

Confined and unconfined fallow deer (Dama dama) of the black variety kept at Whipsnade Park were sedated with etorphine in combination with acepromazine, or xylazine or both, with or without atropine. Induction, sedation and recovery times were recorded. During the period under sedation, systemic and pulmonary arterial pressures, electrocardiographs, body temperature, arterial blood gas pressures and pH, packed cell volume and plasma electrolytes and enzymes were monitored. In both groups, and with all drug combinations, heart rates (except where atropine was used and respiratory rates were depressed, pulmonary arterial pressures were elevated, and blood oxygen tension and pH lowered compared with interspecies norms. In confined animals, systemic arterial pressures were depressed. Unconfined animals and animals in which atropine was used showed higher and more varied systemic arterial pressures and more varied heart rates. Cardiac arrests occurred in eight animals, five during induction and three during sedation, one of which was revived with oxygen. Severe arrhythmia occurred in an animal in which atrioventricular block was confirmed and reversed by oxygen treatment.  相似文献

Cardiopulmonary effects of propofol were studied in hypovolemic dogs from completion of, until 1 hour after administration. Hypovolemia was induced by withdrawal of blood from dogs until mean arterial pressure of 60 mm of Hg was achieved. After stabilization at this pressure for 1 hour, 6 mg of propofol/kg of body weight was administered IV to 7 dogs, and cardiopulmonary effects were measured. After blood withdrawal and prior to propofol administration, oxygen utilization ratio increased, whereas mean arterial pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, central venous pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, cardiac index, oxygen delivery, mixed venous oxygen tension, and mixed venous oxygen content decreased from baseline. Three minutes after propofol administration, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, pulmonary vascular resistance, oxygen utilization ratio, venous admixture, and arterial and mixed venous carbon dioxide tensions increased, whereas mean arterial pressure, arterial oxygen tension, mixed venous oxygen content, arterial and mixed venous pH decreased from values measured prior to propofol administration. Fifteen minutes after propofol administration, mixed venous carbon dioxide tension was still increased; however by 30 minutes after propofol administration, all measurements had returned to values similar to those measured prior to propofol administration.  相似文献

The effects of a halothane/oxygen combination on the cardiopulmonary function of 11 healthy cats were studied. Test parameters included cardiac output, measured via thermo-dilution, heart rate, respiratory rate, arterial blood pressure (systolic, diastolic and mean) and blood gas analysis. Values for systemic vascular resistance, cardiac index and stroke volume were calculated from these data. Cardiac output, cardiac index, heart rate, stroke volume, arterial blood pressure (systolic, diastolic and mean) and arterial blood pH were significantly decreased (p less than 0.001). Respiratory rate was also significantly decreased (p less than 0.007) with arterial CO2 tension being significantly increased (p less than 0.001). Statistically significant changes, where seen, persisted for the duration of the anesthetic period. Arterial O2 tension and systemic vascular resistance remained unchanged. All parameters returned to near pretest values within 30 minutes following cessation of halothane anesthesia.  相似文献

Following preliminary studies with detomidine hydrochloride in 10 young buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis), the effects of an intramuscular injection of 40 /ixg.kg-1 were studied in 6 healthy buffaloes of VA to 2 years of age, weighing between 85 and 140 kg. Arterial blood pressure, central venous pressure, heart rate, electrocardiogram, electroencephalogram, respiratory rate, arterial pH, arterial and venous blood gases and rectal temperature were monitored before, and for an hour after, intramuscular injection of detomidine. Marked ataxia and sternal recumbency occurred within 10 minutes of injection, and an apparent complete recovery occurred in about 90 minutes. The electroencephalograms never demonstrated the high-voltage-low-frequency wave forms normally associated with sedation, but the animals appeared well sedated.
After injection there was marked decrease in heart rate which then tended to increase but it remained significantly (P < 0.05) below pre-injection values at 60 minutes. The mean arterial pressure increased initially, especially when electrocardiogram showed AV block, but after 15 minutes it had declined to below pre-injection values. These changes in the arterial blood pressure were, however, not statistically significant. Central venous pressure tended to increase during sedation but except at 30 minutes this increase was not statistically significant.
Rectal temperature, arterial pH, arterial carbon dioxide tension, standard bicarbonate and cranial vena caval oxygen tension did not show any significant variation. Respiratory rate and arterial oxygen tension decreased significantly.  相似文献
