A 10‐week feeding experiment was conducted to determine the optimum dietary protein requirement of juvenile obscure puffer (Takifugu obscurus). Six isoenergetic (20 MJ kg?1 gross energy) diets were formulated to contain graded levels of 34%, 38%, 42%, 46%, 50% or 54% crude protein (as dry matter basis). The results showed final body weight, weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) increased significantly with increasing protein levels up to 42% and then decreased thereafer. Second‐order polynomial regression analysis (y = ?0.0024x2 + 0.1788x ? 1.3196, R2 = 0.9032) indicated a maximum SGR at protein level of 37%. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) decreased with increasing levels of dietary protein up to 42% and increased thereafter. Second‐order polynomial regression analysis (y = 0.0054x2 ? 0.4351x + 10.391, R2 = 0.753) indicated a minimum FCR at protein level of 40%. Protein efficiency ratio (PER) of fish fed the 34%, 38% and 42% diets was significantly higher than that of fish fed the 46%, 50% and 54% diets, and broken‐line analysis indicated PER tended to decrease when dietary protein level was higher than 40%. Generally, whole body lipid content, total cholesterol, low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol and triacylglycerol decreased with increasing levels of dietary protein. Fish fed the 42% protein diet showed the highest essential amino acids (histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine and threonine) and non‐essential amino acids (aspartic acid and glutamic acid) in muscle. Based on the second‐degree polynomial regression analysis of SGR and FCR and broken‐line analysis of PER, the optimal dietary protein level of obscure puffer is estimated to be between 37% and 40% (% as dry matter basis). 相似文献

Although jellyfish blooms are serious nuisances for fisheries and other industries, the utilization and nutritional value of by‐catch jellyfish has drawn public attention. Here, we evaluated the efficacy of feeding tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes with moon jellyfish Aurelia sp. using 20‐day rearing experiments. Feeding on jellyfish had no positive effect on growth performance, although it significantly reduced neutral lipids and increased proportions of polar lipids, n?3 and n?6 highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs), especially arachidonic and docosahexaenoic acids, and taurine. Supplemental feeding on jellyfish plus pellets elevated activity and responsiveness in the fish, with no effect on burst swimming speed or prevention of aggressive biting by siblings. The present research suggests that feeding on jellyfish improves body composition and some behaviours in tiger puffers. As cultured fish tend to accumulate excessive amounts of lipids from lipid‐rich pellets that can induce an unhealthy condition, and behavioural deficits of hatchery‐reared fish reduce survival after release in the wild, we propose the use of jellyfish as a supplemental diet in the nursery production of tiger puffer. Moreover, feeding on jellyfish can overcome deficiencies in alternative soy‐material feeds by supplying phospholipid, HUFAs, or taurine. 相似文献

Cytogenetic analyses of the river puffer, Takifugu obscurus, the tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes and hybrids produced between female T. obscurus and male T. rubripes and their hybrid triploids (produced by cold shock treatment at 4°C) were performed. T. obscurus had 2n = 44 chromosomes and 1.84 ± 0.019 pg DNA/cell, T. rubripes had 2n = 44 and 2.64 ± 0.015, the hybrids had 2n = 44 and 2.15 ± 0.010 and the hybrid triploids had 3n = 66 and 3.22 ± 0.010. The erythrocyte values of the hybrids were more similar to those for T. obscurus, whereas the hepatocyte, midgut and proximal tubule kidney cell values of the hybrids fell down between those for the parental species (p < .05). The erythrocyte, proximal tubule, hepatocyte and midgut epithelial cell sizes for the hybrid triploids were 1.5‐fold larger than those for the hybrids (p < .05). The thickness of retina and each layer in the hybrid triploids were 1.1‐fold larger than those of the hybrids (p < .05) and did not differ significantly among T. obscurus, T. rubripes and the hybrids (p > .05); however, the hybrid triploids had fewer cell nucleus outer layers than the hybrids (p < .05). Gonad development in the hybrids and hybrid triploids was less matured than in T. obscurus and T. rubripes. The metaphase nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) and the gill cells of T. obscurus, T. rubripes and the hybrids contained two satellite telocentrics, whereas the hybrid triploids contained three satellite telocentrics. 相似文献

The lipid‐regulating effects of astaxanthin (ASTX) have been widely reported in terrestrial animals. However, little relevant information has been available in fish although ASTX has been used as exogenous pigment and antioxidant in fish feed. A 74‐day feeding study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary ASTX on lipid accumulation in the marine teleost tiger puffer. Four experimental diets differing only in ASTX supplementation, that is, 0 (control), 50 (ASTX50), 100 (ASTX100) and 500 (ASTX500) mg kg‐1, were randomly assigned to 12 tanks of juvenile tiger puffer. Compared to control, the liver lipid content in group ASTX50 was significantly higher, while those in groups ASTX100 and ASTX500 were lower. The muscle lipid contents in group ASTX500 were significantly higher compared to control. Group ASTX50 had the best growth performances, while diet ASTX500 seemed to have adverse effects. In the liver, compared to control, groups ASTX50 and ASTX100 showed significantly lower mRNA expressions of genes related to triglycerol synthesis and fatty acid synthesis, transport and uptake, but higher expressions of genes related to β‐oxidation and monoglycerol hydrolysis. In the muscle, compared to control, ASTX100 showed higher expressions of genes related to β‐oxidation. ASTX50 resulted in higher contents of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids but lower contents of n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish. In conclusion, astaxanthin in diets for tiger puffer differentially regulated the lipid accumulation in the liver and muscle, both in dose‐dependent manners. An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of different taurine levels on the growth performance of juvenile white shrimp fed with low‐fishmeal diets. Six level diets of dietary taurine were prepared by the supplementation of taurine (0, 0.4 g kg?1, 0.8 g kg?1, 1.2 g kg?1, 2.0 g kg?1 and 4.0 g kg?1) to a control diet (100 g kg?1 fish meal). Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups of 30 shrimps (0.48 ± 0.0 g), each three times daily. Shrimp fed the 0.4 g kg?1 and 0.8 g kg?1 taurine‐supplemented diets, showed significantly higher weight gain, protein efficiency ratio and protein retention efficiency than those of shrimp fed the other diets. The quadratic regression analysis (y = ?55.59x2 + 187.1x + 750.2 R² = 0.587) indicated that a maximum weight gain occurring at 1.68 g kg?1 of taurine level. The whole body and hepatopancreas taurine contents of the taurine‐supplemented diets were on the same level and higher than those of the control group. Total free amino acid content in the hepatopancreas was significantly affected by taurine supplementation. The results of the present study demonstrate that the white shrimps require taurine as an essential nutrient for growth performance. 相似文献

This experiment was conducted to illustrate the effect of dietary taurine levels on Persian sturgeon, Acipenser persicus (mean weight of ~35 g) fed plant‐based diet. A basal diet containing low level of fishmeal (19%) was formulated containing 0.05% endogenous taurine (control diet). To this diet were added five levels of exogenous taurine: 0.25 (0.25T), 0.5 (0.5T), 0.8 (0.8T), 1.2 (1.2T) and 1.6% (1.6T). These diets were fed to the experimental fish for 42 days. Results showed that growth performance decreased and food conversion ratio increased as dietary taurine increased, although no significant difference was observed between the control and 0.25T treatments. Increased dietary taurine led to increased carcass moisture and decreased carcass lipid percentages. Feed intake was significantly and negatively correlated with dietary taurine. Carcass taurine content significantly increased with dietary taurine elevation up to 1.2% and then decreased. Hepatic taurine content showed a significant increase in 0.25T treatment and then decreased along with dietary taurine elevation and reached the control values at 1.6% taurine level. Dietary taurine elevation led to more hepatic damages compared to the control. In conclusion, although within the range reported for other studied fish, the tested taurine levels in this study might be supra‐optimal causing adverse effects in Persian sturgeon and further study with lower taurine levels is encouraged. 相似文献

SUMMARY: Seasonal variation in the level of extractive nitrogenous components was investigated in the muscle of puffer Takifugu rubripes cultured in two different areas of Taiwan. There were no seasonal and regional variations in the proximate composition of the fish. Of the free amino acids (FAA) in the muscle of puffer, the predominant one was taurine, followed by glycine, lysine, and alanine. Among nucleotide-related compounds, inosine monophosphate (IMP) and guanosine monophosphate (GMP) were the most prominent compounds. The total nucleotide-related compounds in the muscle of puffer were higher in July and November than those in the other months. The level of total taste-active components including glycine, alanine, arginine, GMP, IMP, and adenosine 5'-monophosphate was much higher in the muscle of puffer collected from July to January. Therefore, the puffer is probably more palatable in these periods. 相似文献

A 2 × 3 factorial feeding trial was conducted to determine effects of dietary Ca/P ratio and dietary microbial phytase on growth, mineral digestibility and vertebral mineralization in tiger puffer. The treatments consisted of three levels of Ca/P ratios (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5) combined either with phytase (2000 FTU kg?1 diet) or without supplementation, respectively. The Ca/P ratios were achieved by supplementing calcium at 0, 6 and 12 g kg?1 combined with the same level of inorganic P at 5 g kg?1. After a 50‐day feeding trial, puffer fish fed the diet at low Ca/P ratio (0.5) together with phytase had significantly higher growth rate and feed intake (FI) than other groups. Both dietary Ca/P ratio and phytase supplement were independent effects on plasma minerals and alkaline phosphatase. Interactive effect between both dietary treatments was observed on P and Zn contents in vertebrae and whole body. P and Zn digestibilities tended to increase with increased Ca/P ratio from 0.5 to 1.0, especially when phytase was supplemented. In conclusion, fish fed a diet with highest Ca/P ratio (1.5) showed the poorest growth performance and nutrients utilization. Dietary Ca/P ratio of 0.5 (without Ca supplement) with 2000 FTU phytase per kg would be the optimum combination in the diet of tiger puffer. 相似文献

Pathological changes in cultured tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes , with emaciation disease in Kyushu, Japan were studied histologically. In most cases, diseased fish were heavily infected with at least one of three myxosporeans ( Myxidium fugu , Myxidium sp. and Leptotheca fugu ) and two unidentified hyperparasitic microsporeans, attached to, or in, the intestinal epithelium. Myxidium fugu attached to the surface of the epithelium, caused no noticeable effects on the host tissue, irrespective of its infection with the hyperparasite. Myxidium sp., which proliferated in the epithelium, induced severe pathological changes including accumulation of cell debris between the epithelium and lamina propria and resultant detachment of the epithelium. Leptotheca fugu, another histozoic myxosporean, induced degeneration of the epithelium, associated with massive infiltration of macrophages into the epithelium to encapsulate parasites. When L. fugu was infected with its hyperparasitic microsporean, shortened villi were also observed. This is probably because passage of macrophage-parasite aggregates through the basement membrane of the epithelium severely damaged the epithelial structure. It is evident histologically that, unlike epicellular M. fugu , histozoic Myxidium sp. and L. fugu with or without hyperparasitic microsporeans, were highly pathogenic to host fish. This strongly suggests that they are causative agents of the emaciation disease. 相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary taurine on growth performance and feed utilization of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) larvae. Four plant protein‐based, isonitrogenous (400 g kg?1 protein), isoenergetic (19 MJ kg?1) diets supplemented with four taurine concentrations (0.0, 5.0, 10.0 and 15.0 g kg?1; designated as T0, T0.5, T1 and T1.5, respectively) were prepared. The diets were fed to triplicate groups of fish larvae (0.024 g average body weight), to apparent satiation, three times per day for 60 days. Larval growth rates and feed utilization efficiency were significantly improved with increasing supplemental taurine up to 10 g kg?1 and decreased with further taurine supplementation. The quadratic regression analyses indicated that the maximum larval performance occurred at about 9.7 g kg?1 of total dietary taurine. Fish survival was significantly lower at 15 g kg?1 dietary taurine than at other taurine levels. Body protein significantly increased, while body moisture and ash decreased, with increasing dietary taurine up to 10 g kg?1 and decreased with further taurine supplementation to 15 g kg?1. Body lipid was not significantly affected by dietary taurine concentration. A number of body amino acids (tryptophan, arginine, histidine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, alanine, glycine, threonine and taurine) significantly increased with increasing supplemental taurine up to 10 g kg?1 and then decreased with further increase in dietary taurine levels. The rest of body amino acids were not significantly affected by dietary taurine. The present results suggest that about 9.7 g kg?1 dietary taurine is required for optimum performance of Nile tilapia larvae fed soybean meal‐based diets. 相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different taurine levels on the conjugated bile acid composition and growth of juvenile rockfish. Five taurine level diets were made by the supplementation of taurine (0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) to a basal diet. Fish meal washed with 70% ethanol to exclude taurine was used for the sole protein source. Feeding experiments were accomplished at 15°C using juvenile fish (initial BW: 13.5 g). Fish were fed the experimental diets for 4 months. At the end of experiments, fish were weighed and stored at ?80°C for analysis of free amino acids and conjugated bile acids contents. The growth performance and feed efficiency of Korean rockfish were improved by taurine supplementation in the experimental diets. The taurine contents of the whole body increased with the increase in the taurine supplementation. The primary conjugated bile acids in gall bladder were taurocholic acid (83.5–165.6 mg mL?1) and taurochenodeoxycholic acid (6.3–20.0 mg mL?1). Total bile acids increased with increases in dietary taurine. Taurocholic acid content was more than 95% of the total conjugated bile acids. This indicates that taurine is the sole amino acid to make conjugated bile acid in Korean rockfish. Dietary taurine levels improved the conjugated bile acid composition in juvenile Korean rockfish. 相似文献

A study was conducted to determine the effect of feeding with diets containing kefir on growth performance and fatty acid profile of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Four isonitrogenous (450 g protein kg?1) and isocaloric (4325 kcal kg?1) diets were prepared in trout feed to contain 0 (control), 20, 50 and 100 g kg?1 kefir. Fish, initial weight of 46 g, were randomly distributed into triplicate 520‐L fibreglass tanks in freshwater flow‐through system. Fish were fed at 4% of the body weight thrice a day for 12 weeks. The results indicated that survival rate ranged from 97.14 to 100% without significant difference among treatments (p > .05). Whole‐body moisture and lipid composition were significantly affected by diets containing different levels of kefir (p < .05), but no differences were determined in protein and ash. Furthermore, the fatty acid profile of flesh showed differences among the groups. The percentages of saturated fatty acid in the flesh lipid decreased, while 18:3n‐3 and polyunsaturated fatty acids were increased at higher substitution levels of kefir grain. The present study showed that up to 100 g kg?1 supplementation of kefir in diets could be improve the fatty acid profile, especially PUFA, in fish flesh without adverse effect on the growth, feed utilization and survival rate of rainbow trout. 相似文献

The present study investigated the qualitative amino acid (AA) requirements of larval African catfish Clarias gariepinus. Yolk-sac larval AA profiles were measured at different temperatures and also in animals reared at 28 °C fed Artemia nauplii or an experimental dry diet. The AA profile of C. gariepinus larvae changed during ontogeny, especially before the start of exogenous feeding. The AA profiles of the food items (yolk, Artemia and the dry diet) differed considerably from that of the larvae. No selective absorption of yolk AA was detected. Higher temperatures led to increased absorption and depletion rates of AA, and also to a higher retention efficiency of yolk nutrients. However, changes in temperature did not induce preferential absorption or depletion of individual AA, and caused only small variations in the AA profile. Depletion rates of individual AAs varied, possibly due to differences between larval and yolk AA profiles, and also to changes in the larval AA profile during ontogeny. There was little regulation of catabolism of individual AA in yolk-sac and starved larvae, and no sparing of essential AA. 相似文献

The present study aimed to determine the ideal ratios of digestible essential amino acids (EAAs) for pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) juveniles by the amino acid (AA) deletion method. A completely randomized design which consisted of 11 treatments and three replicates each was used. The treatments included a control diet (CD) containing 55% of nonpurified natural ingredients and 45% of purified synthetic amino acids and ingredients, and other ten isonitrogenous and isoenergetic EAA limiting diets (LDs), each being deficient in 44.4 ± 0.02% of the respective EAA. Pacu juveniles with initial average body weight of 6.22 ± 0.09 g were distributed among 33 fiber glass tanks. Fish were fed with semipurified and extruded diets for 113 days two times a day until apparent satiation. The ideal ratio of each dietary EAA was calculated on the basis of the relationship between body N retention and amount of EAA deleted from the respective EAA LD. Based on the AA deletion method, the ideal ratios of digestible EAAs for pacu juveniles, relative to lysine requirement of 100% were estimated as: methionine 14.6%, threonine 35.0%, tryptophan 6.6%, arginine 62.8%, histidine 13.6%, isoleucine 26.3%, leucine 43.7%, phenylalanine 27.2%, and valine 35.8%. 相似文献

The effects of water temperature on the development of the enteric myxosporeans, Enteromyxum fugu and Enteromyxum leei, were investigated in experimentally infected tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes. After naïve tiger puffer were fed gut tissue infected with both E. fugu and E. leei, they were divided into separate tanks and kept at different constant temperature regimes between 10 and 25 °C. Regardless of the water temperature tested, E. fugu was consistently detected with a high prevalence of infection (60–100%), although no sporulation occurred at 10 and 15 °C. Development of E. leei and the onset of disease were suppressed by low water temperatures (<15 °C). However, a temperature increase to 20 °C promoted the development of E. leei, followed by an increase of disease rate in the fish. The present study demonstrates that water temperatures below 15 °C have an inhibitory effect on the development of E. fugu and E. leei, resulting in suppression of enteromyxosis at low temperatures. 相似文献

A 10‐week feeding experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary DHA/EPA ratio on juvenile Japanese seabass reared in sea floating cages. Six practical diets were formulated differing only in DHA/EPA ratio: 0.55 (Diet D/E0.55), 1.04 (D/E1.04), 1.53 (D/E1.53), 2.08 (D/E2.08), 2.44 (D/E2.44) and 2.93 (D/E2.93). All diets had the same contents of total n‐3 long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC‐PUFA) and arachidonic acid (ARA). The results showed that the final weight and specific growth rate significantly increased with increasing dietary DHA/EPA ratio from 0.55 to 2.08 and thereafter declined. Activities of lysozyme and superoxide dismutase in serum in groups with DHA/EPA of 1.53–2.93 was significantly higher compared to group D/E0.55 while the activity of serum alternative complement pathway in group D/E2.93 was significantly lower compared with group D/E1.53. However, no difference was observed in activities of both respiratory burst of head kidney macrophage and serum catalase among dietary treatments. The per cent survival after air exposure in group D/E1.53, D/E2.08 and D/E2.93 was significantly higher compared with group D/E0.55. The fatty acid composition of whole body and tissues reflected closely those of diets, while fish accumulated more DHA than EPA in fish tissues, especially in muscle. These results suggested that at the same dietary contents of n‐3 LC‐PUFA (appr. 18% of TFA) and ARA (appr. 0.7% of TFA), moderate dietary DHA/EPA ratios of 1.53–2.08 significantly enhanced growth performances, certain innate immune responses, and the stress tolerance of Japanese seabass, in accordance with the preferential incorporation of DHA into fish tissues. 相似文献
