A 3-year-old crossbreed male dog was presented with a history of blunt facial trauma. Skull radiographs showed right zygomatic arch fracture. An electrocardiogram revealed bradycardia, first-degree atrioventricular block and QT prolongation. Standard biochemical profile including electrolytes was normal. Atropine response test (0.04 mg/kg intravenously) restored normal sinus rhythm at a rate of 140 bpm with normal QT and PR intervals. This observation is consistent with oculocardiac reflex secondary to zygomatic arch fracture.  相似文献

A double aortic arch is described in an 8-week-old female Siamese cat. In this case a vascular ring anomaly consistent with a double aortic arch is described in a cat. Stridor and dysphagia were noted in the cat. Radiography showed an esophageal dilation, with constriction at the fifth intercostal space. At necropsy, the esophagus and trachea were constricted at the base of the heart. The cause of the constriction of both the esophagus and trachea was a vascular ring formed by well-developed right and left aortic arches. The ascending aorta divided into two asymmetrical arches. The right aortic arch was larger than the left. The origin of the major arteries from the aortic arches were anomalous.  相似文献

A grossly displaced segmental zygomatic arch fracture with marked ventro-lateral deviation of the left globe was diagnosed in a 3-month-old male German Shepherd dog following a bite injury. The fracture was approached via a modified lateral orbitotomy and a fragment of the lacrimal bone removed. The rostral portion of the fracture was stabilized with a 5-hole 2.0 dynamic compression plate bone plate. The surgical correction achieved sufficient skeletal fixation for proper anatomical reduction of the globe and excellent cosmetic and functional outcomes.  相似文献

A 9-week-old kitten was diagnosed with a congenital vascular ring anomaly by means of an esophageal contrast study. At 6 mo of age, a non-selective vascular study was used to diagnose a persistent right aortic arch (PRAA). Left-sided thoracoscopic surgery was performed, using a Liga-Sure vessel sealant device to seal and transect the ligamentum arteriosum.  相似文献

A 2-year-old Quarter Horse gelding was examined for torticollis, facial protuberances over the frontal and maxillary sinuses, and persistent nasal discharge unresponsive to antibiotics. Radiograph revealed an osseous mass in the right paranasal sinuses. Histologic examination of the biopsied mass led to a diagnosis of osteoma. The mass was removed surgically in sections from the right frontal and maxillary sinuses through separate bone flaps, and sinuses were irrigated with saline solution for 8 days after surgery. Two weeks after surgery, radiography revealed small osseous opacities in the right paranasal sinuses. These opacities remained unchanged in radiographs obtained up to 23 months after surgery.  相似文献

We describe a case of osteoma in the frontal and maxillary sinuses of a 3-year-old Arabian mare, presented due to an inspiratory dyspnoea. The mare underwent two surgical procedures in order to excise the tumour. Twelve months after admission the mare was healthy with no signs of respiratory abnormalities. Sinus radiographs and endoscopy repeated at that time revealed some regrowth of the tumour in the maxillary sinus, however, twenty-two months following surgery the mare did not show clinical signs of upper airway disease.  相似文献

An 8-year-old Labrador Retriever developed unilateral exophthalmos over a 1-year period. Contrast radiography, surgical exploration, and histologic examination revealed the cause to be an adenocarcinoma arising from the zygomatic salivary gland or duct.  相似文献

Congenital frontal osteoma has not been previously described in horses. This report records—for the first time—a congenital osteoma of the frontal bone in a 4-month-old Arabian filly. The filly had a frontal hard mass that was present at birth and then showed a slow and continuous growth. This mass appeared as a solitary, painless, oval dense tumor of compact bone, about 2 cm in diameter and 3 cm in length. The tumor was asymptomatic, and the skin over the mass was normal. Radiography revealed a well-defined oval, radio-dense mass projecting from the surface of the right frontal bone with no local invasion. The tumor had a broad-based attachment to frontal bone with normal frontal sinus. The mass caused disfigurement; therefore, it was removed at the owner’s request. The mass was diagnosed histopathologically as osteoma. The surgical excision of the osteoma was successful without any complications, and the filly adapted remarkably well after surgery. No recurrence was reported 20 months after the surgery. In conclusion, osteoma should be listed during the differential diagnosis of the congenital craniofacial masses in horses. Early diagnosis of the frontal osteoma guarantees a successful surgical treatment and consequently prevents the future complications.  相似文献

A 1-year-old Shar Pei presented for recent-onset exophthalmos and right peri-ocular facial swelling. Physical examination revealed the facial mass was of soft-tissue consistency and nonpainful to the dog. Due to inability to retropulse the globe during ophthalmologic examination, it was suspected the mass had impinged into the orbit, resulting in rostral displacement of the globe. Anatomic location suggested the lesion was probably associated with the zygomatic salivary gland. Fine-needle aspiration and subsequent cytological evaluation of fluid extracted from the facial mass was consistent with a diagnosis of zygomatic mucocele. Computed tomography imaging confirmed a single fluid-filled mass was resulting in both the facial distention and the exophthalmos. A modified, lateral orbitotomy surgical approach was selected for excision of the lesion to provide ventral exposure to the orbit, while minimizing trauma to the globe and supporting structures. Histopathology of the excised lesion confirmed a diagnosis of zygomatic mucocele. This case demonstrates utilization of a modified lateral orbitotomy for effective surgical management of a zygomatic mucocele in a dog, with preservation of vision and absence of any significant postoperative complications.  相似文献
