Abstract. Young rainbow trout were fed diets containing different combinations of ascorbyl-monophosphatc (vitamin C) and all-rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E) for 31 weeks. The fish fed a diet deficient in both vitamins exhibited a high mortality and were anaemic after 8–12 weeks. Histopathological examination revealed a severe muscular dystrophy and splenic haemosiderosis. Fish fed a diet deficient in vitamin C but high in vitamin E developed the typical signs of vitamin C deficiency after 16–20 weeks, including reduced growth rate, haemorrhages and gill alterations as well as severe deformations and fractures of the vertebral column. A diet deficient in vitamin E but high in vitamin C led to splenic haemosiderosis after 20 weeks. At the end of the experiment, this group showed significantly decreased haematocrit, haemoglobin content and red blood cell numbers and increased spontaneous erythrocytc haemolysis. In a second experiment, older fish of the same origin were fed diets containing high or low levels of ascorbyl-monophosphatc and all-rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, respectively, for 23 weeks. The results were qualitatively the same as in the first experiment, but the onset of mortality in fish fed the diet deficient in both vitamins occurred later (weeks 18–23) and deformations of the vertebral column were absent. Haematocrit, haemoglobin content and red blood cell numbers were significantly decreased in the group fed the diet deficient in both vitamins and crythrocyte haemolysis was increased in both groups receiving a vitamin E free diet, the diet deficient in both vitamins having a more pronounced effect. The results of these two experiments indicate that there is an interrelation between vitamins C and E in rainbow trout. Possible mechanisms are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract. The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of high and low doses of different vitamin C formulations on the course of ichthyophthiriosis ( Ichthyophthirius multifiliis infection) in rainbow trout. After a depletion period, trout fingerlings were fed diets deficient in vitamin C(AA 0), or containing different levels of silicone coated ascorbic acid (AA; 50/200 mg kg feed−1) or ascorbyl phosphate (AP; 50/2000 mg AA equivalent kg feed−1). Fish infected with I. multifiliis demonstrated a significant reduction in mortality when fed high levels of AA or AP. A correlation between the parasite burden and the vitamin C content in the diet was not found. Specific immunity—measured as immobilization litre of sera—was not influenced by the level or the formulation of vitamin C in the diet. The most probable mechanism of high level doses of vitamin C is an increase of the general health status expressed as an improved nonspecific resistance and ability to cope with different stressors. In rainbow trout infected with I. multifiliis , the beneficial effect of ascorbyl phosphate is equal to that of silicone coated ascorbic acid, and therefore, the more stable AP may be a valuable alternative for use in fish diets.  相似文献

In order to investigate sparing effects of vitamin C on vitamin E for juvenile hybrid tilapia, fish were fed diets with or without vitamin E each supplemented with either adequate or a high (3× adequate) level of two ascorbate sources, -ascorbic acid (AA) and its derivative, -ascorbyl-2-monophosphate-Mg (C2MP-Mg). Each diet was fed to three replicate groups of fish initially weighing a mean value of 0.54±0.01 g/fish in a closed-recirculated rearing system for 8 weeks. Weight gain and feed efficiency of fish fed the vitamin E-deficient diet supplemented with adequate levels of either AA or C2MP-Mg were significantly lower (P<0.05) than fish fed the other diets. Plasma and liver -tocopherol concentrations were lower in fish fed vitamin E-deficient diets regardless of the level or source of supplemented ascorbate. Gill -tocopherolxxxxxxxx concentration was highest in fish fed vitamin E-adequate diets, intermediate in fish fed vitamin E-deficient diets supplemented with a high level of AA or C2MP-Mg and lowest in fish fed a vitamin E-deficient diet supplemented with an adequate level of AA or C2MP-Mg. Fish fed a vitamin E-deficient diet supplemented with an adequate level of AA or C2MP-Mg had higher hepatic thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances than fish fed the other diets. These data suggest that the high supplementation level (3× adequate) of ascorbate could spare vitamin E in diets for hybrid tilapia and that both AA and C2MP-Mg exhibits the same sparing effect.  相似文献

The effects on rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), immune parameters by differently formulated fish feed types containing immunostimulants have been tested in a double-blind, duplicated and controlled study performed over 50 days. A total of 800 rainbow trout (10-12 g) were kept in eight duplicate fish tanks (each containing 100 fish) and fed at a daily feeding rate of 1.5% of the biomass. The feed types were (1) control feed (C) without additives, (2) feed containing beta-glucan, nucleotides, manno-oligosaccharides (MOS), vitamins C and E (GNMCE), (3) feed containing probiotic bacteria and plant extracts (PP) and (4) feed with nucleotides, manno-oligosaccharides, vitamins C and E (NMCE). Plasma lysozyme activity was increased in fish fed two feed types (GNMCE and NMCE) but slightly depressed in fish fed PP. A non-significant trend for a higher mucous cell density at days 30 and 50 was shown in all fish receiving feeds with additives compared to the control group. All fish became infected with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis when exposed, but fish fed GNMCE showed a significantly lower infection both at days 30 and 50. Expression of genes encoding C3 and MHCII was significantly up-regulated in fish fed GNMCE for 50 days, and the expression of genes coding Hepcidin was significantly down-regulated in fish fed NMCE for 50 days. Beta-glucan was the single component, when used in combination with other feed ingredients, which was found associated with increased parasite resistance, increased lysozyme and immune gene up-regulation.  相似文献

This study was conducted to examine the effects of dietary vitamin C and/or E and their interaction on growth and reproductive performance in yellow perch. Yellow perch juveniles were divided into four treatments with triplicate groups and fed with one of four semi-purified diets for 32 weeks. The experimental diets were formulated to contain no or high vitamin E levels (160 mg/kg) without or with vitamin C supplementation (250 mg/kg) designated as diets −C−E, −C+E, +C−E, or +C+E, respectively. The growth rates and survival of yellow perch fed with +C−E and +C+E diets were significantly higher than the fish fed with −C−E diet. Total- and dehydro-ascorbate concentrations in liver and testis increased in response to its dietary supplementation. The -tocopherol concentration in sperm was significantly affected by dietary supplementation of vitamin C. Gonadosomatic index of males was lower in the fish fed with −C−E diet compared to that of fish fed with other diets. Hatching rates of embryos obtained from testing sperm viability was significantly improved in fish fed with the diets sufficient in vitamin C (82±7%) compared to the fish fed with the −C−E diet (59±7). This study indicates that supplementation of dietary vitamin C and E increase growth rate, and semen quality can be improved by dietary vitamin C supplementation within one maturation cycle, and vitamin C may spare sperm vitamin E depending on vitamin E stores in tissues.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to determine the interactive effects of vitamin C (ascorbic acid, AsA) and E (α‐tocopherol, α‐Toc) supplementation with dietary oxidized fish oil (OFO) on the growth performance, whole‐body AsA, and α‐Toc concentrations and fatty acid composition of juvenile sea cucumber. In a 9‐wk feeding trial, juveniles (average weight: 0.6 ± 0.1 g) were cultured in twenty‐four 50‐L tanks (30 juveniles per tank) in triplicate, and fed with eight test diets containing two levels of OFO (8.9 and 156.9 meq/kg) with varying levels of vitamin C (500 and 1000 mg AsA equivalents/kg diet) and E (100 and 200 mg α‐Toc equivalents/kg diet) supplementation, respectively. Body weight gain of sea cucumber was significantly reduced by dietary OFO, while mortality and whole‐body thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substances value were increased significantly. Increasing dietary vitamin C and E levels significantly increased whole‐body α‐Toc and AsA concentrations, respectively. A high level of vitamin E combined with OFO led to consumption of AsA. Even with supplementation of a large dose of vitamin C and/or E in diets, growth performance could not be improved, probably due to the high levels of vitamins in the control diets.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effects of propolis and vitamin E supplementation in diets of juvenile rainbow trout subjected to two different flow rates (0.9 and 2.1 L min?1) on growth performance, and vitamin A, C and E concentrations in tissues as well as malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Juvenile rainbow trout were fed with diets containing 10 and 30 g propolis kg?1, 60 mg kg?1 vitamin E (Rovimix E‐50 adsorbate; min.%50 dl‐α‐tokopherly acetate) and without supplemented basal diet for 12 weeks. Weight gain (WG) in the C group was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than P10, P30 and E60 groups at both flow rate treatments. At 2.1 L min?1, specific growth rate (SGR) in the C group was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than other groups, but at 0.9 L min?1, SGR of fish did not differ among the diets groups (P > 0.05). Survival rate (SUR) was higher in propolis and vitamin E supplemented diet groups (P < 0.05) than control diet group at 0.9 L min?1. Fish fed on diet E60 had higher (P < 0.05) tissue vitamin E concentration than fishes fed on other diets groups. Vitamin C concentration in rainbow trout tissues was significantly affected by the 30 g propolis supplemented diet group (P < 0.05), followed by the 10 g propolis supplemented diet group (P < 0.05). MDA level of E60 group was found significantly decreased instead of different than other groups (P < 0.05). The results of Student's t‐test revealed that WG, SGR, SUR values, vitamin (A, C, E) concentrations and MDA levels of tissues were negatively affected by 0.9 L min?1flow rate treatment in juvenile rainbow trout.  相似文献

Juvenile channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus (average initial weight, 6.5 g/fish) were fed twice daily to apparent satiation with practical-type diets containing 0, 50, 150, or 250 mg supplemental vitamin C/kg from L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate for 10 wk under laboratory conditions. At the end of the feeding period, one half of the fish were stressed for 2 h by confinement and both stressed and nonstressed fish were exposed to a virulent strain of Edwardsiella ictaluri. Weight gain and feed conversion efficiency were lower for fish fed the basal diet than those fed diets containing supplemental vitamin C. No differences were observed in weight gain and feed conversion among fish fed diets containing supplemental vitamin C. There were no differences in feed consumption and survival (prior to experimental infection) among treatments. No vitamin C deficiency signs except reduced weight gain were observed in fish fed the basal diet. Serum cortisol concentrations were higher in stressed fish than in non-stressed fish. Dietary vitamin C level had no effect on serum cortisol concentration. As dietary vitamin C increased, ascorbate concentration in serum and liver increased. Confinement stress had no effect on serum and liver ascorbate concentrations. Cumulative mortality of channel catfish 21 d subsequent to experimental infection with E. ictaluri was higher for stressed fish than for nonstressed fish. Regardless of stress or nonstress, overall mortality for fish fed the basal diet was lower than the fish fed diets containing supplemental vitamin C. There were no differences in post-infection antibody levels among treatments or between stressed and nonstressed fish. Results from this study indicate that channel catfish require no more than 50 mg/kg dietary vitamin C for normal growth, stress response, and disease resistance.  相似文献

Groups of rainbow trout (mean initial weight 14 g) were given diets containing 10% of fatty acids derived from a white fish offal oil together with graded levels of vitamin E (2–10 mg/100 g) for 16 weeks. Fish increased in weight by eight-fold over the course of the experiment but there were no differences in weight gain between treatments, food conversion was similar in all treatments, no pathologies were observed and few mortalities occurred. In trout given the lowest dietary vitamin E intake, tissue levels of vitamin E were lowest in skeletal muscle, concentrations in most other soft tissues were about threefold that in muscle but higher levels were found in brain. Increased erythrocyte fragility occurred in those fish given diets low in vitamin E, and ascorbic acid-Fe3+-stimulated lipid peroxidation in liver microsomes decreased with increasing dietary vitamin E. Little or no malonaldehyde was formed in microsomes from trout fed diets containing 5 mg vitamin E/100 g or more. This was taken to be an adequate or safe concentration under the dietary conditions employed. Microsomes prepared from the muscle of trout given low levels (2 mg/100 g diet) of vitamin E were more susceptible to peroxidation in vitro than those obtained from gill, heart or liver. Microsomal susceptibility to peroxidation is determined by the ratio of vitamin E: peroxidizable unsaturated fatty acids in the microsomal membrane. Some of these ratios were measured and the results are discussed.  相似文献

Feeding plant‐based diet through smoltification of Atlantic salmon requires verification of the optimal level of 1C nutrients. Here, we fed Atlantic salmon plant‐based diets containing three different surplus amounts of the 1C nutrients; methionine, cobalamin (vitamin B12), pyridoxine (vitamin B6) and folic acid during 6 weeks in fresh water, through smoltification, followed by 3 months on‐growing period in salt water. The three diets were fed to fish dispersed in triplicate tanks throughout the experiment. Mean start body weight was 32 g. Dietary methionine levels in the diets were 6.7, 9.2 and 11.7 g/kg. Dietary B6 was 6.75, 8.45 and 11 mg/kg. Cobalamin was 0.16, 0.18 and 0.20 mg/kg. While dietary folic acid was 2.9, 4.8 and 6.3 mg/kg, diets are referred to as low, medium and high 1C diet. All other amino acids were similar between diets. The results showed no differences in growth or feed utilization in the fresh water period, but following the on‐growing salt water period, differences between diets occurred. The fish fed the medium 1C diet showed better growth, as compared to fish fed the low or high 1C diet (p = .009). The medium 1C fed fish showed a relative lower liver weight compared with fish fed low or high 1C diet (p = .025). Condition factor was better in fish fed the medium and high 1C diet as compared to those fed the low 1C diet (p = .0006). As expected, free methionine in liver, plasma and muscle increased by dietary methionine inclusion. Surplus vitamins only had minor effect on tissue concentrations. Based on these findings, we conclude that the micronutrient and methionine level presented in the medium 1C diet improved the growth, liver size and condition factor; however, more research is needed to evaluate the optimal requirement level for each of the 1C nutrients.  相似文献

A 90-day feeding experiment was conducted using flow through system to evaluate the requirement of vitamin E for rohu fry in relation to growth performance and to assess the relationship between the dietary vitamin E levels and carcass composition. Five semi-purified diets supplemented with 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 mg vitamin E/kg dry diet as --tocopheryl acetate were fed to rohu fry (av. wt.±S.E.=0.58±0.01 g) in triplicate groups. At the end of the experiment, growth and dietary performance were evaluated and vitamin E deposition in the tissue, erythrocyte fragility, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs) were analyzed. The average net weight gains were 6.82±0.09, 7.38±0.03, 8.20±0.03, 8.07±0.09 and 8.12±0.08 (g/90 days), respectively, for fish fed diets 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 mg vitamin E/kg. The fish fed diets containing less than 100 mg supplemental vitamin E/kg had significantly (P<0.05) reduced weight gain, feed efficiency and other nutritional indices compared to those fed diets supplemented with vitamin E at 100–200 mg/kg. With the increasing level of vitamin E, both TBARs and erythrocyte fragility values were reduced. Regression analysis of weight gain data using broken-line model indicated a minimum vitamin E requirement of 131.91 mg/kg dry diet. The erythrocyte fragility and TBARs were maximum in fish fed the vitamin E-deficient diet. From the present experiment, it may be concluded that the vitamin E requirement of Labeo rohita fry for optimum growth and other dietary performances is 131.91 mg/kg of dry diet.  相似文献

A 3 × 3 factorial experiment was conducted on Labeo rohita fingerlings to evaluate the effect of dietary oxidized oil and vitamin E. Nine experimental diets were made, based on three degrees of oil oxidation (fresh oil, low oil oxidation and high oil oxidation), and each level of oxidation was further supplemented with three levels of vitamin E (0, 100 and 1,000 mg/kg). Weight gain% and specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed fresh fish oil and low oil oxidation level were significantly higher than highly oxidized oil. Moreover, vitamin E supplemented fish also showed better growth performance. Oil oxidation caused a significant reduction in the concentrations of α‐tocopherol and increase in TBARS level and antioxidant enzyme activities in fish liver and muscles. However, increasing the dietary vitamin E abrogated these effects. Dietary vitamin E supplementation improved the fatty acid, more specifically polyunsaturated fatty acids profile of oxidized oil fed fish. In conclusion, dietary oxidized fish oil increased the oxidative stress condition of fish but supplementation of high dose of vitamin E prevented lipid oxidation, improved growth performance and fatty acid profile of L. rohita.  相似文献

A 10‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary vitamin E and astaxanthin on growth performance, skin colour and antioxidative capacity of large yellow croaker Larimichthys crocea. Six practical diets were formulated in a 2 × 3 factorial design to supplement with two levels of astaxanthin (25 and 50 mg/kg) and three levels of vitamin E (0, 120 and 800 mg/kg). The results showed that both the highest final body weight and specific growth rate were found in fish fed diets with 120 mg/kg vitamin E supplementation. No significant differences were found in survival rate, feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio among all the treatments (> .05). Skin lightness (L*) was not significantly affected by dietary treatments (> .05). Ventral skin redness (a*) of fish fed diet with 25 mg/kg astaxanthin and 0 mg/kg vitamin E supplementation was significantly lower than that of fish fed with other diets. Yellowness (b*) and carotenoid contents both in the dorsal and in the ventral skin were found to be significantly increased with increasing dietary astaxanthin or vitamin E (< .05), but no significant interactions were found (> .05). The vitamin E content in liver reflected the dietary vitamin E content. Level of vitamin E content in fish fed diets with 800 mg/kg vitamin E supplementation was significantly higher than that in fish fed with the other diets (< .05). Liver superoxide dismutase activity and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance levels were found to be decreased with increasing dietary astaxanthin and vitamin E levels, respectively. Levels of reduced glutathione in the liver were found to be increased with increasing dietary vitamin E contents. The total antioxidative capacity in the liver was found to be decreased with increasing dietary vitamin E or astaxanthin contents. In conclusion, adequate dietary vitamin E can improve the growth of large yellow croaker, and the supplementation of astaxanthin and vitamin E benefited the skin coloration and antioxidative capacity of large yellow croaker.  相似文献

A 12-week feeding trial was conducted to establish the minimum dietary vitamin E requirement of juvenile red drum by broken-line regression analysis. The semi-purified basal diet was supplemented with 10, 20, 30, 40, 60 or 80 IU vitamin E kg−1 as all-rac -α-tocopheryl acetate. Juvenile red drum were conditioned by feeding the basal diet for 8 weeks prior to the feeding trial to reduce whole-body vitamin E levels. Then, fish initially averaging 12.2 ± 0.4 g fish−1 (mean ± SD) were fed the experimental diets at a rate approaching apparent satiation for 12 weeks. Weight gain and feed efficiency responses of fish fed diets were significantly ( P  < 0.01) altered by the level of vitamin E supplementation but not strictly in a dose-dependent manner. Vitamin E concentrations in liver and plasma also were significantly ( P  < 0.001) influenced by dietary vitamin E level. Plasma ascorbic acid in fish fed the basal diet tended ( P  = 0.066) to be lower than in fish fed diets containing the various levels of vitamin E. In addition, fish fed the basal diet showed edema in the heart, while fish fed all other diets were normal. Fish fed 60 or 80 IU all-rac -α-tocopheryl acetate kg−1 diet had significantly higher respiratory burst of head kidney macrophages than fish fed all other diets, although dietary effects on hematocrit and neutrophil oxidative radical production were not significant. The minimum dietary vitamin E requirement of juvenile red drum was established based on broken-line regression of liver thiobarbituric acid reactive substances to be 31 mg all-rac -α-tocopheryl acetate kg−1 diet.  相似文献

Abstract. Dried earthworm meal derived from the species Eisenia foetida was nutritionally evaluated as a replacement for herring meal in production diets from rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri Richardson. Increasing levels of dried E. foetida meal, from 5 to 30% by weight, were included in the diet and the response of fish fed these diets was compared to fish fed a control diet without earthworm meal inclusion. There was no evidence of any adverse effect on the growth performance or feed utilization efficiency of fish fed diets containing these low levels of dried E. foetida meal. There was. however, a significant increase in the whole carcass lipid content of fish fed diets containing 5. 10 and 20% dried E. foetida meal. Concent rations of iron, zinc, lead, copper and cadmium within the whole fish carcass were not significantly elevated as a result of including these low levels of the dried E. foetida meal in diets for rainbow trout.  相似文献

The high cost of fish meal in tilapia diets warrants the potential use of cottonseed meal (CSM) as an alternative source of high quality protein. The effects of varying levels of CSM (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) as fish meal protein replacement on growth, blood parameters, spleen characteristics, free and bound gossypol in blood plasma, haemoglobin and haematocrit were determined in tilapia. Gossypol (C(30)H(30)O(8)) is a polyphenolic substance found in cottonseed that has known toxic effects in fish. Tilapias (n = 219, average weight = 11.3 +/- 3.9 g) were randomly distributed into 15, 32-L glass aquaria, representing five dietary treatments and three replicates per treatment. Each aquarium containing 13-16 fish was supplied with thermoregulated, recirculating water (27 +/- 1 degrees C) at 1 L min(-1) flow rate and photoperiod was constant (12 h L/12 h D). Fish fed 25-50% CSM protein replacement showed similar body weights and total lengths as the controls at the completion of the 16-week trial. Fish fed 75 and 100% CSM protein replacement showed a significant decline in body weight and total length. Fish fed 25-100% CSM protein replacement had significantly lower haematocrit and haemoglobin (ANOVA/LSD, P < 0.05) compared with levels in controls. The decline was most prominent in groups fed diets with 50-100% CSM protein replacement. Total and free gossypol concentrations of blood plasma significantly increased with increasing levels of CSM replacement (P < 0.05). No gossypol was found in blood plasma of fish from the control group. The occurrence of immature and abnormal erythrocytes was significantly greater among fish fed 75 and 100% CSM diets compared with fish fed 0-50% CSM diets. Spleen-somatic index (spleen weight/body weight x 100) did not differ between control fish and fish fed 50-100% CSM diets. Spleen abnormalities, such as large depositions of haemosiderin and melanin pigments and proliferation of melano-macrophage centres, lymphocytic depletion of the white pulp areas (hypocellularity), and presence of vacuoles and necrotic areas were observed among fish fed 50-100% CSM protein diets. In general, the pathological effects of gossypol in tilapia (low haemoglobin and haematocrit levels, abundance of immature red blood cells or polychromatocytes, abnormal spleen morphology) were similar to the effects of vitamin E and/or vitamin C deficiencies observed in other studies.  相似文献

A 50‐day feeding trial was conducted to determine the effects of dietary oxidized fish oil (OFO) and vitamin C (VC) on growth and oxidative stress in juvenile red sea bream. Test diets were formulated with 2 degrees of peroxide value (23 and 29 meq kg?1) combined with 3 levels of VC (0, 400 and 800 ppm). No significant difference was found on growth performance between fish fed OFO with 400 or 800 mg VC and the control group that fed a diet with fresh fish oil after 50 days. However, fish fed OFO without VC supplement indicated significantly poor growth than the control group. Liver and muscle thiobarbituric acid reactive substances were reduced by increased VC intake of fish. Fish fed diets containing low OFO with 400 and 800 mg VC, high OFO with 800 mg VC, and fresh fish oil are allocated in the zone of high resistance against oxidative stress together with low oxidative stress condition. On the other hand, no VC supplemented group was under the highest oxidative stress condition. In conclusion, dietary oxidized lipid increased the oxidative stress condition of fish, but more than 400 mg VC kg?1 of dietary supplement improved growth and health of juvenile red sea bream.  相似文献

The role of dietary linolenic acid (LN), vitamin E (E) and vitamin C (C) in regulating fish growth and immune response was tested on juvenile darkbarbel catfish Pelteobagrus vachelli. Five dietary combinations were used (?E?LN, +E?LN, ?E+LN, +E+LN and ?C+E+LN; ‘+’ with addition and ‘?’ without addition) in triplicate. Weight gain was highest in the ?E+LN feeding group. Red blood cell in fish fed the +E+LN diet was highest. The haematocrit and haemoglobin of fish fed the ?E+LN diet was lowest. Superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase activities in fish fed the ?E+LN diet were higher than those in fish fed other diets. Malondialdehyde in fish fed the ?C+E+LN diet was highest. Fish fed the +E+LN diet had higher levels of lysozyme activity, serum protein, complements C3 and C4, and immunoglobulin contents than fish fed other diets. Fish fed the +E+LN diet showed lower mortality and higher antibody titre than fish fed other diets after the fish were challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila for 14 day. This study suggests that the growth of darkbabel catfish is improved by increasing dietary linolenic acids. The diets with high linolenic acid, vitamin E and vitamin C can enhance the immune response and resistance in darkbarbel catfish challenged with A. hydrophila.  相似文献

Abstract. Rainbow trout were fed for 24 weeks on practical diets containing varying concentrations of oxidized fish oil, with or without supplementation of vitamin E and ethoxyquin. Serum biochemistry, haematology and histopathology were investigated to measure the relative protection offered by vitamin E (DL–α–toco–pherol acetate) and/or a synthetic substitute (ethoxyquin), against highly or extremely oxidized oil with peroxide values of 120 or 314mEq/kg oil respectively. Groups fed highly or extremely oxidized oils without DL–α–tocopherol acetate supplementation, and with or without supplemental ethoxyquin, exhibited lower red blood cell numbers, haemoglobin content, haematocrit, and increased haemolysis. In addition, fish from these groups had increased, abnormally developing polychromatocytes, splenic haemosiderosis and hepatic ceroidosis. The results indicate that vitamin E protects better and at lower concentrations than does ethoxyquin, and that supplementation with 33 mg of DL–α–tocopherol acetate/kg is adequate to prevent vitamin E deficiency signs when feeding practical diets containing 7.5 % of a highly oxidized oil. Supplementation with ethoxyquin alone to diets containing highly oxidized oil appeared to exert partial protection, but did not increase the level of protection when added simultaneously with DL–α–tocopherol acetate. The data support the theory of a general antioxidant function for vitamin E, and suggest that mortalities ensuing from vitamin E deficiency are due to the cumulative effects of liver dysfunction and anaemia.  相似文献
