1. Two environmentally‐controlled houses, one set at constant 21°C (low temperature, LT) and the other set at diurnally cycling 21°C to 30°C (high temperature, HT), and two dietary energy concentrations of 13 MJ ME/kg (low energy, LE) and 13.8 MJ ME/kg (high energy, HE) were used to study nitrogen and energy retention in the edible carcase of male and female broilers slaughtered at 34 and 54 days.

2. Carcase nitrogen was higher in males than in females, and in birds reared at LT than in those reared at HT.

3. Birds at LT and on HE diet, regardless of sex, retained more energy as fat in their carcases than those at HT and on LE diet respectively.

4. Maintenance energy requirement averaged 6.70, 7.67, 7.43 and 9.01 kJ per g metabolic body size (kJ/gW 0.66) for broilers at HT and LT up to 34 d and at HT and LT up to 54 d, respectively.

5. There was a similar increase with age in the energy requirement for growth but with requirements of broilers at LT consistently lower than for those at HT.  相似文献

1. A total of 2560 male and female Ross broilers were raised to 42 days of age in a 2 × 2 treatment factorial arrangement experiment to investigate the influence of different degrees of physical activity and dietary energy on broiler performance, abdominal fat content, carcase yield and sensory quality.

2. Vertical fans were used to force the treatment birds to walk 3 to 4 times as far as the normal activity birds; birds were fed a normal and a high energy diet (12.55 compared with 13.81 MJ ME/kg) with the same energy/protein, energy/lysine and energy/methionine + cystine ratios.

3. High activity birds had greater body weight ( + 4.1%), food intake ( + 5.1%) and ME intake ( + 5.1%) than normal activity birds. Birds receiving high energy diet had a lower food conversion and food intake than birds receiving normal energy diet. There were no significant differences in body weight or ME intake between birds with different diets.

4. Slaughter yields, both absolute and relative to live body weight, were affected by activity or dietary energy to varying degrees. Breast meat was increased with more activity. The absolute weight of abdominal fat was independent of activity and in males the relative weight of abdominal fat was decreased in high activity birds.

5. Different degrees of activity and dietary energy had only minor influences on broilers' sensory quality.  相似文献

Three isonitrogenous starter (230 g/kg) and three finisher diets (200 g/kg) were formulated to contain 10.78, 12.78 and 14.78 MJ AME/kg and fed to 1512 male and female broilers such that there were 9 treatment combinations. Birds fed the low-energy starter diet were significantly lighter (P less than 0.05) and their carcases contained proportionally less abdominal fat and total carcase fat at 24 d of age. This effect remained until 49 d of age irrespective of the finisher diet fed. The energy content of the finisher diet had no significant effect on bodyweight but the proportion of abdominal fat and total carcase fat deposited was lower for birds fed the low-energy finisher.  相似文献

The ability of the broiler chicken to metabolise energy and to digest and absorb amino acids increased from 30 to 50 d of age. Although sex had no major effect on metabolisable energy or amino acid digestibilities at these ages, the influence of environmental temperature on amino acid digestibilities appeared to be sex-related, there being decreased digestibilities of most amino acids at higher temperatures in female but not male birds.  相似文献

1. The aim of our study was to analyse the effect of genotype (label and standard), sex and rearing temperature (simulating daily outdoor in the summer or winter) on the carcase and meat quality of guinea fowl. Using 20 animals per treatment, slaughtered at 96 d of age we measured the breast angle and the thickness of the skin on the wing membrane. Carcases were weighed and cut into parts according to a standardised procedure to determine the percentages of abdominal fat, breasts, wings and thighs with shanks. 2. At slaughter, standard guinea fowl were heavier than label guinea fowl and for both genotypes, the females were heavier than the males (+5.6%). The mean value of breast angle was 85 degrees. This value was significantly higher for the standard guinea fowls and for the females of both genotypes compared with males. Thus, female carcases, particularly standard females, were more compact. The skin was thicker for the standard guinea fowls (0.84 mm vs 0.77 mm) which could be due to more subcutaneous fat. 3. Carcase yield was higher for the males (68.7% vs 68.2%). The percentage of abdominal fat was higher for the standard guinea fowls (2.8% vs 2.4%) and for the females of both genotypes compared with males. The label guinea fowls had higher yields of breasts and thighs with shanks. For both lines, the breast and thigh meat of females was judged more tender and less stringy. 4. Low rearing temperature decreased growth performance but had no significant effect on carcase quality.  相似文献

1. Male broilers were reared in individual cages from 23 to 44 d of age. The effect of 2 temperatures (22° and 32°C) and 2 crude protein (CP) levels (160 and 200 g/kg) were studied. The low protein diet was supplemented with lysine, methionine, arginine, threonine and valine in order to meet requirements.

2. At 22°C, a reduced CP content did not affect growth rate and breast muscle but slightly increased adiposity and food to gain ratio (FCR). Water consumption was reduced.

3. High temperature reduced growth rate and absolute and proportional breast muscle weight, and increased adiposity and FCR. These effects were more pronounced with the low CP diet. Water consumption was also reduced.

4. It was concluded that reducing CP content did not seem a good way to help broilers to withstand hot conditions. This experiment suggests that amino acids other than lysine, methionine and cystine are probably involved in the detrimental effect of high temperature.  相似文献

1. Broiler chickens were fed 60–100% of recommended energy intakes to study the effects of energy restriction on protein and fat retention.

2. At an energy retention of 179 kJ/kg W 0·75 d, only protein was retained. At higher energy intakes, each increment in retention had a rather constant composition: about 85% energy in fat and 15% in protein. At lower energy intakes body fat was mobilised whereas protein was deposited.

3. The efficiencies of energy retention in protein and fat were estimated to be 0·66 and 0·86 respectively.

4. The rather constant composition of additional retained energy after additional energy supply provides an explanation for a linear relationship between energy intake and energy retention.  相似文献

1. Male and female broiler chickens (144 in total) were given diets supplemented with clenbuterol (CB) at 0 (control) and at 1 mg/kg between 28 and 49 d of age to study the effect of CB on growth, carcase and skeletal muscle.

2. CB improved growth in males by increasing daily weight gain and final live weight and by lowering food conversion ratio. In females it changed the carcase composition by reducing abdominal fat pad and by increasing the proportion of protein. Consequently, carcase protein gain was increased in both sexes (11% and 16%, respectively).

3. Skeletal muscle weights were enhanced by between 6% and 22%. Muscle fibre diameters were increased in extensor hallucis longus (EHL) but not in gastrocnemius (GAS) muscle. This increase was more pronounced in females. EHL total muscle fibre number remained unchanged. The proportion of fast‐twitch glycolytic fibres was increased at the expense of fast‐twitch oxidative fibres in males only. Nuclear/cytoplasm and DNA/protein ratios tended to be decreased by CB.

4. From the elevated EHL muscle RNA/DNA, unchanged protein/RNA and translation activity it is suggested that CB stimulated protein synthesis at the pretranslational level. Reduced protein degradation is deduced from decreased neutral calcium‐dependent proteolytic activity.

5. It is concluded that broiler chickens respond to long‐term CB treatment as has been shown in various mammals. However, the sex‐specific response in growth, carcase composition and skeletal muscle cellularity is more clearly apparent in broiler chickens.  相似文献

1. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of dietary threonine (Thr) and crude protein (CP) in maize-soybean meal based diets on the growth performance, carcase traits and meat composition of broiler chickens and to determine the dietary Thr requirement for optimum performance (weight gain and feed conversion efficiency (FCE)) at 0 to 3 weeks and 3 to 6 weeks of age. 2. Two basal diets that differed in CP (191.3 or 179.7 and 176.7 or 165.4 g/kg at 0 to 3 and 3 to 6 weeks, respectively) were formulated to have identical contents of Thr (6.0 and 5.4 g/kg), energy (12.97 and 13.39 MJ ME/kg) and other essential amino acids except for Gly + Ser. Basal diets were supplemented with L-Thr from 0.6 to 1.8 g/kg in 0.6 g/kg increments. Broiler chicks (540) were randomly allocated to 9 dietary treatments with 6 replicates of 10 (5 female, 5 male) chicks. 3. A significant interaction between dietary CP and Thr was found for feed intake, body weight (BW) gain and FCE. Increasing Thr supplementation improved feed intake, BW gain and FCE, especially in high CP diets in both feeding periods. 4. Incremental increases in dietary Thr increased breast yield at both CP levels and drumstick yield only on high CP diets. The proportion of thigh decreased with Thr concentration. Liver weight was significantly reduced by Thr supplementation; abdominal fat was not affected. 5. Estimated Thr requirements for FCE increased as dietary CP increased according to an exponential model. This model indicated higher Thr requirements than those of broken-line models for growth performance.  相似文献

1. Nitrogen‐corrected apparent metabolisable energy (AMEn) values of 2 diets with different energy: protein ratio were estimated in an experiment with 8 groups of female and 8 of male chickens in 15 sequential 3‐day balance periods from the 12th to the 56th d of age.

2. The effect of sex on AMEn values was not significant.

3. The effect of age was highly significant. AMEn values of the mixture with the narrower energy: protein ratio increased with age. The dependence of AMEn of the diet with the wider energy: protein ratio on age was parabolic, AMEn values increasing only until the 37th day of life.

4. Under conditions of ad libitum feeding, AMEn of the mixture with the wider energy: protein ratio given to female chickens decreased significantly with increasing food intake.  相似文献

1. Two environmentally controlled houses at 21°‐30°‐21°C (HT) and 21°C (LT) were used to study the effect of temperature on fatty acid composition of the abdominal fat of male and female broilers fed 13.8 and 13 MJ ME/kg diets and slaughtered at 34 and 54 d.

2. Extracts from the abdominal fat of 160 carcases and of the experimental foods were analysed for fatty acids by gas liquid chromatography.

3. Birds reared in HT had a significantly lower proportion of polyun‐saturated fatty acids (PUFA) in their abdominal fat between 34 and 54 d than birds in LT. The depot fat contents of oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids were all reduced by HT at 54 d.

4. For broilers slaughtered at 54 d, saturated fatty acid (SFA) content was much higher in females at high temperatures than in males while at low temperatures PUFA, especially linoleic, was much lower in males than in females.

5. Early finishing of broilers is advantageous from the viewpoint of fatty acid composition because the PUFA/SFA ratio declines significantly with age regardless of temperature.  相似文献

The improvement in heat tolerance acquired during the acclimatization of laying hens to intermittent heat stress was lost or considerably reduced when energy intake increased following the addition of maize oil to the diet. The oxygen consumption (VO2) of acclimatised hens increased after the addition of maize oil to the diet. Reducing the environmental temperature (Ta) from 30 degrees to 10 degrees C prevented the development of acclimatization if the heat stress commenced soon after the change of Ta; if the heat stress commenced 5 weeks after the change of Ta acclimatization took place normally. Reducing the Ta from 30 degrees to 10 degrees C resulted in an increased VO2 and food intake. The administration of triiodothyronine increased VO2 and reduced the heat tolerance of acclimatised hens. It is concluded that heat tolerance, despite being reinforced by regular exposure to heat stress, remains susceptible to changes in energy metabolism brought about by dietary or environmental means.  相似文献

1. The ‘extra caloric’ effect of added soyabean oil, as reflected in improved body weight gain, food utilisation, metabolisable energy or net energy deposition in the body was determined.

2. Two diets were formulated to contain 12.1 MJ/kg, one with no added fat and the second with 30 g/kg soyabean oil. Addition of oil improved body weight gain by 6.9% (P< 0.05). Two other diets were formulated to contain 13.0 MJ/kg, one with 30 and one with 60 g/kg added soyabean oil bringing the total fat in the high energy, high fat diet to 84 g/kg. Addition of oil in this case improved weight gain by only 3.4% (ns). Addition of soyabean oil increased the apparent digestibility of total dietary fat and reduced that of starch.

3. The effect of soyabean oil supplementation on mash diets at both energy concentrations or to the pelleted diet (formulated to contain 12.1MJ) on AMEn was consistently positive although not significant. Addition of soyabean oil improved net energy deposition in the body by 17% within the 12.1 MJ/kg diets, (30 g/kg soyabean oil addition) (P< 0.05), but was reduced by 2% (ns) within the 13.0 MJ/kg diets (60 g/kg soyabean oil addition).

4. Supplementing a pelleted diet formulated to contain 12.1 MJ/kg, with 30 g/kg soyabean oil, improved food utilisation (P< 0.05). The ‘extra caloric’ effect of added soyabean oil, defined as the beneficial effect of the oil above that predicted from its energy value, varied according to the parameter chosen to express this effect and was influenced by the concentration of added soyabean oil and the dietary energy.  相似文献

1. Alterations in dietary metabolisable energy (ME) concentration had a limited influence on food and nutrient intakes and egg mass output of hens in early lay kept at the prevailing air (10 degrees to 24 degrees C), cold (6 degrees to 16 degrees C) or hot (25 degrees to 35 degrees C) temperatures. 2. Energy intakes were not improved by increasing the dietary concentrations of nutrients other than energy. 3. At prevailing air and cold temperatures all dietary ME-nutrient density combinations allowed hens to meet the recommended daily protein intake but only hens fed the most concentrated diets were able to meet this recommendation at hot temperatures. 4. Even the highest intakes of ME and protein achieved at hot temperatures failed to increase egg mass output to the values attained on any diet at cold temperatures.  相似文献

1. Four factorial experiments were carried out to determine whether there is any interrelationship between dietary energy-to-protein (E:P) ratio (experiments 1, 2 and 3) or pelleting the diet (experiment 4) and the duration of food withdrawal (FW), in their effect on carcase quality of broiler male chickens. The quality was evaluated by yields of carcase and breast meat, abdominal fat pad size, and the content and composition of the fat in the meat. The effect of sex on the response to FW was also determined in experiment 3 and that of age in experiment 4. 2. The diet with an E:P ratio higher than recommended decreased the weights of carcase and breast meat significantly (P 0.05) in 2 of the 3 experiments, and consistently increased the size of the abdominal fat pad and the fat content in thigh, but not in breast meat. Abdominal fat pad and the fat in meat of birds fed on this diet contained a significantly higher amount of oleic acid and a lower amount of linoleic acid, than the fat of birds fed on the diets with the recommended and the low E:P ratios. The pellets increased significantly the weights of carcase and breast meat and the relative size of abdominal fat pad. 3. FW for 24 h decreased significantly the weight at slaughter in all 4 experiments, carcase weight in 3 experiments, and breast weight in 1 experiment. However, it did not affect the relative size of the abdominal fat pad, the fat content in thigh and breast meat, and the composition of fatty acids in these tissues and in abdominal fat. None of the variables mentioned was affected significantly by the interaction between the dietary factors evaluated, sex or age of the birds on the one hand, and FW on the other hand. 4. It is concluded that the effect of 24 h of FW on weight at slaughter, carcase and breast meat weights and on fattening, is not affected by dietary E:P ratio, pelleting the diet, or sex and age of the broilers.  相似文献

1. Corticosterone (680 μg/kg body weight per day) given as six daily injections to 3‐ or 7‐week‐old chicks decreased weight gain, but increased food consumption, abdominal fat pad weight, skin dry matter, relative liver size and liver fat concentration.

2. Time of day of injection did not modify the response to corticosterone of 3‐week‐old chicks kept under natural daylight nor of 7‐week‐old broilers receiving additional illumination.

3. Pure White Rock chicks and Cornish x White Rock crossbred chicks responded similarly to corticosterone injections at 3 weeks of age.

4. Seven‐week‐old female birds treated with corticosterone had significantly larger abdominal fat pads than similarly treated males.

5. Corticosterone injection was more effective in increasing the proportion of liver fat in 7‐week‐old birds than in 3‐week‐old ?hicks.

6. The increased amount of abdominal and liver fat due to corticosterone injections administered at 3 weeks of age disappeared after 3 weeks, but growth depression was still evident.  相似文献

1. Comparisons of the effects of age (up to 364 d) and sex on the rate of growth, eviscerated yield, blood loss and yield of skin, breast, thigh and drumstick muscles, heart, liver and gizzard have been made on a commercial British broiler strain.

2. Male broilers grew linearly up to 76 d whereas the females grew more slowly after 35 d. At 364 d the difference in live body weight was small.

3. Up to 56 d, males had a slightly higher eviscerated yield. There was no significant difference between the sexes beyond this age.

4. The proportional yield of breast muscle was variable with age, whereas that of thigh and drumstick increased with age in the male, particularly at 175 and 364 d.

5. After 35 d the proportion of skin was larger in females, whereas the gizzard as a proportion of live body weight in both sexes decreased rapidly between 21 and 76 d. Blood loss during killing was always higher in male broilers after 21 d.  相似文献

An experiment involving 72 individually housed piglets was conducted to determine the interactive effects of environmental temperature and dietary energy level on the performance of early-weaned piglets maintained for six weeks in environmental temperature of 28, 22 or 16°C. Two diets were formulated to supply 3.1 (low energy diet) and 3.6 (high energy diet) Mcal digestible energy per kg of feed. The high-energy diet had greater (P < 0.01) energy and nitrogen digestibility than the low-energy diet. Digestibilities were similar in piglets exposed to 22 and 28°C and higher (P < 0.05) than in those housed at 16°C. Exposure to a low temperature (16°C) increased feed intake by 8% (P < 0.05) and feed to gain ratio by 11% (P < 0.01), whereas exposure to a warm environment (28°C) decreased feed intake by 25% (P < 0.01) and growth rate by 28% (P < 0.01) compared with piglets housed at thermal neutrality (22°C). The effect of dietary energy level on the rate of weight gain, DE intake and DE to gain ratio was dependent upon environmental temperature in which piglets were maintained. Compared with the high-energy diet, the low-energy diet depressed DE intake by 9.2% (P < 0.05) and rate of weight gain by 14.1% (P < 0.01) and increased DE to gain ratio by 5.5% (P < 0.05) in piglets housed in the warm environment. Under cold conditions both low and high energy diets resulted in similar DE intake, rate of weight gain and DE to gain ratio.  相似文献

1. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of sex and genotype on carcase composition and nutritional and sensory characteristics of chicken meat. The “Géline de Touraine” (GT) characterised by high carcase fatness was compared with an experimental crossbreed (EC) and “Label rouge” (LR) genotype.

2. Females compared with males, and GT chickens compared with LR and EC chickens were characterised by increased carcase fatness and an increased lipid level in thigh meat.

3. In both breast and thigh meat, the percentage of monounsaturated fatty acids was increased and the percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids was decreased. However, these effects did not affect sensory characteristics of meat particularly those of roasted breast fillets containing very low lipid level by comparison with thigh meat.

4. Finally, in our study, high carcase fatness was related to high intermuscular fatness affecting the nutritional characteristics of meat but not its sensory attributes.  相似文献

1. The effects of age and sex have been studied on the proximate composition and inorganic constituents in breast, thigh, drumstick and skin from a commercial British broiler strain (Ross 1).

2. Protein content generally increased with age in all muscles and decreased in skin. Protein content in skin of males was always higher than that in females.

3. Moisture content in all muscles decreased with age. In the skin, moisture decreased with age considerably more in females than in males.

4. Fat content increased with age in all tissues, while ash content of breast, thigh and skin decreased with age.

5. Phosphorus, chloride, magnesium and potassium all decreased with age in all the tissues. Thigh and skin calcium content were affected by age, as was the sodium content of drumstick and skin.

6. The sex effect on the inorganic constituents was variable.  相似文献
