Bacterial wilt caused by Pseudomonas solanacearum, is a very serious disease of Eucalyptus in southern China, mainly in Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi provinces. It causes the death of seedlings and young trees and the mortality may exceed 90 percent in some sites. Susceptible species include E. grandis, E. urophylla, hybrids between the two and E. citriodora. In nursery and field trials with E. urophylla and field trial with E. grandis x E. urophylla inoculation of ectomycorrhizal fungi was found to reduce the incidence of the disease. Some fungal isolates were more effective than others.  相似文献

General principles in the community ecology of ectomycorrhizal fungi   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  

Introduction

Knowledge of the factors that determine ectomycorrhizal fungal community structure is essential in many areas of practical significance including conservation, habitat restoration, prevention or amelioration of species invasions, and the prediction of responses to climate change. With respect to these goals, however, community ecology, in general, and ectomycorrhizal fungal community ecology, in particular, have been rather disappointing.

Discussion

Indeed, some feel that community ecology is, at best, an esoteric discipline and, at worst, an inane one. But there is hope. As we apply what has been learned about other organisms concerning the relationships between functional traits and success (abundance), it may be possible to elucidate general principles that govern much of the structuring of ectomycorrhizal fungal communities.

Conclusion

A hierarchical model of ectomycorrhizal fungal community structure is presented that involves abiotic filtering of immigrant propagules based on functional traits, followed by interspecific competition as ameliorated by disturbance and habitat partitioning, the outcomes of which are dependent on functional traits.  相似文献

In order to discover which ectomycorrhizal-(ECM) fungi have better growth-promoting effects on poplars, cuttings from four poplar species were inoculated with nine species of ECM fungi by three methods. We investigated the status of mycorrhizal formation and the effects of these fungi on the growth of the poplars. The results show that Xrocomus chrysentero (Xc), Boletus edulis (Be), Pisolithus tinctorius (Pt) and Laccaria amethystea (La) formed clear ectomycorrhizal symbiosis with the poplar seedlings. Among these four ECM fungi, Xc had the greatest ability to develop mycorrhizae with all four poplar species. Be shows a greater ability to form mycorrhizae with Populus deltoides Bartr cv. ‘Lux’ (Poplar I-69). Pt and La had relatively weaker abilities of colonization. The other five ECM fungal species, i.e., Scleroderma luteus (Sl), Leccinum scabrum (Ls), Boletus speciosus (Bs), Calvatia craniiformis (Cc) and Rhizopogen luteous (Rl) could not easily form mycorrhizae with poplar seedlings grown in sterilized substrates, but could do so in non-sterilized soil. With the method of drilling and injecting liquid inoculum, a simple operation, the mycorrhizal infection rates were higher than with the other two methods, applying solid inoculum as fertilizer at the bottom of the pots and dipping roots in the inoculum slurry. P. simonii Carr. formed mycorrhizae with most of the nine ECM fungi. P. x euramericana (Dode) Guinier cv. ’san Martino’ (Poplar I-72) and P. deltoids Harvard x P. deltoids Lux (Poplar NL-351) had the highest compatibility with Pt. Poplar I-69 shows the highest compatibility with Xc. The study indicates that the optimal ECM fungi for poplars I-69, I-72 and NL-351 were Be, Xc and Pt, respectively. The optimal fungi for P. simonii Carr. were Xc and Be. Micropropagated plantlets of Eucalyptus tereticornis at the root initiation stage were inoculated in vitro with Amanita murina, Hysterangium incarceratum, Laccaria laccata, Pisolithus tinctorius (3 isolates), Scleroderma cepa and S. flavidum in order to select the most compatible ectomycorrhizal partner. H. incarceratum and the two Scleroderma species did not form mycorrhizas with E. tereticornis. Two local isolates of P. tinctorius formed significantly more mycorrhizas than the other isolates tested. Plantlets with mycorrhizas formed by one of the local isolates of P. tinctorius were transplanted to the nursery where their growth significantly exceeded that of non-mycorrhizal plants.  相似文献

A field experiment with artificial soil contamination by the heavy metals copper and nickel was established in Kola Peninsula, northern Russia. To study the effect of soil contamination by heavy metals without SO2 air pollution on the Scots pine trees growth the experiment was located outside the range of forest damage due to emissions from a copper–nickel smelter. Retardation in tree diameter growth over 15 years after contamination with 20 kg of metallurgical dust per 100 m2 plot was 54%, 10 kg 27%, 5 kg 16% and 2.5 kg 7%, respectively, compared with growth in control plots. Thus, decreasing Scots pine growth due to heavy metal pollution was demonstrated.  相似文献

SO2 and NOx are main primary pollutants which often occur together in Europe. In three experiments small spruce trees were exposed to SO2 or to SO2 + NO2 in controlled environmental conditions. A polymeric coating (spodnam), based on a natural terpenoid compound was applied to half the trees fumigated in each experiment and the influence of this material on the sensitivity to pollutant injury was observed. Picea abies and Picea rubens (Norway and Red spruce) were more sensitive than Picea sitchensis (Sitka spruce) to acute damage from 8000 ppb SO2 experienced for 12-h periods during dormancy. A single application of 15% (ν/ν) of the polymeric coating substantially decreased the extent of acute injury in all three species. Dormant P. sitchensis fumigated with 250 ppb SO2 and SO2 + NO2 also showed less pollutant injury at the end of a 2-month fumigation when 5% (ν/ν) spodman had been applied. Exposure of coated and uncoated seedlings of P. sitchensis to 400 ppb SO2 during growth in 8-h and 16-h photoperiods confirmed the strong protective effect of a 15% (ν/ν) application. After 6 weeks in 16-h photoperiods, the coated plants grown in SO2 had larger dry weights than uncoated plants in SO2. Spodnam also caused decreases of dry weight which were greater in the 8-h daylength, indicating that growth rate was important in determining the physiological cost of having an additional coating over the foliage. Further analysis of the effects of the coating on plant growth and of its protective function against air pollutants are required to determine whether application would be beneficial in forest areas were large concentrations of gaseous air pollutants occur. The timing, concentration and degree of coverage achieved during application would influence the impact of this material; and the benefit gained would depend on the severity of pollutant damage and on the way in which spodnam effects other factors which influence growth.  相似文献

对苏州市七子山垃圾填埋场所生长的龙葵、商陆、繁缕、无芒稗、千里光、绿穗苋和山莴苣等7种植物吸收和积累Mn,Zn,Pb,Cd,Cr和Ni等6种重金属元素的研究发现,千里光、绿穗苋、繁缕、龙葵和山莴苣对重金属元素的吸收、富集能力较大,可确定为重金属元素的耐性植物,可聚为一类,因此可以考虑将这5种植物应用于垃圾填埋场的重金属污染冶理中。  相似文献

Summary The abilities of 15 coniferous barks for removing toxic heavy metal ions were investigated. The barks considerably varied in the adsorption ability to each metal ion. Of the barks tested, high adsorption ability for heavy metal ions was found inPicea abies (Norway spruce). Equilibrium experiments usingP. jezoensis (Yezo spruce) bark showed that the adsorption of Cd2+ was greatly affected by the pH of solution and the initial Cd2+ concentration in solution. The adsorption of Cd2+ byP. jezoensis bark followed Freundlich isotherm in the concentration range 10–330 mg Cd2+/L. The continuous column experiments usingP. jezoensis bark indicated that the packing had retained 10.1–14.2 mg Cd2+/g adsorbent until the column broke through.  相似文献

Retranslocation of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe, Zn, Cu and Ni within the foliage of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) was studied during autumnal needle senescence along a heavy-metal pollution gradient in western Finland. The stands were located at distances of 0.5 (Har 0.5), 4 (Har 4) and 8 km (Har 8) to the southeast of a copper-nickel smelter at Harjavalta. A background study stand was located at H?meenkangas (H?m), 60 km northeast of the smelter. During needle senescence, the mobile nutrients N, P and K decreased by 67-88% and needle dry mass decreased by 31-43%. Retranslocation of P and K was less efficient in the stand nearest the smelter (Har 0.5) than in the other stands. During needle senescence at stand Har 0.5, heavy metal content either decreased slightly (Zn, Ni) or increased (Fe, Cu), whereas in the background study stand, retranslocation efficiency of Cu was 75%. Net throughfall (the amount of a nutrient in throughfall minus the amount in open precipitation) was higher in stand Har 0.5 than in stand Har 8 for all of the elements measured, except N and P which were intercepted by the canopy. In stand Har 8, deposition of S, Cu and Ni was intercepted by the canopy, and net throughfall of Fe and Zn was very low. In contrast, S and heavy metal contents of net throughfall in stand Har 0.5 were greater than the decrease in these elements in the needles indicating that accumulation on needle surfaces and subsequent wash-off accounted for a major part of the fluxes. Furthermore, the Cu content in net throughfall during the senescence period was higher than the original Cu content of the needles in July, providing additional evidence that much of the needle Cu content was comprised of dry deposits of Cu on the needle surface.  相似文献

Japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora) seedlings taken from a nursery were grown in liquid culture with all roots entirely submerged in water. The aims of the present study were to observe the reactions of preformed ectomycorrhizae to liquid culture and to examine new infections by ectomycorrhizal fungi on newly formed root tips in liquid culture. Inoculation levels were controlled by trimming the ectomycorrhizal roots to one of three selected root lengths. The results showed that the mantles of pre-formed ectomycorrhizae were lost during the 8 weeks of the liquid culture and that these preformed root tips became blackish and wrinkled, but Hartig nets remained in these blackish root tips. On the newly formed lateral root tips, no ectomycorrhizal mantles were formed, although Hartig nets were found. In addition, the level of inoculum did not affect the frequency of Hartig nets in newly formed root tips, suggesting that the density of inoculum was more important than the amount of inoculum for new infection. In conclusion, ectomycorrhizal fungi endured and infected new roots while submerged; however, only Hartig nets were formed and not mantles.  相似文献

该文调查了四川乐山沙湾、眉山丹棱巨桉人工林下外生菌根菌土,测定了土壤养分情况。结果表明:两地所采集的菌根土的理化指标与对照相比有明显变化,样地Ⅰ菌根土pH值显著高于对照土,有机质含量与对照相比并不显著,样地ⅡpH值显著低于对照,而有机质含量明显高于对照;两样地菌根土的全N、水解N、全P和有效P含量均显著高于对照;大孢硬皮马勃的菌根土全K含量与对照相比并不显著,彩色豆马勃和马勃状硬皮马勃的菌根土全K含量均显著低于对照(P〈0.05);样地Ⅰ菌根土速效K含量与对照差异不显著,样地Ⅱ菌根土速效K含量显著低于对照。由此可见,巨桉外生菌根真菌对提高巨桉人工林的土壤肥力,维护人工林地力具有一定作用。  相似文献

The flow of labeled carbon in ectomycorrhizal and non-ectomycorrhizal seedlings of Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi Sarg.) and its F1 hybrid (Larix gmelinii Rupr. x L. kaempferi) was studied. Larch seedlings were grown in a greenhouse for 110 days with larch forest soil (FM) or Suillus grevillei (SM) inoculum, or in the absence of ectomycorrhizal fungi (NM). Shoots of colonized and NM seedlings were exposed to a pulse of 14CO2 for 1 h under natural light. Seedlings were harvested following 0, 6 and 24 h of exposure to 14CO2. At the final harvest, SM seedlings of Japanese larch and hybrid larch allocated 2.6 and 2.5% more 14C, respectively, to roots than NM seedlings. In contrast, FM seedlings of Japanese larch and hybrid larch allocated 6.5 and 18.0% more 14C, respectively, to the stem than NM seedlings. Of the total 14C detected in needle, stem and root fractions, FM and SM seedlings allocated a greater proportion than NM seedlings, perhaps because FM and SM seedlings had significantly (P < 0.05) higher photosynthetic rates than NM seedlings. As a result, FM and SM seedlings had greater dry masses than NM seedlings. Concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus in FM and SM seedlings were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than in NM seedlings, as was stomatal conductance.  相似文献

The essential oils of eighteen Egyptian plants were extracted by hydrodistillation and their chemical compositions were analyzed by GC-MS. The antifungal activity of the isolated oils was evaluated against two wood decay fungi Hexagonia apiaria and Ganoderma lucidum in vitro. The essential oil of Artemisia monosperma showed the highest inhibitory effect against H. apiaria (EC50 = 31 mg L?1) and G. lucidum (EC50 = 53 mg L?1). The results of in vitro tests indicated that the essential oils of Cupressus sempervirens, Citrus limon, Thuja occidentalis, Schinus molle, A. monosperma and Pelargonium graveolens were the most potent inhibitors against both fungi. These six oils caused significant reduction of wood mass loss of Scots pine sapwood after 6 weeks of fungal exposure. The oil of C. limon revealed the highest reduction of wood mass loss caused by H. apiaria, while A. monosperma oil displayed the highest reduction of wood loss caused by G. lucidum. These results support the potential use of essential oils for wood protection against decay fungi.  相似文献

Modified hardwood sawdust as adsorbent of heavy metal ions from water   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The sawdust of oak and black locust hardwood was found to have good adsorption capacities for heavy metal ions. The leaching of coloured organic matters during the adsorption can be prevented by each of the following pre-treatments of adsorbents: with formaldehyde in acidic medium, with sodium hydroxide solution after formaldehyde treatment, or with sodium hydroxide only. The studies indicated that the leaching of coloured matters from modified hardwood sawdust was less than that from unmodified hardwood sawdust, namely between 70 and 94%, dependent on wood species and the method of modification. At the same time, adsorption capacities of modified adsorbents were higher than unmodified adsorbents when sodium hydroxide was applied for modification. When formaldehyde was applied for modification, the adsorption capacities of adsorbents remained unchanged. Only the application of sodium hydroxide was recommended for modification of hardwood sawdust.  相似文献

Pinus greggii Engelm. ex Parl. is an endemic pine of Mexico with notorious adaptability to eroded, shallow and poor soils. It is widely used in reforestation programmes worldwide. The purpose of the present study is to develop an ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECM) treatment with different native ectomycorrhizal fungal species (collected in P. greggii and Abies vejarii stands) to improve seedling survival of P. greggii. Four-month-old P. greggii var. greggii seedlings were inoculated with ground fruiting bodies of the ECM species Astraeus spp., Boletus barrowsii, Geastrum minimum, Lactarius deliciosus var. deterrimus, Russula cf. atroglauca, Russula spp., Suillus caerulescens, as well as a mixture of three species (Russula sp., R. lutea and L. deliciosus) and soil litter with mycelium from the base of a fruiting body of L. deliciosus. Agronomic variables, and total phosphorous and glucosamine contents were measured in P. greggii seedlings. Inoculated treatments with B. barrowsii, Geastrum minimum and S. caerulescens showed increases in seedling height and basal diameter as well as dry shoot biomass compared with those of the control plants. Geastrum minimum, B. barrowsii and R. xerampelina significantly increased values of dry weight compared with that of the control. Inoculation of soil litter from the base of a fruiting body of L. deliciosus induced the maximum glucosamine response (40.2 mg g?1 of dry root biomass). Geastrum minimum, a fungus collected in P. greggii stands, enhanced basal diameter of pine seedlings in the nursery. Fungal species B. barrowsii, Suillus caerulescens, Russula cf. atroglauca and Russula spp. from the Abies forest improved plant quality in terms of the Dickson quality index and root and shoot biomass, compared with those of the control.  相似文献
