Abstract

Scirrhía pini Funk & Parker (Dothistroma septospora (Dorog.) Morelet) is reported for the first time from Ecuador. Dothistroma needle blight was recorded on Pinus radiata in both nurseries and plantations (2–9 years old), from various high altitude localities in the Sierra. Infection was particularly severe in plantations situated between 2500–3000 m a.s.l. Pinus patula showed a resistant reaction to the fungus as did some older P. radiata trees. Several associated fungi are also listed together with those facultative fungal pathogens isolated from necrotic needles and stem cankers.  相似文献

Dothistroma needle blight (DNB) is a serious disease of the Pinaceae, mainly Pinus species, caused by the fungi Dothistroma septosporum and D. pini. Both species are regarded as invasive forest pathogens worldwide, with rising incidence in central and northern Europe over the last three decades. In this work, 29 sites were investigated between 2013 and 2015 in south-western Turkey. Morphological examination of needles confirmed DNB infection (i.e., Dothistroma conidiospores observed) at 18 sites, and a total of 108 Dothistroma sp. isolates were obtained from 11 of the sites. Host age seemed to be an important factor in both occurrence and severity of DNB in Pinus brutia forests. Continuous rainy days, especially in December, may increase severity of disease; however, extreme rain events may reduce available conidiospores on plant tissues or in the air. Species-specific mating type primers showed that all isolates were D. septosporum; D. pini was not detected. The mating type ratio was close to 1:1, indicating sexual recombination was occurring. Eleven microsatellite markers revealed 59 unique multilocus haplotypes (MLHs) among the 73 isolates originating from different conidiomata. The majority of MLHs were represented by a single isolate (n = 52) and only one MLH was shared between two localities. Analyses showed high genetic diversity, isolation-by-distance, and clear population clusters. These findings suggest that D. septosporum is well established in south-western Turkey and is probably not a recent introduction.  相似文献

Understanding the effects of interspecific competition on long‐term growth of plantation forestry crops is critical to forest management decisions around methods used for weed control. A series of permanent sample plots (31) incorporating trees maintained either weedy or weed‐free until canopy closure were established across New Zealand between 2000 and 2002. We used the age shift method to characterise growth responses of Pinus radiata, in New Zealand, to interspecific competition over the first third of a typical rotation. Eight years after planting, age shifts between treatments ranged between ?0.60 years and +3.07 years. On average, the age shift due to weed control increased from 0.62 to 0.96 years between 4 and 8 years of age. This was due to divergent tree growth between weedy and weed‐free plots at 55% of the sites, while at 32% and 13% of sites, respectively, differences between treatments remained constant or decreased beyond age 4 years. The magnitude of the age shift was found to be related to the type of weed dominating early interspecific competition, with woody weeds associated with significantly greater age shifts. Continued divergence in tree growth between weedy and weed‐free treatments up to 8 years after planting at the majority of sites was an unexpected result and contrasts with previous literature. In situations where growth divergence continues beyond 2 years, managers should consider continued treatment of weeds to mitigate the detrimental impacts of on‐going competition.  相似文献

Survival of Fusarium circinatum in colonized pine needles and wood pieces was measured. Naturally colonized branches and their needles were cut into small pieces and placed in mesh bags on the soil surface at two locations in northern Spain. Pieces were recovered periodically, cultured on a selective medium, and microscopically examined to identify the species. After 507 days, F. circinatum was recovered from 0 to 27% of the wood pieces and from none of the needles. After 858 days, F. circinatum was not recovered from any wood pieces but was found to be present on 1 out of 220 needle pieces analysed. Artificially infested pieces of wood and needles were placed on 5‐mm sieved soil either in plastic boxes at controlled temperature or in mesh bags under field conditions. No survival was recorded after 794 days under field conditions and the decline over time occurred more rapidly in inoculated pieces under field conditions. Soil was also infested with conidia of F. circinatum and survival was estimated. No conidia were recovered after 224 days at 30 °C, although at 20 and 5 °C the respective populations were 20 and 3700 cfu/g soil. Fusarium circinatum was not recovered from 2‐mm‐sieved soil collected under pitch canker‐infected pines. Results indicate that branch segments and needles naturally colonized by F. circinatum will not be a potential source of inoculum, and the fungus in soil is not likely to contribute to reinfection of new plantations after 2 years.  相似文献

The threat from pests and pathogens to native and commercially planted forest trees is unprecedented and expected to increase under climate change. The degree to which forests respond to threats from pathogens depends on their adaptive capacity, which is determined largely by genetically controlled variation in susceptibility of the individual trees within them and the heritability and evolvability of this trait. The most significant current threat to the economically and ecologically important species Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) is dothistroma needle blight (DNB), caused by the foliar pathogen Dothistroma septosporum. A progeny‐population trial of 4‐year‐old Scots pine trees, comprising six populations from native Caledonian pinewoods each with three to five families in seven blocks, was artificially inoculated using a single isolate of D. septosporum. Susceptibility to D. septosporum, assessed as the percentage of non‐green needles, was measured regularly over a period of 61 days following inoculation, during which plants were maintained in conditions ideal for DNB development (warm; high humidity; high leaf wetness). There were significant differences in susceptibility to D. septosporum among families indicating that variation in this trait is heritable, with high estimates of narrow‐sense heritability (0.38–0.75) and evolvability (genetic coefficient of variation, 23.47). It is concluded that native Scots pine populations contain sufficient genetic diversity to evolve lower susceptibility to D. septosporum through natural selection in response to increased prevalence of this pathogen.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Planting material with superior resistance to Armillaria root disease was identified in a field trial established to investigate variation in Armillaria infection among different Pinus radiata nursery stock types. At stand age 6.4 years, total infection incidence, mortality, and degree of root collar girdling by Armillaria spp. were all significantly lower among trees derived from both rooted stool bed cuttings (physiological age 1 to 3 years) and rooted field cuttings (physiological age 3 to 6 years) than among those grown from seedlings. Cutting types did not differ significantly from one another. No significant differences were found between stock types in stem diameter, but trees from stool bed cuttings were significantly taller than seedling trees. Whether these differences remain detectable later in the rotation, initial results suggest that it may be advantageous to plant robust stock, of either cuttings or seedlings, on Armillaria-infested sites. The incidence of infection in living, green-crowned trees was unevenly distributed across the trial site, and was greater nearer to trees killed by Armillaria spp. than further away (significant within a radius of 10 m). By mapping visible Armillaria-caused mortality prior to thinning, it may be possible to delineate areas with a higher incidence of concealed chronic infection, thus defining infested sites for postharvest treatment.  相似文献

Pitch canker, caused by the fungus Fusarium circinatum , is a disease affecting many pine tree species. In California, Pinus radiata (Monterey pine) is the principal pine host affected by pitch canker. This investigation into factors affecting infection frequency by F. circinatum of P. radiata examined the influence of: (i) wound size; (ii) relative humidity; (iii) time of inoculation; (iv) inoculum density; and (v) wound age. Wounded branches sustained significantly more infections when large-diameter (1·6 mm) rather than small-diameter (0·5 mm) wounds were made. Infection frequencies tended to be higher at 100% RH than at ambient humidity, although these differences were not statistically significant. Infection frequencies were significantly higher on branches inoculated after 17·00 h than on branches inoculated before noon. Infection frequencies were significantly higher for wounded branches spray-inoculated with 5 × 107 rather than 1 × 107 spores mL−1. Infection frequencies of pruning wounds declined as wounds aged.  相似文献

During the course of the past three years, a new disease of Pinus radiata , referred to as 'Daño Foliar del Pino' (DFP) has appeared in the Arauco province of Chile and subsequently spread to other areas. The disease is typified by needle infections, exudation of resin at the bases of the needle brachyblasts and, in younger trees, necrotic lesions in the cambium, which eventually girdle the branches. The disease causes the death of young seedlings and mature trees can also succumb after a few years of successive infection, probably hastened by opportunistic fungi such as Diplodia pinea . Isolations on selective medium for Phytophthora spp. led to the consistent isolation of a Phytophthora sp. from needle tissue. DNA sequence comparisons for the ITS rDNA and cox II gene regions, and morphological observation showed that this oomycete represents a previously undescribed species for which the name Phytophthora pinifolia sp. nov. is provided. This new species is characterized by unbranched sporangiophores, and non-papillate, sub-globose to ovoid sporangia that are occasionally free from the sporangiophore with medium length pedicels. Despite using a number of oospore inducing techniques, oogonia/antheridia were not observed in isolates of P. pinifolia . Pathogenicity trials with P. pinifolia showed that it is pathogenic to P. radiata and causes rapid death of the succulent apical parts of young plants. Phytophthora pinifolia is the first Phytophthora known to be associated with needles and shoots of a Pinus sp. and its aerial habit is well matched with the occurrence and symptoms of DFP in Chile.  相似文献

The development of a method which reliably estimates the loss for any given level of disease is a prerequisite to the development of a rational disease control program. Such a method was developed between 1953-1970 using results from field experiments; it led to a multiple regression equation in which the yield loss is the dependent variable. The decrease in marketable tubers because of their reduced size was also considered. Two herbicides used for post‐plant weed control in commercial forests in New Zealand, terbuthylazine and hexazinone, are not endorsed for use on land certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). These herbicides are effective for controlling competitive woody weeds, such as Cytisus scoparius (broom). To investigate the potential of non‐residual, alternative herbicides for the control of C. scoparius after planting, a range of treatments were implemented at two trials. The trials were established in newly planted Pinus radiata plantations where C. scoparius dominated. The objectives were to (i) optimise application rates of alternative herbicides and compare their efficacy to current practice and (ii) identify if treatment efficacy varied across sites. Treatments at each site included weedy and weed‐free controls, current practice using terbuthylazine and hexazinone, applied as both spot treatment and broadcast application, and a range of new treatments consisting of different dosage combinations of clopyralid, triclopyr and picloram. Broadcast application of the clopyralid, triclopyr and picloram mixture showed increasing weed‐control efficacy against C. scoparius with increasing dose rate, resulting in increased tree volume. Broadcast application of the clopyralid, triclopyr and picloram mixture at 75% or 100% of a typical industry use rate (100% industry rate includes clopyralid 1.5 kg a.i. ha?1, triclopyr 0.15 kg a.i. ha?1 and picloram 0.05 kg a.i. ha?1) achieved greatest tree volume by year four with tree volumes exceeding that obtained using the operational spot treatment with terbuthylazine and hexazinone. Treatment rankings were similar between locations. The result supports the use of clopyralid, triclopyr and picloram to control C. scoparius during the first year of P. radiata establishment.  相似文献

The occurrence and distribution of Dothistroma needle blight (DNB) on Pinus mugo was studied in 2014–2015 around the Slovakia. In total, 42 localities were investigated both native and planted ones. Symptoms of DNB were observed on 35 localities only on planted shrubs. All these 35 localities are new P. mugo DNB stands. No DNB symptoms were observed in natural and naturally regenerated plantations. DNA was extracted from a total of 236 isolates and eight needle samples. Based on the ITS-rDNA comparisons and using species specific primers, both pathogenic Dothistroma species were detected: D. septosporum and D. pini. Isolates of D. septosporum had ITS sequences identical to D. septosporum from Europe and both mating types were identified with slight predominance of MAT2. The ratio of D. septosporum mating types varies significantly between sites, ranging from an equal proportion of each mating type to single mating type populations. D. pini ITS sequence grouped with D. pini from Ukraine, Russia and Switzerland and only MAT2 was found.  相似文献

Sphaeropsis sapinea was repeatedly isolated in Sardinia from symptomatic samples of the upper part of declining pine (Pinus radiata) plants. Observed symptoms mainly consisted of foliage chlorosis, drying of needles and cankers on branches. The S. sapinea strains were shown to produce phytotoxic metabolites in culture filtrates. Three metabolites were isolated for the first time from this fungus and identified by their spectroscopic and optical properties as R-(−)-mellein, (3R,4R)-4-hydroxymellein and (3R,4S)-4-hydroxymellein. When assayed for phytotoxic and antifungal activities on host and non-host plants and on some phytopathogenic fungi, the R-(−)-mellein showed significant activity, while the other two 3,4-dihydroisocoumarins showed only a synergic activity in both tests.  相似文献

Ascospores and conidia released into the air were recorded around plots on which garlic debris infected by Stemphylium vesicarium were fixed onto the soil surface. Symptoms in garlic trap plots located in the vicinity of infected debris, started in March and developed during April–May to reach disease incidence close to 100%, final disease severity values being lower in 1993 and 1995 than in 1994 and 1996. Whereas daily concentrations of ascospores were rather erratic, with 30% of captures between 0 and 6 h, conidia showed a daily periodicity with highest concentrations between 12 and 18 h, with a pronounced peak between 14 and 16 h, and lowest values at night. Ascospore release occurred mainly in February and March. It coincided with rainfall periods, 14 h with vapour pressure deficit 5 mb and solar radiation <145 W m–2 on the current day of the capture. In contrast, greatest captures of conidia started in late April and were prevalent in May, and were associated with rainfall in days previous to the capture in which rather high temperature occurred and solar radiation was 109–345 W m–2. Among the weather variables considered, rainfall appeared directly related to the aerial concentration of ascospores and conidia. The role of relative humidity seemed essential when rainfall did not occur. There was a relationship between conidia concentration in the air and number of hours with temperature in the range 12–21 °C. Ascospore production was not essential for infections to take place, since primary infection from conidia may occur and disease can develop from them readily.  相似文献

BACKGROUND

Ethanedinitrile (EDN) is a fumigant being commercialized worldwide as an alternative phytosanitary treatment to methyl bromide (MB) for forest products. The penetration characteristics of MB and EDN were measured through the bark of wooden blocks (100 × 100 × 50 mm) cut from the upper (average bark thickness 5 ± 2 mm) and lower (average bark thickness 25 ± 5 mm) trunk of recently felled pine (Pinus radiata D.Don) trees. Doses of 48 g m−3 MB and 50 g m−3 EDN were applied to chambers at 10 and 20°C for 10 h.

RESULTS

Penetration of MB was influenced by the interaction between fumigation time and temperature, with concentrations increasing at a higher rate at 20°C compared with at 10°C. After 10 h, an average concentration of 8.05 ± 0.89 g m−3 had penetrated the bark of log sections at 20°C, whereas 5.20 ± 0.89 g m−3 was measured at 10°C. By contrast, the factors examined in this study did not significantly impact the penetration of EDN. Concentration × time (CT) values for MB under the bark were 35.20 ± 2.30 g h m−3 at 10°C and 55.85 ± 9.58 g h m−3 at 20°C; whereas for EDN, CT values were 19.50 ± 6.80 g h m−3 at 10°C and 19.08 ± 4.10 g h m−3 at 20°C.

CONCLUSION

MB can achieve a higher concentration under the bark of log sections during simulated fumigations, but all of the factors examined affected the ability of MB to penetrate the bark of wooden blocks. By comparison, the penetration of EDN through the bark is more consistent than MB under laboratory conditions. © 2022 The Authors. 为揭示樟子松(Pinus sylvestrisvar.mongolica)人工林对微生态条件的改良,对比了樟子松林下与流沙土壤水热状况、理化性质和草本层群落特征。结果表明:①同流沙相比,樟子松林下表层0~20 cm土壤含水量增加,而深层土壤含水量减少,不同土层间含水量的分配差异增大。②林下土壤的比热变大,沙层升温减慢,保温能力提高。③樟子松林下表层具有明显的养分富集特性,表现出明显的层次性,表层(0~10 cm)土壤容重、有机质、全磷、水解氮、有效磷、电导率都显著高于下层(20~40 cm)和流沙表层(p<0.05),但其20 cm以下土壤养分非常低,与流沙相比并没有显著改变(p<0.05)。④从流沙到樟子松人工林整个沙漠化逆转的过程来看,林下草本层群落的盖度、物种丰富度、多样性指数、群落均匀度都在增大,而物种优势度在降低。研究认为,樟子松人工林加速了沙丘的固定,改善了表层土壤的理化性质,在早期促进了植被发育,但在林分郁闭之后,由于争夺光照、水分、养分,又对林下植被产生了影响。  相似文献

Onion bacterial blight, caused by Xanthomonas sp., is a potentially severe disease in several tropical and subtropical areas. Although little research has been undertaken on this pathosystem, seed transmission of the pathogen has been hypothesized. Because of an important bacterial microflora naturally associated with onion seeds, detection of the pathogen is difficult using non-selective agar media. A new semi-selective medium, whose selectivity was obtained by a combination of four antibiotics, was developed. The new NCTM1 medium contained (per liter) yeast extract 7g, peptone 7g, glucose 7g, agar 15g, neomycin 10mg, cephalexin 30mg, trimethoprime 3mg, pivmecillinam 100mg and propiconazole 20mg. Plating efficiencies, using 16 pure cultures of the pathogen, ranged from 79% to 142%, with an average of 110% compared to the basal medium. All onion Xanthomonas sp. strains from several countries grew on NCTM1 medium. The pathogen was repeatedly isolated using this medium from seed samples containing approximately 106 saprophytic bacteria per gram, as well as from symptomless plant material. Xanthomonas sp. was detected only in seeds originating from one infected seed production site. This is the first report of selective isolation of Xanthomonas sp. from onion seeds. NCTM1 medium should be a valuable tool to study the ecology and epidemiology of Xanthomonas sp. causing onion bacterial blight.  相似文献
