The natural frequencies, aerodynamic noise, whistling noise, and self-excited vibration between the common circular saw with uniform thickness and the circular saw with step thickness (thin on its outer part and thick on its inner part) were researched during idling. The natural frequencies of the circular saw with step thickness increased with an increase in the thickness and in the radius of the thick part. The frequencies of the circular saws with step thickness (thick at the inner part) were higher than that of the thin circular saw with a uniform thickness of 0.5mm. The aerodynamic sound pressure level induced from circular saw teeth increased with an increase in the tooth thickness. The whistling noise and self-excited vibration easily occurred in the thick circular saws (1.5, 2.0, and 2.5mm). The whistling sound pressure level and the vibration amplitude increased with an increase in the thickness of the saw. None of the designed circular saws with step thickness generated whistling noises or self-excited vibration during idling.Part of this report was presented at the 45th annual meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society at Tokyo, April 1995 and the 12th International Wood Machining Seminar at Kyoto, October 1995  相似文献

This paper presents the performance of coated carbide tools when grooving various density hardboards and wood-chip cement boards. Work materials of low density (about 0.8g/cm3) and high density (about 1.2g/cm3) were tested. The coating materials studied were chromium carbide, titanium carbonitride, and titanium carbide, which were synthesized on P30 carbide substrate using a chemical vapor deposition method; titanium nitride, chromium nitride, and titanium carbonitride were synthesized using the physical vapor deposition method. Cutting tests were performed during grooving at a cutting speed of 1000m/min and a feed rate of 0.1 mm/rev. The results of the study show that the coated carbide tools are more advantageous in reducing the progression of tool wear and retaining lower normal force and noise level when cutting both hardboard and wood-chip cement board of high density than was the uncoated carbide tool. The wear rate of the coated carbide tools for the wood-chip cement board increased more rapidly than that of the hardboard with increasing densities. Though the coated carbide tools suffered more wear with the low-density wood-chip cement board than with hardboard, their normal force and noise level were always lower for the low-density wood-chip cement board.Part of this paper was presented at the 11th Annual Meeting of the Chugoku Shikoku branch of the Japan Wood Research Society, Matsue, Shimane, September 25, 1999  相似文献

Continuous milling tests with diamond-coated and uncoated cemented carbide tools and polycrystalline diamond tools were carried out on air-dried and wet melapi (Shorea sp.) and western redcedar (Thuja plicata D. Don). These tools were examined for corrosive-wear characteristics of the tool-edge appearance, cutting-edge profile, edge recession, and cutting-power consumption. The tool surfaces were observed with a scanning electron microscope and were analyzed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Based on these examinations, the occurrence of corrosive wear while cutting wet woods was confirmed for the uncoated and polycrystalline diamond tools. In contrast, the coated tools did not exhibit corrosive wear, nor did delamitation or wear of the diamond film occur with any of the work materials. The diamond-coated tools showed high resistance not only to mechanical wear but also to corrosive wear. The results of this work were presented at the 48th annual meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Shizuoka, April 1998  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Lack of a monitoring system for guided circular saws marks one of the most critical machines in sawmills as a production bottleneck. Monitoring systems are being researched and developed for machine tools, especially for the metal cutting industry; but there are limited studies on the development of monitoring systems for circular saws in wood manufacturing process. In this study, sensors with the possibility to indicate sawing deviation were chosen that could be mounted in or on the saw guides. The sensors were: a microphone, an accelerometer, temperature sensor, an acoustic emission (AE) sensor, and a newly developed displacement sensor. A load cell was used to measure the lateral force on the guides. The outputs from these sensors were compared to the standard deviation of the board surface measured at the top of the cut. The signals from the displacement sensor, microphone, accelerometer, guide force sensor, and AE senor had no correlation to changes in the sawing deviation as measured by the standard deviation at the top of the board. Under laboratory conditions, the sound level and the AE signal did indicate the beginning and end of the cut. It was found that blade temperature is a good indicator of saw cutting performance. A newly developed temperature sensor can provide accurate temperature of the saw during cutting. The sensor can be used for measuring the rate of heating to cooling over time which can be used as a monitoring system to detect if there is any issue in the system.

To clarify the inducing mechanism of kerf deviation caused by unsymmetrical set of the handsaw, we hypothesized that the moment on the bottom edge of the saw blade, which is generated by the unsymmetrical set on handsaw teeth, bends the saw blade and this deformation should be one factor of the kerf deviation. To verify this hypothesis, the bend of a saw blade was examined by experiment and by calculation. In the experiments, a model tooth was attached to an actual handsaw. In the calculations, a saw model with a rectangular prism as the model tooth was analyzed by the finite element method. Loads were applied on the model tooth or the rectangular prism. From both the experiments and the calculations, the following results were obtained: (1) the deformation of the handsaw was caused by the unsymmetrical set in the length direction and the height direction of the saw blade; (2) the deformation and the inclination of the blade was larger at the front part of the saw than at the butt part; and (3) comparing the saw handle fixing conditions, the kerf deviation in the sawing line was supposed to be larger in the free handle condition and that kerf deviation in the depth direction was larger in the fixed handle condition. Based on the above results, it is apparent that one of the kerf deviation mechanisms originated from unsymmetrical set on the saw teeth. ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the effect of rotation speed and vibration response of a circular saw on the sawing process of Douglas-fir wood. An idling test was conducted on a guided circular saw to determine its stable operation speeds and vibration behavior. Short-time Fourier transform analysis was performed on saw idling test data, and variation of excited frequencies of the blade as a function of rotation speed was obtained. The saw blade critical speeds and the rotation speeds that correspond to saw flutter instability were identified. Then experimental cutting tests were conducted at different cutting conditions and the effect of rotation speed and saw vibration response on cutting power consumption and sawing accuracy was investigated. The results showed that conducting a saw idling test and vibration response analysis can identify the saw critical and flutter speeds, which is essential for identifying the optimum rotation speed of circular saw. There was a significant increase in power consumption when cutting at super-critical and super-flutter speed. The effect of rotation speed on sawing accuracy is complex and nonlinear. This effect interacts with feed speed, which makes it difficult to generalize sawing accuracy versus rotation speed in the circular sawing process.  相似文献

This paper reports on the performance of coated carbide tools in turning wood-chip cement board. The coating materials studied were titanium carbonitride (TiCN), titanium nitride (TiN), chromium nitride (CrN), and titanium nitride/aluminum nitride (TiN/AlN), which were synthesized on the P30 carbide substrate. The aim is to investigate the effect of coating materials and cutting speeds on the wear characteristics of the coated carbide tools. Cutting tests were performed when turning wood-chip cement board at cutting speeds of 30, 40, 50 and 60 m/s, a depth of cut of 1mm, and a feed of 0.05 mm/rev. The results of the study show that the coated carbide tools provided better performance than the P30 carbide tool, especially in terms of reducing the progression of the wear rate and clearance wear. The TiN/AlN-coated carbide tool showed the smallest increase in both wear rate and clearance wear with an increase in cutting speed and had the longest tool life among the coated carbide tools investigated. Though the TiCN-coated carbide tool was observed to have a low wear rate and low clearance wear for cutting speeds of 30 and 40m/s, when the cutting speeds were >50m/s its wear rate and clearance wear were almost the same as those of CrN-and TiN-coated carbide tools, which had high values for these parameters.Part of this paper was presented at the 21st IUFRO World Congress, August 2000, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia  相似文献

The sound pressure level of differently designed circular saw blades were investigated during idling. Nine blade samples were used: three differently designed blade bodies (without slots, with four radial slots, and with four slots with copper cork), each with three diameters (260,280, and 300 mm). The sound pressure level was measured at different rotational frequencies ranging from 25 to 65 rps in increments of 1 rps. Rubber damping rings 80mm in diameter and 0.3 mm thick were placed between the saw blade and the collars, and the emitted noise was measured. Because of the whistling sound the blades without slots emitted high sound pressure levels. There were no significant changes when rubber damping rings were used. The use of rubber damping rings on the samples with radial slots eliminates the whistling noise. The saws with copper corks did not emit a whistling noise at all, and their aerodynamic noise was 2–3 dB (A) lower than the aerodynamic noise of the saws with radial slots. The relation between sound pressure emitted by the damped idling saw and peripheral velocity can be described by the power function with the exponent value between 4.8 and 5.2.Part of this report was presented at the 14th International Wood Machining Seminar, Epinal, France, September 1999  相似文献

This paper presents an on-line method for detecting damaged teeth in the bandsaw using acoustic emission (AE) signal energy. The method is based on an analysis of differences in AE energies generated by normal and damaged teeth during sawing. Because of the difference in the amount of sawing, the AE energy was low for sawing by the damaged tooth and high for sawing by the normal tooth immediately after the damaged tooth. The ratio of AE energy for two successive teeth — a normal tooth immediately following a damaged tooth — was much greater than 1, whereas the ratio of AE energy for two successive normal teeth was close to 1. The results demonstrate that the technique using the AE energy ratio for two successive teeth is effective for on-line detection of damaged bandsaw teeth.Part of this paper was presented at the 9th Annual Meeting of the Chugoku Skikoku Branch of the Japan Wood Research Society, Tottori, October 1997  相似文献

Published research on the wear processes of cemented tungsten carbide tools used for machining reconstituted wood products was reviewed, and the current state of knowledge in this area was evaluated. Underlying assumptions and conclusions regarding high-temperature oxidation/corrosion wear during machining were examined in view of known reaction kinetics of cemented tungsten carbide alloys in oxidative and corrosive environments at temperatures that may occur at the cutting edge. This examination indicated that some wear mechanisms other than high-temperature oxidation/corrosion are likely to be rate-controlling when machining reconstituted wood products such as particleboard and fiberboard.
